My summer vacation on the horizon is weird to have a summer vacation at the very last bit of summer unofficially but with labor day next Monday. There were just over a week away from Labor Day.

Generally I labor on Labor Day that what it means. I always thought that's what it meant and I rarely I don't know how many Labor Day that Mr. my career but I would say only one or two that maybe that goes back to my days and I was more a freelancer, usually I don't take time off this close to football season, but I thought that I would try it just to reset as close to kickoff as possible to make sure I'm as fresh as possible for what's to come over the next September October November December January on into February 6 months now. It's not all mad blitz, but certainly September and October are even getting into November before things breathe a little bit around the holidays. But you know, October is the only month on the sports calendar where all four major team sports are operating at the same time so that October plus we cried a World Series champion in the NFL starts to get goofy, but let's not jump the gun. It's crazy after all these years in this business, especially working on the network level since 2004. How my calendar now is seen through the lens of what happens in the sports world.

I know I can change that if you become so ingrained in me. I'm not really sure that I could go back to what used to be if I trust that after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. I hope that you enjoyed one of the last summer weekends since we've only got one real summer weekend remaining my kids on Sunday morning and charges. My third consecutive Sunday I teaching my elementary school kiddos. Usually I go every other week but there are a few of them are already back in school and a bunch of them go back this week faces when they told me. School starts Tuesday. Additionally, in third grade for heaven sakes gathers that a bunch of kids that are just coming back from vacation to side understand that's what most people are doing milking every last bit of sunshine and R&R from the summer before we had to fall into pretty standard routine. People asked me now and then, of got friends, whether they be out of town or locally.

Hey, what's on your calendar you want to get together.

I actually with my long distance friends I plan phone calls because my schedule so awkward and annoying at times and until we plan phone calls but people keep saying to me. So what about the state to state my God well. Football is about to start so that she does everything but it's all right.

It's good for business and I do love football. When you all ask me my favorite sport to convert its definitely the NFL.

There's a different buzz a different anticipation, the height machine. Not only is it real, but it's realistic when it comes to football because let's be honest, most times in the NFL reality and I saved the best reality show on TV. Actually exceeds expectations. If that's even possible.

But think about last year's playoffs from divisional weekend through championship weekend on into the Super Bowl. Phenomenal. Let's go NFL live up to that standard. You set the bar really high last winter and has the NFL ever really gone away.

At what point this summer.

Did we not have anything in football and talk about furry elves. I don't know that that's been the case so it's another summer weekend. The books and it's drastically different, maybe a month ago and not just because the NFL though it is partly because of that visit the final preseason weekender is not a forthright of preseason games.

Mercifully, we do not need to see any more of these. We have all but one starting quarterback in the NFL has been named the player to be named later. We don't have his identity yet Pittsburgh Steelers they do not yet have a starting quarterback that the question that will be entered between now and when the season kicks off. We have other questions that don't have answers but not in terms of starting QB in case you were wondering if Tom Brady might actually be reconsidering his retirement or taking more time away, or there's something for reels personally going on in his life. Well, maybe there was but outside of vacation in the Bahamas with his wife and family. He is definitely still the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though, who blocks in front of him remains a bit of a mystery as we get closer to the season. We had a couple of scary moments for players over the weekend and will talk about the QB's we get to our extensive version of QB news, but also TJ Watt with a knee injury and left the game. It was good to hear Mike Tomlin say after the fact on Sunday that was this a regular-season game.

He would've been able to continue who that's good news. So for those of you who love preseason I hate to break it to you it's over those of you just want the season to get here. I think you're not alone on that island and now the games that don't matter where players can get hurt.

The enormous contract and Julio Rodriguez as a 21-year-old signed with the Seattle Mariners and it's got multiple layers and they work hard on setting up this contract.

I'm not even sure never heard of a five year player option, but that's what he's got. At the end of 12 years that are guaranteed it's an enormous contract but you know what I found out as I was reading it. The 26th contract that pays a baseball player and remember most contracts are fully guaranteed. Again, options may not be but for the most part, a major-league baseball contract are fully guaranteed with the 26th contract in baseball history, the majority of them of come over the last few years. 26 that pays an athlete more than $200 million guaranteed and so for the 12 year portion of the deal. It's fully locked in for him. It's $209.3 million, but he could actually be worth nearly $470 million over 17 years.

She was watching a news report about carjackings and robberies and how they are on the rise in many major US cities including New York which is where our CBS sports radio headquarters are located in this case Brian Robinson was shot multiple times Sunday evening, so if you hours ago during what may have been a robbery in Washington DC. Thankfully the team is identified the injuries as non-life-threatening and coach Ron Rivera as well as others from the team were with him at the hospital Ron Rivera put a tweet out.

I always have very, very lofty ambitions for the show, especially on Sunday nights. It's one of the reasons why I continue to work this schedule because I love working Sunday night and support. But it's also a challenge to because it's nearly impossible to get everything producer Jane.

I have quite a story to tell you about the weekends and as I mentioned in my summer vacation starts on Wednesday morning. So once I leave here on Wednesday morning, I'm officially on vacation till after Labor Day by between now and then we actually have a brand-new would be going to venture when we call it. I don't know a creative undertaking. I'm not exactly sure what order to label it yet but Jane I've all got a surprise actually got a surprise undertaking was pretty good here. You create an undertaking like that all right so book is to mischievous and magical.

I thought we have something fun that we are going to attempt to do. I can't promise it will be a complete and total flop is like I talked for a living or anything so I did.

I don't know really what to tell you about exhibits. What you won't hear on after hours so that doesn't whet your appetite. Anyway, that the McNeil were going to work on before I take off on vacation so that you will have an opportunity to check it out when you have the chance over Labor Day weekend.

I didn't enjoy the game.

We absent was some funny stories from the game itself between Mets Iraqis.

But if we hadn't shown up what we were there three hours before game time. At least Anthony Thiel was already half-full by the time we got there so we arrived early because the Mets were holding their first old-timers day in 28 years they had members of the 1969 World Series they had members of the 1986 World Series, they had an amazing collection of former Mets and in some cases those mats were represented by family members because the players themselves were either unable to make the trip, or no longer alive to make the trip to be honored.

It was awesome and the crowd really got into it. I'm pretty sure the crowd was more passionate and excited for the old-timers who played a baseball game not ballgame an actual baseball game on 30 field.

I've got a surprise. I thought they would just be doing a charity softball game of some sort. But no, they actually played baseball and the rounds of applause for Mike Piazza and Mookie Wilson and Pedro Martinez. He's the reason that I was all excited to get there is one all-time favorite baseball players will hear from a little bit later on he pitched an inning interview didn't see the photo. I put up on Twitter a lot radio the first time in forever, but I got to see Pedro Martinez strike at a battery recorded to strike out the best thing about Pedro is that you knew it was not anything real if you just saw Pedro on the mound. Obviously not throwing nearly as hard as he used to, but he was soon filling the entire time smiling and grinning the whole time. Having this be a blast and defeat some of the more recently retired mats honor and respect and even deferred to some of the older Mets who in many cases were using walkers or had to have assistance to get out there onto the field to be introduced. It was really touching this community first time in nearly 30 years. The Mets have held an old-timers game and old-timers ceremony and because of that he did not want to delay in taking one really neat step for a Hall of Famer who was watching and sent a message but couldn't be there instead. His son represented him. He is known for the majority of his career in the Bay Area with the San Francisco Giants, but he did spend two years with the Mets really raise 24 Will Take Pl. in the left corner here in excess really raise number 24 that is the voice of Howie Rose who emceed the entire ceremony and that was also doing play-by-play of the old-timers game from the field they had. He and his partner. He is one of those baseball players that I wish I had seen play with my own two eyes. So we sent a message, but his son represented him there and it was amazing to see not only some of the iconic mats who were part of the ceremony and they unveiled the 24 to know that is his son was there in front of all those old-timers as he was honored. It was only maybe I took a couple of supercool photos when you shared that as well as you know me, I love clouds over stadiums. A civil lawsuit filed against the bills rookie punter that alleges he was part of a gang rape of a then 17-year-old when he was in college at the time there wasn't much of a response from the bills, other than a statement to indicate that they were investigating what we now know a lot more information at the top of the hour.
