Luke chapter 20 picking up in verse nine, the parable of the unjust tenets a whole lot of misunderstanding swirls around his parable, but let's try to open some eyes and encourage some folks in. Can you figure out what the Lord is trying to tell us to this this week than he being Jesus began to tell this parable of the people, a certain man planted a vineyard leased it to vine dressers and went into a far country for a long time now in vantage time he sent his servant to the vine dressers that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard of the vine dressers beat him and send him away empty-handed again he sent another serpent and they beat him also treated him shamefully and sent him away empty-handed and again he sent 1/3 and they wounded him also and cast them out, then they are owner of the vineyard said, what shall I do, I will send my beloved son, probably they will respect them when they see him. But when the vine dressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, this is the error come, let us kill him that the inheritance may be ours. So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed them. Therefore, what will the owner of the vineyard do to them.

He will come and destroy those vine dressers and give the vineyard to others and when they heard it, they said certainly not.

Then he looked at them and said, what then is that which is written, the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. Whoever falls on that stone will be broken, but on whomever it falls it will grind him to powder and the chief priests and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on them, but they fear the people, for they knew he had spoken this parable against them. While a lot in that a lot of that parable.

Robbie, can you take us into the first question here little time to get us teed up here on the context and with the first question is what prompted Jesus to tell this parable.

How does it further amplify the rejecting of his authority.

In the final days before the cross began context is key here because what is happening is Jesus Christ is come in these claims the temple to challenge authority. Last I would talk about what authority you. You do this by just flip it right back on them and he said the baptism of John. Was it from heaven was of her man.

He had them flummoxed. He had them trapped. They went to trap him all the greatest theologians in the world where the epicenter of the only theistic monotheistic nation Jerusalem the capital at holy week to hide a pass over thousands of pilgrims coming in to the city. 2 million+ people bombarding the city and hear the the crème de la crème of theologians high priest, chief priest leaders are challenging Jesus and out of this response to his authority. He tells this parable which really sets up the description of what Jesus Christ would do this is and be confused with the parable of the steward or the in of the parable there. But this is this one is very unique and it presents a real tragedy to present something that is really heartbreaking and ultimately they did not want God as their authority in the form of the son of God, Jesus Christ, celestial bodies, next questions how do we see God pretrade in this parable. Well, so we see God as the he's the owner which is the owner were all steward role managers right he is the landlord and we forget that sometimes only Robbie would walk around like these are my rights and I am in full ownership and we forget that we are simply the Yogi Berra he is the George Steinbrenner. He is the one in control. He owns everything and we see him as someone who's reasonable as graciously's benevolence give them a lot of time, yet they don't pay Wolseley send someone what they do.

They kill them or they they they beat him up basis.

Well they beat up worse, he sent his own son.

Or you could say it digresses. Let's keep going somehow to receive the nature of man pretrade in the parable.

Well, look at that. What a great question. We look at what what he gives them every chance to to to to work the land to live off the land to earn a land but then it says what what is this tell you, tell you not just about the Jews which you this is clearly about them directly, but really about all this. They have the fruit of the vineyard and they Jesus or God. Sins are the, the owner of the land.

The planter of the guy who leased it to the vine dressers.

He simply says a servant to give to glean some of fruit and this is my land.

I should get some of the fruit. A percentage very fair very equitable and they beat him and send him away and empty-handed, what they do. The next guy he sent. He says another guy they they beat him also treated him shamefully and sent him away in the empty-handed as though is there's not his.

What you doing here who these guys are sending so he sent 1/3 person and they wounded him, which is in the world wounded stronger word for it like near near near death near fatal, and they cast him out so goodness. It tells us Robbie. There's a hard hardness in all of us. We like temperature, we like to put it on Hitler would like to put on the bad people out there right you see these evil people and scroll to Facebook.

I think I just come up and just Kolkata fella and I'm so mad at guy but what is it about all of us as his rebellious nature against God. We don't want anyone telling us what to do, even as believers like you said you just keep perceiving that is you versus the world.

Yet in this question right here opens up a whole another understanding of this going back farther thousands years. Sure what caused Israel's deplorable treatment of the prophets, servants and beloved son you over and over again Jesus said you Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who killed the prophets will the prophets were sent to declare God's word to the people here God dispatches and Elijah a Jeremiah and Ezekiel, Daniel a Joel, Amos even dispatches a Habakkuk. I mean come on I have actually got a granted name to back at what a great name but think about what God does to send his word to man how much he loves us. He cares and what did they do they kill him.

And Jesus confronted the religious leaders hear the same guys that spilled the blood of these honorable godly men who simply did their duty, and yet you wanted their blood because he told the truth and so this is a this this parable is really a picture of what they did profit after profit God would send and his people instead of receiving it, repenting, and in some cases they did. In some cases there were godly things like a Josiah, you know, godly kings who said you know what I'm there to repent working reform return back to God, but by and large they actually rejected and even in many cases killed brutally killed the prophets and and then God sends his son. This is where you get this this question here so insignificant about Jesus being the cornerstone, yes. So here we have the vine dressers saw him, the owner of the vineyard says what shall I do, I will send my beloved son. Great statement, beloved son, God's only begotten son, God said of Jesus on multiple times. This is my beloved son about Transfiguration at the baths of Christ hear him just listen to him. He is the word of God to you. Probably they will respect him back to verse 13, when they see him but with finders or saw him. Verse 14.

They reasoned among themselves thing.

Hey, this is the air, the skill him that the inheritance may be our take some explaining their and in that day. Much like in our day-to-day. There is this law, there's no living air to the land to the inheritance for all he knew the owner was that in his son was the last living person coming to claim his is father's stake his father's land is in a is inheritance. Because the common court they been the ones working at they been the ones paying taxes on it may be, but they been the ones in care of this land so they get to keep it.

And there's that there's laws like that America today.

Like if you if you eat others right away laws know things like if you have land that someone else's but you work the land you protect that man you take care that land over. Time.

This delimitation runs out and you can claim that land and maybe they were plebeian or hoping to do that. So when the sun comes like let's kill the word and do it.

So what a great you know picture of what happens is they cast him out of the vineyard and they killed therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them. He will come and destroy those vine dressers and give the vineyard to others for what is to a strong language and when they heard it, they said certainly not those that the Pharisees and all those in a Jesus hearing and he looked at them and said, what then is that is written, the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. While cornerstone was his massive tonnage of stone was used to grind wheat, corn, other things but also a that's a millstone cornerstone language is the building block of a building you find the cornerstone you know that buildings either the bullies good or bad based on the cornerstone. While this son is the chief cornerstone, and the stone was a builders rejected Jesus Christ cornerstone and result is a great song of Christ alone. Cornerstone and is a fulfillment of Psalm 118, which also says this is the day the Lord is made, which they said by the way, blesses you comes the Lord some weight. Now the other part of that. Do we, in our own lives right which we reject the cornerstone at which you know what we think that we know how to do something or we think we need to be in authority or we think in and instead of just simply go back to Don's same who is in no cornerstone because we don't get ground that would span well I don't get ground.
