Really looking at you, wanting to see that that you know team that we had put together last year with Anthony Davis and Lebron and Russell Westbrook have an opportunity to actually play together and also Kendrick nine who was out the whole year. Last year, so allowing them to have an opportunity to really see what it looks like I think they only played 11 games where they were all healthy. You know, but that the big change this year is we have a new coach like Arvin Hamm who I think really brings a lot of authority, a lot of experience because he was a player in the NBA wanted championship with the Detroit Pistons.

He's been an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks when they won their championship and he's ready to be head-coaching and he's he has that presence that we we really need is the first coach you card that has a Sports Illustrated cover for broken blackboard that he broke in college on his wall does come with life's history in the game collegially and professionally. What what sold you want him though we know he didn't have that in his resume about that did not. So that's it for now. He he just he really there was something about him you know our basketball front office really did a deep dive and really look through a lot of candidates in and he just brought. He checked every boxing such a cliché, but he really has you know the experience as a former player and as an assistant, and he was also an assistant under Mike Dan Tony for the Lakers. So when he walked in my office he he he said you know I feel like I'm home. I feel like this is where I'm supposed to be and you know what I liked was finding out that his mother was the first mayor of Saginaw, Michigan, female mayor of Saginaw, Michigan, and so I just I feel like he he respects a woman in authority. Interesting. And that's an important clearly important box if you will to check when you are hiring a coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and clearly you know more than most in this business about the importance of star quality in this town as well and Lebron was he involved it all in choosing Darvin him or did you check with him now is cool with it or anything like that I mean that you know he's he's also he's a very important voice in our organization, but he wasn't part of the committee that that did that know the vetting of of the candidates in and ultimately choosing okay but clearly he's gotta be. We went. Now I say to Lebron I want to make sure you're happy. I want you to be happy because when you play happy that makes me happy well respond. He gets a big smile on his face from that he is in fact happy. You know he's he's, you know, we'll see how things go this year that will see the smile on his face so he he he does talk about being happy here at the Lakers he signed an extension so I feel like he believes in the organization.

He loves that that fan base and he loves the fact that he wanted championship here in and let's do it again Jeannie Bussey are all on the rich doesn't show talking about the Lakers on the New York hospital of a new playing season is obviously very crucial with Russell Westbrook still here what it how you envision his role with this team got so much discussed about whether he fit last year in the coach and he might not have fit what Darvin Hamm is going to plan for and whether he's buying with the new coach is selling what your perspective on the you know I have faith and confidence in Darvin him you know it's really up to the coach to figure out how to to put the bass line up out there that gives us the best opportunity to win and I think Darvin will do that and then Ross is another suspended heat wraps it is you know, extremely hard-working, shows up in shape. You know is coming. He's been great to work with. From my point of view. So I you know I'll I would like to see him be put in a position for him to be successful in the entire team to be successful blogging. I saw the video of him. The day that he got his money right that it was something in the front seat of his car. He was big smile on his face and then just the question is does he. If you could if you place a complementary role is to work here in Los Angeles. I believe that Ross wants to win and whatever it takes for him to win. He will and then Anthony Davis and the ideas that he's going to be the guy here in Los Angeles for very long time to take it to another arrow. Once Lebron does in fact age out for the lack of a better phrase and who knows when that might actually be viable, but do you view it that way, you know, Anthony has you know, he led us to a championship piece. He's amazingly talented. We just need to make sure that he stays healthy and how does one do that. Just make sure that he stays healthy and listens to you know his his workout coaches doctors everything so to make sure that he's in tip top shape and how you delegate because I mean, I can only imagine you must be a control freak, I just know most incredibly successful people I've met are just, you know understand the importance of delegating, but also want to make sure that everything is buttoned up to your satisfaction.

I think that comes with communication with your staff and understanding what expectations are and making sure that you provide the resources that people need in order to be successful and you know staying on the same page. Constant communication and you know I have no vision of what I want to accomplish and you know we gotta make sure that everyone's on the same page because if you have people that are not working towards that same vision, you'll never be successful. I think that people feel like oh you know what crutches does she need or what does she lean on because she's not capable of doing it herself so you know I have great people that work with that I work with, you know people seem most interested in Linda Rambis who I've been working with for over 30 years, you know, I operated in the same style since I started working you know with the organization and even before that, with the Great Western forum putting on events and you know I feel I'm a leader I'm not a dictator.

I like to build consensus. I like to hear from you know everybody at the table and then ultimately it's your people need to understand. I'm the governor of the team and I'm held accountable for every decision that's made both business and basketball, so if anything goes wrong it's on my watch and I'm held accountable for it while I mean I do feel compelled to say that you know I have much respect for you right on the like on an Internet but let me ask you like to have you ever asked any man that was honestly Jerry Jones was an owner of another jewel of the sport has a lot of questions posed of him as to his inner circle is and whether they're qualified in order to do it because it's his family, you know, to me, but I like you know like you have a regular general manager is always posed of Jerry Jones and if I had called Steinbrenner if he was kind enough to do what you're doing, which is up your on this program I would say to you talk into the mix round judge gets on, but that might just be music as I think… As part of the questions. Jackson I know what an NBA coach goes through and how it feels like you are put out on the plank to stand out there alone and I wanted to make sure that that the new coach that we hired knew that there would be the support that there would be this long term opportunity to build success and that it wouldn't be about, you know who's on the hot seat next this was gone and it just happened, I don't know why they come out.

I do believe that we might have an internal leak, but it just it it. Your opening night is the ring ceremony and those are the most memorable of course. And you know oftentimes you don't actually end up winning that game just because they're such, there such a height to it in and you know the players get excited to see their rings for the first time I thought it was interesting.

I just read that that Colorado Avalanche gave their rings to the players in the private ceremony as opposed to on the ice and that's probably said he wouldn't get distracted looking at their new rings and and focus on the ice was so what does look like a mouse, and you know all about presentation to see the presentation of the open the boxes and the end was a video of the moment. I was a screen on the top blogs and wikis set.

It was it was it was a heck of a video of overrunning, so I guess your memories of of an opening night where you get your rings that yeah yeah you mean the commissioner comes to town so I think probably that the most special ones were when she Kern was still with us and he would he would be on the court as the master of ceremonies announcing everybody was really special bus a few more minutes left with the controlling owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers Jimmy opinion on the midseason tournament you have anything but what are your two cents on that subject.

I would to be honest with you I really wasn't a fan of the play in tournament. Now I really get why it's important and I think it's added that element of the fund at the end of the season.

There are no Mike. My only issue with the plan tournament is that doesn't go on the record book anywhere right it's not technically a regular-season game. It's not technically play playoff game is sort of like the records get caught in some netherworld budget bombing.

Obviously, if that's a problem you can be dealt with but I had never thought about that. So I just melted from its own record book I guess is a plan tournament record or something along those lines, but not I don't mind kind of like that you got a plan and make sure the teams that might be out of it, normally or still in it right on meanwhile yeah yeah I mean everyone's anticipating that we have a big draft coming up and that is kind of the like kind of you know interested in being in the lottery so you know we'll see what effect that has on the season and you know instead of it being like a let's hurry up and get the plan as it you know the plants really start at the end of the regular-season people can move up and and depending on you know if you have an injury early on he may be in the hall in your better team then what your record says now you get your player back and you get that momentum you know what you can you can still make the playoffs out of you as an owner of the team.

That is all about hanging banners and spending money to hang banners and making sure that Fannie's receipts to hang banners of your thoughts on teams that might be tanking when you think about we don't sense on that. That was never anything that that that's not Laker basketball to take my dad never did that.

You know it's it's I learned from Phil Jackson that every season when you start, there's a journey that you can you know you can plot out a path to a championship some years it may be straightforward some years. It may be like climbing Mount Everest, but there's always a path to winning.

And so you you just have to figure out how you're going to do it and get the team to commit to the same journal. But when you're in a meeting, the board of governors meeting, which is with the governors do you take a hard line on the side because I you know, having been with Phil for you know almost 20 years losing takes a toll. And when somebody loses on purpose and any when you're coach of a team and you don't have a choice in the matter. You know you got aware that losing for the rest your life that becomes part of your permanent record.

Same for a player that may get drafted to a team and I don't think that's fair for you know somebody it's beyond their control.

If a team is purposely trying to lose and you know it's something that they're going have to carry around on their resume. The rest of their lives.
