More on this later in the program. Now let's get started with today's teaching here is Alan Wright John Valjean, the hero, Victor Hugo's Les Miserables and the only part of the novel. He has spent the night for safekeeping in the house of a gracious priest in the middle the night John Valjean wakes and he remembers the silverware that he had seen, and the evening and how valuable it would be and how I could sell it and so he he he steals the silver and slips away in the middle of the night. The next day. Authorities are rapping at the door and they have called Valjean the priest, the bishop comes in his Valjean is expecting to be handed over to the law and punished duly. He is shocked by this bishops reaction the bishop interrupts the authorities and he says John Valjean said you you come back good. He said because I wanted you to also take the silver candlesticks they are equally valuable and Valjean's stunned by this grace and gives him the candlesticks and authorities and so are you saying bishop. The you did give him these items he didn't steal them is almost certainly under that he could take them and sell them and so be sure and get the candlesticks as well. Valjean is speechless and finally says so am I really authorities say yes you are free and the Msgr. are steps out to John Valjean says I want you to remember this happen and has this great line. John Valjean, my brother, you no longer belong to evil to good is your soul that I buy from you.

I withdraw it from black thoughts and the spirit of perdition, and I give it to God, bottom by grace, the novel unfolds with John Valjean doing good the rest of his life. That's what grace nice grace and delivers us from sin. It does not give us a license to sin gives us a license to not send Galatians chapter 5 I want today to put a stake in the ground as strong as I know how to answer the question wherever preach grace, grace, grace somebody's in the same way you just preach that grace, like that then you give people a license to sin, and of course the best preacher answer to that is, people are already setting without a license, but I plan and that today from the words of the apostle Paul in Galatians chapter 5 verse seven you were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth. This persuasion is not for memo calls a little leaven leavens the whole lump.

We talked about that, by the way that a little bit of wall post talking about the seed of law, and fear injected into the gospel affects the whole message and he says work.

I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view than mine.

And that's I come with that same faith today. I have confidence church you take this view that I bring to you today is will Paul say and one is troubling you is really talking about the spiritual battle will bear the Pendley whoever is, but if I brother still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted in that case the offense. The cross is been removed. I wish those who unsettle you and emasculate themselves for you. You were verse 13 you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flash but through love serve one another. That's our text today for the whole law is fulfilled in one word, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. We want to do today is instead of instead of going Line by line through this magnificent text which I would. I would like to be able to go through line by line. I want to instead focus on verse 13 and want to to speak about what real freedom is want to speak about it from the context of everything that Paul's been saying to the Galatians, but also from the context of the whole of the Scriptures how I want to appeal to appeal to your logic on appeal to your your funnybone. I want to I want to truly invite you to laugh with me at sin. It laughs that you today be a day for you to laugh at it, to laugh at the shame that has always attempted to mock you but to do so with the force of about a mighty spiritual battle that leads us to conclude with prayer for a great great day of a victory of infilling of the Holy Spirit and clarity about this is so very, very, very important that we be able to answer this question. Aren't you just giving people a license to sin. When you preach grace it's so important not just because when we preach the gospel, we want to be able to be articulate about why it is that were not given people license to sin, but I think that is very important for you and for me because what's at stake is our capacity to believe and receive the gospel. What I mean is this. If there is a little 2% to 1% or 10% of your thinking that when you hear the gospel announced to you and you hear grace, and you hear the love of God. If there's a little party goes yeah but if I really receive that it might cause me to cast off restraint into sin all the more if there's a little part of you that things like that. You'll be hesitant to receive the gospel in their this this there's an attraction in the in the broken humanity to the law and we think it must be that way.

So part of what I'm trying to convey today is to answer this questions the silence that little voice it says well you better not go all out for grace because you got a temper it with a little bit longer to their sin, and so I will want to silence that as we talk about what real Christian freedom is when aunt Richard is directly and deeply, as I know how to answer the question if you just tell people that God loves them and forgives them and they can go to heaven even if they sin if you tell people that even when they sin. God only loves them but they're still blessed with every spiritual blessing in that they are merited with the righteousness of Christ is because of their faith in Christ. If you tell them to Mike that you don't put a little bit of of of fear of punishment in their then people are going to keep on sinning even worse, you give license assent.

I'll answer that question today what Christian freedom really, and I do so by pointing to misconceptions about what freedom is and the whole question the license to sin. Bastion that whole argument is based on a huge hilarious misconception and that is if you think about it if you say would you just going to people license to San you're implying that sin is just absolutely wonderful and every body wants to sin and only reason nobody is you know anybody is not sinning is because all these rules and if you take away those roles. Advisement just naturally do what they really want to do is am I want to sin.

I'm asking people want to do and I wanted to start with that question right there really anyone we really saying. Sin is so wonderful. Everybody wants to sin… Let's let's really, let's take some of the most awkward start with some of the Big Ten with stateless tight lying. I really liked up in the morning goes okay. Can't wait a lot of people today man lad.

A lot of people today on this. Do some illegitimate business practices, lattice, and people there people that are close to me a lot to them about about several different thing that lying is that once you live you can't remember who you lied to and is really hard to cover it up. After that I will load mild Stanley once said that the Council be with people like like people try to hold multiple beach balls under the water all at the same time you just worried that this will pop up in somebody's gonna going to see it.

It takes so much mental energy to to lie and to deceive people and to not only that, but when you are are lying to people and you're not ever tell anybody the truth. It means that nobody knows who you really are.

If nobody knows who you really are that it means your without friends and if your without friends without intimacy and you don't give and share real love because real love is in the context of honesty. That's where intimacy takes place and so we never know the sweetest thing in life and that is in ships and less will to actually honest and so people that lie are they are using up all their energy for the lies and their lonely talent right will have more teaching moment from today's important series like something is holding you back if you can important see that could change everything. Is there someone you love hissing stock to help them back child. What's missing blessing on Basingstoke and over I learned you can learn how to embrace the will practice a blessing to Pastor Alan writes new, but it's a blast, which quickly became an enzyme number one bestseller after 370s until now the hardcover book has only been available through retail sales this month right ministries once send you the book I thank you for your demos make your gift today discovered the power to bless the gospel is shared when you get Allen right ministries. When you get today. We will send you a special offer. We are happy to send this to you as I banks from Allen right ministries, seven 877-544-4860 877-544-4861 come to our website pastor and got like today's teaching now continues once again is people don't wake up in the morning and say I really like to be a liar today. People lie because they aren't happy with how people view them because they're in trouble or because they're insecure what what we really want is not the freedom to lie really want to have the freedom to not have to live okay another another stealing and about no ladies another, but not everybody likes to shop that most do, and I I don't have any studies to verify this. I have only anecdotal evidence, but have been married for 27 years… I don't have a study to show you, but I'm pretty sure I can tell you women on the whole, don't wake up in the morning and go home boy I can't wait to shoplift today, but they also like to say I can't wait to be so fun to go shopping today.

What ladies like to do is not shoplift. They like to shop. Shoplifting is a fun nothing… And I wouldn't I wouldn't know. But I don't imagine it would be fun to sneak around into the corner you want to see government corner store and look over this way and that when looking see what in the cameras anything looking then slip some item back to the to the dressing room and stuff it into that overstuffed size pocketbook or whatever and then and then you get to find how fun is that anyone an adrenaline rush and walk out and wonder whether the bird is going to go off you know are not going to get you capture what what fun that's that's not what people want to do what people like you wonder is what we want to do. They want to actually go shopping when they have money to actually buy something that is way more fun than going to the store and not having any money where you're going to have to steal something. Stealing is in fine and really we wake up in the morning. I'd really like to steal something today know people steal because of some form of either emptiness in their life where they have and have suffered mind sure have a vision of their life in which they can't envision being able to work to have money or envision somebody caring for them and in and there's a there's a reason that people don't want to. People don't want to just live. People don't want to just steal what about covetousness is a juicy one now wake up in the morning man is going be a good day I get to covet all day long yeah how great fun is that just you know roll over in bed and go. You're not the one I want to be married to. I really want to be married to someone else while that's great fun right there and I walked out look at someone else's house, and I wish I had that house.

This is is is any covetousness is the greatest formula for misery. I mean if you are going to just tell somebody a road map to misery. Just explain how to covet the just look at everything you have in and don't like it and look at what other people have and think that's what you ought to have that is easy. Easiest way I know him to be miserable is that.

I mean you just be absolutely miserable.

No matter cutting done matter how much you have, always able to covet what somebody else has.

You can have almost everything and still be miserable coveting what somebody else had wakes up in the morning.

This would be covetous now today I will mix them with my line in shoplifting.

I would just mix in a bunch of covetousness this is going be a banner day today. The reason that people actually have been is because they are inwardly in the you know we really want.

We don't really want to covet.

We want to be content, not having everything we want, but wanting everything we have is the greatest feeling in the world you've ever had one moment of contentment in your life you know it is delicious. Just one moment where you disable to go. How come the last I will have everything that I don't have to have everything. I like what I is a great feeling as a great well I can go to all the 10 Commandments I could not think we could sit here and we reason together, we can go through almost every sin and the book. This one just as that one. This is this a small one is in the Big Ten but I'm just thinking about how maybe in honor of all the college freshmen starting up over next week.

Maybe the college freshmen will come under the sound amount my voice because of some of them would just be like. Can't wait to get to college so they can get drunk that is wonderful there just like that's when I does not understand me. I do not understand this talk about get drunk is that that in the first place. You lose your inhibition and start doing stupid things and people affect.

Now normally and life was unusual about this if you want get drunk normally analyze you don't people laughing at you because you're doing stupid things I try to not do stupid things so people won't laugh at me.

So the idea that I want to get myself into position where I will do stupid things. So the people laugh at me.

To me know what what a pleasure at is no and if you get really really drunk and then unknowingly get do stupid things, but you could get arrested for it would not be fun. You did that this is just get arrested or if you know you left it wouldn't just be dumb enough seeing lots of causes.

When I was in my dormitory space going for it. Carolyn saw this happen right often.

What fun this is to come back out your mind stumbling around and you get to come back and throw throw up and throw like going out. I know I give them something to me. I know I'm not one of those, like all I feel sick I better go back and get this over with no outside all night long. I hate the feeling of falling so but yet you can come in and throw up in all times because you're out of your mind. You throw up on yourself and nobody please yeah your mom made an error in the college dormitory and in an sometimes just pass out in your own vomit and wake up with a splitting headache that is some fun sin right there is just so fine then preach the gospel. We better watch out because I want this to covet shop land and throw up on themselves so we preach the gospel too much grace really does let people lose to go out and have all San Miguel soon so because their slaves to sin and we got a little set people free. What freedom is freedom and the freedom to get drunk and thought to himself free of the bill say no thank you freedom covet lust after everything in freedom to be a walk right by what Paul is talking about is not freedom to sin. He's talking about the freedom from sin and how it happens in the freedom from sin comes in our lives by grace and grace. I mean, think about these examples I used. For example, people live. Why they're afraid of rejection. Ashamed of who they really are or what they've done right. The child breaks the cookie jar lies why I'm afraid that I'll be rejected in some way. I'm afraid of the punishment that will come lie are rooted in fear of punishment right in today's license said it from our series on Galatians and Allen Wright is back here in the studio. In a moment with us for additional insight on how this applies to our lives. In today's final word stay with us blessing your life God's grace filled vision for signing rights, free grace and encouragement blessing.

We are happy to send this to you as I thanks from Alan Wright Ministries, seven 877-544-4860 877-544-4861 come to our website pastor at Gatwick for a preacher to say you don't have to sin and leave it at that. Must be blissful only were. That's why you say there's a way out of that bonded well. I think that one of the tricks of the enemy Daniel and get into the Christians mindset is that we are sinners and therefore we are stuck in our sin and there is no real hope out of that sin in the beginning point is important for some of our listeners here is to have somebody say by the authority the Scripture. Sin does not have to be your master. The longer you can change and this is the constant promise of New Testament Christianity.

It doesn't mean that we're going to ever in this world's perfect and not sin at all, but that instead of people saying grace all that this would give people license to sin.

That's what we get this message note grace if you license not to sin.

And that's what this is about today's good news message listener supported production Alan Wright Ministries
