Rocket mortgage can help you get there almost solutions that fit your life well rocket candidate Zach Gelb show coast-to-coast on CBS sports radio were dead and set for a huge weekend in college football. One of the featured matchups coming up at 3:30 PM Eastern is undefeated, 13 throwing TCU hosting Oklahoma State is ranked at number eight and also undefeated at five no without joining us is the first year head coach at TCU has been on the game for a long time and that is coach Sonny Dykes coach appreciate the time graduates of a good start that you been been well thank you appreciate God reporting good and atop a rock. A good start. So this being your first year as the head football coach at TCU when a new coach comes in. You never know how the transitions go to go. Obviously you expect to whatever gambit is it surprising that so far. You guys are off to the spinal start yet little bit.

There's always a learning curve to take place when you take over programming. The fourth time… And in your first year usually talk just trying to get players to buy into what you're what you're trying to teach. Sometimes you know there's reason normal jobs are open. And sometimes you know there's a little bit of a lack of talent or whatever the case may be, in it takes a while to get your get the kind of players you need into the program and that sometimes it takes a while to get the guts to bond the culture and we were very fortunate to have an opportunity to come to see you where you know there were good players and Brian has just been real pleasant surprise.

I think since day one, or players have done exactly what we asked him to do. They wanted to win. This is Unigroup they really like playing football really like practice and you know we haven't had very many bad practices can only think of one, really, since we been here even going back to spring practice and so it's an eager group and and they want to do what it takes to be good and so it's been it's been fun so far.

Early in the season and a lot of a lot of games still play but but we collected our… Good job up to this point.

It's like dealing with 18 to 21, 22-year-olds, you know, not only do you have to trust your players, but they have to trust you and that's not something that you could teach it just has to be done by example.

So you guys have done last three weeks. If anyone was doubting you kind of put those doubts what you get your credit or players you know that we have a great strength and conditioning staff that you know led by Costas audio links, one about strength and conditioning coaches in all college football and he's done a fantastic job of building a culture. You know that started in the weight room occurred over the practice field during spring practice really carried over summer workouts as well and then once restarted fall camp got a couple weeks and we thought we might have a chance have a pretty good team and we could stay healthy and some of the pieces to come together and it was unfortunate that that has so far everyone is important, but the last three weeks to take down your old school lesson, you and then you go up and play Oklahoma and Kansas and take care of both of them. You kind of put that three week stretch into perspective, the best thing about it is our guys got better every week. You know we got off to a fast start again system you and and didn't finish a game like 12 and had a hold on.

We had a pretty good performance against Oklahoma really from start to finish selector guys focus better but we made a bunch of mistakes in that game and felt like we played a much cleaner game last week against Kansas against a very good football team on the road and that was the first time that we had been that we trailed in the game really going back to the Colorado game the first half and you know it's it's hard to do that on the road. Call kids had a bunch of momentum that we were cut on her heels a little bit in our guys did a great job of answering and continuing to do their job and and not get on an emotional roller coaster and it would be good Kansas team last week.

So I think we passed that test and now it's on to the sea and how we can know the deal with with success because sometimes success is hard to deal with adversity and liquor guys have done a good job of doing that. We had two great days of practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. So far this week and guys had a really good Sunday coming off of that tough Saturday game on the road and like what a good spot with your quarterback and is been around for a while. He was assaulted again the year then send the more Senate injury. But what is Max Duggan really showed a lot of toughness and leadership unease is one of those guys that makes everybody on our team better. Everybody believes in Max and everybody knows is completely committed to them in the team and to see football is just one of those guys that everybody knows would do anything to win and I think it rubs off on everybody else and gives our our team some toughness and some mention is really played well is make good decisions is taking care of the ball every single week he gets better and better in place with more confidence and gets a better understanding of our scheme and how to get the ball to our playmakers and indications really start to come into his own TCI cuts. I got your thoughts on this act yelled so how is that dynamic been with you Chandler Morris and then Max Duggan well you look great. I think they just want to win. You know not when we named Sheila the starter in the fall camp. You know Max came in and I just okay what you're going to get an opportunity at some point. Just be prepared for it and you know I guess I look, I'm disappointed, but I'm going to hang in there and and he did exactly that and he had his opportunity and served Chandler feels the same way, you know, I know that the chandlers dying to play and once you get out there and and help his team win football games. But he's a team first time he just isn't so. That room is a great room to be around. We got a lot of selfless people in the room and when you get to coach the people Matt makes it fun used on wide receiver Quinton Johnson. We also begin that he just had last week 14 reception so hundred and 6 yards.

The game-winning score on the game-winning touchdown. I was pretty impressive in the moment when you sought in film to just even raise it up a notch. Yeah going to tell the guy you were lucky to have a big athletics that they really explosive wide receiver Connie got an unusual blend of really, really good size and and quickness and explosiveness and so it's it's it's a great combination. You start to come into his own starting to play with, with more confidence and again Max Max equipment start get on the same page so excited to see the work of those guys are going to put out the field and and you know that think they are getting more comfortable with each other. Each and every day I was reading a mock draft early this morning to see how much of a loser I am because when I think close to the draft. But how do you think is gamble transition to the next level because right now he was that the first wide receiver off the board not to be a great pro really do think he's got work ethic got the personality he really is a very unique guy loves football loves being part of a team very unselfish like us earlier just really really talented so is that football still in front of him. Think you can end up being a great pro really do Sonny Dyke Sarah Dawson Spencer Sanders. I have a lot of respect to the Oakland state quarterback is looking like a guy that could be in New York as a Heisman Trophy finalists yes have a tough task this weekend to be active again Patty try to slow down the quarterback you winter me is a great player, great arm, very, very good runner.

You know he is run physical runs hard and really does a nice job of anticipating throws and throwing a ball to spot can tell that he's played a lot of football and is a city really trusses wide receivers to go to the football make plays. So is a great quarterback shortly think the best quarterback we played again. So far this season and one of the most productive quarterbacks in a long time in the big 12 and you know he just knows how to win football games and take care the ball in Oklahoma State is a great job of their offense, they always are very balanced. They run the ball if they they take shots down the field.

They also have a really nice green game to control passing game of the control high percentage throws and complete passes and the chains of their kind of one of those teams is good. Everything else jumps off to the page that specifically dodges you know Mike on the always is a good team yeah yeah just toughness upfront about that often. The front I think is what stands out to me and you know the game is still one no one on the offense and defensive line every Saturday and you can see why Oklahoma State spin bowl eligible, think 16 consecutive years. Now it's good to do a great job recruiting and developing offense and defensive lineman and gives them a chance to win every game. The point talking to Sonny Dyke sent out two more questions to the TCI coaches. They get set for a big batch of this weekend top 50 matchup them up against Oklahoma State 3:30 PM Eastern on ABC. This is your fourth go-round as a head coach. What's different about this one for you coach what you learn something from all of them. You know, I think that you're really fortunate to be someplace where we have great great resources. I was able to hire an outstanding coaching staff and in bring in. Some guys have a ton of experience and understand you how to recruit tuxes have relationships in Texas. You have a lot of experience in that success coach and let part of its been really really good and you know we just have a ton of support from our administration really former chancellor took from right to for to our athletic director all the way throughout our administration. It's just been that's been a real pleasant situation work in know and I think that's that's what makes this thing so different to me there's been a real commitment to facilities. Here we have a beautiful stadium.

Our facilities are first rate. We really invested in an nutrition for student athletes and Gnostic which is made a big difference for us on the field you were about to build some brand-new facilities as well that they're going to be state-of-the-art so you know there's a very strong commitment from TCU and you were lucky to be in the big 12. It's a great league and has a lot of parity in.

I think you know I think anybody right now can win the league so it's it's a great place to be a lot of fun and were enjoying living in Fort Worth and could be better right now. I love that you bring up that the state of the conference because when Oklahoma and Texas announced that they were moving to the SEC, a lot of people thought that the big 12 was made to get a fade away or you have a lot of other schools leave as well, but this conference this year in football I can sustain Oklahoma State you guys the surprises of Kansas we saw Baylor did a year ago Joe McGuire's nice job with Texas DAC did you feel like maybe this summer the teams in the conference unit you are you coming in were a little bit disrespected out once I got that news in Oklahoma and Texas really got the league you know way back when it Texas Tech from 2000 2006, and so at a pretty good idea about the big 12 and the commitment from the from the schools in the league, and obviously had watched the object will football you and I was at SMU the last four years and so you know there's there's just really really good coaches in this league and he looked around and some of the best and brightest coaches in this league a mean look at the job. Obviously that Chris Leopold done it Kansas you look at what Matt Campbell is done that I will state you know you look at Kansas State. The kind of program that they have and then you look know you look as you said that the momentum it Texas Tech as you start looking around the league and there's a bunch of really really good football teams of people that are committed to winning at a very high level and they were adding some teams have tremendous potential as well. You know to from the American where I was before, and in Central Florida in Houston. In both of those teams can recruited an elite level of both are very good coaches and and are very dedicated when in Cincinnati forgot Cincinnati and Cincinnati obviously showed all college football last year what they were capable of getting to the end of the college football playoff so you think the league is to be really good.

BYU is obviously had a lot of success as well get to be some great additions and some some teams are starting to emerge within the league and so when you look at the 10 members right now and I think it's as competitive as a leak in college football like your team could be a college team this year because you said it. The conference is wide open and a team that wins this conference this year Miami losses they have, but you would think they'd be in the Constable plant this year. I got out early and I think we certainly have have an opportunity you not think that there's a bunch of teams to do. I think there's probably several teams feel like they got an opportunity because there is so much parity in the league in every single game you know the Saturdays are going to be good football games or go to probably come down to the end.

I think that you gotta gotta catch some breaks to have a chance to win the league of stay healthy and some key spots and there's a lot of things that you have to have a chance to do this for us to just about playing well guess Oklahoma State taken one game at a time and in honestly just try to get one when Saturday in and see where we are and then try to figure out how to win another one. The following Saturday.

Number 13 TCU going up against number eight Oklahoma State this Saturday 3:30 PM Eastern. He's that football coach at TCU horned frogs in Sonny Dyke's coach really do appreciate this time.
