I resize and show your just host the rest of the week before I am alongside some of the greatest people in the entire world. I don't know if they give enough credit when you know to my right teacher Jefferson Michael to follow Chris Rockman. This is a crew I been looking forward for our guys while draft right right now.
When Rich was gone. The draft and now he was in Canton last week. She is dictation and I'm assuming the rest this week in areas like new clothes looking to Italy for a month and then you know it's hilarious. I point this out this morning. I'm sure this will get back to some sort of hating. He has been on vacation now for a couple days.
No Instagram post no Instagram stories do you think because we gave him such a hard time post Italy that he's knocking a post at all this week as kind of a one ops like celiac. I can go on vacation and not what you want like you were that you lead the charge about him posting from Italy every meal you. I think Chris is mad about him not post I'm not mad about not posting them just observation like you know it's damned if he doesn't end there comes a point when it comes to Instagram that the self-importance it's a precipice right like all look at the noodles in my pasta in Italy today. Everybody should see this. Everybody needs to see if I think people need to see what class I meeting today right thing. I did it I get I get mom and I at home was said before when I gone too far with Instagram like why do you care that somebody sees this part of your life that you're supposed to be enjoying it. It is the question. If the tree falls in the forest and you're not there to hear it doesn't make a sound) maybe right if Rich has ice cream cone in Nantucket and did do it is actually taste like chocolate or if he does that was about to be explored. If these were his red Nantucket sweater.
If he does have that on the hat doesn't have cells that are over there, he left ahead here for you all rhyme is and will be using that picture so rightly show you can call it I want. I would love to get some calls it dig deep into no NFL training camps in the conversation, Angie Brandt is going to join us that he is been spot on with everything he said to say around the Sean Watson legal battle. I want talk tomorrow him about the contract aspect of things because you did you get the best contract ever and he was coming into it was always allegation who was his agent, its athletes, first as his agents and the leopards. How did he have any leverage. I want to talk to Andrew about that because it's still dumbfounded. We talked about Jodi Roscoe enjoys his new book called five star quarterback and he's been working with the lead 11 for years and years and years alongside his work with the pack 12 network and he seen all these kids grow and grow and become stud quarterbacks and cultural settings books. Greg will have him walk as well as landslide told new head coach will not new is been there for one year, but head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks football team. I really really believe in the sky. I had a chance to call if he was games last year I think is a good opportunity for him to talk to the nation here and on a national radio show on TV showing talk about what is team is trying to accomplish because it's it's a battle at Kansas when you got the best basketball program in college basketball right sitting there and on the football side of things you are unable to really compete.
Why do you take that job. How do you turn it around and make it something special to get the right guy for the job that he join us will later talk about Andrew Brandt join us and then J. Von Walton right at any of you, for your fans out there. His character ashtray was probably one of the best characters on that show and he just did a new movie with Sylvester Stallone called Samaritans coming out on prime video later this month and I got a chance to watch it last night a little like being the host of the show can sneak PSA trainers) and that you were able to go on your Apple TV and download the app and watch it right on your TV, like I am yeah it'll code watch sliced along runaround is a super hard on himself. On your show today right excited to be here.
It's been a crazy crazy off-season for me. You guys of course close to me know. My family and I are gonna be moving to Connecticut and for work and it is really exciting yet daunting. The moving truck came yesterday or on Sunday loaded about three quarters of the house and just that process will get the moving process. The moving business is a giant scam giant scam house. I don't think I don't think you know the moving company that worked with us on Sunday knew I was there be hosting a national radio show this week but they placed himself. Allah's case that this is where were right to Connecticut you might want to wait until your stuff gets to live and thought about that. I would name them as your attorney. I got the idea. I did not want to our or will need to do that at this point, but who's to say it's it's kind of a grimy business list put it that way right as brokers everywhere you back moving to Connecticut right we wanted a house for the kid to grow up in like I did growing up I had a backyard right. Not that we don't love Los Angeles. First, it's it you know we just know we don't have the wherewithal to put in and out inground pool like Mr. Brockman here right Baller Baller and he saw and you know he knows what he has in case Brockman. He knows got a golfer on his hands and make you now live type of money before we know Al Qaeda is already on the feeling offers baby lived so it's got a backyard backyard got a little half-court basketball court.
No batting cage so if the kid wants to play sports. It's it was if you like a house for sports. This is supported. I mean, let's let's be honest, but I relief has no choice. He's already 67 yeah and I four years old already top 10 rivals basketball for the class of what like 2038 well get a hold him back. He's he's right on that that fringed right. October 5 is the birth of 17.
Your entire senior year or 18 about to be 19 and Morgan were going to do.
I think the 18 routes Mark I was 17 my entire senior year was me to and I was, I think I was mature physically enough, maybe not me. I grew at a time when I got to college at that first year right so we'll see we'll see what that looks like Caesar. These are huge parent parental decisions you have to make.
Of course, is this apparent.
I think my mom just wanted me out.
The crib seems like it is been argued that it was the oldest of three boys, so she was, like at no. Nine more years, and for the other ones out stick around for one more year, maybe. So yeah, that's the big news in our family around it were, what Rich Eisen fans out there in the rich Eisen show fans let Rich know you know as I will you rarely text me back anymore because it was gallivanting around the always on vacation around the world.
Let's if you need me to host a show on the Spivack big deal. You know Newark to LA is nonstop five and half hours. Nothing be right here in the seat when he needs me or even know you're leaving you when to give up your spot know I'm the I'm the reliever right in the right hand goes to see. I want to continue to build deadlines for gets a lot of flight that left me some deadline this summer like reprieve summer vacation day like the summer vacation, vibes, toxins, talks to movies and movies will pop culture. He loves Kanye I'm a lefty, a writing email to Mike you need to have you both are always wonder if there's brief because every time the one of them is here. The other ones like lines and guys you know you having fun way to get cold. You guys have beef with each other. I know this okay I'll be the one that comes back in the other direction here. I'm grateful for this opportunity and no I am so grateful for this opportunity. As always, but I will if need be, fly back into the show. Also, you know are our sister or sister family Dan Patrick show is now literally 15 minutes from my house so still you from Dan.
Dan needs a day off right. You know now is got somebody who's got the fight. Ross Tucker see Mike and fight Ross Tucker giving you to choose a site is likely sometimes a parent when married couples get divorced and the friends Greg RLL. I say that we got divorced from damage. Just know jump over there then come back here and I think I can. Okay, maybe there's a peacock some synergy synergy there okay NBC Sports DirecTV and AT&T in the past right. There's a lot of synergy there a lot of yeah yeah is our friend solely you know, used to be really close to those guys and now you see know he's kind moved over to you guys kissing start kicking it with me and Brockman and then you realize you used to ticket a ton with her still doesn't answer Perloff by Sandra Perloff not with the Dan Patrick show anymore. This is a lot inside. Based on this is how the sausage gets me this is how the sausage is made a lot of football stuff happening. Ryan is a lot going on to see the Bears this morning took on Smith want out yesterday that enough.
My brother lives in Chicago. His girlfriend works in the Bears facility cells suites and in the hospitality stuff like that and whenever and wherever I'm there I can just and I felt this way with with with with Maggie as the head coach the Navy situation seemed very lame-duck to me like I like no one idling anybody out there thought that I have the job going into this year. It's very similar and we get into this a little later to the situation. I think it's going on Carolina with Matt rule. I really think there is a lame-duck feeling 02 this season for Matt rule because I don't know which quarterbacks can apply items suspected to be Baker Mayfield that defense is really good. He hasn't transitioned like all people expected him to transition he still holding onto a lot of that college football head coach mentality which doesn't play at the NFL level right, it's a it's a group of men now you have a lot of control over the guys in the college environment coming look the greatest college coach of all time excitement right at me. His tenure in the NFL was was short not very successful in so those two scenarios are very similar to me. As for Chicago, yeah, your your best defensive player alongside a guy named Cleo Mack who got traded this off-season. Now the other guy is saying to everybody. I want out is on you know on a 50 year option right this is this is this is a big Chicago is in a real situation for a team that has so much history and legacy of the NFL to really be a doormat in that division. I mean if Campbell and Detroit find a way to find some semblance of success this year and also Chicago's, at the very bottom of it.
What is that what is that mean to this team and how to go about it. I mean, they lose their best wide receiver and Robinson right the franchise take him. He got hurt didn't work out. The cinema law.
He's now in Los Angeles, with the defending champions, Cleo Mack.
Justin feels is supposed to be the answer there, but you don't have anybody around him at the NFL level. I don't care how great you are just little cam Newton scenario you got guys around you. You can't be cam Newton like he was in college at the NFL level is just too difficult to many great players can't be protected as among the worst offensive lines in the league yeah it's it's this is this is interesting. It's always fun to hear players watch and see other players make money, get things done will go to Cleveland with that too with Kareem Hunt in that possible decision to do a hold in but you clearly did not bark at that that possibility back saturating very little leverage everybody very little leverage right the most important position. The quarterback position where they start, how they get to where they go usually starts in the lead 11 in the high school. The recruiting process. Five stars in the recruiting process. Our next guest, Yogi Roth. Impactful networks have talked about talk to us about his new book in all things five-star quarterback we come back your listen to the rich eyes and show will be right back to the rich eyes and show Ryan leaf you're filling in for Rich Eisen. He's getting ready. This is this this is tuneup week to get it right for NFL season after his days the NFL network at Canton high to rev it up it's revving up quarterback is is the perfect addition to talk about in our next segment here joining us buddy of mine. I like to read this Yogi because this is this is this is this is I know you will be well. So this makes me Roth is been driven by the power of sports and story for over 20 years as an on air college football analyst lead 11 coach Emmy award-winning filmmaker and New York Times best-selling author of former pit wide receiver in US ecology is the also motivational speaker TV and event host and world traveler veteran delete 11 football scout five-star quarterback co-authored Joey Roberts is much more than his instrument bio would suggest is a believer, a son or grandson, a brother, a friend, I can attest to coach Yogi seeker and nerd welcome to the show. My friend Yogi Roth, how we do is one buddy Matt when you think will probably think that we're both in Bali where my head went bad and now here I want you on the show, you talk about your event so popular little stories I story my first game I ever called for the tactical network. You know, was a big deal for me and I get a text right before about to go on air and I looked down is from Yogi and he just says welcome to the family can't wait in and just give the best advice I've said it before the show and I said it a lot a lot of people said you were your feet are and it's very simplistic but it's perfect be in the moment where your feet are and I want people to know that story about Yogi, thank you so much but appreciate that you think you're so proud that I remember I was somebody maybe called me that before I did my first one also abducted an end of the out a lot you know your ticket but I thought now that's next question is your here in LA when she when she sitting next to me in the studio right now is as it is in studio. Guess you just too busy can get away kid dad duty this morning.
Now I wanted on it.
I told her the phone or for now I'm actually sitting at the box about William Doolittle forgot my podcast. But what it Want to come check that out about this right down the street from humans in El Segundo. It's not too far from your your stomping ground.
So, good segue.
Caleb Williams right five-star recruit at Oklahoma.
Under Lincoln Riley a year ago. He makes the transition makes the move with the transfer portal with his head coach you know I think there's a lot of interesting USC simply because of all that the seams of four. When team a year ago a lot of expectations now talk to us about Caleb Williams and then maybe you can lead into your book, five-star quarterback and what it's been like to mentor and be around these great players all over the last decade of your career. The one presented is really unique player human thought leader a lot at that age. Remember when I met James 417. When I met Lawrence just to attend a bylaw there was all all that had something unique to write about half of an he's proven to be that guy you talk to anybody on the staff. She from when he arrived soon after they are we going to camp almost including work@you.goodbye.com out of school quarterback shortly. Big tall pocket guide dynamic player you do everything and talking deal so I'm excited that you truly got the doctor, which I find that you walk your room, you're probably better at that. I got the job.
Everything the lock manager there ready in between the wanted to make people feel like you can say that I donated the everything about him, purpose driven, I think you can end up becoming the blueprint for huge recruit who are really helping us all about how to manage expectations so I pump for him and I sit outside of looking at your doctor to be in its face on the cover along with 50+ other quote about and the reason that we wrote this book was really truthful wanted that over the last what you're doing delete 11 parenting player drafting the same question and now the pressure is only at the fine, the money is only growing expectation through the roof.
You can Google out of your five-star player jiggled out of your walk your parent so Joey and I got together we gotta create a book that will serve as a tribe of mentors for anybody going through this process.
So whether it guy in college. Now the NFL. Now on high school pop one in our family. We think this book number 600 pages offers advice on everything you could dream up from how to take a visit. What it's like to commit the commit how you deal with the management file you do with women on campus you when you transfer like what it's like what the reality fell and it's really fun. We asked you quarterback 24 question here. There are looking of the government, not Berkeley, Jimmy Kaufman, Josh Rosen, up and down the list and Mellinger will Greer and their two of quarterback that adorned that five-star ranking and what we learned in our call would not one of them ever asked but all of a sudden I got the spotlight and that's why the government going to cover their faces and I want fantasy their faith. All too often with school you there. You can highlight their arm ranking. You often forget that there human in all the pressures can grow in writing of anybody the development of a 19-year-old pretty much the same across the board. Your brain is developing the book we added not only quarterback answered before you you family off and thereby try to trick you offer your advice like survey psychologist offer your advice Pete Carroll Dan Lanning Lincoln Riley David Shaw judge. Friday all the people that I really admire coaching football will give you guys a road just one thing to take away that it is one of one right now. I think it could be really cool if a player in the family? This Rated talk about hurting or whatever it may be. I feel like when I go around the country and speaking parents and asked me about when they have a child that's that's super misfortune is athletic is getting a lot of notice. I love now that there's you know you're right. There's just unless you've experienced it.
You really can't speak to it and to have a resource like this will be huge. I think for her parents right. I am a foreign half-year-old. At some point he's going to realize some some athletic in a level of success in, and I want to be able to given the best advice and and so I appreciate you put together doing some like this talk to us a little bit about the elite 11 counselor aspect of this you been doing it for a long long time. You watch how this process is built and built and built and how it's become a huge part of the recruiting process and given guys a leg up when they have the opportunity to go to the collegiate level.
I love only love anti-bark in 1999 kicked off anybody from that era audit go to Around the country are granular of the country and you have a free And he started because he wanted everybody to have somewhat of a level playing you know whether you're the son of an elite quarterback, or whether knowing your family replace sport to show out show up and meeting him then and then being around coaching you're going around working for him at 11. One of my life joy. I get to meet the young man.
16. So whether that phonetics or Jerry Goff or Chris Schnackenberg in the drop-down list to be an they are told prior to How great the older cold you don't, and when they get there. What I found to be overwhelmingly common is all they want to do, but their guard down and get some help get some guidance. Every time I listen to the quarterback talk in the media. Prior to meeting them. They sound like political figures saying all the right what they think is the right stuff. Cliché Central and you're more than a ranking more than we love you got a store, you got a heartbeat got a solo cabinet and help share so I say that would be 11 in a decade.
Our staff at the mall across the country.
What we really take much pride in my football that's the chill that… We copy on the XML or we dive into offering them up with school to deal with all the pressure, whether that now and IL we gave her a shot in this year, the day after he reportedly was getting like 9 million needed to turn your phone off after our session where you can you name the topic whether media training might the training.
XO on the board outside of like how you deal with finances and I will bring in yellow of open-door what we try to pour in 4872 hour window as much as possible and and I love it when guys come back, they always come back at Kelsey's, whether EJ Manuel or Mark Sanchez or all the talk I usually come back here was Kayla. It was Bryce Yahoo Cedric Stroud anyone getting Larry rave about their experience they want and they pour back into the group and if this check you will in a community of people in my role is really to do that over the course of those days, but then when the cursor over you would be surprised that other people of the young men I talked to eventually make walk with you because I get up like a game Mary Kay I don't know how to deal not play a I just got out of rehab.
Hey, I just got out of a population like him to quit my job to direct light be and that's why I love that part of the me in our staff that we had some.
It's wonderful to hear Joby Ross 12 network Constable analyst and author of the new book five-star quarterback before I let you go here, I want to be remiss if we didn't talk about what what has transpired with the Pac 12 conference this this off-season right UCLA and USC. Of course, transitioning into years to the Big Ten. What does that mean for the current conference. The 10 remaining teams where we sit. After the news yesterday that came out that the Big Ten may be not utilizing in their media right still use Canon et al. how is that going to benefit the Pac 12 in their media rights negotiations with shortly? I think all that you drop optimally. I was on the radio doesn't tackle network like holy. You know what right and my phone like home. I got a I got.
I like okay and that I felt like it and I did like everybody went through the five guiding depression, anger, stress, grief came out of it and I love you, Mr. I'm such a fan of your 12 cost leadership skills and his traits and how he's not only help this thing together every ADM people I talked to state that same line will emerge, and I think we are working emerge differently when I can have this market fairly but will we have Martin will we have branch you to grow and strengthen. We still have 10 teams that I think top to bottom take out the few elite teams in the country. I think our collective 10 people compete against any gear you call game great diversity of skiing. We still fit number three every year and so it oligarchy rollup with and I love the unity that is that you all this like every football and not become a meteorite expert and I'm not I got I don't know what happened but I do know that the games are gonna be on television. I hope you have the article again of the 10 schools in my browser may add however that don't. I don't know that out. I really think we need you read it would seemingly see that box is probably out of the Coxwell conversation and I imagine he is granted largely in conversation. I don't know how to work the thing about Jackpot knowledge and training camps you think amid all this. All we talked about with right field and realignment all the stuff you and I you're saying and I and I made him a double down on storage kick ass, but this is telling stories, celebrating the game coaching the viewer. That's what I'm going to do it after I get the most joy I like talking again.
I get it out of like a great night.
George will lead our rights. Amazing place.
I think our schools will remain united really well. I love the talent this year in the lead, back to quarterback your country are our top six, if not even more against any other legal topics quarterback and that's a lot of reasons why so little that out but I'm excited for the future are definitely not what I love when that unique drop Julie Ross everybody tactical network Constable analyst, author of the new book five-star quarterback. Hey, thanks for taking time this morning with me, but I really appreciate it. Will see you soon 8 yes yes yes will get on that. That's my bad writing to you since it was just real quick I need. She went to pit and I also spent a lot of time in Oakland just warning you all your roommates of Larry Fitzgerald what was was Larry like back in the days like what was his mindset in his mentality when you guys were living together.
Together because they read what you think your job is exactly what happened, but out of the personal data practically likely that they are but I love I love tell the story about Larry again. One of his freshman year, we coerce you today but at the beginning of the world warm-up jacket and began and he put his suit and tie and I went over to Larry and Mandy… Big brother ball model where you want jacket and not know what I'm about. They want and I say that because players are doing what it meant to be grow drunk from you today got a cappuccino before you, and then back to me with such a bite that trickled over and everything always in always in the training. Always a later always trailer and always what you got up.
That's what an ocular number to this day, the day he left early. He left after two years because he didn't hear the prep. I remember going up why you leave an anonymous 9021-year-old kid like stick around to make sure your college for yourself in the best position for your future what your doctor your lawyer rapidly. I'm never to get drafted higher than projected.
Now I so I got ready to go and and when he said that to me like so many things click around the crap board and him and throw prior even being Oracle 12 amazing and authentic. To this day he still stayed in touch with not only me but so many of our teammate Beverly never see her room are you guys I've met for being a personnel network Constable section join us December Ross you can get his book five-star quarterback is available now for purchase via amazon.com for more information on five-star quarterback, visit www.five –*QB.com for updates and connect with Yogi at www.yogiroth.com you guys heard me talk about you know people who supported me into this broadcasting world and you know Brady Quinn and Joe Klatt Carter St., Greg McElroy all those guys let me shadow them during that year, wondering whether if I was wanted to do this if I could be any good at it, you'll be Ross is one of those guys to he just he's led at tactical network is been there from the moment it started and is been a guiding force for that network. Through this process and for me so I was great to hear him talk about some of the things that he's got to experience a book that's can be a big deal for parents were dealing with with situational things when you gotta an athlete such as the likes of Caleb Williams right and what happens and when you navigate that when you transfer college or somewhere else like what is that you don't have to be five-star best thing that ever happened to me.
Probably stars didn't exist when I was get recruited right so no one knew when I got the calls was no expectation I could sit for a year and redshirt and not be expected if I don't play right away to be the guy right there a ton of expectations on those guys when you have those stars next to your name, no high school so appreciate him and what he's bringing to the table to take a quick break we come back, talk a little bit about what I've done this summer.
Got an experience something pretty cool. It comes with a great story that involves Terrell Owens and I hope you really enjoy those stories tell me all right when we come back to the rich eyes and show I'm Ryan leaf will be about the rich eyes and show blindly filling in for Rich alongside TJ Jefferson Michael Dell to flow. Mr. Chris Brockman here with me. Call 844204 rich that's 844-204-7424 if you want to talk about anything that we are discussing today some big news out of New York. Chris Brockman we got with the Jets. Yeah, bad news for the jackets yesterday. McKay Bakhtin, went down and was limping off the field not look good but they were optimistic. More bad news today. Though McKay Bakhtin has suffered an avulsion fracture of the right kneecap you can see second opinion tomorrow, but he is likely out for the year.
That's the second straight year now McKay Bakhtin the gigantic left tackle for the jet will have missed and that's always a bad news for the Jets. The bad news for Zach Wilson. How do you read the situation. Ryan, we were on NFL radio last night on Sirius XM when I was when this is kinda broken how they thought it might be a little worse than expected. A guy that size is massive and massive the mass to somebody like that injuries are compounded. Unfortunately, for a guy who's incredibly powerful like it's a it's a huge lawsuit. They asked me to to kind of place on hierarchy of where isn't in terms of disappointment and its big he was given me a big part of showing up that often sublime because if he's not able to protect Zach Wilson in his second year. Zach Wilson is not going to be able to utilize all those weapons that they placed around him now out there so you hope that this doesn't diminish the product much, but when you look at the size, the strength, the athleticism of a guy like that this is going to be difficult mountain to climb. Now with the process already ill had unrealistic expectations on this team I believe is still the Jets. We talked about this before. Right you know you're too into the three year ritual. They have every year or every three years right new head coach and quarterbacking boom boom blanket was okay and then and get out certainly warranted to have some expectations this year.
Yes, dear. Zach Wilson did show some promise, kinda near the end loaded with offense of weapons Seckinger Robert solid good defense.
It was okay for them to think maybe we could go seven Tanner 89, but that is a huge lawsuit. Yes, it's a big loss. It's a big loss selling browns gotta be online one right yes he was there he was there for the white and green game the other day I started all 17 weeks last year he's been a mainstay's old is older than his older right is not enough enemy. Six. I do think though you know if this if there are some some general managers out there need a guy to come into gotta chase Daniel at this year I could do that you Can't farm yeah I could throw in camp and I could be there for the entirety of the year is going to be the backup. I can be the third string got to be there to help help anybody along you know throw during practices and was it that just basically paid.
That was just now still in the fourth guy was Mike the just like stay at home you're on standby in case something happened. Yeah I'll do that for million dollars is the bargain Riley mean with my agent does a good job. You will get athletes first as my agent know and I'll get 10 times more than I probably should. With that with the stuff okay. I went storytime storytime at dryas. Yes.
Alright, so this the summer. This summer I got a call from a friend of mine that's asked me to participate in something really cool right was the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson going to the major leagues and they were putting together a celebrity softball tournament or softball game at Jackie Robinson stadium there at UCLA, and he asked me to be a part of and I just thought that was incredibly cool.
I got to meet Jackie's granddaughters. The foundation that puts it on Nike and everybody stood up to put this event on there were celebrity such as little Wayne was a part of it. That was pretty cool. He was on my team and we are not shorter than I thought he was. We all got to where dodgers uniforms are the number 42 and Robinson on the back. It was an unbelievable night. It hasn't anything when it comes to competition. I am I go a little bit over the top right. I have I have to compete at everything a spinnakers of my my whole life right so like I took this really seriously you know I wanted to play every anything like one Arco Tuesday to Jay whose result is like dude you got him.
He began play every template everything I want to play shortstop now wanted to but they did they did asked me to be the home run Derby participant for Martin. We were the white chambers. The blue team and the blue team's participant. There's one there's a bomb right there. The blue team's participant was none other than Ariel. That's about Terrell Owens was was my competition okay all right now before we get into this story around the home run Derby. There is a back story to Terrell Owens okay so, years ago was it again that he got inducted into the Hall of Fame at three years ago maybe three for some like that. I honestly did not show up to Ken right and that this is this bears out the story here.
Okay, so I was posting one of my whatever shows on Sirius XM or on the rich eyes and so who knows. But I was when the news broke that he was inducted and he said I'm not going to Ken I'm not doing it right.
