Now let's get started with today's teaching years, Allen Wright, are you ready I is live and that is news that is not just like okay well that's nice word. It is, it is the gospel which means good news and it is good news that is so good it seems to be too good to be true, and it is true and that's what makes it so good to show you the scene of several disciples of women and other disciples as they encounter the risen Lord Jesus, and they are so astonished that it's hard to believe it, but to then go back and look at a scene in the life of the prophet Elisha is, we cannot throw an enriching series of the study of these miracle Mal Aydin, Elisha and learning how they point us toward the true miracle man Jesus.

So we really be in Luke 24, but they were going to be spending our timely functional second Kings chapter 4 here's the story in Luke chapter 24 at verse 36 Luke 24 verse 36 as they were talking about the things Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, peace to you, but they were startled and frightened and thought they saw spirit a centum.

Why are you troubled, I wanted doubts arise in your hearts see my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.

Touch me and see for spirit do not have flesh and bones as you see that I have and when he said that as he showed them his hands and his feet and this is verse I really want to point to. And while they still disbelieved for joy and they were marveling. He said to them, have you anything to eat. I love that phrase while they disbelieved for joy that they believed that they disbelieved, they they it was so wonderful that they could hardly believe it. That's that's what I want to talk to about that second Kings chapter 4 is a riveting story and the life of Elisha that attracts my attention initially because it actually is story here which Elisha is used by the Lord to bring about a miracle of the bringing back to life of a vote of a shoe might woman's son, but despite the fact that resurrection story so appropriate today. What I really want to point you to is how the sun came in the world in the first place. In this woman's reaction. If this is second Kings chapter 4, and I'm starting reading in verse 81.

Elisha went on to shoot him were a wealthy woman lived who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way he would turn and eat food and she said her husband will now I know this is a holy man of God is continually passing away. Let us make a small room on the roof of walls and but there for him a bad table chair and lamp so that whenever he comes us. He can go in there one day he came there he turned into the chamber and rest of their eccentric Ozzie assortment called issue might when you called her. She stood before him, and he said to him Satan out of her seat. You have taken all this trouble for us. What is to be done for you.

Who would you have a word spoken on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the Army and she answered I dwell among my own people and he said what that has to be done for her. God has answered well see has no son and her husband is old and he said call her and we had called her. She stood in the doorway and he said at this season. About this time next year you shall embrace a son. I will get a response and she said no, my Lord.

Oh man of God do not live tears, but the woman conceived and she bore a son about that time. The following spring as Elisha had said to her, Alexander Sanders was at one point the chief judge of the South Carolina circuit Court of Appeals and he spoke at nothing. In 1993 graduation services at University of South Carolina and as he gave his commencement address. His daughter Zoe was there as a graduating member of that years versus Carolina class and he told a story about her when she was just three years old.

He came home one day Judge Sanders did to a family crisis, the pet turtle had died, Zoe's little pet turtle had died and little three-year-old Zoe was just inconsolable just crying her heart out and so so his mom was very happy to his hand this thing over to the dad and so he started trying to figure out a way to console her, and he tried the age old tactic of first saying Zoe honey we will go to the pet store and get you another turtle way even though she was only three. She couldn't be taken in by that sort of superficial trickery, you can just go to the pet store and just by another creature that looks like yours and call that a replacement fee that I want my chart all of my bag and she cried all the harder. So he took a different approach and he said I tell you what we will have a fine funeral for your turn and she's out what funeral he sent a funeral is trying to think of a way to put it in her terms as it is like a festival is one of those little and then the light turned on for the dad and he finally came to the right sort of terms that she could understand. He said a festival is sort of like a birthday party. He said I tell you what will do will have all of your friends come over from the neighborhood will have cake and ice cream and balloons and games and have a big party all because your turtle has died. Well, she stopped crying and she started smiling at the thought of all of this and just as she was contemplating this big party. She and her dad both saw it at the same time, the unimaginable happened. They look down and the turtle started moving. It started switch and a little bit and then in a few moments.

It was just crawling around as lively as it had before and the dad is going what is it a miracle is a resurrection what we'll do about this but little three-year-old. So we already had it figured out and spontaneously looked up with childlike candor and said daddy let's kill it. The ambivalence that the disciples felt on a resurrection morning was not an ambivalence were thankfully they were considering putting it back in the chair but they were ambivalent in this sense, they wanted to believe, but it seemed too good to be true. If you ever had a time in your life where there was something that you just wanted to believe it and you sort it did believe it but there was a part of you that disbelieved for joy just seemed too good to be true when our son Bennett was little he beg he wanted a PlayStation but we were. We were very very thoughtful about this because I know I wanted why we want our kids love to read and we want to love the play with their friends in the backyard and not sit front screen all the time and so we we put off for a long time. Years went by and and and Bennett thought he was going to be that kid that was never allowed to have this up PlayStation and finally we just said well we were given a ring and give him a PlayStation for Christmas and so we wrapped up around the tree and out I came her wage he was. But I'll never forget what he did when he opened it up this boy. He thought he'd never get a PlayStation. He opened up and there was that blue box with the work PlayStation written on the outside and he looked at us like is this really a PlayStation.

We just smile and nod her head like this and he said I see it with my eyes but I can't believe it in my heart right will have more teaching from today's important series like something is holding you back if you can important see that could change everything. Is there someone you love to sing stock now. What's missing blessing on the vision spoken over you can learn how to embrace who practice a blessing to Pastor Alan writes new book, which quickly became an enzyme number one bestseller after 370s until now the hardcover book has only been available through retail sales this month right ministries once send you the I thank you for your demo send this not only receive the best-selling but also receive a free session video place in which Pastor Alan teaches how to blast and covers kind of video course includes a detailed study guide perfect for personal growth or small-group discussion. We are happy to send this to you as I thanks from Alan Wright Ministries, seven 877-544-4860 877-544-4861 come to our website Pastor Alan.like today's teaching now continues here once again is this your my woman was like that. She was told that America was going to happen here, you have the sun and her spontaneous reaction was no light in the God that sounds too good to be true, and a friend of mine, a pastor friend Kenny Thacker was the one who first pointed this out to me and said you know when you hear the gospel unless there's a part of you that wants to say back to the preacher don't lie to me manner God.

You probably had heard the gospel.

I want to show you again today the gospel that is so good that it seems to be too good to be true, but it is true and that's why it is so so what I'm talking about is news. The written Eastern news gospel news this good news is not the kind of news that you just go wow that's that's nice is not the case and you say what that is. That's an inspiring thought that no that's not what happens if you actually hear about the real gospel it it's it's it's a lot of people think your church is about you go you hear I was really good. We got five steps to have a better marriage or some like that. All that might have its place. What I'm saying is the gospel is something that would just astonishing right me as an example okay basketball. I hesitate even bring up basketball because all my teams were long gone, and the Baylor Bears didn't even make it my Tar Heels exited way too early in the second round and thankfully the only thing about Carolina losing to Texas A&M is that I didn't watch the game. I was on the road and I just felt like I was for the mercy of God to me was, you know, actually I didn't have to watch it about that. I don't want to lose and it's almost like they didn't lose and so but I did check the score is check the score midway through the game there down by 12 points is that all and I do so I'm I'm a check again. But then I did check again and it it it got even worse and and and in a lawsuit is dismal welcome.

You can imagine, though, if I had checked it midway through their down by dozen point. If I had come back later and checked it and realized that the score now till I was about one or two that they overcome the deficit and taken the lead. I would celebrate yes that's awesome when you said you lied to me that I couldn't be.

I would say that because I want to come back from a deficit many times I may be good news to be worthy of celebration. Yeah, go, go heels but it wouldn't be like what that don't like me… That can't be safe. I mean, that's good news, but is not shocking news is in the gospel shocking news it be more like a very play this illustration out to be more like if I came and I said Carolina fans just get ready for this. Just in the prayer room back there. Check the yellow press release just came out part of the press AP press release just really said I'm I'm just in here to announce it to you and seen as yet is that the NCAA tournament basketball committee has met and they have made an unprecedented decision. They have decided that even though Carolina technically lost in the second round because Carolina is so good and because two years ago they got cheated out of a national chain widget when Villanova had a lucky shot.

They have decided to remove Michigan from the championship game and put Carolina in their lives better.

Michigan anyway so put them in their championship game. After all, they still got a shot at this so you go to a lot of me manner God that that happen since the gospel is that is can news it rocks your world changes everything. Part of the reason that the gospel is so astonishing is because it touches upon your deepest hunger and deepest need and until you are in touch love it until you're in touch with what your soul really wants more than anything else. I don't think you can really ever hear the gospel you it has to come this point where you're in touch with how much you need God. And then you hear about how much God loves you and how much God is done for you that that's that's what happens this whole story starts with Elisha who is the prophet of Israel and this mighty man of God finds hospitality in this woman's home. This woman lives in a town shown in town, but she she wanted to be a blessing to Elisha so she and her husband. They made a little room on the roof and the little bedroom so the little vacation condo for the prophet and they put a bed, table and chair in there and they would see them know this woman was what was she was one of those church ladies that I mean she knew how to do this I mean she was providing the preacher with homegrown tomatoes in the summer silver clean corn fresh and and offered her vacation condo. This is the perfect parishioner is so she summer is coming to St. and and Elisha was blessed by all this and he wanted to be a blessing to her.

So he said to her you know he essentially said what could be done for you. He wanted to be a blessing or by the way I want you to make sure you understand this about God. This is the nature of God. He is so blessed in and of himself that he wants to bless you. God doesn't want to bless you because he's impressed by something that you do for God is want to bless you because he has been removed by some dude you perform no God is in and of himself, full of blessedness and so he loves to express that he is a perfect father who has loved to give.

He is a master artist who has a masterpiece to paint. He is like a flower you saw driving to church this morning and spring time that it is going to burst forth in all of its glory. Just because it is a flower and spring has come. This is the nature of God, so may people think God might be reluctant to bless reluctant to care reluctant to love note, God is want to say and who cannot blessed today and Elisha was saying this.

What could be done for this woman and see this woman was a wealthy woman and she had all the appearance of some I didn't need anything you know that sometimes there are people that look like they have everything and they don't need anything, and yet the truth of the matter is everybody needs something. I just tell you one of the great privileges of being a pastor is that people confide in you there longings their disappointments and their secrets. Answer seen this over all the decades that so often people even within the church tend to think well I wish I could be more like so-and-so because she just has altogether and she didn't have any problems or needs, but if you were to talk to so-and-so, she would probably say the same thing.

In other words, we all have something that we need an ally. She was saying. What does this woman need what is it and at first he says you only speak to the commander on your behalf. He is essentially saying I've got connections may be your husband you get a promotion in the government. Maybe you need a financial get what what is it that you need because he didn't know, and God hadn't shown them anything that the woman needed yet and she first said I live among people what she was saying was I really have a need to face me saying I'm good… And what you need she said I'm good. And so Elisha turned his servant and he said there must be something that she need and the servant said well her husband's old and she has no son.

As soon as he said that, I think the Lord just gave a revelation to the prophet Elisha, and she sought an instant just like that what God was going to do for this woman because as soon as he said she has her old husband and no son.

He had introduced a very serious problem. People in the our culture and people of the history of the world long to be parents and anyone who is not been able to be a parent.

Biologically, is felt the pain of that grief but is different in the ancient Middle Eastern culture because this is a culture in which the whole plan sociologically for caring for the aged was the. The children would do that and the sign would carry on the family estate so here's what the picture was. She had an older husband who is likely to die far before she she had no son to carry on the family estate of family business or take care of her.

So this was a serious problem that had been introduced and it was the deep longing of her heart and when Elisha said by this time next year you're going to be holding a sign her reaction to it was to say colliding the man of God because he had just landed upon her deepest desire, one that maybe she had covered up with years and years of submerging it down into the deeper places of her soul and she was essentially saying to him, don't you dare do that right. We've all had a moment like that in our lives. It's part of her teaching today. Don't lie to me man of God from the series miracle man and Alan is back in a moment with additional insight on this for your life, and a final word like something is holding you back if you can important see that could change everything.

Is there someone you love hissing stock to help them what's missing blessing.

This is too good but my heart is too weak to take this right now it's not true.

It is like these are message itself. It's right it is the gospel is so good in less you and lessers a part of you that says all that's too good to be true. Don't lie to me about that. They don't think he really heard the gospel and this is one of those stories where it's it's it's about a woman who when confronted with the possibility of being given her deepest greatest desire long and that she had for child her responses.
