Actor Justin Hartley joins Rich in-studio and reveals how his new avila alcohol company came about because of case of mistaken identity, why he misses ‘This Is Us’ already, and says how his ‘Price Is Right’ experience compares to TJ’s failed Showcase Showdown.

Rich explains why MLB should adopt its home run derby tie-break All-Star Game policy for regular season extra-innings games instead of the current “ghost runner” on 2nd base rule.

I got the check marks are today. Yes sir lunch today peacefully latter Falcons welcome to the national football rookie for the Baltimore Ravens from Carl Hamilton pickle ball champion. He's going to EEP shown up for Los Angeles sharks just down the road races down welcome Los Angeles charges rookies same for Dolphins rookies New England rookies Nobody thought that the brain is Hall of Fame member string New Orleans Saints rookies Jensen giant street from each other. It's cut down like a shark suggests East Rutherford, Florham Park on Thursday to go. That's the signal 10 is 32 teams, one third almost 1/3 of this yearly open for business training camps. That's the signal of professional football as began except that professional football can back a couple days earlier, when the SEC held its immediate week opener professional football attention to those books, teachers, and dirty looks were school teachers. No more books to me looking at you dirty teacher. It's different ranges of old pension more teachers know what time it starts it was present in seven passive failing classes in curriculum now now professional football has arrived at the collegiate level folks it's it's by the way, it was one year ago. Earlier this month, right, it's not one year in 19 days old and I always July 1, 2021 beverages like college football's change Mike okay let's see how it plays out different. All you totally different landscape. Now folks, and the organization and I you on the Big Ten guy through and through. The South Eastern conference. That's really the that's the leader that is the one that has Alabama and Georgia with unit that is the spot that fired the shot across the big 12 bowel. The ones that got Oklahoma and Texas to come in and out Big Ten country is come to Los Angeles, California, USC and UCLA part of the Big Ten.

Rumor has it Big Ten was looking at USC and Notre Dame Notre Dame is just a plain coy on what their dampeners are going to join their way to see how it all plays out there join in the it is what ever finally comes to fruition for a college football playoff and Greg Sankey the commission of the SEC was leaving that conversation last year when he was saved 16 teams a champions of conferences and then a at-large and that's when the pack 12 in the ACC in the Big Ten got together and form an alliance my lungs that's that's much of an alliance anymore as it and and Sankey skyline. Well, you know I'm extended my hand all y'all outside of the SEC now as he said in his media day conversation now is saying to the drawing board. I guess in the account football playoff idea, not not not into the at-large concept anymore.

We think it should just be that the best teams that at-large best teams with what how about a super league with the SEC and a super league with the Big Ten. Now you can end up having what 32 teams out of that.

Is there another Chris just amassed his or another professional football outlet and an organization that plays football and pays its players that has 32 teams within oh can think I'm racking my brain so all that is now the backdrop all of that now the backdrop for what happens next.

While we know it's a 2022.6 that's what happens next, and Greg Sankey said this week is asked if the SEC were of super league going. He said were already super league. He said the words, now what well now it's your from Nick Sabin since he is the modern-day bear Bryant or he's now the all time great. Maybe in the history of this sport at this level way back in the day when there was no such thing as a name, image and likeness. And as you know, the last time we heard Nick Sabin on the subject of name, image and likeness. As with any local conversation that got picked up nationally because he said Texas A&M. It essentially paid its players to create the number one recruiting class this year and that set off a whole who ha between him and Jimbo Fisher, not people thought this is Nick basically saying to the people in the business folk in front of him, a step up step it up as a forgot number one in IL we might not be number one in recruiting and then suddenly we may not be number one in the AP in the coaches poll or in whatever seating for college football playoff or winning the culture well well it sounds like Nick has a different approach now and talking about the IL. This is what he had to say on the subject matter today that well I don't dislike name, image and likeness. I'm all for the players. I will players do well our players did extremely well. Last year they made over $3 million in name, image and likeness. So, I'm all I'm all for the players. You know, being able to do as well as they can, and use their name, image and likeness to create value. The biggest concern is you know how those this impact and affect recruiting because on the recruiting trail right now.

There's a lot of people using this as inducements to go to their school by making promises says to whether they may or may not be able to keep on in terms of what players are doing and I think that that is what can create a competitive balance issue between the haves and have-nots, and we want to have so you know don't think that what I'm saying is concerned I would have an Alabama because what were one of the house, but everybody in college football cannot do these things relative to how they raise money in a collective or whatever and how they distribute money to players so those of the concerns that I have in terms of how to replace guidelines around this so that we we can maintain a competitive balance.

I love it, it's gone. I love it I love this guy. I love it's gone from a we a problem here than IL conference competing its edema just payroll and splintered to a work good with this much I Guzman 3 million bucks and I was players, matronly books, which is great and I have some concern that the have-nots last time he heard about it made it sound like he was one of the have-nots is not, and I think this is a brilliant approach brilliant approach really anybody you sit here in think in that Alabama's got a problem, and this may be the end like it's going to level the playing field Alabama unit was can it make sure the playing field for Alabama is tilted in Alabama's favor Nick Sabin he's gonna walk into somebody's living room and if somebody's like I got. I can get more money from school asked schoolwide school. See if Mick I'll be like Rick is Nick Sabin Kochan fact team because I Nick Sabin anybody needs to remind being the reminder of who I am. Google money back to ask about me ask around me and what I can do and where players go from here and how much may make in the NFL.

This is a much better approach for Nick Sabin to take publicly than the one that that he did a couple of weeks ago. Big Ten and you know, certainly since she's not potentially affect me and his colleagues are so of course Jimbo Fisher was brought up to this what you decide. Before first of all, I have no issues or problems with Jimbo is not a great job at NME did a great job for us and I always take criticisms or whatever in a positive way self-assessed me personally in terms of maybe there is something that I could do better and so any comments that anybody makes you or any coach always take into consideration so on. But there is no issues or problems so he's better. He's a better person for for all that better person for all and how he is centered between the SEC logo and branding just means more. There is no official look but me just remind everyone where this is Nick Sabin.

Once guardrails every once the gardens you have guardrails and you want to guardrails sold Alabama would become the have-nots.

He is now saying where have.

He's concerned about the have-nots is the little guy guess guess how long that handwritings can last. It's already stopped because what's gonna happen is the guardrails that Nick wants and everyone else. Once you hearing lame And talkative.

This should be a salary-cap triad dad. This is professional, all it's all going that way where the dinner figure out how much players could be paid, how much, not players of the name wind up pushing back about a union I'm sure coaches are going to be very upset about that school presidents will be terribly happy about it but it's common it's gonna happen, and how was work which because this could be washed small amount. It seems to take the footballs and create their only and you better get in while the getting's good get better have Sankey on speed dial. You better have the Big Ten and its member schools on speed dial because those are the teams those the organizations that Aurora Creighton there's and so you just can have a small consortium. It's 3232 4864 fine do that. Figure it out every body like the Big Ten consortium in the SEC consortium in the ACC consortium and the big 12. In the past 12 it already. Apparently, you know, talked it out and said they couldn't figure it out. Those who have their own consortium's dilemma champion within those spots and those for which is what I did just off the top my head and within those consortiums you can have name, image and likeness rules. And that's how they can it be in the NCAA's can be like one about us and be like new phone.

This way it's going telling you all this, the way it's gone and I think by bundling Nick whoever you sat down with wherever Alabama sat down to make brilliant new approach brilliant. How much money is made by money Alabama on Nick Sabin were have so were good. Great approach.

No more talking about anybody else or what they're doing work and injury.

Other other places are incentivizing players to come as an inducement. That's not supposed to be the case where have so were good. That's the that's the handling not talk about slice bread Jimbo Fisher coming out with guns blazing sale. Say hello to my little friend press conference is okay know that while you know. Can you believe that happened that happened like okay I believe everything that happens nowadays okay 844204, which numbered here on the rich eyes and show we got ourselves a conversation with Justin Hartley. That was my nickname in high school's high proof and was it was in high proof in the inmate in the and you hello yea hello yes or doing were doing using my beautiful thank you Holy Spirit so it's it's a view it's basically tequila okay mescal would take some of the processes by which to make both of those rights. We marry the two rebel distilled and we make it more or less Mexico loggia Mountains. I like I got involved, so I've I've always been interested in distilling a price to bring my own beer like for real really stainless steel. I did the whole thing and was told that was is in college or something.

Now it was after college, I got your card to play hard right yes are you so so anyway, that kind of a by the wayside. And I always been interested in, and in this and I met a guy will I was winetasting.

Oddly enough and this man comes up to me and he starts talking to me and was thrilled to be talking to me. I just assumed I think maybe he watches this is also true you know and then he sits on my dinner that we had a couple weeks ago or something. I'm thinking my site. I never met this guy don't know. Very nice man disses, but I never messed he walks away. I go over to my friends in Christ, we know that that do the really nice men just came over to look over and I like now we know that his and I look back over him and he's with his friends. Now this, and he looks back over me and you could see he was like embarrassed for some reason comes back over many goes on. I'm so sorry night.

I thought you were. I thought you were someone else. I I've you are never seem to show my friends told me who you are talking like it's quite all right these ends up being a really fantastic guy, hilarious and and we exchange numbers the things I come in that you know this is also we sit down and were talking and I had a couple of ideas for them and he liked the ideas and a couple different directions, and he liked that we performed.

This partnership is an hour were co-owners in their plus I have dirt on them. Blackmail okay and I'm getting so have you ever determined who he thought you were not estimate, she thought I was a friend of his named Conrad I've also never met Connor anybody name, I've never met a comrade in my life, but he better be better every time you know I mean if you look like a thought.

I was Conrad all my God, it's all so yes my friend Micah Micah denied the suspension together very proud of you a chance to try it and it really is the best agave spirit on the planet. Yes, wonderful, wonderful stuff okay and better as I would be involved is not rental spirits.com is where you can get more information. Now, on all of this amazing story. You know, this wouldn't have happened if he didn't think you were Conrad now I Conrad to think.

I guess if I get a phone call from Conrad doing a piece now and I Conrad to go #Conrad. I'm sure his fines and is unbelievable. So my issue and culture.

Tequila has always been a night and are for me.

I can't even have it during the day driving you know we just came off a two week vacation in Italy is a day I was in Italy, which I will get that we can run into you. Did you run into, Conrad is probably right now I see was so I mean I did a little bit a day drinking okay vacation you know. But I can't have it. So is it different right got to forget those cleaners three ingredient is we don't have sugar. We don't know we don't we don't add anything.

It's it's purely what the what the soil gives you which is beautiful. It's no version soil and okay I fantastic him again Rick to check it out and admirable spirits.com will talk more about it here with Justin Hartley on the program. Do you do miss.

This is us to miss doing it or it was just so long you been there was really long days hard work you miss it at all. I miss the look. That's a tricky question because Alta no no sick I don't I don't want to say I don't miss it because it seemed that with me seem like it.

It's not it's not as some rewarding wasn't as big of a part of my life as it was, it was a massive part of my life changed everything for me honestly and I miss the I miss the people I miss the people I miss Kevin and I miss playing the character. I guess I missed the show we we did so much on that show that I'm so proud of.

We touched so many topics hot topics topics that are relevant depression, sexuality, addiction, divorce, death up everything you can imagine, so I feel like if I miss it just so proud of it and I look at it is something that I accomplish that from your from beginning to end and now you can just kind of look at and go wow that was really amazing. I'm kind of just enjoying my life right now. Honestly I generate is amazing to have a proud moment moment your character well enough to show her that you you look back and go okay that's that's the touch point. That's the touchstone that's what I'm I'm proud of. I think everybody when we started the show. Everyone was so talented and just really great with the redoing and if you look at where everyone went. He's a really talented world-class actors and if you look at where we ended up as you know, six years is a grind.

I enjoy going to work every single day. I love these people and from the beginning until the very end. Everyone gave their all. There were no days off. There was not one moment where you look like it like a team writing you go hate that that we might've lost that game but there's not. There wasn't one moment where someone took their eye off the ball. Mistakes happen for sure but but the effort was there from beginning to end. No one way that never saw proud of that, overall, and then just the journey of the character.

I love the way Dan Fogelman wrote this character, where he's going through all this turmoil and you know so often. This will happen on TV and then by the end of the episode or by the end of the season that characters find back to normal and everything's great.

He didn't do that with with Kevin which I think that's more like what you go through in real life. It does, it is not always a happy ending right around the corner just so for years. He was going through this thing, and that he relapse and go through it again which is life and and I appreciated that. And as you know friends with with Ryan leaf Ryan leaf was amazing came to the writers room and just spilled you guys incredible mean by nominee sit on this chair. I know he's is great that so few dates coming up in August is made out to the ISO became the rock yeah and sat down and get engaged his story which he didn't have to do any of that overpaying and let me know it is just did that out of the kindness of his own heart and force of the show and I will never forget that he was is amazing. Did you have you running anybody who's who just shares their story with you because it has mirrored all the times it happens to meet every time I would my house know you and I and I love it. It's like that.

I'm not a therapist at all, but I certainly can. Can I certainly can look at someone and listen to their story and no help them and that way I guess but it's nice it's it's pretty amazing. I can always use set out a set out to do what you want in life and for me it was be an actor and it was so you know it's not to happen, but I'm a try and then it happens and you're like wow this is happening and then you shall like this is us.

I never in a million years thought that I would be part of something that was that special to so many people so how'd you get I miss it because you did, you would buy additions that sets I auditioned and I my friend my friend Michael Rady calls me says did you have you read this Dan Fogelman pilot and I said yeah I got it. It's called pitch the baseball and was know there's another one is I think you know him and I go I know of any because I think you wrote you in the show. I used to read this. So he sent me the script like my friend Michael Rady is an actor he was going out for you got the script somehow I go in and out of flipping to the script and I see in the it's it's Jack, right, and I'm looking at the McComb I got it on Jack.

He doesn't, I'm Jack and I flipped like her for fiber pages and I go on, Kevin Trapp, I got a get Mike together because I'm Kevin and I was I was I was laughing, but I was also like wow is this I mean is that what people are well so that I went in and I auditioned and it was this really long sad monologue that I turned funny I thought it was funny and they liked what I did and dresses is as it is his yeah Justin Hartley here on the rich eyes and show okay you have something in common with my friend TJ Jefferson was there to your right over there. You have both participated on the Price is right. Yes it is. Yes, it is against God's is his name tag right there. Did you want up on the Price is right this would happen here I am, I got I got asks Best Buy that the head guy at CBS asked if I would come in and they do a prime time version show print members of my wife's a field of mega-beautiful see that's why my life is so great right now on his yeah it's not Drew Carey making his Jeff Bridges as the sun rises and sets in her earlobes as is incredible that woman is coming in. Honestly, find a woman like that that that that that is funny and speaks five languages talented actor. She's like a stuck woman as well.

She sketchy she can cook. She's interested in so many things and sometimes she talks about things and I'm like I got a look that word up on you know what you're talking about but I love listening to the pricing on the Price is right and you look at a charity thing is really nice so I have this charity operation therapy where we we provide service animals to vets without PTS and and it really does help.

It saves lives and so we have this place in Montana and we we get these beautiful dogs to these awesome so we raised at night. I wish I had the number off the top my head. It's 100 and something thousand dollars. We raised for the charity and and and that that goes a long way. So it was a fun idea. If you chance to do it. The Price is right. You will look at awesome years ago a price reached out to the NFL consist CBS at the Super Bowl got into the promoter yeah we can watch Super Bowl promotion of the stereo was later the super white reached out and he said you know that everything I told you provide a couple people from the NFL to come on and be part of a of of the show known as a contestant, but to give away a great showcase rate and I said under one condition I have to give away a brand-new car okay show up in a dinette to know nobody wants to say but didn't have to say the words that's right okay I very very rare. Do I make demands so that's what happened. He demanded, of course, so I gave away cash and prizes. That's great. I wish I would be a contestant on it. TJ was a contestant I was a legit contestant yet. What will the pricing team did you want know so we what they did was we helped all the contestants we know whenever we help them whatever they want.

We got cash equivalent for chair chair a nice so two things. One thing I wish to marry you and your wife to help teach okay. Secondly, I'm glad you weren't there to help. TJ is the charity would've come away with exactly what she is able Harley-Davidson tomorrow so you want to present TJ click TJ suggesting that these, not humane prices) quarantine right big toe in the rabbinate's job is just and you get on the people.

Now the Price is right you actually make it onto the show and went get to the finals right showcase showdown. Some will the pricing went to go the other way.

Having never really sure hostage of the photographs ready if you want to get on stage and he's name is okay to come on down yeah I got height is something I watch wrestling the Scott Hellraiser Ramona Dillow razor Ramon Walken and Michael Jackson moonwalk the entire studio that oh miss you game to game is on point just wait the two other people to go over so I get to this location downright girl has the first page and pass it to me.

How much would you bid for two Harley Davidson motorcycles. It was all Ellis Florida is big telescopes like telescoping camp trip to Florida the Florida game hotel so we I don't remember and I say to It's we can save two Harley to okay how much would you bid on that I would bid likes 70, 74, 75, 74,000 men in 2000.

Okay you know what the bit for two Harley Davidson was know they were eight dollars apiece. Avalos yeah I found a T-shirt yet 75 right all you know what I yeah two Harley Davies and Harland rate. Yes, apparently they yeah your lovely wife and eyeball that you might've been able to now you're thinking of like you know probably like oh yeah you know these are not from a bicycle bike essentially got all easy for these guys to say after the pointless weird. What's weird is we we helped we help the couple always helped all the couples Valentine's Day answers vertical. Actually, so everyone's a couple of comes out. We help this couple we steer them in the wrong direction because they will ask him to carry around except the turnaround on the two electric bikes that way over because they those bikes were really expensive. They were they were ridiculously priced. Anyway, we we lost that present probably sees ultimate problem was the pricing game that got him to the shaft down enemy okay yeah it was a protocol master key. And it's a very rare pricing.

I was told the bottom third of Pres. Barry probably got kind of screwed that the Price is right. God still to very difficult hand but five keys. There are five kids in line if you get if you get a pricing game correct the pricing game got to choose a key okay he got one pricing game correct and he chose a key. He made the big mistake of not looking like again. Too much entertainment as I can be fun just kidding. It's hard to when you're covering your eyes and your backs turned to tell which team by my could have helped. Maybe they sent us in on the Photoshop unit that picture be there in the colors or I mean is that his income is the work actually it's at CBS Studios there bred by the Grove and across the hallway base. You're young and the restless, which I was on the their old and and and so we would see the note treadmills boats putting green little minutes.

I mean, I love that this is crazy is a little miniature moped all the stuff they got going in another and have a great seeing you nail your lines. It's really dramatic in your yodel are in the background actually happened is like you to serve the audience just to close the soundstage door.

I mean this is the rapidfire of soaps there like I think we got a Mike I don't think we got it we got it. Just don't care. I'm telling you that's right that's right my so many everything, Bill Marshall, was in the same as guises right it is is remember walking around the backstage there and you see all the pricing changes jammed in motor and you know that's where they keep him in. I looked I saw the .0 board like that's iconic ping-pong table by chance you say. My wife and I were just talking about how much of a ping-pong as you might have been his next let's take the ping-pong table and sell it for charity will give the money to this beautiful charity dogs help those with PTSD.

It's a beautiful idea operation therapy congratulate thank you yeah and overly proud of it.

That ping-pong table you signed and he's just where is it right now to Sonoma living heavy still in the box. Jessica delivered by two cats who were both like 64 like it was 900 out Parker's non-beauties drop them once the normal diary. What's that about oh is a movie that I did with Charles Shirer who is directed, father of the bride and and and he's back at it. I think Alessi directed maybe was Alfie and and so I got to work with him.

He is a is is an icon.

He's also more energy than anyone I've ever met in my life and he's been doing this for so long as such a great director anyway.

Does the story it comes out on Netflix. I think in November I believe okay and is basically without giving too much away. I will get in trouble here because I am and what I'm supposed to talk about, but it's it follows this this guy I play this character who is an author and he's doing a book signing finally comes back home from a book signing tour and he gets some news about his family, but he's estranged from and like you said, without giving too much later, it sends him on this journey to try to discover these things that are missing in his life and how it how it's related to his family and and his past and his relationship with his mom and his and his dad and all that and in doing so, he also has a partner with them. This this woman who is trying to find someone to go on this journey together, literally cross-country journey together. Try to plug in these holes where their lives are lacking and they end up kind of connecting and in a in a very special way.

So a lot of things he found out about he finds out a lot about himself and what he's capable of his shortcomings.

Some really great really great story moving and also fun and under some comedy and is also coming Netflix later this year. The original title was the Conrad diary but that's what's called called called back because you actually change the name to the normal diary. Not great. I think this in baseball. If you want to have the ghost runner and a 10 thinning do that for what one thing I would say Julie thinks maybe started started at the 12th.

Maybe two innings if you want to do that. Also like 1011 how you hockey doesn't hockey doesn't where they had a mini me about dating miniature overtime for him for right negative and three, which doesn't look just at all like the regular because they take two players all around three and then after that she baseball leftists love it. Ghost runner for two innings if it start after that home run Derby. I know I sound stupid. I know I said I like this is not baseball guys know I think it's baseball either, but neither is the ghost runner.

It's stupid.

I hated the annual leave or run. You put the runner on you just come in the 10 thinning that run of scores. It's not against you in a loss. You can basically come in and get three outs. Don't give up ahead. Don't put anybody on any earned run against you in a loss, so Lauren gathering in the list. Let's go to ridiculous everything you got under set up Manfred's whole thing is speed up the game let's get it over with. You got.

I don't need to be sent out the data. The actual home run Derby needs to be speeded up should take three hours that the glass not connected once once a year carrots to you guys know who the players are who will do the Derby at a party and announced I did know if you knew the names will go to heaven course we got Pete Alonso admits we got cows for bravura fillies and we have run of the commute, Junior the breakdown of how nationally the American League Dusty Baker selected Julio Rodriguez sleep tight France in the Kyle Tucker of the extra advantage AL conference. Also, do you think is higher when Julio Rodriguez he probably could delete 21] hundred 29 Alonso looked pretty ghastly skin that I've been able to get a tie game. I game on purpose right. I thinning were down, wanting a good one to somebody sent a cookie by channel partner channel right down the middle, right down the middle and Dave Roberts at third base will get hit by back to Dr. manager Clifford coaching third base functioning.
