Monday morning Monday of August while let that sink in for a second. The last Monday of August that were into the final dog days of summer and Labor Day is on the horizon. Lot of people on vacation this week. Oh that includes me. Later this week so I decided to get out in front of the early Labor Day travel and are beginning my Ivan flowing since April, but I'm beginning my trek to Houston to visit mom on Wednesday afternoon. It's one-shot. I don't have to change planes. I just cannot believe everything will be fantastic. So having the mom since Christmas. When Patty and I drove to Houston from the New York City area and so for that reason and because football starting and because I just need a little refresher before we kick off our busy season, I decided that my Summer Vacation Would Take Pl. in Houston but Lee's mom has a pool and actually I noticed that the temperature is in Houston police over the next week or that the stretch of my vacation are not any hotter than what it's been in my neighborhood all summer and is supposed to be my neighborhood.

So maybe a greater chance of rain in mom's neighborhood. It's just been one of those long, hot, dry, crusty summers and in some cases, achy and sticky buggy buggy no hockey. Those are those are my terms for summer. But yes my vacations coming up. I'm really looking forward to it likely will take most of the 5+ days away from social media to recharge and refresh and remind myself how much I love football absence makes the heart grow fonder and after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Thanks for hanging out with us on what is now a Monday morning.

We promise photos more on twitter a law radio but if you miss the photo of my cat for I forgot about this. The photo of my cat that I posted on Friday. I know my mostly talk about my dog because I don't like my cat.

I love my dog idol. It's like having two children and and one of them is a just a a gem and the other ones a total pain the ass will that's the cat anyway. She is never not talking. She never is a loss for words.

She always has something to say and so when I told her was happy Friday.

This was her response. Anyway that's on my social media and then a photo from old timers day my favorite old timer of all time at Citi Field to participating in an old-timers game for the Mets could check that out as well on twitter a law radio and do as I say will put up some photos on Facebook before this hour is done.

I promise. We OU we are live from the rocket mortgage studios whether you're looking to purchase a new home or refinance yours. Rocket mortgage can help you get there. Problem solutions that fit your life rocket can match or dessert throws a gem through seven innings on Sunday but the Mets don't come up with any hits and back three total hits. Maybe there was a hangover from a hangover from a long day at the ballpark on Saturday, not an actual hangover because that would be really poor choice by the Mets in the middle of a series of laws for the Mets of Baxter's are on the mound, but I would say far worse performance for the Yankees in Oakland over the weekend where over the course of the last two games. The offense once again disappeared photo supply water rights owners brown rice is run through some genes the last 22+ hours not feel very good for us offensively so we gotta do a better job than we do.

We go turn the page on this one Aaron Boone with the understatement but this is how it happens for the New York Yankees. I know the Mets had three total hits in their one nothing lost to Colorado which is not anything to write home about the Yankees so well they decided to one up the Mets they produce just a single run on four hits Sunday in losing in Oakland now Colorado's bad tokens worse. I single run on four hits but that's actually an improvement from the offense on Saturday. Do you guys follow this game that went into extra innings between the A's and the Yankees. This is in the Bay Area on Saturday night one hits in 11 innings and they lose on a throwing error and a couple walks in the 11th to the A's one-hit in 11 innings. So over the course of their last 20 innings.

The Yankees have managed five hits and a single run away noted out they had a couple runs in the 11th they were not on hits, though, so will just look at the hit production five hits my stomach just ground that is my excuse what happens when my stomach is empty my brain sometimes comes up with things that are not accurate. So I apologize. My stomach apologizes anyway to losses all the disappears and while they miss opportunities they are in Oakland they do still have that leave the AL East were heading into the final month of the regular-season front of us far more concerning for the achy still is that they're not playing their best baseball and it's easy to see and they all know it had to, but also between you baseball you have a couple months later. One morning, told her no similar to when every judge did smoke, number 49.

I think that was for I Friday's game so the series with Oakland. They end up taking to but also losing to lose their closer.

Well, sometimes closer out out he's a reliever will call bullpen guy. Overall, this Chapman is on the IL because he's incurred a relatively serious infection from a new tattoo. I don't think this is going take way too much time for me and I'm just switching the next couple days for for everything to heal correctly so that I can start doing all kinds of graceful activities.

I think I body doable open-ended and writings against all this Chapman's comments through an interpreter, but the idea that he got an infection from his tattoo. I suppose not extremely foreign but do pop up in my mind.

Do we need to now add don't get tattoos in season to the list of things that these athletes can do when their contracts people rail against Fernando type teeth for riding a motorcycle in the DR and then he fell off and broke his wrist and I get it and and that's a risk that the Padres are chalked up to. He's young, but we also can't trust him.

He made a really poor decision is also a poor decision to get a tattoo in the season when you wanted help with infection and have to bullpen is been going to your debt. You know I don't go crazy stuff anyway so he should be back soon, but that's that's right on that list of nuttier crazier reasons why athletes have ever hit the ILB we got all kinds of like house household accidents at one time. Brian Griese was the quarterback for the Broncos he was holding this massive house party.

Lots of alcohol. Of course he did like his alcohol and he tripped over something back. Wayne's driveway backwards excusing backwards in his driveway out of the river was a dog he trip over something in his driveway.

Athletes will break toes by kicking things or don't punch things and the outbreak of meaning to target one of my favorite part about the guy who went on the disabled list of the time because he had texting some just keep texting so many mistakes that he was texting too much with his brother who was overseas something like that yet. So all these are human beings but always make the best decisions just like we do and we sometimes incur injuries from stupid crap protection going through.

Actually, I think I have arthritis in my thumb for a couple years I would crack so badly in the wintertime it doesn't anymore. Thankfully, because I've started taking some supplements but yeah it's a it's real and it's not spectacular. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS sports radio. The Seattle Mariners shut out the guardians shoot Indians earlier in the shower.

I just think Cleveland basically okay because the name guardians hasn't popped into my brain over the last couple hours.

I hope I just said Cleveland didn't offend anyone by saying Indians.

I apologize if I did so the guardians were shut out actually dropped three of four in Seattle, but I think it was appropriate on Sunday because it was the day to honor the row he becomes the 10th member of the Mariners Hall of Fame and he was seated right next to Ken Griffey Junior old-time heroes.

My idol even before I came to America. Bob's mind, he retired, he returned to Seattle. I finally got to be his teammates.

She's a jokester box for me is also true professional help me in more ways than I can express being his teammates is truly one of my Korea. How neat is that in Ken Griffey Junior is a Hall of Famer he got to play with his dad. He's an icon and iconic. Excuse me. Member of Seattle as well as I would say Cincinnati even though he didn't spend his best years there, but he and his dad there still ambassadors for baseball. We just saw them there at the All-Star fest out upside out All-Star festivities at the.

The field of dreams game in Iowa where they walked out of the cornfield and how to catch just seeming so much baseball.

I love it. Ken Griffey Junior could you imagine hearing from each hero, one of the greatest international players in baseball history, but also icon is a legend in Japan right now, if you guys remember when he first got the majors. I'm glad I didn't miss this. It was a phenomenon that you could feel worldwide. The amount of Japanese media that would follow him everywhere and follow the Mariners everywhere and everything he did, made such huge news in Japan and the games are broadcast in Japan. He was a worldwide superstar and obviously is worthy of the baseball Hall of Fame which by the way, will be eligible coming up the exact year but there were up there was actually present at the whole thing was there in Seattle for this ceremony to honor him in the Mariners Hall of Fame and I just thought that was really cool. The two of them from completely different worlds. And yet, because of their ties with the Mariners and because of the fact that they both mean so much to baseball and different regards, Dave. There, a lifelong friends but also connected forever a really cool moment and Julio Rodriguez. He I love you.

He stole the thunder but he was also the talk of the town in Seattle this weekend because he signs this unique long-term long long long term if he plays all 17 years of the contract.

It's 12 years guaranteed it's got five years as a player option that are built in multiple layers of the steel it's very creative and he says he's thrilled to stay there in Seattle. Even though it's far from home.

If you're a 21-year-old from the DR was all Gazans will be harbored because your home problems are and be able to play for numerous firms seal draws interesting thing about his history right because age 16. It was the Angels who appear to have the nose in front. I guess the Julio Rodriguez sweepstakes and instead it was cut his last ditch effort by the Mariners, so Rodriguez signed with them in July 2017.

Age 16. We've only seen them on the field for two thirds of the season.

He's in All-Star. Obviously, he was a big star at the home run Derby man these contracts. These types of contracts I'm leery of them 12 years already and could be 17 years and the Mariners have no say because if he picks up that player option 17 years 2039 were talking about now. How can you have any idea what happens over the next five years, much less 10 or 12 or 1717 years, but they are sure they want to hitch their wagon to his star seal draws I just I'm blown away by that we never said a contract like this money could be upwards of $470 million over the 17 years but it's not all that uncommon.

Other details in the layers of his ardent new, but he becomes the 26th majorly player to sign a contract worth more than $200 million. It's becoming the norm now is good you're gonna get it all right bit of a scare for the Houston Astros and their Cy Young candidate in that same AL West division Justin Vernon Lander apparently fell to tweak as he was running to first base in the top of the third. So he leaves the game against Baltimore. After 60 pages is allowed just three hits.

At that point but did not return to the field is going in for some managing tomorrow.

So Ruben reported good news is also recovered for space scale from so know the best of bad news, no glad it wouldn't do anything to do with this robe or arm or anything like that so will just have to wait obviously extremely concerned all is all year long and very fortunate to have him and I don't know any of the details Alex Bregman. He is so blissfully unaware, except that it would be a massive loss to not have just blender for any length of time they did BPO's last night I did not see actually was he not the picture of record.

It was Corliss when he left right okay so it it turns out the Berliner doesn't pick up when numbers 17. He only pitched three innings yes and so the Astros when but Vernon Lander is the big? Now moving forward because he is the rock he is the ace busy weekend envelope. Sorry, got a baseball hear them playing with.

In case you can't tell a busy weekend on the baseball diamond all around as we had the end of August. That's nutso coming up. It was also a tumultuous weekend an emotional weekend.

I would say challenging and tough weekend for the Buffalo Bills coaching staff and front office 48 hours after they hear about a civil lawsuit that accuses their rookie punter of participating in a gang rape of a 17-year-old high school student last fall. You will hear from Sean McDermitt as well as Brandon Bean, plus we had the opportunity to catch up with a bills insider to find out what the team new and wet it will bring back a portion of that conversation. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio you are listening to the after-hours podcast situation with a lightly hurt understand their hurt its emotional it's not easy to hear about some the things I've heard about the last several hours say and then slept a lot because this is this is again but there's other things are more important in this way were accusations you and just to clarify exactly what they were. And at that point it's been so surreal civil case it's not a this may happen.

It's it's something that you have to you have to respond to it.

At this point were not the judge and jury.

We don't have the we just again this is bigger than football are culture here is is more important to us when really so bad for that whole situation and you know ultimately this is a legal situation.

We don't know all the facts and that's what makes it hard, but at this time. We just think it's the best move for everyone to move on from map and let him take care of the situation and focus no on on on the so report was there. This is after-hours with Amy Lawrence obviously uncomfortable for both Sean McDermitt on Friday and Brandon being on Saturday. The head coach and general manager of the Buffalo Bills in the wake of the explosive allegations made by a young woman who was a high school senior last fall she was 17 years old and in a civil lawsuit.

She and her attorneys detail what she calls a gang rape at the hands of Araiza as well as two of his San Diego State teammates and that the details are there horrific and so right now there have been no criminal charges filed, though, to my understanding, this is still being considered by authorities. What did the Buffalo Bills know and when that is the question being alludes to that having some knowledge before but it was clarified with the lawsuit had a chance to catch up with Matt Perino of Syracuse.com a five year bills insider who was in Charlotte when Sean McDermitt made the choice to not allow Matt Araiza to punt in their Friday night preseason game so it's been a tumultuous weekend leading up to the release of Araiza from the bills roster. I started out by asking Matt what the stretch is been like around the team a real glimpse that we got at was in Carolina on Friday and I was barren in the conference room when Sean McDermitt. Walk in the locker room after the game to the room and just talk a little bit differently.

You'll distrust but think that he was going through Brandon being mentioned it yesterday when they announced the release that generally would not Sean McDermitt, coach the game and I did notice they knew the severity of the situation, but the problem with that is to same time, you appreciate the fact that they were doing their due diligence and trying to make sure that you know they heard every side note about this since the end of July when Jane Doe's attorney approached the team talk to their General Counsel and gave them what Brandon being called the boulders of the story in old and only would take that is new enough that should have been some real concern and then over the course of the next you know few weeks during training camp and preseason no matter Araiza remained on the team he played. He was in it and competition at partner with veteran Matt Hauck, Sean McDermitt went on a part of my take. After the first preseason game when Matt Araiza had that on and he was joking about it have been noticing how great of a kid. He was a bills friends were just expanded like you said there on the outside and you wonder how you say these things knowing what you're learning from him now. Matt Araiza gave them his side of the story and Brandon Beavan, trumpeter was a defect in change throughout the entire process trying to gather as many facts as they could Brenda be said that yesterday was were not detectives were GM and head football coach and we just couldn't get enough answers to make a decision what they thought was best to move forward and have always Araiza go away from football this whole situation out on the catalyst the bus and made a decision early. You mentioned the, the attorney for Jane Joe calling lead counsel for the team and that having boulders that point it had become public. Nobody had heard about it, really outside of of the few people who were involved with the lawsuit and then the couple people in the front office but they released him after it blows up what they have to say about the timing and question about the timing like Brenda be could say if they learned about this. First, he couldn't remember the timing of it, whether it was from Araiza or was from that call to counsel from Jane Doe's attorney so the timeline of it is still a little bit hazy, and it felt like that.

The fact that he came to the stadium on Friday night. He still hadn't wanted to make a decision on that, even as they were kind of learning some of the more graphic details from Dermot that you learn more things about this case. After they saw the 11 Page Ct. civil suit document so I can understand that to a degree, but it does feel like they were really willing to bubonic so everybody really spoke of it and that's the part I think doesn't sit well with people because you know whether it's just the graphic details of what was in that civil suit talk and of course that's which one side of the story but I'm not going to sit here and assume innocence for Matt Araiza.

I know you everybody knows somebody in their life. It's been affected by this kind of behavior. This kind of incident and turned your stomach and it's sickening and not any type of involvement in it and you see the direct quotes of Araiza in the filing and it just with all that being the case may be just you and having him be awake, he would've probably been a better approach, but the day when all that's set in the fact that this could've been done better. No doubt about it on the bills and I think at the very least they made the right decision in the end, which was moving on from just to clarify that there's no indication that the team knew anything about this when they drafted him in April.

They did not know Brandon being that if they had known it would've taken Matt Araiza often report the work you reached out to since they learned they got the court document on Thursday.

He's reached out to over 10 other NFL teams. No other executives but he knows to ask if they do all of the team to talk to set they didn't know either an NFL, but in no when it was happening so that it brings up the question after the bills you feel like to buy Matt Araiza if you say you claim that he didn't appear or his attorneys are claiming that you didn't learn about the fact that he was going to face charges in the civil suit until July early June. I can bet that data kind of a miss of that right now but note that part of this, but also doesn't sit well is like that that timeline and understanding no matter Araiza came out during the game when the bills one. Allow him to go on the field through his agent and said I'm looking forward to clearing this up. What could paint a picture containing all basically no benefit but are and then there has been a concern so obvious and awful situation all around and you get to the welfare of her journal for the regular season personally like to sleep bills pending been waiting for this season for 25 to 30 years Super Bowl era to have a team that was favored to win it.

Come up with a damper on all that people gone from him and are hoping Matt Perino of Syracuse.com who was with the team on Friday in Charlotte and was therefore the press conferences from both Sean McDermitt and Brandon being emotional disturbing troubles know 1 Right Way to handle this type of situation. There is more with Matt and ends. I would encourage you to get the podcast after hours Amy Lawrence.com he does believe ultimately that the bills to the right thing, though the timing is a little suspect. And I'm sure we'll hear more blessed.

He said that for the first time since pre-COBIT. The reporters will have access to the players in a locker room after practice today, so unfettered access for about 20 minutes where they can wander around and ask questions in the wake of the situation blowing up over the last few days you again. Check that out with Matt Syracuse.com after hours Amy Lawrence.com you are listening to the after-hours podcast mentor, Bridget and Tommy/Annette arrived say I like to raising or lowering the battery swings and center in a pretty clean so want to with this after-hours baby Lawrence John company on Cardinals radio. This was a Sunday night game that was delayed for an hour by rain and weather in St. Louis, but it was worth the wait for those fans who showed up at Busch Stadium. No more home runs last week for our pools but they take two of three from the Atlanta Braves. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence CBSSports radio so Tyler O'Neill with the game-winning homer as they have to rally past the Braves and world champions are still a really good position. Let's be honest, but this is an opportunity for them to maybe pick up some ground on the Mets who lost on Sunday to the most dangerous right-handed hitters in baseball probably credit O'Neill to get them all out series is going to go to clubs like playing good. We've been playing good no good games so Ajay mentor also gave up Tyler O'Neill's to outdrive along with the Tommy Edman home run so he was the one who was there on the hot seat on the mound as the Cardinals rally in the eighth and they been a lot of fun to watch. Even without our pools they been one of the hottest teams in the majors in August and right now are protecting a six game lead over the Brewers who won their last two games of the weekend. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBSSports radio so Braves, and of course the Matt sitting there chasing in the National League East at the bottom of that division are the nationals World Series champions in 2019 man the star pitching that we saw from them in that incredible September and October in October to remember for the nationals they faced elimination a dozen times in that postseason and they were still blasting standing featured not just even Strasburg, who was needy, World Series MVP, but also lectures are just phenomenal display by the starters and the bullpen.

It was awesome. Well they fallen on hard times. We know that did you know this though this is your Monday morning.

This blows me away. I had to read this multiple times and then also read it to producer J to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. The Washington nationals had gone a record 43 games without their starting pitcher earning the W what how is that even possible while trying to record we've never seen it before in major league baseball and now that crown that dubious distinction if you will belongs to the nationals. However, they ended the streak.

When Patrick Corbin picked up the win against the Reds on Sunday. He went six innings, allowed a single run five strikeouts and now his record is five and 17. Yikes.

I think you John Sterling.

Your team has its own issues. First time in 44 games that the nationals starting pitcher recorded a win.

Seriously changing that was possible that I don't work hard to get that record that seems unfathomable go that long without started dating when the record is a record not since Josiah Gray on July 6 had a national starter earned a W it's horrible nearly 2 months. That's really bad. The previous big-league record was 35 game so get this the previous not the same franchise but same city 35 game set by the 1949 Washington Senators who became the Texas Rangers and was in the 70s and became the Rangers I'm started member the exact that was before me. But I remember the exact date so please forgive me for that. Not since the 40s has a team's starting pictures been so devoid of W's, and possible outcome. In my mind right now this is crazy reference, but you'll laugh. I think some of you will laugh when James Winston pretends to eat is eat the W's classic Washington National starting pictures, word eating W's with spinning about. I mean, right where is my or and ERD AL ERT nerd alert. It would be that oh my gosh that's at the horrific stuff that's terrible is what it is beyond being nerd stuff. It's embarrassing, super, so let's move on with your day. Martin is about is this is fun actually.

For all of the win is a win for me to want to go out there and compete as we talk about everything that's About 12 so Nonchalant, like It's No Big Thing to Go. 43 Games about Your Starting Pitcher Getting a W like It Doesn't Matter What Happens Every Day Problems.

Washington Happens Every Month.

Who Cares. Oh Delicate Here.

My Head Is Kevin Durant Who Cares What I Feel like Maybe We Use Our Drops Too Much. If I Was Starting to Think of Them, but Not Sometimes Producer J Surprises Me and He Drops One in That Sound so Perfect and Seamless That I Never Heard It Coming, but in This Case I Am Actually Ahead Because This Is so Ridiculous Ludicrous 43 Games in between Wins for a Starting Pitcher. Sorry Nationals Fans but That's Brutal Exactly Who That Is. Who Is That Their Core Dear All, I Love Dear Car, It's after Hours with Amy Lawrence CBSSports Radio Camera Transition to Football Because Were Talking about Drops Here, We Found One the Entire World Found When It Went Viral over the Weekend.
