My twitter sound is bad enough without you mimicking it. Hopefully you would even heard the sound if I pointed out knock it off. You're the get off my lawn guy aren't you Eric.

I can't mean you could turn the channel and listen to a different radio station, but I just do what I do and actually I'm I'm loud whether there is extra audio extra sound anyway. Not one of those hose that drones on at night and allows you to sleep peacefully in a few people over the course of the last 10 years tell me that I'm too loud for the nighttime, because at night you're supposed to be home.

You're supposed to be even keel so that people can sleep as if that's my job to put you to sleep now.

Actually, I would say that my job is the opposite.

My job is to not allow you to sleep but I did get this actually fun tweet that I responded to earlier on Wednesday hi Amy, love your show.

This will probably sound crazy, but when I fall asleep listening to the show and start dreaming.

You somehow end up in the dream you didn't know that. We had lunch together a couple nights ago and now I don't know what you ordered. Ha ha I mean I does sound slightly crazy but I appreciate you listening Maisie and also my motto. Seriously, this is my motto fine people in life for your kind of crazy baby.

That way you not to worry about it because you surround yourself with people who speak your language. They smell what you're stepping in. So I like that and then speaking of sleep. Drew found me on Twitter and said I live in Atlanta and I have trouble sleeping when I'm up. I listen to sports radio. I want to thank you for keeping me company. Over the years. Have a wonderful day and that a hearing goes on and on about his favorite teams while I feel Drew's pain because I have sleep, trouble myself. I actually blame my mom. She's that were sleep issues, but I have some pretty slim, pretty steep sleep challenges myself. We are happy to keep you company, Drew, and here's something I won't be offended at the show put you to sleep but I'm not going to try to help you fall asleep that's just that's not something I would have in my repertoire. I can be boring and even keel, nor do I have an inside voice and none of those things are are in my arsenal if you will, so no loud, with lots of!

Lots of crazy laughs is just what I do know, it's who I am. The good news is you have options get off my lawn guy.

It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS portrayed one of my favorite yellows in the history of sports. We are live from the rocket mortgage Studios when you need an expert to help navigate the home loan process. Rockets can so on Twitter and YouTube would like to register your complaint are show. Twitter is after our CBS producer Jay will be happy to feel the suggestion box and also on her Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence, our YouTube channel as well. Named after the show and then we have a podcast that's updated every weekday morning of already had someone ask me about the on demand option. I even before the show started, I tweeted that former NFL general manager Randy Mueller will be joining us. In fact, he's going to join us from the West Coast. Well, Pacific time zone not to.

So the West Coast Pacific time zone coming up in not even 15 minutes here on CBS sports radio and so when I tweeted that before the show. Someone responded with do you have an on demand option. Yes, yes we do. So you can check it out every weekday morning Jay will have the podcast posted within minutes of us getting off the air after hours Amy Lawrence.com.

We are a full-service operation phone number 85521242278552124 CBS before we get back to sports. I have a confession to make. Before I make my confession.

Jay has a complaint to register about what's already on the shelves at the grocery store. What did you see the last couple of days that sent you into a mini orbit still bothering me. I can't believe it. I mean, I could see it like water body language is changed where's the obnoxious noise. The music behind Cal Cointreau and baseball teams like that about what you did, what was on the shelf already at the was at the grocery store with the CBS were was the CBS action right does all of us shopping at CVS one stop underwriter guidebook open okay as he waits until the last second.

Anyway, go ahead. What was on the shelves that annoyed you, so this was what two days ago so that means it was the 21st 20 seconds of the third and August will just log in August yet August I'm going down the aisle to go pick up to some regular toiletries. When RC stared me in the face down the entire aisle. It was a spider the whole weekend he is out the Halloween candy you're never going to hear Jeff Jay yell. This is like the only time Jay ever yells over having to my love. The more cameras out there for you. Find a better either to fall out of only 40 spiders and can Stein and pumpkins when it's August 1 2+ months until Halloween candy out there already agree with you and me doesn't matter though, because you by Katie regardless right, but I'll take the community Halloween themed just too soon to student ruins the entire thought of returning October and then all of the Halloween candies out like now it's you see is actually a time for Halloween in October.

You know that right.

I just want to try to get me in August so I can really get the bricks.

Did you by any is the question did not invite all he refuses to buy Halloween candy. There's no way I'm buying the whole weekend in August by M&Ms by the skittles are not buying the monster M&Ms or the vampire skittles over what kind of candy do you currently have in your possession and the devil in the out by the double pane glass and studio. Actually not much on me.

I just have a little bit of chocolate away. That's what I feel I have an entire bag of conduit parable whatever they're called. No ribbons or I knew it I knew it was something always something. Here's Jay complaining about Halloween candy. The man who eats more candy than anyone I know any adult I know there's a lot of kids. I know that he candy you eat more candy that and I don't I know. Just wait till your teeth fall out. It's all I'm saying. At some point this happens to everyone.

Jay, your metabolism slows down at a certain point and all of a sudden you can't eat all the candy that you want to cross that bridge when I was in Montana think where what age I was in my late 20s and I started to realize that I couldn't drink as much soda as I want anymore and I just I was nervous about doing as much soda as I was drinking but that was my source of caffeine. So instead I had to figure how to drink coffee start not drink coffee until I was 30, and then I realize I didn't like it hot I could only drink iced coffee. But even beyond that got to be about 33-ish or so.

It's coming any this is for someone who played five different sports and is always been extremely active never had to worry a day about what I would eat all of a sudden metabolism starts to slow down and it goes on a hell of a lot quicker than it comes off as all I'm saying. Just wait it happens to the best of us have been told without. I'm sure it's funny that the J refuses the any fruits and vegetables and he's got vegetarians of his family. I actually a vast Jay before about his family utopia. And what did they ever argue about.

And food is what he told me food that's what you guys argue about how you know how good you have it. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio are the reason I asked Jay about the candy Halloween style that annoyed the crap out of him enough that he had to text me about it while he was at the store is because I have a confession to make. This year I am that girl. It's not the Candido I can't help it. I saw it in the refrigeration section at the grocery store on Tuesday morning and I could not resist for a couple reasons. Number one I love orange anything that's orange immediately catches my attention is her favorite color.

I love pumpkin pumpkin.

If you insist I do love to touch the pumpkin in this case.

I loved to touch the bright orange pumpkin creamer IQ. I can't help it. I know I know August is bad. A too early but I couldn't resist. And actually, if you must know it's pumpkin munchkin from Duncan exactly Dunkin' Donuts creamer and its pumpkin munchkin.

That's what is called those babies are delivered – I can't wait till they come out. I did see that there already. It offering some type of pumpkin cold brew which I've not had. I generally make my coffee at home, but I now have in my refrigerator actually opened it tonight and put it in my coffee pumpkin munchkin creamer from Dunkin' Donuts so the pumpkin munchkin creamer I'm that girl this year and I do think are you Natalie know I was so delicious and I would try even though on principal should be having anything to do with Halloween or the fall in August to see pumpkin it is like a fall would necessarily say that that's Halloween so it's a little early, but after Labor Day. If you want to start pushing the pumpkins spice whatever let's find.

I like summer vacation yet. It's a four-year-old, but I mean you saw it and started to get nervous because of what happened with Twinkie creamer discontinued. I did not realize a lot about that but I did not realize it was limited edition and so I this is a true story.

Jay has had over the course of the spring searched all over in grocery stores and convenience stores near his house for over a month unavailable to find Twinkie creamer and this is the international delight version 2 it. I'm not joking. It tasted like Twinkies and so my brother introduced it to me. We are in Wisconsin for my grandmother's 100th birthday thought he was nuts and I had so my coffee and I was addicted and I know many of you went out and found Twinkie creamer. After we talked about here on the Eric is a bunch of you sent me photos and told me about it so I got Jackie hooked on it and I was at the store in little late June maybe and there were about to Twinkie creamer's as I bought him one because I'm a great host to my producers if I do say so myself. So I bought a Twinkie creamer but I thought you know what I still have a little bit left in my my fridge. I will buy one. This time around age, but wait till next week never sought again. Come to find out it's a limited addition creamer and I am still brokenhearted because I love Twinkie creamer all is probably better for my diet. So this is why I bought the pumpkin munchkin now this week in August because I don't know what if it sells out and I never seen on the shelves again probably didn't like anything flavored in two weeks ago. Actually there's there's this guy that I will.

He runs the tech for me on Sunday mornings I teach kiddos at my church. He has a countdown on his phone and this past Sunday he pops up in my face hundred and 25 days until Christmas that's aggressive you think aggressive if first you are just ill, like I'm not there yet.

However I am Halloween this year, not Halloween person. I do love pumpkins.

I do love orange. But clearly I don't need it to be Halloween to enjoy those things they fear.

I'm seeing jaws for the first time I've never seen jaws.

I know I'm seeing it on the big screen wall. The Newark not Newark start New Jersey Symphony Orchestra plays the John Williams score while the movies airing all be listening to the music. The soundtrack live. I cannot wait. I've I've never I've never seen the movie. I love anything to do with John Williams and soundtracks in movie scores and live symphony music. I'm all about it. So yeah, if anybody wants to go with me. Let me know there was a suggestion in our news writing was inter-bogus was with the morning show told me that I should put it out there as a show contest may be a charitable type of thing auction off the opportunity to go with me to see New Jersey Symphony Orchestra play jaws on Halloween weekend because I have two tickets and right now there's just one of me. I don't really need to seats, so I had to find a date or someone to go with me to the guys have to be at eight so I need to find someone to go with me but I'm all about it. Never do Halloween stuff.

In fact, I am the ogre that if I'm home shots all of the lights off and take a nap when Halloween kids are kids are walking in the neighborhood is on by Katie for me not giving you free candy. Just because you knock on my door if that makes me a terrible person I know. But I do love orange stuff and so there is still a love for Halloween.

All right, I had nothing to do with sports but I just want to fess up. It was burning a hole in my pocket I defense up but I've already purchased some pumpkin munchkin coffee creamer verdict is delicious. Would you like some I got started on Twinkie creamer not to get done pumpkin munchkin so good and while there's a shocker. If you try anything but sweet, including how were those oatmeal apricot bars. I made an incredible course, you don't even like fruit you put them somehow when you break something. I like coconut cookies.

I know those were your favorite think they are. I mean, I can't really criticize Jay for eating 20 suites on the one that feeds and have to have runny nose, exacerbating the problem here. All what a word.

Touché all right onto enter a lot radio also on our Facebook page, that Brady Mueller, longtime NFL GM and front office executive is going to join us from the Pacific time zone were to talk about these the last couple days before preseason is done is contact be made and some of his top storylines plus what they call the rock so you'll understand that after hours with Amy Lawrence CBSSports radio you are listening to the after-hours podcast after hours with Lori you that should get you all juiced up were literally just over two weeks away from the NFL season kicking off its after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBSSports radio. You can find me on twitter a lot radio our Facebook page to our YouTube channel. For now though, I got to step aside, Lord, for your listening pleasure. The insights of a longtime NFL GM in front office executive. In fact, he was the 2000 NFL executive of the year joining us from Idaho though will soon be in Seattle, Randy Mueller, good to have him back here on the shell.

All right, Randy, this is the last bit of training camp and preseason.

We got the final preseason schedule of games just ahead of us. When you think about that. The timing now whether it's front offices and coaches there, collaborating, trying to figure out how to trim the number of guys they got left out of their final rosters difficult is the process when you get down to this last week on these last preseason games. Going through three weeks. I think. Really, the construction rosters no help. And that's always been the case so you look at where your team to help you. The but I think you actually got more opportunity to really get it right. No joint practices that are really a doctor. GM think they'd rather have the practices been placed refuting Kate I think you gave her still delete because you gotta watch your guys play football. That means tackling it and be physical and all that but your veteran players really don't need it to ensure they can focus more of these in the joint practices now and not have to fear the world they can they can script thing they can somewhat strategically plan to be ready for everything and they seem to be kind of the new thing right everybody doing it back. I'll go for it if you're not doing okay and you're probably doing your team is how much do you show your hand in joint practices. Considering that you still have people who are observing who are not part of your own team over the birthday you have to offer. You have to bear your head if you're going to get the work in you gotta do what your you know ready to get prepared for the show. Think no doubt about it that I think the thing you can do it all without people hit the ground unit how to contact you again without the physicality of it so much.

But as you see your elderly current practice is more than a little skirmish people want to play football and leak out before the days over the value is that you are facing a defense or an offense either one that has no idea what your playbook is or has very little knowledge of your playbook so you're not facing a unit that already knows what's coming.

No doubt you will grip it out together to compare the Vatican and yet gives you a really large array really think that you can kind of plan out to a point, but the players don't get the surprise attacks you get all the gold without the physicality of injury. The big thing you reference these skirmishes. Teams that are really intense course are protecting their guys if they feel like the other team is taking too many liberties when it comes to their quarterback or other position players. What was your perspective when you saw fights breaking out in preseason training camp, or even something like this, where there is a joint practice. We never liked their coach, Michael, you are God you will part of the thing you got work on your own injury And the need skirmishes to fill you think I swing in the think about and yet you want to be all things you what emotions are part of the game we all know that controlling emotions are also part of the game. So it comes down to the coaches in the way they bit leadership on each team to make all the gave your players police their own felt more than anything else were always excited to spend a few minutes with Randy Mueller, a former NFL executive of the year general manager and part of a multiple front offices in the lead and now has the football GM podcast for the athletic its after hours here on CBSSports radio when you have to sit down to get someone who so desperately trying to make a team. We have to deliver that news that he's among the last cuts. How hard is that people out the door that realize their dream. You know you have to show compassion as well.

When you do that always tried to give the good and bad.

Age, you never know when you're good you might be called back a week later when cut their roster to 5316 Gipe each practice squad. So there's a mad dash for practice squad bodies were developmental guys so you may be door one day and depending on what happens bring it back to later skip the revolving door of year and even when the rosters are that they're really not that wealth becomes available relatively if it's a crazy time it is emotional and I think one of the hardest parts of the drop sure really delivering the news.

This is not going to be your day maybe another day.

I think you gotta be on. No, just given the fact I think there's no sugarcoating bad news. I don't think many people realize our most people realize that the average NFL career doesn't even last four years. For the most part, the turnover is drastic in the NFL made out throughout your rock. I think that any given year, you're probably looking at your water every year. No matter what rebuilding building retooling at least a 30 roster changes every year so you only thing that for sure.

Change coming change present opportunity to simpler predict produces the options for some players there's a lot of good things to come will change to always try to spin it in that way. The last time we spoke we were talking about when it comes to the rosters shaping and worrying about injuries that might get you in preseason and I think about what the Niners are facing right now where they got a young stud QB don't really want to have Jimmy grovel out there in the field if they do something horribly wrong, but they haven't been able to find a trade partner. If you are the Niners. What do you do do you keep him or do you cut them loose and let some other team get them for nothing will. I think they're taking by turning over the cues to a playoff car to an unproven young but terrible good player and I think your energy in your bed and just doing your locker room in your home really the organization you contribute your out if you can make the Work work through any Gymnastics they need to do to be of the key. I would from day one I would've found a way to be a problem please office starter is a professional in every way. I do think at this church, and the like she could walk out the door on the GM so if I'm drawn literature call for property contribute your I don't think you're going to get much for anything. Anyway, because know you can take on that $22 million dollar user and more as a free agent.

If you let it go and get a compensatory. The following year. I think you stand to gain more long-running that you say that though because Jimmy drop below compared to some of the other high drama situations around the league. This off-season we heard a peep from him.

She obviously wants to play. He obviously wants to start a he believes in himself. He continues to take care of his business and yet he does not make waves. To me that's so valuable role in the back of one of your backup Pro I think you will money making it look good in the eyes of all other teams that are looking for quarterback, but it may not happen until your I think it's right you you never want to burn any bridges and I don't think Jim is" that I think is the cause of all where real youth in the same meeting room every day with three ways that I think that's how you felt like there is a former NFL executive of the year. Our friend Randy Mueller always happy to have you with us that you hang on a quick break and updates but of course we have to dive into the DeShawn Watson situation. What this means for the NFL as well as for the Cleveland Browns to hang on its after hours with Amy Lawrence. You are listening to the after-hours podcast always always wanted this one, to continue to push for my life. My career for four steps to my innocence and to push for this after-hours's going to continue pushing innocence and moving forward, but only after thirds and 11 game suspension and pays a sizable hefty fine for this part of the settlement that the NFL PA in the NFL agreed to before the appeal could be heard its after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBSSports radio were spending a few more minutes with the longtime NFL front office executive and GM Randy Mueller was joining us from Idaho actually Randy when you think about the settlement. Are you surprised that the league decided to go ahead with that before any type of a ruling could come down on the appeal. No, not really. I thought it would drop another, I thought it would be heavier than it actually understanding that every everyone goes to an arbitrator. There's always some kind of negotiation involved. It is good if they could get.

I'm sure the $5 million fine, makes it a little easier to 1211 game suspension, but I still have the same feeling. It all started feeling bad, not good in any way. I understand and respect leaders in Cleveland. I understand what they're doing.

I could've never done that. There's a lot of ways to build your team. I could not build this way. I just think if they career to fighting for and are very GM or The fancy the coach. I think it's a career defining think will always be there will ever clear that up. You can say well think what will they might but still I just think there's so many things that driven negative in this whole case, I just wanted big black hollow my franchise so I know they're desperate. I don't really want to quarterback and I hear a bit mixed bag of messages that came from the Brown's window suspension came out you know that DeShawn was taking no accountability. Then he apologized anybody sticking by one side of ownership saying you the heckuva quarterback. The other owners like saying well I don't think take a long time all over the place so that tells me that it's not a solid ground that everybody is really still you know kind up in arms over.

I don't go away. I just couldn't franchise a different route and found a way to go but you say career defining for Andrew Barry.

What does it say about him as a GM will I get I would want to.

I could not do, and I get I'm trying to be on front as I can like I couldn't do what you can guarantee a $230 million contract to to to this person.

You have all these cases pending I could've done that and I know there's 31 other franchises that are still picked over the fact that he got a fully guaranteed deal. Now they have to answer that question and return negotiation comes up.

So a lot of bad boy to do that. I didn't like it I thought it should bad light on everybody involved and I wish it would go away right when it comes to the Cleveland Browns.

They've made this investment in the long term. What stake for Baker Mayfield. Now the former number one Peggy essentially gets traded for almost nothing. In fact, that the brown seemingly or paying the Panthers to take him.

He does get name the starter so what's at stake for him as he goes into this final year of his deal. I think it made really like to get including salary was like $3 million on a one-year deal breaker behavior. I think you will do everything he can team leader and that franchise I think it's a good one to make at this point I don't know what percent of been there two years and nobody could beat them out really three weeks four weeks of play and 20 million contract as well. So who knows how that will play out, but I think for Baker and for the marriage. I'm surprised there wasn't more market for Baker because as it turned out, the money really was a detriment to the ground and Baker took left to go win-win for the Randy Mueller with us here after hours on CBSSports radio.

We look around the rest of the league are so many questions.

Of course I know hope springs eternal everywhere coupling teams that you watch over the course of the off-season.

Randy that you're impressed with the moves they made you think that actually could make some noise once the season kicks off well apart and with it I think. I think people are doing that division.

A lot of people believe that following feeling hurt.

I think it won't hurt no question. But it's also on the exterior on his ability to craft a game they gotta be better and I think that the number one thing they've got a better offer than the matter of bringing them together now and then advancing that dropback passing game so that they can compete level. I like the Steelers I think you talk about all all I love the fact that they got while Jack. I love the fact that they upgraded the line. I love the young kids they got it receiver now and whether you know or or the rookie Jenny Pickett, one of the guys I think make them a little better than no pun intended.

Within the last year. I do think it I think it's a better team than people give him credit for. In a division where my opinion that he had all the start line up for last year they had every break.

They got a lot of good things going. We just talked about the chaos in Cleveland and how that's going to happen in Baltimore for a good team roster goes with them or whether contract flies so I think it like that, but they're kinda hanging around under the radar would surprise me if they want 1011 game answers. I already I am so excited to see what plays out the wild wild West. In both of the seed NFC West divisions. We know the NSC is Scott. We talked about the Niners but they also got the Super Bowl champions there.

I in addition, we saw last year. How competitive the Arizona started out hot in faded but now they paid their quarterback and then you think about the AFC West and the number of not just offense of guys like Russell Wells and Devante Adams. The number of defense of guys that have changed teams and landed in the AFC West. So those two divisions feel like they could be dogfights. I think you're right but I'm talking about the ram by me. I'm not drinking Arizona Kool-Aid. I respect what they do. The first half of the year to find a way to keep it going. In the second half of what that will help with having to make changes in an adjustment for whatever reason and I think I left the thing working in the you're right, acting in both the coaches and the people that are involved there. I think that it would be the fun division for me to watch.

I think the Raiders can beat anybody.

I think the charter to build beat anybody, and we all know the path more efficient.

Now I think that will have to be more of the profits are not just winging it deepen (blocking happening more and so I've been good and bad about the will get Russell but I'm wondering what yet so I have to question their truck to the city and the red in both those Western visions. What are the emotions that you remember as the season gets close, now were talking about just a couple weeks away from the real deal, I think you're always devotional that year you I know you are still nervous about health. I hope you never happy with my team now I never thought we had enough guys.

I never thought your deep enough.

I was always grind in that last for five roster spot to try to make sure what is Plan B cable plant. The whatever my makeup so I never was relaxed and felt great about it, that's for sure, but I will opening day, whether it step Thursday game, which this year. I think it's phenomenal with the bills and the rounds that we played that one time when I was in Miami.

We played against the Steelers defending Sue Beauchamp in Pittsburgh that gave special that Thursday night game is something to look forward to and I remember getting goosebumps during warm-ups of those first opening game so that feeling is a good feeling.

Did you ever sleep during the season.

I had no problem sleeping so hard work of art was not a problem even with all that stress okay good to know that Randy wasn't losing sleep.

This is why he won the NFL executive of the year award in 2003 new venture. Now you're working with the reboot of the excess fell how much excitement did this come to give you to be in the game a little bit different, but still putting together rosters a great project for me. You know when you do what I've got my whole life building from scratch you don't get off that I've always said that box in the back of my head that I want to check you think will help you. You might get the change liquids that 1/3 maybe 1/2 of a roster and you have to live with really take from the prior regime will be extremely cute girl from scratch, you can build exactly what your vision tells you with your coaches and yeah yeah electrical theme of the Seattle guys so it's a home game for me is our head coach June drilled to run the offense out about the people I'm with you knowing to be a fun venture rock is been awesome. As far as ownership goes, it is a great group of people having fun doing it were building our team throughout the fall will play in January. I think a lot of people will enjoy the fun product and show that Lapin wrote in the active filled the spring weekend before. Okay, come on – what's it like to be on soon call her in a meeting with the rock. Well, I have been in you off the green room with them so far been called, but he's very engaged all say that very much in love everything that goes on very passionate about most of the ideas and revision of football so it's been fun to hear and obviously is a marketing genius is a fun guy to try to go for a ride. What you call did you call them to Wayne due: surgeon: the rock. I think the throw out that's fantastic. I love these behind-the-scenes stories is why we one of the reasons why we love him so he's a former NFL executive of the year is a general manager with the saints and dolphins. It worked another front offices as well. Now part of the reboot of the excess fell in 2023. He's got the football GM pot on the athletic demand never takes a breath, really, but he sleeps great, which is good to know you can find them on twitter at Randy Mueller MUE LL ER_and my friend.

It is always good to catch up with you.

Happy football season to you and wrote love. It's absolutely love it. He calls the rock DJ DJ that's what he preferred Mr. rock that's Mr. rock to you. I don't miss the rock you could you imagine how cool is that Randy instantly great again all kinds of street cried my eyes.

Not that he didn't already have it, but that was really cool and I love that always always always gives me a fresh perspective that I've not heard anywhere else, so make sure you check out his pod on the athletic along with Mike Sando was a longtime reporter covering the NFL in the NFC West. Specifically brings us to the midway point of the show that crazy.

This week is flying by. Even though it is been a challenge. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence CBSSports radio
