Middle shell of the workweek are your middle show of the work week. I will not be here the rest of the workweek producer Jay just said to me three hours to vacation which he's technically right because one we get to 3 AM Pacific time or 6 AM Eastern time officially on vacation.

However, I have not quite finished packing and I still have to scrub my kitchen floor and also vacuum downstairs.

My mom said to the wise.

You went to the last second and I reminded her that I had to pack that if I clean the floors too early, the floors get dirty again but the bathrooms are clean.

The spare room is made up.

I am trying out a brand-new house that are actually so this should be an experience she's really excited.

She's an older lady and so she and Penny can can walk slowly around the neighborhood, in the heat together but yeah I'm I'm glad that is going to be somebody there the household time.

I know that's better for the pets and she seems to be very excited about.

She keeps thanking me for allowing her to come and stay with me like I just wait until sugar gets older you a 5:45 AM and will see how much year thanking me that that cat all I Will be up today when I needed to wake up. I was dead to the world.

It was the cat that provided the alarm so I guess I should thank her checks. We think she's a dog we are live from the rocket mortgage Studios that when you need cash out of your home and a simple way to get it. Rockets can it's our home show, which means you get to ask Amy anything. So send your questions to our show Twitter after our CBS and then also on her Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence's keep in mind two things if your question is not used on the show. There's still a chance could be used for a video version of ask Amy anything as we will do another one of those in the fall begin videos, producer jackknife already recorded another one. I'll even think we should let people see it, though I'm a little nervous about people actually seeing what we did on Tuesday morning as I wheat we were both so tired that I'm thinking that maybe we thought it was a lot better and more entertaining than it was. I haven't watched it back to take on that task. The show today and nobles will see what we came up with the it was interesting piece of I don't think I want people to see if like that. I'm not sure. So were trying something new in your number two we don't know yet if maybe that was more of dry dry run and will see whether or not we scrap it and it hits the cutting room floor, so to speak, or we actually allow you to be part of that don't get Barry's link that you were working on some new stuff for the YouTube channel exclusive to the YouTube channel that does include video versions of ask Amy anything. So send your questions they may not get used on this edition of the shell, but they could end up getting used down the road so get on show Twitter after our CBS or on our Facebook page Cynthia Freeland of NFL network had an interesting day. Actually, it's been an interesting preseason for Cynthia and were thrilled as always that she's agreed to join us here on the show. Now she is in Los Angeles, but she spent a bunch of time with the Buffalo Bills over the course of the last several weeks and Cynthia were always pleased to have you and your bright mathematical mind.

Let's start with something wide-open. In general, what are a few things that you will take away from the preseason as it was agreed that no know you're really how many of the late 53 man roster are like comprised of people who could be another hot day. They could be on other people, 53 man roster and uncertainty built especially were so deep that the really good team. The guy didn't make it like that they could be starters another team very easily early starters.

But someone who contributes on other team. Though you know it, learn a lot from a lot of different like perhaps maybe some of the like, you know now that we're having normal or back and no work over they create preseason protocol. If there's a different sort of strategy when it comes to evaluating players and how you keep people and not in thought, different teams played our starters during different preseason game, so I would imagine that means there's a lot of different strategies that people are enacting order to kind of understand how to build a roster now pretty impressed with some of the people.

This week the week. Why who got rid of people who weren't getting the bill, despite their high draft take is that's very hard to do. Typically, people don't do it and you know it it a really interesting strong way to build your team when you look around the NFL. There are certainly teams like the bills that are deep and have talent so many different positions for 13 city standout everywhere you look you. They have really talented people, hard not to talk about the ramp. We talk about that because they spent a lot of time and date the bill through free agency and building that way is really like very light encrusted that they can fit it all in. Make sure that they have the right blend of pop and players and then they fill it out with the guys who aren't first-round pick where we haven't had from pick the wild out pretty. That's a pretty good team and then you really good quarterback this season have extremely change wide receiving cores obviously knows how to her home and Aaron Rodgers lost their number one wideout. It will be interesting to see but I think I think people are underestimating the fact that both of them have the ability to make the receivers better. Patrick thought Travis Kelsey so that extremely helpful in know what you look to see about Aaron Rodgers and what he can do really well he can actually change the speed of the ball on the same route like so expertly just to what is right for his receiver is actually pretty cool to see both of them. So yeah, I think maybe people address meant by the Packers defense is gnarly like that's a really good defense this Cynthia I has been to Lambeau Field for preseason game and it was amazing, but we can number two I'm headed back to Wisconsin to honor my Grammy Helen and while I'm there. I am going to attend the Bears Packers Sunday night game at Lambeau which should we just show all the not only getting off again, but you're also getting like the perfect time to be there all the leaves will be changing it to be beautiful and will honor your grandmother no beautifully yes in Wisconsin whether a lot you love football you all have to follow the Packers everybody knows that if humans were Cynthia Freeland of NFL network. Always excited to have her. We don't get serious about football when she's on the show. It's after hours here on CBS sports radio every single time we have you on the show. I checked out your twitter and there's some type of formula or new concepts and this one fascinates me because we see this a lot in baseball.

It's a category Cold War went above replacement and so I just thought your twitter that you have got this model these formulas that can pinpoint which ballplayers will make the greatest contributions to their team success.

How you did it but would you care to explain Cynthia. I framed everything in probability of earning a first outer touchdown without keeping the ball in your possession and then ultimately led that you how historically that not to win or not, women's rights, the losses right so when you look to see how each know team then provided the ball then position group, then individual player how it sort of break down so they are contributing to the bottom line the win or the law. You can actually pinpoint how each player relative to each other in their same condition is doing so we I do in terms of live when fear is that it ends up being a metric of game but it's not a perfect science because if you say like Rogers were thick with the Rev. and they like you Patrick for 6.1 with it. It's not like you I was again can be fractional don't have Ariel get back, there's always some different there's always some different between a look at you know that the value of Aaron versus the value of Patrick this year and look at the difference between the 61 and the six there who are a few non-quarterbacks that were near the top of of this list or near the top when you worked out all the science the first year.

So usually you get a pass catching running back will almost almost always have one of the highest wind here mostly because there on the field for so much volume so that directly help for the first time ever top five. I have a tight end Travis Kelsey. He broke into the top five in terms of windshear we did for fun and you look at his ready area production over the past years.

His but the winter also takes into account how the player impacts the game when they're not the subject of a target. When Travis Kelsey is on the field it makes it a better opportunity for the running backs to have faith or for the wide receivers to have more no more separation for things like that in Travis County, his impact, the readier the past five seasons is just unmatched.

It was actually pretty cool that he busted out five usually at the talking running back in a wide receiver.

And then, but this year he snuck it was a job. Wide receivers because we had so much wide receiver movement this off-season. Jefferson is way up there on the Cooper copies with you. Fantasy is pretty interesting to see once you get down like a little bit a little bit not further down. But like the guys who are, you have more off all contributions that you last year. For example like a Julio Joan you know he's heard that your work potentially with I don't know where he fall this year but last year he was up there even though we didn't exactly year. He didn't always get that the subject of the touchdown, but he was a falcon, but it is always much of fantasy football. But in some ways, you know you have to look and feel like I'm trying to think of who was like kind of a surprise on the left. I think it was interesting to see like Ashley Allen Robinson bit into some of Cooper Windshear with well it's good for the RAM but it for Cooper Individual venture may be brought down just a bit. But for Cooper cup it and refer out on it and drove it up a little bit higher so you can use it. Cynthia Freeland is with us right now from LA but had spent some time with the Buffalo Bills unit to their deep roster. But what impresses you about what they're doing as they approach another season where the expectations are so skyhigh in dialed in von Miller light DJs in the locker room and the guy like a lot, but they were like diet like every snap of the preseason. It didn't matter who was playing in the third game of the preseason.

The bill put out a lot of their is a guide to their trying to make the roster and all of the starters were glued and they were locked in and they dislike could not like they couldn't stop helping they loved it is a continuity here.

If you positions or change the continuity that means a lot. And then there their own line to be improved at least from every observation not be able to make. They have a lot of specialties going in their draft class is exceptionally deepening.

Jane Cook is the versatility and outside the rushing game third corners are wonderful and fixed round corner Christian Bedford out of Villanova. It looks incredible with higher eel in their first-round pick out of Florida to live address and positions of need. We thought Davis white isn't complete.

We help you fill your date they really they really got that night defensive back to so I have two nieces neither one of them thinks that I'm very cool, mostly because are not into sports will they lobby but they don't think that my job is all that exciting, which is fine with me. I'm okay with that ensure they know what I do for a living.

But you got to Sears and football with your knees.

I love the pictures.

I can imagine she thinks you are the coolest auntie on the planet. A lot of fun. We went to Niagara Falls (Buffalo was not far and we went on the maid of the minute for fun, we got jokes which would also open Friday we didn't really know you get that wet. But we did. We had a really good time. He was and I couldn't tell her this like that to keep like that, you know, keep keeper like thinking that you still need to listen to me, but she was like so well behaved without me even like asking and so it was really nice like copper.

You know, stay in the moment and enjoy it with me so it was really special so you get time. You know, pretty cute little we think is bit worthwhile.

Like all of our little fort spoiled so that's amazing, but it my nieces don't care much about sports, so they don't really care what I do for a living so you're blessed in that regard, Cindy. I know that to we have talked about.

Of other things of course I have to ask you about what happened with Baker Mayfield and the story that went viral on Tuesday were to take a quick break and then I get to hear your side of the story plus or something else that I've been dying to ask you about for over a month now so you are a great sport. Hang on, will get right back to Cynthia Freeland, the queen of data signs for NFL network is after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio you are listening to the after-hours podcast after-hours Lori so you think it is most lady about to be all NFL kickoff is mere days away because of that were thrilled to have a few minutes with Cynthia Freeland before we get to week number one the queen of data signs for NFL network. She's also one of our favorites and it's got a great personality is a lot of fine and what an interesting day on Tuesday in case you didn't hearing and Cynthia will will get your version of the story here, but in case you didn't hear Cindy was a guest on Monday's episode of around the NFL podcast and she created a bit of a firestorm with something she had to say about Baker me field. I walked up like I'm so excited to see you like kick some butt especially week one I like. Cannot wait any use of expletives and I was like I just hope you like racing I'm get up them up them up as that was quote was okay from around the NFL podcast that was our guest, Cynthia Freeland, who was still on the line with us from Los Angeles. All right Cynthia, here's your chance to what happened with Baker. I mean really not that big of a deal by the end of the game played the panther I wanted to Baker. I offered him good luck.

I I truly want to see Baker go out lighted up first overall pick.

You got a lot of firepower. He's a good quarterback.

We see very good production from him. It's not like you know something crazy and I enjoy I have covered infant before he came out into the league so you I remember leg doing a lot of analytics and it does remember back then he was." Very short. Meanwhile, we have much shorter quarterback right with you can't be overall for the ridiculous stuff right now I want you to prove everyone wrong like I so soon after the game and just the same as I would tell any of my girlfriends who are you going to a wedding and having fear act that basically would like give them the revenge body. You know, the cuter date show what they're missing out on. At the end of the day. Like I said we were having a conversation about that and I was supporting Baker and Neely agreed with me because let's be honest with what this book is in a situation so that you know what, I don't really want to be anyone this year, let alone the you know like you know but it took a bit of a life of its own and that's okay because look, I don't. I know my intention and you know there was we were on a field. It was not a you it was on a text message exchange with no whatever that regard, you're on it.

We were on a field after a game and I was offering support and I was, I think there's a lot of people who take the time to say mean things about Baker. I was taking the time to say, supportive things about Baker and you IIII shared. It got a little little little little out of context but you know whatever it is, but if people stop and stand back, respect, and I like 08 former player wants to beat the team that didn't give him a long-term contract. Is there any differently because it is a little silly silly. Most people would say that they agree with you. They want to see Baker do well in week number one against our team because of the way it played out because of who they replaced it with. I think people are being honest. So yes little bit silly. Just out of curiosity, did you hear anything from him. After all, this uproar not for Baker directly. I think that at the end of the day that the people with the best egos meeting the one to Oregon actually went. I didn't hear anything from them and they know was going on because the good people are focused on a football through good point Cynthia Freeland was a seer after hours on CBS sports radio okay. The other thing that I have to ask about this goes back to the end of July. The start of training camp where you somehow put together a video that really does simulate the way that Aaron Rodgers showed up to training camp.

I have got to ask how this came about because not only was the timing of your video so perfectly choreographed with him. You guys were wearing the same outfit that the funny part in the video and I would work not the belt but I was wearing when it came out. I know the only reason we did use the first day was because there was a construction being behind me and we wanted that shot so as a second case, and on and I want to make you kind of like looking at error lot like you not you. You looks like you I'm older I better sit. Did you deftly wore while finding I walked around my car like I remember when I got a little lucky with that. It was pretty funny because I mean I don't like my producer was really exaggerate the bag drop so I was like great idea a little more just to give you have no idea what I'm talking about. It is pinned to the top of Cynthia's Twitter and I'm it's been seeing so many hundreds of thousands of times. It's amazing that you know does not live watch that video, I can't even tell you, probably 24×25 times the choreography is so perfect lot because it was just very funny because I look like I'm with you I come to work what you like like a little wrap and brush my I just want to reiterate that you will scroll for you. Like the kids but you look great. I know you went for it with perfectly look like nickel may be made so good 01 upgrade because the year before. I showed up at a conference and I asked to bring the same outfit as Bill Polian by going prebuilt era two-time MVP quarterback and you wear the same outfit that's amazing.

I realized that I actually thought you got dressed to look like him well tied around a lot more because the man that's awesome you got to look at Cynthia's Twitter it's at sea Freeland FRELUND okay before he league are we playing football or what what's happening. We are I'd I was a little on my with Noel my head. You understand that peace girl piece. It was really funny Lindsay Rose was on the show about three weeks ago and we didn't realize we were actually both in your league with funny she's giving me all these tips on how to draft and what not to do early on. It essentially don't drive quarterbacks early on and then we realize were the same league and she's like okay everything I just said you do the off so much but I find the on Twitter. She is the queen of data science for NFL network and she's got some other places you can find her to that sense of humor never girl, thank you so much for couple of minutes grabbing a been a little in my head today. She says good for her. Let's let's take a straw poll wherever you are. Raise your hand if you want Baker to in this obviously be outside of Cleveland. If you want Baker to rough up the Cleveland Browns in week number one. Come on, the majority of football fans listening. The majority of football fans not listening. We want to see Baker do well against Cleveland. It's not an indictment of the Browns, at least not the team it's more an indictment of the front office and the decisions they made.

The fact that he was slighted and treated the way that he was now get into business that happens to a lot of guys and he's been an emotional girl for a good portion of the first four years in the NFL. Not to mention his college days, whether there are plenty of reasons to criticize the way the bakers handle his business, but it week number one after the Browns game does boot and went after DeShawn Watson and literally through themselves that DeShawn Watson outside of Cleveland.

I would be willing to bet the majority of people want to see Baker for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. Do you all remember we did a poll going back to shoot. I think it was when Baker Mayfield got traded to the Panthers and we asked you who will have a better record this year. Who will finish with more wins. Cleveland or Carolina. Two thirds of you sent Carolina and I truly believe that was not a commentary on the telling to be their team or the division of either team or the prospect of either team know it was an emotional reaction and so yes people want to see Baker do well in week one and the fact that Baker use colorful language is no big thing.

This is not a one-on-one interview. It was just an exchange. Now you can debate whether or not Cynthia should have shared that information specific like specifically's repeated what Baker said to her, I don't know that I would've I might have paraphrased it just said yes.

He told me he wants to do well. Something along those lines, I don't think I would repeated the exact phrase because that's what made headlines. That was the click bait that was what went viral, but at the same time that is Baker.

And even if it's not something you say in polite circles. We all know that's exactly how it feels because not a big secret. Just the fact that he sent it to someone who then repeated it, but Cynthia is a great journalist and she is really good at what she does that she says honestly she wants to see Baker exact some revenge. Like most of the rest of the United States of America and its football fans right J can say that I would like oh yeah all about it and that game is not nationally televised. I will find some way to do just a little old man week. What is got some scintillating battles and reunions.

If you will.

You can find me on Twitter a all radio coming up at the top of the hour. Your chance to ask Amy anything right.

Are we doing top of the hour okay are you sure you have enough material. Okay, so send your questions next half hour to pursue our show Twitter after our CBS or to our Facebook page and then will get to those or J will get to those we still have some QB news. We want Kyle Shanahan speaks about to be garrotte below and his decision with their decision collectively to stay married as opposed to get a divorce.

My job when he's being cagey. I like it that would Mike Tomlin is cagey. It's more fun that way. So if still allow her to examine in these next 2 1/2 hours. You are listening to the after-hours podcast in your life are different things little different, so it is game on looking for adjustments within the system so that is what started with knowledge of it not going out and seeing it putting in an action after-hours Lawrence week one we all know whoever was making up this portion of the NFL schedule guessed correctly.

As you can imagine there was likely a discussion going on with the schedule makers well Baker Mayfield could end up traded to Seattle or he could be traded to Carolina at this point. Pretty much every other team had a starting quarterback and those were the two options well eating meeting Massimo flip a coin. Something along those lines, and they ultimately settled on the Browns in Charlotte so Browns and Panthers in week wine and lo and behold that is exactly where Baker Mayfield will make his next start in Charlotte 40 Panthers will and after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio top of the hour, actually. Can we flip it. I want to do something else. The top of the hour, so an hour from now will do. Ask Amy just because I'm thinking flow of the show and I want to do something I want to smother things. The top of the hour. Okay so were to push it back and you ask Amy at the time slot that we've been doing it for 8+ years an hour from now your chance to ask Amy anything and so that what you got a few extra minutes to send your questions to twitter after our CBS or to our Facebook page. What makes AutoZone America's number one battery destination because they offer free battery testing and charging and reliable replacement batteries. They've always got your battery solution. Get in the zone AutoZone top of the hour what you hear from John wall and an opportunity to react to what John said candid open certainly transparent and vulnerable admission from one of the NBA's greats over the last 10 years or so white hear what he had to say is certainly making headlines, but beyond that, I hope that it's reminding people that they are not alone will do that at the top and also the victim.

The alleged victim in the Matt Araiza civil lawsuit former bills punter. Not only will you hear from her. She did an interview with CBS News, but the attorney for Araiza and his theory about why this is happening after-hours here on CBS sports radio, fun to see that the US open under the lights with Serena Williams on Monday. Actually had some friends who are not huge, sports fans, but are following Serena. Whether this is her exit whether she continues to play, we see her again however long she lasts at the U.S. Open.

I happen to cross ties with them on Tuesday afternoon and they asked me about Serena mentioned that they were watching her on Monday night so we know that the atmosphere supercharge for her and her sister Venus lost in the first round of singles, but the two of them will play together in double so there's much more of the Williams sisters to come. But in addition to that also need to see Raffaella Dall back on the U.S. Open stage. He has not been in New York in quite a while and maybe talk a little bit to get reactivated to prime time in Arthur Ashe Stadium how loud the crowd is what you may remember he had till to pull out of Wimbledon so he did not get to finish what he started it Wimbledon.

He was supposed to play in the semi's but had a torn abdominal muscle and now is coming back and and playing in the U.S. Open for the first time since 2019. So it's been a three year hiatus for Raffaella Dall and this is an opportunity now for the fans in New York to see him again and course New York is all about the big stars New York is all about the brightest lights and the biggest celebrities so he is now 16 and all in the first round of the U.S. Open in his career, but then I have some of what I was not able to make it so that I would like to have the brick was old and that was the first was much here in New York after the city's my session is always exciting on the yes I went to the it's the stuff moments that I live at the close was not yeah copy so much into today's Melissa so in some way, was not the day to do just made the job done and that's what I did so rangy he Takada rangy. He Takada that was to Raffaella Dall actually dropped a set to in this opening match and then ended up winning three in a row. Where would you guess that Ricci he Takada is from Malaysia, Australia is given name, so it was a slow start to get maybe a little better rise to maybe a little bit well but he hadn't played very much since pulling out of Wimbledon ultimately ends up winning. Moving on and is very emotional at the end which is typical Raab about first time at the U.S. Open since 2019. Welcome back to the United States of America. Raffaella Dall, Naomi Osaka out in straight sets in the first round and this is how women's tennis has gone for the past couple of years. It's so topsy-turvy.

There are stars that you expect to put a run together and be around for a while. A tournament like this, a major and they'll be out early and there's people that women that the majority of sports fans don't know and fact, it was what amaretto can do. Just last year who had this surge to start at the U.S. Open. She is now in the first round so Naomi Osaka. She ends up losing actually to Danielle Collins who is try to think if I can remember any of her and she's American. And we know that she's had a couple of deep runs to not it majors necessarily have to go back and remember, but she's she's another one of those young younger just American women who will try to fill this void post Serena Williams so it's just it's wide open now with Osaka and and radically new out as well.

That's on the women's side of the men's side. Also, with no no back to Greenwich yes Raab maybe not playing his best tennis right out of the gate on the will see what happens.

But honestly, this is great for Serena, even though she is to play the number two seed coming up on Wednesday. Some of these other seeds are knocked out well then, would I don't think easier because that's not really true is a lot of very young women who will water all over the court, but the fact that there could be some of these top seeds dropped out or eliminated early, at least, would give her a fighting chance that after hours here on CBS sports radio from tennis U.S. Open just getting started about a way to talk to men side also out to golf where they just wrapped up their playoffs. The FedEx cup goes to Rory McElroy and even as he is accepting the FedEx cup and the money that comes with it. He's taking the opportunity to point out how amazing the PGA Tour is and how much to peek at much more superior it is to the live tour and right after that, the number two player in the world, Cameron Smith, who won the open championship is among a handful of guys who are headed to Boston to participate in the next live tournament, effectively ending lease for now their tenure with the PGA and can't Smith is Australian but it's a big loss and he understands all the criticism that comes with making this defection, the so stories and show the lawsuit is no binder standards. That's what it said.

So he and Samantha tried to dodge the questions about whether or not he was defecting going back to that open championship and he even again was facing the questions because the reports are out that he was conjunct to live tour.

He was again trying to avoid the questions at the start of the FedEx cup playoffs.

Obviously having this plan in place to put it off until the FedEx cup was done and then he could go right to Boston from Atlanta to Boston as some of these others are so Cameron Smith says, and I maybe will get the audio at some point but he says that there were two reasons why he decided to join live number one money number two. The schedule and so he tells golf digest that his decision was financial and schedule related to the quote money was definitely a factor in making that decision.

I won't ignore that or say that wasn't a reason.

It was obviously a business decision for one at an offer I couldn't ignore the biggest thing for me. Joining is the lives schedule is really appealing. I'll be able to spend more time at home in Australia and maybe have an event down there as well. I haven't been able to do that and to get that part of my life back was really appealing. So a lot of these guys will admit that yes were talking about life-changing money were talking about the kind of money that not only provides for you for the rest of your life and he's already made millions. But this is the kind of money that you can put away that you can invest even save and it affects generations family generations and so there's there's going to ignore that the money is life-changing.

But at the same time. Many of these guys are also looking at the schedule three days instead of four days. Yes, you have commitments beforehand programs and media events and various obligations on site, but they don't play every week and he says I want to have the chance to go home now and then maybe two plate international event in Australia which I have been able to do annual seal notice more and more. There is definitely an international layer to the live group of golfers is after hours with Amy Lawrence CBS sports radio
