The Principle of Priority

Welcome to worship and the word with Pastor Morse today. Pastor Robert is beginning a new series titled relationship where he explains how each of the 10 Commandments contain principles that will enrich our relationship with God, thank you so much for joining on your host Patrick and I'm here with my cohost Jenae hello everybody. Well Jenae. When I found out that we were going to be talking about this series. Next, I was really excited to meet him. You know it's really different than any other series I've ever heard on the 10 Commandments because instead of focusing on the things we can and cannot do. Pastor Robert really focuses on the relationship aspect of the 10 Commandments definitely and unique.

It truly makes the 10 Commandments really come alive. I no longer think of them as a list of rules posted in a courtroom wall or etched in stone and they have much bigger purpose in our everyday lives. Then I realized I absolutely well the first message of this relationship series is titled the principle of priority, and I can't wait for everyone to hear these insightful truths today so let's jump right in with Pastor iPhone to begin a new series called relationship through God's top 10 list.

Now I want you know that God is the first one to have a talk to of missed. I know a lot of people that I have talked to list God came out with the first one is better front with all of the 10 Commandments would follow the 10 Commandments because the Bible calls them the 10 Commandments in three different places you know once annexed this twice in Deuteronomy.

The TN Commandments so God calls them the 10 Commandments and so I began this past summer. My study break to just see the 10 Commandments in a different way than I've ever heard anyone teach or preach them and I think if we look at the 10 Commandments. I understand they are Commandments that are Commandments but I think if we would look at them this way and say what's the principal behind this commandment that's going to enhance my relationship with God and other people. I think we'll see some things we've never seen before. So I literally have a principal for all to you in a party going through them for several months now I have what one word principal for all TN and the first one I'm calling the principal of priority, so this is what I believe that the first commandment. Yes, I think it's teaching us the principal of priority. So in a new series yet, introduce the series and then, going the first point, so this I got three points but my first point is going to deal with, helping us understand the whole series and then I had to points of the department products on your surfboard number one. It's about relationship, but giving of the 10 Commandments is about relationship. You have to remember that God is a God of relationship he created Adam and Eve for relationship. He redeems the children of Israel for relationship.

He redeemed you for relationship and we start with the 10 Commandments he actually reminds the children of Israel that it's about relationship. I want to show you.

Okay, so if your extra chapter 20. Look at verse one Exodus chapter 20 verse one and by the way, the 10 Commandments are Nexus 20 in Deuteronomy 5 so if you want to read them in Deuteronomy there in chapter 5, Exodus 20 verse one and God spoke all these words say I am the Lord your God. I am your God. I am your God. We have a relationship that's where you start the 10 Commandments who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. And then he gives the first commandment. In verse three you shall have no other gods before me. Before he gives of the 10 Commandments.

Here's what he does. He reminds them. I balk back I redeemed you out of bondage and out of slavery so we can have a relationship. Now that's what he did for the house of Israel, but all of us know he did the exact same thing for us, he redeemed us out of slavery out of bondage underage of the Scripture Roman 66 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him that the body of CN might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin, so we were all slaves. We were slaves of sin.

God redeemed us out of slavery out of bondage to sin and then when we look back the 10 Commandments. Here's what we state we sleep, TN principles that will deepen our relationship with God. That's what I want to see if most people see these as a list of rules. Most people see these as as things to do and things not to do so. I don't want you to think about that anymore. It's not something to do or something not to be okay. God redeemed us for relationship okay but was you determine the depth of your relationship with God want to say that again because that's very more. That's the main burden of this point of the Lord gave me.

You determine the depth of your relationship got okay so we got Exodus 20 if you learn your Bibles you got one through 17. Starting verse three really verse 12. I'm the Lord your God redeemed you versus three through 17 those of the 10 Commandments. Watch what happens immediately after he gives the 10 Commandments in verse eight right excess waivers like the now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses you speak with us and we will hear but let not God speak with us last week. Die and Moses said to the people do not fear for God is come to test you are.

Prove you a father make you better and that his fear may be before you his honor may be before you so that you may not sin.

God is giving you some principles that help you get out of this bondage of sin. The dream is what he say watch verse 21 so the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was Moses determine that he wanted to have a deeper relationship with God and the people determine that they wanted to have a relationship with God through Moses.

What they said you speak to God and come tell us what he says when you think about that how similar is that too many churches today. Pastor you meet with God during the week you go up the mountain you hear God and then you come back and tell us on the weekend what God said, but were not going to meet with God personally. Here's the reason by the lector. They said last week.can I tell you something. Flash always dies in the presence of God. It's true you do die when he won his presence, but that's a great thing because Jesus they can live through you, the more you enter his presence among the you can reckon the old man dad and the new man can be raised to walk a new life in Christ Jesus. But they said we want to determine the depth of our relationship and we want you to have a personal relationship and we will have a relationship with God through you because of that is another Scripture to me that goes right along with this, Psalm 103 verse seven he made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the children of Israel do you see the difference money. One look at it again. He made known his way's his way's to Moses, his acts to the children of Israel by mistake.

This, like the children of Israel knew what he did.

Moses knew why he did Moses understood the ways of God. He didn't just see the acts of God, I want to know someone would be someone who knows his wife Phyllis. I know it. Do you want to have a relationship with God. Based on thou shalt not bow shalt not bow shall not ideal and have a relationship with God based on principles that allow you to go deeper with God.

It really made me think how often do I take on the responsibility of deepening my own relationship or do I just come to church and look for someone else to find insight in the word or bring me closer to God. So let's return to Pastor so here is point number two wound summing up the First Amendment worship God only worship God only. Now let's look at the First Amendment. Verse three you shall have no other gods. Then he clarifies it before me. Why did he clarify because they had just been in Egypt 430 years and Egypt had more God's than any other society or culture that is ever lived. They were polytheist. In other words poly from a Greek word meaning many. The estimating God they believed in many.they had 29. May God's and 2000 and lesser gods 29 Main got my right ear the names I decide to show you the names here. The 29 names of the main got there in alphabetical order, so if you look at ages they got one named happy but he didn't make you happy. They give you the ends they got one named non-nut so you know they got so here is what God was saying because the other people that came out of Egypt and he made the statement. You shall have no other gods know God's. And then he was saying. None none it off for instance this word before in the Hebrew over a thousand times no investment. It's nicely translated before few times we give you some other translations of one of them is science. You shall have no other gods beside me. You shall have no other gods in front of me. You shall have no other gods behind me. You shall have no other gods because of me. You shall have no other gods in my face in front of me in the side inside of me.

You shall have no other gods against me, there's another way translated.

You shall have no other gods listen other than me, and you have to take every Scripture and have it be congruent with the rest of Scripture. Isaiah 45 verse five I am the Lord, and there is no other words there is no other Lord, there is no God beside me are you following the phase I to clarify what he says you shall have no other gods before me. He's not saying you have some others as long as I'm first essay the body of the statement is. You shall have no other gods and safety just came out of a culture that has more gods than any other culture. I want you to know if you have no other gods at all. Beside me, other than because we have another God in your life.

It's not going to work, so he's giving us a principal for living that comes right out of school right right that's it that enhances our relationship with you where the bride of Christ. This principle of priority works in marriage as well.

Only think about this. Many of you know that Gemini had a difficult about first seven years of our marriage because of me because of my past and my sin. But when God really got a hold of my life and I decided you know what I want to be a good husband and a good father and a good Christian and I stepped out a ministry to get my life right with the Lord and right in my family. One day dear Mike, like time the Lord said to me, I want you to write your priorities. So I got out I wrote a base got a piece paper and I wrote number one God, the Lord said to me I think I direct that the city out, but I know what you're going to say because see God. I've actually taught this so I know about this. It's God, family, business delivered that God, family, business, God, family, God's will and one family then business. I know what you're saying is the number one God and words that I think I direct that so I threw the piece paper. I got another piece paper out number one. He said I think I direct that got ready and he said number one, figure essay that I remember one this what the Lord said Debbie and I said to him, Lord, that's not right.

You're supposed be number one. Here's what he said it's changed my life. He said son when you're married if you put your spouse's number one you are putting me number one because if you can't serve her. You can't serve me a never forgotten that there's a principle of priority. When you understand this principle. It will enhance your relationship with God and your relationship is welcome back to your listening to worship and the word was passed around. I love the story has to Robert just told the guys conversation with God about who is number one in his life mean wow that conversation definitely took a twist.

I was in chronic back, not expecting that either really eye-opening to see how much God wants us to love and serve because when we deal with petting him and not just first, but when we make him only God know what has to Robert said earlier about there being thousands of gods in Egypt was pretty crazy to mean that a lot of gods and I think our modern day doesn't really have anything as obvious as literal gods, but there are definitely things that compete for our time, our priority and our worship first year and today anything that we make. Priority becomes a guy like many popularity or even comfort to know that reminds me of the time I started exercising the mornings because I was trying to get the time I took to work out, began to compete with the time I spent with the Lord. I mean taking care of my body is a really good thing, but when it started to compete for my heart and his priority in my life I knew I needed to rearrange some things.

It's a great example Patrick. Let's return to business agent Pastor Robert goes into even more of what it means to put Figures .3. Another way to save principal brought priority is put God first. The first commandment the same.

Put me first for me in first place in your life. Above everything else. So what's really first place in your life. This principle runs all through Scripture when they went in the promised land. God said bring all of the silver and gold from Jericho into the house of God, why did he say that's really very very simple because Jericho was the first city. He said when your firstborn has an offspring, sacrifice it to me. Give me the firstborn why to say that he said the firstborn belongs to me. It's first. It's a principal first about this. He didn't say when your sheep has 10 lambs. You can wait and until you have TN and they give me one.

You can give me the one that you don't like to keep getting your garden. He said give me the first one before you have the other nine. He said when you have a harvest.

Give the firstfruits to me off the last rites don't pay all your bills first and see you have enough left over. Give me the firstfruits. This is a principle runs all through Scripture that says it only works when you put me first in Jesus comes and reiterates the same thing. Matthew six is what he says you know the verse seek first seek first the kingdom of God put God first in all these things will be added to you as a story in first Kings 17 were there was a famine in the land of drought and God… Is providing for Elijah beside a brook and city ravens to bring food in the morning and the evening and the brook dries up and he says notice Arafat there's a woman there a window that will provide for you and we pick up the store. There he goes, he asked for some water. Many asked her for some bread and then look what states that she says so she said, as the Lord God your godly as I do not have bread only a handful of flour in the BN and a little oil in a jar and see him getting a couple mistakes that I might go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it and die. All she had left and Elijah said to her, do not fear go and do as you have said, but watch what he says to this widow, a widow may be a small cake from yet what word first put God's kingdom first in your life. First, and bring it to me and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel this ban of flour shall not be used to nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day that the Lord sends rain only or so she went away and did according to the word of Elijah and she and he and her household ate for many days. The BN of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by like Alice in many, many people believe and think and God does dual purposes got to do be doing one thing and something else. So one.

The purpose was he sent Elijah there and said I have commanded a widow to provide for so yes, God sent him.

Elijah there for the little program but listen about this God sent Elijah. There to provide for the widow Lawson. She had one real left. She and her son were about to die… God sends a man of God and said is what he says do this first but got first watch what happens to your flour BN in your jar borrow watch what happens when you put God first in Gateway church. We have a stewardship ministry to try to help people with their finances were trying to help you a promise. That's the whole reason we started. It is to try to help you, because many people I know understanding of how to handle finances. My son is one of the searcher pastors James and James told me a couple years ago a widow came to him. She was tithing and she made a commitment to hard for the kingdom for five dollars a month so here she made a commitment five dollars a month, but because of debt that she had in some things she had two dollars a day for food and she said I want to do my finances God's way you want to put God's will put God first in my finances and so my son James begin work with her help. When Christmas came she said I have 12 grandchildren have always given the gift, but I know I don't have the finances to give a gift to my children, my grandchildren James told her the story about one Christmas when Debbie and I didn't have money to give our kids get and what God spoke to me was to give them spiritual gifts, and so I prayed over our children and imparted spiritual gifts to them. Here's the amazing thing there. All three using those gifts today. All through and it was actually possible stir because they were known to Christians going back to school. Ever the teacher added one more until the guess they got my kids told yes no yes got mad when homebuilder parents just got to get the leader Got prophecy by James told her that and so she gave all of her grandchildren. A spiritual gift, prayed about it and prophesied the whole family since one of the best Christmas is a member God begin to bless her and one day she gets a phone call she had done a reverse mortgage on her house the guy: solicit your house is worth more money than what it was when we started this by the contract.

We don't have to give you more but my boss told me to call you and tell you we want to give you more money and so she told James about it and James said let let me: check this out and make sure what's happening because this is very strange so I called the guy and said why you doing this. He said I don't know. My boss told.

He said he probably never will. And he said no, my boss, for some reason I love the words for some reason. For some reason, he pulled her file and he said her house is worth more.

I want to give her more money. She is a widow, and James checked it all out to make sure it's all aboveboard. They sent her check for tens of thousands of dollars it paid off all of her dad and put money in her savings and one check. God still takes your takes care of all of his kids. If you put it first. What an incredible testimony of God's goodness and blessing if we put him above all else in our lives and what we often think of as a commandment is really a principal for diving into it deeper, more beautiful relationship with God for everyone listening.
