Consider the lilies of the field.

They neither toil nor spin, but I tell you Solomon in all of his glory was not arrayed like them, consider the birds of the air is eyes on the sparrow, you can be sure that he watches you so you can consider these things and think about the beauty that in this moment the happiest people on earth. Learn to enjoy the moment that there in they don't delay their lives. They don't postpone life until they reach a certain new goal. They don't spend their time rehashing yesterday's regrets they learn to live in that moment and appreciate what's happening in that moment, while thinking of all these things this weekend. I Lord is brought to mind a beautiful image of a woman named Blanche in the first church that I served when I arrived at that church is a young man. She was an old woman and she was already in failing health, and she'd been through many difficult things her. She had loved ones who had died.

She didn't have much family in the area. She had very little money, and then she had to endure several significant surgeries, from which she didn't ever fully recover and she required ongoing assistance and was living in a skilled nursing facility and I would visit her whenever I could get a chance I'll tell you Blanche was happy anything.

How can you be happy in those organs and she is happy as you are legitimately authentically happy and I would go visit Blanche and she'd say things like, well there. How are you Blanche you know as a pastor were trained to were trying to get you talk about your problems and put my most sad face on how how how how you feeling this week Blanche and she said oh well, I got aches and pains, but she said you know could be worse I take it one day she was so much happier than I was and I will and I almost blurted out several what could be worse. Blanche just tell me somebody has got worse but I never forget you have these little moments with the Holy Spirit to speak to something you never forget the rest your life and I just remember this moment.

She had a little small square box in the window in that skilled nursing facility that was not a nice one and we were talking and she looked up to the window and she said, look at that squirrel in that one little tree in small tree outside her window and sometimes the squirrels are coming get in the tree and she said Lynette cute little thing she said I just love watching the squirrels play around and entry Blanche Carver was more happy in that moment want to squirrel maturity than half the people I've seen in this prosperous world that have everything going for some.

I learned to live in a moment see the moment.

Understand that moment has value. Those people are happy we got the gift of the gospel sets us free from worry about tomorrow and regret about yesterday and were invited into this moment which is the only moment we have.

The second thing that modern science is suggesting to people about how to be happy and I'm absolutely for this one also but we got this one from antiquity is the importance of letting go of negative feelings and becoming resilient enough that you can come back to a healthy state of mind or positive state of mind after you endured stressful things and the psychologist work on this resilience on the problem they say with our immune systems and so much what's happening to us and our health and our bodies is that we have this complicated endocrine system and all these hormones and stress hormones that we really need, because if you are getting chased by a bear. You need to be at your fastest and you need your heart rate to go up and anything to happen in your body and God made a really elaborate system where this could happen, but what happens when were under stress and perceived stress and our thought life is always about the stress is like one researcher said where like people on alert to have seen a wolf, but there is no wolf and I supposed to live life as if there's a wolf all the time and the more that we think like that to the wolf. There's a wolf is a wolf.

Everything is negative everything is difficult everything is bad everything stressful. The more that you think like that what science is revealing is the more that you think like that the brain adapts to it and I know were still just learning a lot about this, but it's very curious to me that I guess the brands like some kind of nearer neural superhighway and connections are made and you actually can become better at negative thinking. I mean you just get wired that way.

But what they've learned is that if you start practicing some more positive ways of thinking and you start becoming more grateful person. For example, you start seeing things more positively that it likewise can change your brain is a very helpful thing is that you can actually have your brain change in that sense.

And so there are some people who whose brains are very mind can experience a stressful event and return more quickly to normal or positive feelings where someone else. It's like you get stuck there and it just keeps going and and signs a look of ways to try to change that of actually rerouting your brain's wiring glistened 11 this is wonderful news to science, but it's something that we've already known because Paul told us that need that you can be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I come to see it more more literally, the more I walk with God. The more I study the his word. I just it's more more literal to me make this a God spoke these things and put them through the pins of people that lived in their day with very limited scientific knowledge, and yet we see so much of this is as God is literally showing us incredible truths is what we have in the gospel is the mystery of forgiveness.

We have the capacity to forgive others and forgive ourselves. If you can't forgive others, and forgive yourselves you don't have a supernatural aid in doing so, then your mind's gonna get locked into negative thinking and all the old wounds because were going to experience hard things in this world and all the struggles and strains in all the old wounds in our lives. They're going to stay in our minds except when you're in Christ. You can forgive because he's forgiven you. You can forgive yourself and the people that learn to do this and have this mystery that Hebrews says is letting no Bitterroot spring up.

It defiles many, including yourself, the people to discover this capacity to let go and live with God's grace. These are happy people is what science is showing to be a couple of things that science is is is learning and suggesting the people of try to teach them good people really confused about, and this was in important one.

People tend to think that spending money on physical possessions will make them happy and finally modern sciences. Talon does not develop the studies on this. Now if you're poor and you have very very little, then that's difficult.

It'll take away from your happiness, but what we learn is being rich that make you happy. In fact, there's a certain level income not that high. Just a good standard of living that once you reach that there's no measurable increase in happiness. According to the study and I'm not not not saying 00. Therefore, don't make might make a lot of money and give you a lot more teaching series like something is holding you back if you can important see that could change everything. Is there someone you've seen stack. What's missing blessing on the base and spoken over you can learn how to embrace the practice of blessing to Pastor Ehrenreich's new book, which quickly became an Amazon number one bestseller after 370s until now the hardcover book has only been available through retail sales this month right ministries once send you the I thank you for your demo send this not only receive something that also receive a free session video place in which Pastor Alan teaches how to blast and covers contact video course includes a detailed study guide perfect for personal growth or small group discussion. Pastor, our.work.

Today's teaching now continues once again is what I'm saying but please don't think that no having more so that you can buy more to make you happy. There absolutely is not but you know it's interesting to sidetrack whether studies show that the kind of money when you spend it does make you actually happier is on experiences really honestly hear your better off instead of buying another shiny pair of shoes or whatever your better off to spend it on a nice meal with friends or maybe a trip that you don't want to take because you you remember these things.

It's about relationships in the and those things actually do.

Jesus said why do you lay up treasures on over moth and rust destroy is laying down some heavy law and this is the wisdom of God speaking to you that I don't want to be you want to have a joyful and inducible people are spending on what doesn't bring happiness and a total parable of the rich man to build additional storehouses so that is man's had been so successful that they will tear down the car storehouses build better once I fill my will ordering in the parable, the man's life is required on that very very nice. I will discover this assignment.

We known this for versus timelessness of God's word for something else. Sciences learning we known forever. Is that meaningful connection any real relationships and friendships help make you happy. If you don't have three or more friends the chance to be unhappy, very slim. According to the studies people have five friends 50% more likely to describe themselves as very happy. She also is that basically people go to church or happier that stat came in. What they found.

Even that is that is not just people will always thereby goes through dictator. Happy but the people go to church and have a close relationship with the church reporting happier.

So in other words, what science is finding is that if you go to church envelops a few good friends within your church. You can be by far happier person. Thank you. Modern science, but we've already known that we understand where the body of Christ, and we have something more than just all we don't go to church and we did have something in common because all you go to row church, but we have something mystical and powerful and wonderful and rich have the very Holy Spirit living triune God living inside of each lever so that the same spirit in me, then you and so the way that I express God's presence in the way that I interact with God might not be exactly same way you do. We have the same Jesus and he is our head and we are so integrated with one another that we are actually called the body of Christ on earth. We are inseparable. We are mystically united were more than friends. Waconia we are the body of Christ, and it causes us joy here something that may be the most important of all the sciences learning that we've known forever. Gratitude produces happiness.

They thankful people keep a gratitude journal.

25% happier than those who don't notice the good things. Remember good things are far happier now. How you look on your life and how you remember things in a way that you shake your gratitude around it is what shape your happiness is something I saw from God's word long, long ago that the way that you remember yesterday's and determine how you live tomorrow I listen every single person goes through hardships and trials and difficulties in this world is not by this immune from that. But God is been at every point in your life doing good things not say what happens to the mind that illumined by the word of God to the spirit that is connected to the Holy Spirit and what you do is you begin to see God in places we didn't see them before and you practice what was given to the people of Israel of the Passover. Remember this day and commemorated teacher to your children and what you doing and families is when you have good things it blessing from the Lord celebrate the blessings talk about the blessings and how wonderful is not wonderful God is and wasn't that wonderful time now, eight years ago we had this blissful wonderful sabbatical and we took a trip out West is one of the best things we ever did we just went out all national parks and it was that the 11 minute was 15 and was at the right time of life and the Lord looked after us in and we made it back safely and we have all these memories and we talked. We tell stories.

We talk about it all the time. We just that we went to see IMAX the other day and that there was a story of big about all the national parks and will ago we been there on the great we just relive the stories and what happens when you do that you're just so grateful for all you got the answer anything about it is that I don't go back and remember the difficult things in the trip like every couple days loading up every suitcase and try to get a family for all packed up into the van again to go somewhere else in which they about two nights and then we move on somewhere else I'll remember that I remember I have to think hard to go back and remember that did have a few days. My back was bothering me and I don't remember some of the difficult challenges. We had along the way.

I had almost forgotten until I force myself to think about it how I had to take a detour from our plans and get to car shop because I was just sure that I had burned out the brakes, down a big deal out of Yosemite and I was worried about. I don't think about all the things I dislike about how to think about all the joy and as they value.

See the way you remember your life. You gotta remember God spending your life is been so good to you and every good thing that is done now is interesting also reported gratitude is not sitting around comparing yourself to other people and what they have or what they've done. Thankful for what God is done in your life. No one study, researchers asked less happy happy people the people didn't rank very high on happiness. Get answers at Wahoo that they compare themselves with, and the researcher said they went on and on about how they compare themselves with. But the researcher said that the happy people that the interview I asked him who you with whom you compare yourself said, quote happy people didn't know what we are talking about. I said happy people compare themselves a buyout. We've had this since the time the 10 Commandments were given. Thou shalt not covet. Grateful people don't covet because are so grateful that God is done when he's done for Ray Brown the secular researchers use a set I made a commitment to never talk about joy for the rest of my career without talking about gratitude because in 12 years of research I've never interviewed a single person with a capacity really experience joy is not also actively practice gratitude I meant. I'm in a hurry now going to say one more thing that is sciences in that produces happiness giving is my favorite study. One study showed two-year-old Elizabeth is two euros were happier giving away goldfish crackers from their own staff rather than someone else's pile.

You will teach your children to be happy decently give when this come back to this tax survives a joyful heart is good medicine is a good cure good healing a joyful heart a good part of your health program and it said in the midst of this otherwise confusing and intriguing context of the father whose joy or sorrow is linked to the folly or the wisdom of his son.

Joyful hearts found in a wise son, a crushed spirit and a foolish son by implication it is to say if you want to find a perfectly happy father.

You have to find one who had a perfectly wise son and there's only been one perfectly wise son Jesus of Nazareth. He never had a moment in which he said no to his father's wisdom in the father. One never had a moment we went off in folly and is perfectly wise son.

Jesus told a story about a man who had two sons and one of his sons went off an abject folly and squandered his inheritance in a faraway land, but when the sun came back and came out of his foolishness and became wise again. He returned to his father. The father didn't shame them, but the father ran to him and fell upon him with affection and wept upon his neck and through a huge party a big celebration and you know the father was doing sure why it was so big it is foolish son to become wise in this father was treating this sign as if he never been foolish, but he treated them as perfectly wise son and had this wonderful celebration and end Jesus was saying this is what God is like. And this is what the kingdom of God is like God saw there was no wise human assignment. So he sent his only begotten son to come and live and be perfectly wise son. And so the father's heart is spilling over with perfect joy and delight in his wise son.

And when you come into the kingdom of God. You come into Christ when you come into Christ. You have been reckoned to be the righteousness of Jesus, you understand what this means to me that God the father doesn't look upon you as the son of folly, but the son of wisdom in his heart is made.

Glad it means he loves you he teaches you the correct shoe but he delights in you and God's heart is happy that he set up his own son. This is my son in whom I am well pleased. He says I love you in Jesus Christ. This means, therefore, beloved is when Jesus said to his disciples my joy I give unto you, not as the world gives unto you, he's not saying I'll give you a joy that is like my joy, saying I'll give you my joy. You in Christ are given the gift of the Holy Spirit who has joy and it is the father's own joy was a father who is ultimately perfectly delighted in the wisdom of his son Jesus Christ and you and I are called up into that grand joy will I'm glad that modern science is got around to finding it out.
