Pastor Greg Laurie describes the theme of this message as “what happens when we don't follow the warning?” He takes us into Adam and Eve's story, where we get important takeaways on mankind's shortcomings.

Notes:

Genesis 4

The theme of this message is, “What happens when we don't follow the warning?”

Genesis 3:6

Every temptation in life fits into three categories.

1 John 2:15–16

The Lust of the Flesh: Things that feel good.

Genesis 3:6

The Lust of the Eyes: Things that look good.

Genesis 3:6

The Pride of Life: Things that make you feel and look good.

Genesis 3:6

The pride of life is an obsession with self.

The world with its allure is the eternal foe.

The flesh with its evil desires is the internal foe.

Satan with his enticements is the infernal foe.

Mark 2:21

God called out, “Where are you?”

Genesis 3:10–13

Adam blamed God for what he himself had done.

Genesis 3:12

We play a role in our own temptation and sin.

Jeremiah 17:9

Because of Adam’s sin, we all suffer.

Romans 5:12

Read: Genesis 4:1–7

The book of Genesis can be divided into three sections: Chapters 1–2: Generation, Chapters 3–11: Degeneration, and Chapters 12–50: Regeneration.

Mankind wrecks everything he touches!

Being exposed to truth does not guarantee you follow it.

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart!

Hebrews 11:4

God wanted confession because that is the way to forgiveness!

God gave Cain a warning.

The Devil is always looking for trouble.

Job 1:7

Ephesians 4:26–27

Sin is crouching at our doors, too!

Shakespeare called envy the “green-eyed monster.”

Jealously and envy are powerful and destructive sins we often underestimate.

Envy has been described as a small-town sin that breeds in proximity.

“The wicked envy and hate; it is their way of admiring.” —Victor Hugo

Genesis 3:14–15

The Bible tells us Jesus was, “slain from the foundation of the world.”
