The problem of that glory of the old covenant was that though it came with glory. The old covenant itself did not have one shred of power for the people of God to be able to keep it so the law is good, but the law rings no power to those who seek to keep it. It only points out your in adequacy to be able to keep the law wasn't bad. It came in glory, but no one was able to keep it. Moses pleads with the Lord bless the Lord annihilate the people. So God spares them in an Exodus 33 after the Lord has said, I'll just send an angel with you to go to the promised land. I'm nodding want to get that close teamwork. Moses said Exodus 3315. If your presence will not go with me. Do not bring us up from here.

He said I don't want the promised land unless I have your presence. I rather be in the wilderness with your presence and verse 17 the Lord said to Moses, this very thing that you spoke and I will do for you have found favor in my sight. So why is the Lord going to let Moses, behold more of his presence because you have found favor in my sight that word in the New Testament favor is the word Caras, which is the word grace. It won't be long will be reading the familiar story of an angel that comes to a peasant Nazarene woman named Mary who trembles before the angel and the angel says do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God and that word is grace you've been graced so keep that in mind, because here is the whisper of God to us saying you will encounter my glory, but it will not be because you kept up your end of the bargain. It will be my bike.

Grace and Moses says in verse 18. Please show me your glory when Moses came down and saw the golden calf. He threw down the tablets and broke them. God spared the people and invited Moses to come back to meet with him again is what my wife calls a whisper.

I like that God whispering notice this for future reference. When my people break my covenant. I have the capacity to give them a whole new better covenant and Moses went back on the mountain and met with God and he beheld the glory of God. And this is what we read it.

Exodus 3429 when Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two Testaments of the two tablets of the testimony is hand. He would remove the veil until he came out and when he came out and told the people of Israel what was commanded the people of Israel would see the face of Moses the skin of Moses face was shining and Moses would put the veil over his face again until he went on to speak with the Lord again so get this image because Moses had gone into the cloud and come into the presence of this consuming glorious God he literally had a physical manifestation happening where his face took on a whole new countenance and everyone knew was something that was otherworldly and they were afraid of Moses and so Moses put the veil down when he talked to the people. But then we would go back and meet with God he lift up the veil. He met with God, with unveiled face as if to say whatever glory you have. I want to take it, the people can't handle it, but Moses said, I want to take all I can handle that is all the background to second Corinthians chapter 3 and we needed to see all of that.

If you have any understanding of this magnificent text because Paul is making a comparison, a contract contrast between the glory of the old and the glory of the new second Corinthians 3 verse three and you show speaking to the Corinthian church that your letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the spirit of the living God. Now you start noticing these contrasts I underline them not with ink but with the spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone.

Speaking of the 10 Commandments it was representative of all the law, but on tablets of human hearts. It speaks of the sufficiency that they have his ministers from God is not about their own righteousness, but he says in verse six he who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit and listen to this remarkable thing he says here just I mean it's just mindbending that a former Pharisee would say this, but this was that the letter which is a synonym for the old covenant for Moses for the law. The letter kills, but the spirit gives life and comparing the old and the new and even more dramatic terms. He says in verse seven. If the ministry of death. Speaking of the old covenant carved in letters of stone came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze it Moses face because of his glory should be brought to an end will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory just piles of the comparison. Further, verse nine. For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation. The ministry of righteousness must far exceeded in glory even more plainly, he says the glory of the one is so much greater than it completely overtakes it in verse 10. Indeed, in this case. He doesn't have to do anything else for you to be able to encounter his glory and be filled with the power of his spirit.

When I weighed in on anything else. Alleluia the blood of Jesus is sufficient once and for all and is a resurrection power is at work in you now. We will one day be transported out of here into a glorious new heaven and new earth where we will with unveiled faces will hold him directly, but what Paul is saying is that the new covenant has come.

Christ has made the promises Christ as The promises and we who are in Christ and become his righteousness. So what this means brothers and sisters wrap your mind around this. There was a cloud in a fire in an earthquake at Mount Sinai, and Moses. Is it taken away. Yes, to this day, whenever Moses is read whatever the law is read whenever you have an old covenant mentality. That's what that means. If you read your Bible through an old covenant mentality, even a little bit saying if I will be good. Then God will bless me. If you do that, even a little bit. Paul is saying the veil returns.

Their minds were hardened. Again, verse 14, for to this day when they read the old covenant that same veil remains on lifted because only two prizes it taken away. Yes, to this day, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts.

So what you saying is that God has made you in Christ, such that you are always designed to experience his transcendence. You are welcome into the presence of God. And when you're in a new covenant, it means that you're in the presence of God by the glorious of the gift of Jesus Christ in his shed blood, in his righteousness alone, but there is a terrible temptation. The spirit of religion always seeks to come upon the heart and the mind of the believer to bring old covenant notions that if you will be a little bit better than God love you little more if you will be a little bit more religious then God will bless you more that you can't really experience the Holy Spirit. You can't really have the power of God in your life because you're not good enough. And that's really essentially what hell wants to do through the spirit of religion and what Paul saying is if you read your Bible like that. If you think like that if you listen to a sermon, and that's what you hear if that's what you think what you do is like the veil comes back is not that you don't see God at all packages you're not seeing him in his full glory.

When you trust in him and he says the therefore we verse 18, with unveiled filet face, beholding the glory of God and that is changing us.

We are made this way. So somewhere today somebody's telling ghost stories. Somebody's doing some scary at the house and there movies that are playing and you're wondering why we want to watch something that we actually want to hide from is because beloved the human soul craves to experience the power and wonder and glory of God.

And so what this means is that every Christian. This is what the invitation is to you. You have been given such glorious justification through Christ and in his shed blood alone that all your sins forgiven and you been declared to be the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ, so that there needs to be no veil between you and God.

And you get to experience God that powerfully and that up close, the creator of the cosmos, who dwells in and with the believer that use the presence Holy Spirit and that really is the only good ghost story.
