Kansas Head Football Coach Lance Leipold tells guest host Ryan Leaf what cultural change is necessary to transform the Jayhawks from also-rans to respectability year-in and year-out, how he’s approaching possible Big 12 expansion, why he embraces being a football coach at a blue blood college basketball school, and much more.

The MMQB’s Andrew Brandt tells Ryan how Deshaun Watson’s agent was able to land the most lucrative, fully-guaranteed contract with all the misconduct allegations hanging over his head, if NFL teams are wise to hand over big contracts to receivers like the ones Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf, Christian Kirk and others recently received, and his reaction to Bears LB Roquan Smith’s trade demands.

Ryan and the guys debate if WRs deserve to get paid or if teams should spend money on other key positions such as the offensive line.

Patriots fan Chris Brockman and Ryan discuss the disappointing showing by Mac Jones and the Pats’ offense in training camp so far.

I think three other games a year ago and I was just incredibly impressed with the culture he was trying to build success in his career up to that point and how he led young man not only on the football field but in life and so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for him to promote what he's doing in Lawrence, Kansas with his football program so please welcome to the show landslide told head football coach for the Kansas Jayhawks welcome to the show. Coach Riley for your thoughtful, rich, great to be with you, Ryan. The opportunity will go well. We are we are were were excited how house can't go on YouTube for you at some big moments a year ago.

But how is house.

It started out there in Lawrence and it was hot as heck out there right now it has been warm and warm summer. Most of the country but you really proud of our guys night and day difference well imagine your goal all right again made a takeover program without having spring football. Most the camp was a, you know, installation of the kind established medial cultural foundation and really just try to get to know each other player to coach a coach or player, and now it's just so much smoother and we have an idea of where were going to work right where work to get out there and we spent a couple days with you guys and you the culture you were talking about right. Speak to what you envision the culture of a football program coached by Lance Michael Ross and I think most people know that I have spent 12 years at your football struggle and in trying to change a culture of attitude and resulted is not to be an overnight thing in and what we talk about his daily improvement and focus on what we can do but within the cultures Israel cultures action.

It's not not a bunch of slogans, are some words you gotta ask that you got it do it and a lot of those things have to do would be coachable work, how we get back to work. Embrace the opportunity that is been given to us in the day I would put it all out there that we could be the best version of ourselves each and every day guys are doing it. What more can I ask of them in our coached basketball and so I think there's we slowly look at it in instead of ourselves too much worried about yesterday are worried about tomorrow when we do the little things that I think our team is been able to to embrace that I think we saw that the last three weeks of the season and we tried to build upon that here as we've gone through the off-season. Now the early part camp were speaking with head coach, Kansas Jayhawks, program landslide told here on the Mercedes-Benz vans phone line. One of the needs parts of last season was of course the 02 overtime win at Texas right Jerry Casey are tight and I had never caught a ball before speak to how much of a catapult that was for all the work that your team is putting all your longest you only won one game up to that point. But to go to Texas at Austin to do that and stick with it and play the way you did the next two weeks against TCU West Virginia is can't talk about that a little bit.

I keep going.

You know from your own days playing in, and anyone that's been through hundred when you watch college, professional sports when when you get to that later. Part of the season in November and yard I mentioned earlier, the struggles of this program, a transition that happens late in your one in a that you're going to blueblood programs of college football. There's a lot of times young men will just play out this way and sometimes it's not everything that you want as far as intensity and focus goes Russ go down there and play and have some early success in that game much like we did against Oklahoma at home in October.

I was so proud were able to get the momentum and gain some confidence in to see the guys first of all believe in one another battle Texas made battle back, put it in overtime in but the CB the joy just like anytime you have a big and then you could even embrace more that the locker room was starting to believe believe in one another, believe in the structure and the plan of what we are put together and then went down and they practice like that the last game so we came up short again. You could see starting to narrow gaps in anything that you know within our between us and our opponents, and that was really proud of it and then as we headed into the off-season program starting after the first year you could see an extra sense of the chasm and attention to detail and then first day of spring practice the level and volume of communication and confidence had started to rise, and all those things are part of that step-by-step approach that that's going to be.

I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you about, you know the way that the big 12 attack 12: the organizations of these conferences are moving about what that means for your program. As a head coach with a team that is in an instance where you can't control all that. How do you how do you address that with your team when you know it affects your conference here at some point you say you always read all made first or third or something with the press conference right took the job. If you look at the amount later in the 14 months since then college football is changed immensely. Texas, Oklahoma, head of the SEC and IL and then now UCLA and USC had the big tenant realignment thing else that had a goal that that you know within the locker room are our players don't say much you know about that at least college coaches. They understand that we have work to do but I think holistically.

You have to look at it is know what's interchangeably appointed members could join us next year. Those are some exciting things but we have to continue to work hard, put out a winning program. A winning product that's going to get our alumni and our fans are students excited about it. We have to make improvements facility wise and doing things that can establish us to be a consistent winner in the big 12 conference and answer as we know. Then again, as all the rumors and other things go you let other people about me how to handle that. You know, we have a blueblood outstanding national championship basketball program and we want to try to do our part. You can't just make sure that the people know a lot about our university program spending so much time with you guys a year ago: future games.

I got to sit in on this coaches meeting snuggling with you, but with some of your coordinators and one of the biggest takeaways I had was from your offense of coordinator Andy, Nikki, his approach it.

I member walking out of that first meeting and thinking that guys going to be an offense of coordinator for an NFL program at some point, just the mindset that he had speak to your staff because it's incredibly important in building a culture and making a change at a universe like that and how how they come along with you as well and he does excellent job as he offered coordinator you know very detailed very focus studies the game well you did or personnel groupings that are tailored to the best we have enough you know where multiple offense that skill to use his own schemes, and Apple Morgan used a different personnel core strengths that were not kinda pigeonholed into one scheme.

First of all, but ending is been with me for 10 years now become very fortunate we are Wisconsin Whitewater for the last two years of my time there and he joined us in and secures a bottle about now suck. If you're hereby ball in our defense of coordinator going on your 16 together. We're together the whole time that Whitewater Buffalo now here and know a lot about them. Humility the dedication and loyalty in the belief and how we go about doing things and I think programs like Kansas like Buffalo.

When we got there staff stability and continuity and being on the same page is so critical when you're trying to climb the ladder that you're not locating coaches in and out every year and the players are getting different messages just quickly you are left tackle and I did you notice last year. Robot went and had nine coaches these on your 69 position coaches will hug you know how you trust Hardy break. I told me this way you know that it is so difficult and now we been able to keep that with these coaches and they been able to help reinforce culture and expectations.

I think that's really good. Help us as we move down the road so I hope Randy doesn't go too quickly for me to watch them orchestrate that offense last question here forgo speaking with the landslide told him to football coach at Kansas University in University Kansas. When people think of the University Kansas rightly think of the Jayhawks the basketball program right national champions. A year ago Bill self had our head basketball coach. I think a lot of people would look at that in terms of of a situation as may be difficult from a football aspect of things I would think maybe you taken a different approach and see it as a positive and how you go about your recruiting because of a great basketball program.

What that can mean for a football program there as well. Absolutely a great point. You know even about what character to Bobby Hurley was the best ball coach I first got job there dadoes about Alabama. I brace that II think I can learn a lot. I think that helps your recruiting. I think obviously expectations tradition and culture within our program up of region high level is something that you all strive to obtain. I said this many times in different places. You know they're not on our schedule.

They are not the opponent okay and sometimes you cannot. I've been a part of some departments where it gets so competitive dollars and attention, it becomes distracting and and and for me I think but where were the customer program work now working to fly under the radar little bit and go do our thing and try to get this built in the right way that we could put herself in the people will I look forward to did not launch until you put it cool down a little bit here for me when I when I come in there in a couple weeks so thanks for taking the time to sink.

Coach would really appreciate it. No problem right here appreciate the opportunity and all the best to you and your fingernails landslide told everybody head football coach for Kansas Jayhawks right over the last five seasons one and 11, 393-9019 last year two and 10 right it's it's difficult right in a world of have and have-nots.

They've certainly been there but I've always felt that when you find the right guy. The right coach to fit that position. You change the culture and he's been a winner wherever he's one however is been right once slid 6 national championships in Wisconsin Whitewater one at Buffalo.

I believe he has a chance here what I saw last year and improvement.

This team made.

I will see a play in the big 12 at West Virginia week two I think I might have that call so that Morgantown you know country roads and see where that were that Lee danced up to go to a spot that traditionally hasn't been a success right to a ballgame since 2008 yeah them in a winning record since 2008 says you go to a spot it's been 15 years and you're just know you're trying to build something in create a new culture, and that's no easy task on wonder what goes into the mindset of the coach. I suppose when you I would say languished in Division III and Division II in the group of five, but what makes you take a job like this right.

I mean one that you know is going to be a very tough go of things right to put yourself in that position. I think it takes a guy with a ton of humility, knowing that you know I'm just gonna do what I've always control what I can control and have a string of cotton head football coach from the collegiate level here this week. Offer programs that will have had me out to speak or having me out to speak to their teams. This this year it's need to make these relationships and build those and I'm glad he's got the opportunity to come on Richard show here to talk about his program because I do think you know in a world where money rules everything right now there's still something to kick it to character and integrity in in a game that I still look for for innocence. There's an innocence.

It may be naïve on my part because the pageantry and the legacy in history, but I still I still find there some innocence in collegiate football and in landslide told certainly upholds that.

So when we come back. Andrew Brandt is to join us.

I have a ton of questions for him around the Sean Watson situation.

The contracts that are going on in a big one I want to ask about in terms what GM does with how the wide receiver position is being paid on is gangbusters right now and I don't understand it because the numbers don't add up in terms of championships with a guy that you pay at the wide receiver position that much. Will talk to him next year on the rich eyes and show I'm finally filling threats will be right back everybody the rich eyes and show Ryan leaf year filling in for Rich for the rest of the week.

Great show, so far excited for our next guest. He has been many things in the NFL general manager for the Green Bay Packers during the time with Brett Favre and Aaron Rogers and has been a constant part of education for me and swore he lives in now is as a professor of law will go to show Mr. Andrew Brandt on the Mercedes-Benz then spans phone line and row don't do well with you and say before we met way before you knew who I was representing Ricky William met you at me when you guys are all getting the award way back in 1998 long time.

I didn't really interested to get your take on. You know, I watched people posting things on Twitter and talk about it in your in your newsletter and and the biggest thing I've come away with is how how was the Sean Watson's agent able to leverage the situation with a guy that was carrying so much baggage in so that he got the largest guarantee contract ever this summer. Unpack here obviously about pension and where things are going, but you bring up the point that funds me. I been found in a long time thirtysomething years between being an agent running team and being a media analyst and professor never seen a contract like this from court ever. This is the contract you see in the NBA, the contract you see in major league baseball we've never seen one like this in football ever and what strikes me so much thinking about this is that this is achieved in part and maybe even in large part by his own misconduct by his own misconduct. Think about that. He put himself in a position where he he did not want did not want the Houston Texans did not want him, and by the way, he didn't want them either right so it became an auction. It became an auction first to get prequalified.

The trade and they had three or four teams. I think for willing to give up three, number one, and whatever else then they could negotiate and you remember I think everyone listening remembers. At one point Brown throughout. They were out in the southern kid it with his saints and Falcons and maybe the Panthers and the Browns were a distant fourth. But I'll never forget the moment with Ian Rappaport and Adam Shafter, Mike, is this real Browns are not only back in the table I got an you to read through the lines in the right way they got them with the contract because it's like okay it looks like they handed a piece of paper to the agent and said fill it out because it's got the 46 million a year that's obviously the best ever. It's got the full guarantee no one's gotten weaker because he's got three years.

This is five years and then the claws are going talk about, which is first year minimum salary 1 million. That's the only money subject to this pension that the rules the only pension forfeiture comes out of salary, not bonus. The mobile old 45 million bonus which has written in the contract.

No forfeiture of bonus due to suspension, so it was written in a way that protects Watson more than any players and protected and we haven't even talked about what he came into this deal with the circumstances that I was talking about and then I get back to where it started, in part due to his own misconduct. He created the perfect storm for the contract. It is absolutely unbelievable that were at this position. I have another question to run the legality of things, especially dispensing. There's been some discussion around if the appeals judge comes back with a harsher sentence and it's something that the DeShawn camp doesn't like are they able to do similarly to what is it you know what Zeke and Tom Brady were able to do and then try to go file an injunction so there's a restraining order of sorts to stop it from that from happening immediately and he can go play.

I heard two different sorry that that's not a possibility with this situation and it is, is there a chance, any chance anywhere that that we could see the Sean Watson in those first couple weeks of the season this year right I'm a lawyer and law professor and not a litigation lawyer, so I don't have the true expertise and that's the way I Watson's team which is his individual lawyers and the union try to take this out of the arbitration system. One thing I'm sure is that when it eventually reaches an appeals court as Brady as Elliott as Adrian Peterson. They will lose they will lose whatever happens before we get to where you can play week one. She will eventually lose that battle law because the court for two arbitration system.

They want to deal with the stuff that was written in the CBA, but in terms of whether he can play the way I look at it did have his team is collective bargaining unit. The union agreed on a six-game suspension. They put out a statement saying make six-game suspension so any preliminary injunction to stop further suspension would start after games. That's the way I read it. I'm sure their lawyers say well the new appeal decision say it's 12 games are 16 game will replace the six games I don't know if I read it that way. Let's see what happens. It would be. I've been pretty strong on what the Cleveland Browns did this in the way Jimmy has and what about and Howie probably upset a lot of owners around the league because of it.

First, houses a team as they are bringing something into your hemisphere like this with the distractions. With everything that goes with it, trying to prepare to quarterback to court ice to play possibly when here there or nowhere. I did.

I just don't see how a team can compartmentalize like this, especially team like the Cleveland Browns is that so much turmoil in so much disappointment over the their franchises career. I mean, I think players probably compartmentalize it unless there always ask about it. You know, there is this weird role in the pellets going back decades, which even as a general manager. I never really understood it, which is if you're thinking, suspension, you can practice. I don't know what the magic of September, one where DeShawn Watson will magically disappear from the Browns seems to me that her now again role. We can practice reclaimed preseason games yeah I would think it's a distraction and I just tweeted out exactly what these owners are meeting today and that that is a topic and I'm sure they're all upset Virginia. Like I said it was a money deal. I just wonder Mabel will never know where the saints and Falcons choking point. What, in other words, when they have done a deal like this, but for given him the bonus.

I'm sorry this is pension free bone over they had done the full guarantee OR what what stop them because I have no doubt he wanted to play for one of those things and the money just to get Cleveland.

The decision before you got here just continue on with was that I have been doing some research around the amount of money is being handed to these wide receivers this this off-season. It is this precedent-setting and their teams are shown that we are willing to pay a bag out to a wide receiver and their teams are said that who have offloaded them to the other team that were not willing to do that you look back since like 2014 in terms of Percentage for a wide receiver number one wide receiver, the Super Bowl champion hasn't had a high Number got mainly they found one in the draft and it been able to live with him on a rookie contract but not one who's going on free agency and paid a big-time wide receiver. Why do you feel that's change in the mindsets of some of these general managers have coaches been more influential in terms of where the offenses are going. It just seems to. I'm not a big proponent of paying guys out much money is that much of a percentage of your Number to a wide receiver. I look elsewhere. In terms of a guy protects the quarterback the quarterback I got a rush as the quarterback.

I tend to feel the way you do this and I think the biggest story, 20, 22, not the world hunger DeShawn Watson. I think the biggest story, 20, 22, the transformation of the white paper marketplace into part. I can understand that the Devante Adams Tyree kill Cooper cup level. Even Christian Kirk free-agent because those that skinned on the Walters concert known as top veteran players the one that shook the market. In my mind with a tape around because now you deal with a guy a rookie contract and the Titans made the decision that Delco don't recycled rookie will take trail on Burks and once it's time to pay to Brown which they couldn't do Delco or something else and when Brown got the 25 million average for the extension years that opened up the floodgates because now Terry McLaurin now depot Samuel now became Metcalf can go to their team since they were not talking about Tyree kill the body, talking about someone in my draft class that different. So then it was only a matter time for the other three players to get paid and they all basically have the same contract. All for those God in our Browns. Only one left but that's an interesting phenomenon. So now you know I did ask for cure. Rookie contract receiver has great ammunition working to find out you were to find out where the Chiefs and Packers because they took draft picks in Space over there superstar receiver and B's receivers (Rogers and Patrick McCombs for lesser quarterbacks and lesser teams.

Serena find out to be a good experiment.

I think it is to I I'm I'm really anxious to see where this goes because of where I think the position is in terms of where you put your put your money for your Space so Andrew, thank you again for being a part of you always make me feel more educated about what I'm talking about. Chris Brockman has a quick question for you before we let you go with Chris Andrew.

We always appreciate you coming on the news of today like what you make of Rochon Smith. His trade request and how teams are to be paying linebackers going old into work right so in my day with holdouts and holdouts never worked or didn't work.

You come to You do the true marks on much.

I'm just here for don't get finding your practice.

It works for Jim Ramsey work for TJ while he worked for the guys we just talked about this year work for Samuel and Metcalf and Dion to Johnson.

It has worked for Smith.

So what I didn't know till today that he is representing himself.

He weeded out some things that are a veteran agent would say which is this deal may sound good but backloaded and full of all these tea escalators which require his caliber never should have take. So the hold in is not working because the bears are negotiating at the top level I think he's embarrassed the Bears. I just wonder if there step up in Panama market deal because trading in my will.

I don't know how you trade your best player their jurisdiction. That can't do that.

So this is an interesting one to watch and fascinating that Rochon has enough savvy to sort of recognize deficiencies that deal started bears are in for a roller coaster of the season. I feel like it should be fun to watch and that division of the division. You are part of for for some time and again, thanks for joining all be on the lookout for for everything that you put out there Andrew Brandt, thank you for joining us and trying all the pleasure yes or well he's he's really good at making it simple in my mind so I can understand and that's what he does really well right derived questions around the legality of everything the way I had heard it, is that there is no way that DeShawn Watson can play early. I don't know when Lisa get the injunction. But secondly, I don't think he's failed to it if if he gets a longer suspension. When this happens I don't remember last time I was here, but I talked about in terms of precedent and what major league baseball did with Trevor Bauer right a guy that had a civil one civil assault allegation. No criminal charges filed, there were photos there were text messages things like that that helped evidentiary wise, but to full year suspension by major league baseball right and I I use that as an example of what the NFL was possibly looking for in terms of what they expected. The amount of accusations of what that meant and I thought early on that he was given be gone for the entirety of the season. So when the six-game suspension came down from the initial arbitrator I was. I was shocked, especially with the language that was in her decision right egregious predatory, no remorse, no accountability. Those types of things. I think that's where Roger Caddell now it and out going wrong. I'm not any been a fan of Roger Caddell of the NFL right. I just know I think they are what they are there a moneymaking machine in an institution and a propaganda machine learning to do what they do. But there is something to do this. There's a double standard.

Of course, because Robert Kraft got none of this spotlight, Daniel Snyder for the spotlight outside of it certainly hasn't gotten it from the NFL. So as players and has a union of the players, you have to be stringent with your backing of one of your players in this moment.

That's it. This is exactly the reason you are part of the union and the NFL PAs.

You're back in the self and I will see how it plays out. But I wouldn't expect this Cleveland Browns team to see DeShawn Watson anytime the season I and if you do, you can have up your seasons can be very difficult when you have a really good opportunity. The first four weeks.

If you will be per sec can play well enough, but when he splitting time right now with DeShawn Watson, which I think is absolutely absurd. You get the guy ready to be your start is those first five or six games are winnable not beaten. These guys are right now he's got, but those first five or six games.

They are winnable for this team because there's enough talent. If you have a guy ready to roll right Joshua Dobbs and Josh Rosen ready because of Jacoby percent goes down both Jordan have to play so the fact that DeShawn wants is on the football field taking away first-team reps from Jacoby percent.

Right now I think is putting in doing your club at the service and if you're Kevin Stefanski.

I mean the guy talks about in glowing terms of having DeShawn Watson was a me, but I mean you can Stefanski got it may love the idea did that have DeShawn Watson as quarterback but you can't love being put in this position right now Jimmy hasn't even said here you go you know deal with this. It's just it's so it's so Cleveland you know I hate to say their systemic issues when we talk about teams. I may be a guy that is cliché with that some of these teams until I see something different. I'm always good to feel the same way about something what yes think the thing DeShawn plays this year I in a weird way do I think it ends up getting doubled to 12 games. So he's back in week one, 13 or 14 depending on when their bye week is, and then he plays last few games of the season and then the Browns Cleveland.

They all hope it just kinda goes away.

We forget about it as we had in 2023 but where the team could be after 12 games this year with a four and eight of a 500 at best, and then DeShawn comes in to try to win out to get you into the playoffs. I just don't see a situation where Cleveland started the off-season was so much hopes they had better Super Bowl odds and the bangles who were in the game last year. I just don't see them being any type of factor this year to schedule again.

The first six games. I was talking about right at Carolina which is a huge rock is to be against Baker Mayfield right. The Jets are coming off a tough year loose McKay Becton.

That's a winnable game Pittsburgh. We don't quite know the quarterbacks can be right. It's at home, they always play well against Pittsburgh at home late Thursday. It's sure weak short week Atlanta.

Atlanta is a rebuilding mode in August charges. Okay that's not win that game and then New England, which is something will get into probably next segment I want to talk about doing little bit him in the conversation around Matt Jones in the offense of system there is is a little bit disturbing is is a Patriots fan. I'm assuming you are are you reading tea leaves or are you just waiting to see it really play out. I not great Bob at the moment, not drain. Find someone for six weeks. Right five of the six are winnable. I would say now can I do with Jacoby percent will see but I guarantee you right now you should be getting the reps and not DeShawn Watson so we'll see how it all plays out. Let's get into that a little bit, get into your New England Patriots. Some of the conversation pieces have been happening over the last two days who's going to be the offense of coordinator. How is Matt Jones going to develop is to be protected is the other weapons.

All those things are the patriots now resigned to the fact that it was Tom Brady and not Bill Belichick and his team is now heading towards a seller of the AFC East will find out next year on the rich eyes and show I'm finally thought of ritual bareback back everybody to the rich eyes, and shall rightly fear filling in for Rich alongside TJ Jefferson Michael Dell to follow Chris Brockman just spoke with Andrew Brandt around the Cleveland situation when you guys feel about the question I asked him love to get your opinion around scene wide receivers get the bag of money this year, especially ones like you pointed out on rookie contracts still right.

I went back and did some research since 2014 no Super Bowl champion has had a wide receiver number one as high think they been light fifth or six down the line in terms of Allocation to their roster and now that's going to change significantly if there is a team that wins at their house in the Cooper cup to go back and when it this year. That would be a different scenario right because he got that bag of money, but you guys know all know that during the draft time I talked about UK we draft to eBay if you can find wide receiver in the draft will do it as you get them for the Tennessee Titans scenario, they trade away Ajay Brown and I draft draft a Guy Named Trl. in Berks and Arkansas very similar type very similar spot. The amount of money that Ajay Brown is making in year one is the Entire Contract Trl. in Berks in Tennessee so this is a decision that's been made by teams and I love this point about what does intensity look like what does Green Bay look like with with getting rid of two of the best wide receivers in all the legal drafting sky more in Christian Watson. Those are two guys in our plays. Turns out Romeo Dobbs may be the actual one that fills in who's looking really special and in greenback covered him a bunch in Nevada. Boy he was. He was something special there, but what you guys thought process of on on the amount of money in the marketplace is been cracked by the wide receiver position sure TJ. Maybe you can speak on this to after after I talk about were very pro-guys getting paid on my time so as well get your money. You've earned it. You've worked hard to this point, you deserve every single dollar that you get.

It doesn't mean that's going to help your team when right now, as we've seen in the past like I think out of were still waiting on a quarterback who is kind of broken the bank for that team to go on to win the Super Bowl. I don't know if that's really happened. Maybe only once in the last decade or so, but I just give you look at these situations, it's just a lot of my wondering if like wide receivers get to be like running backs where it's just the way the offenses are and how complex they are. The way these coaches are able to scheme up guys and get them in space and and really maximize their potential and what their skill set is you can, just plug in place like everybody liquid New England did for a very long time.

They were able to just use any type running back Corey Dillon was kind of the best running back. They really had during the Super Bowl runs at they had in the first go around. The second go around. They never really had a top-flight wide receiver they were paying Randy Moss all all a bunch of money want your money now. He was on a very team favorable friendly deal. He was also looking to prove something that interaction was Super Bowl with Randy Moss and so they just look at these teams. I'm wondering Green Bay never want when they want it is of the raters could be a favorite now. Rich loves the raters, but do they think they really know insuperable the planning division with a man get out of it.

Probably now I'm not sure.

It just I don't know if paying all these guys all this money ever really translates the winning it's the quarterbacks it's the left tackles at the defensive backs.

It's incidences defensive ends. Those of the guys you get paid.

No, those are the teams and end up winning who paid those players a I I'm on Miami such an interesting microcosm of what the marketplace is about right, because to your point, the running back room is full of solid players, but it's hugely by committee} is huge and that can be really positive for but they still quarterback on rookie deal and they have a new head coach, but they have a really really good defensive back and then they paid all his money to Tyree kill his neck to translate the wins. I have no idea.

Well, that leads us to your division. The AFC East right what happens to the AFC East Buffalo clearly at the top of that right now that food chain right they develop. They continue to hang around out III believe there there my Super Bowl pick this year when it went okay. Of course everything has to play out if they were not to class your note to self like nothing's changed. I can't afford it is totally fun 13 seconds away from my bigger question with with Buffalo was how have the house a coaching staff interested because they you. I got the rule changed that's on the address you fully understand one thing though in this is that they in the face of all the stress and pressure and everything faltered and I really haven't taken too much accountability for now. Maybe they have in the rooms with their players that something had to be addressed. Because what happens now when that type that may prove that in the most stressful press pressure filled situation.

They choked because I have done so many different things with 13 seconds right and they would've know what would you do not moment while I was like, what would you do me will that's what I get paid all that money for the bunnies. That's what the head-coaching coach invoice was to be about assistive apparently was Mr. me all the things that has to be worked out before the steam to be any good if they have psychological trauma format that it could be a long year.

Now the question is who falls after that right. Last year was not Jones New England get back to the playoffs.

They were embarrassed fully in the wild-card round top at Buffalo but now Miami has been on the precipice with Brian floors last year's getting in the playoffs are they a team that adds Tyree kill Jim and waddling hereto running back room a new head coach. What is that mean is this a team now that is always a pretty good success against the likes of New England are they the team that now makes the jump over New England. He made a comment to me during the break around. How could New England fall to the seller the ACs when I have the second is quarterback and in the division.

I would agree with you, I would agree with you on that question is, with all the concerns coming out of New England campus last week around who's going to be calling offense, a place what that look like and what Matt Jones is look like in this offense, especially 1111 drills over the last week, where's your biggest concerns is a fan first and then is maybe an analyst in terms of what they need to do and that to be successful was as if animated fire everybody right now Manhattan is the fans cut a knee-jerk reaction you're seen the tweets from Tom Kern and Mike Reese and these guys who cover the team that Matt Jones on his but every other. It would be honest but every single play. They can't block anyone were dropping passes were the routes are crisp.

It's like, it seems like it's the worst case scenario, it's a disaster.

I guess that's going to come in.

I it should be expected here in the first week of August when you have new coaches in place, you lose one of the best offense of coordinators in the NFL. Josh McDaniels is now head-coaching in Las Vegas is as we talked about it was him who was right there with Matt Jones. The whole time during his rookie year not asking Mac to really win the game just manage the game make a player to hear that. To help us get a victory. But to rely on the run game doing a really good defense last year expected events to be as good this season but as a fan is just super frustrating because like you see Mac Jones is the best rookie in the rookie class quarterback in the rookie class last year you expect him to make another kind a second year leap ugly scene just Herbert make Joe Burrell make in the last two seasons you excited in that aspect spent a lot of money in free agency. Get the Dante Parker and hear big physical receiver could be a number one team hasn't had in a long time and you read all these tweets from the guys a practice and it just seems as guys followings that's super frustrating I guess is a cortical analyst I'm just going to wait and see how it is I want to see how they look in the preseason. I want to see how guys regress between now and the end of the month before I really decide this guys following the steam is going six and 10, or as a bright spot as we go, nine, eight, 1070, speaking to the playoffs again. So that's kind of where I'm at right now yeah I have I haven't been buoyed by what we been hearing on this. I'm still a huge Bill Belichick fan and I believe that with his influence and how is going about his business is to find a way to feel the team and make them competitive, especially in this division so we'll see we'll see where were Chris Brockman isn't in once a week three week four when everything shall be rational about all of it very rational and irrational next hour will get more into the NFL side of things.

John Walton will join us at 1120 as well will be right back and resize and show mailing it's it's always in Bill we trust right but he's always been a defense guys talk with the defenses I really pay attention the offense because Josh, had that covered right now you here Bill is like with the offense of with the wide receivers is what the quarry is doing all this other stuff the offense and just like okay I don't Matt Patricia Joe judge doing right I don't for a moment, either think that Bill Belichick, Kevin conversations with these guys is a bad thing. I guide you never guys know so much football we're defensive coordinator for most your career a defense of money. You know what offense of players do that gives you the most problems. So a lot of times, defensive coaches and I feel like that he may feel this way in terms of when you Matt, Patricia, who was a wonderful defensive coordinator for him during his tenure there, non-Super Bowl, but not insuperable, but he knows he knows he can, but I don't know this is what worked against me.

I know that right right and those that and that's a rule telling me that guys never called place before suddenly Matt Patricia to call the place is here yeah I don't I don't get that at all like you, I don't know that you don't know that the language you don't know you know the conversation PIP.

I don't how do you not go on find an officer coordinator.

How is that how does that happen there. I just also don't get bringing back mean that there were good coordinators Joe judge was a special teams coach and Matt. Patricia was the defensive coordinator whatever Bill called them you bring these like failed head coaches back in your system and now you're putting them in charge of the offense with a young quarterback who was looking to make a big leap in year two, after he had a really good rookie season.

I just understand that is a is a fan for fans but it's it's difficult to see things like I married, I think back to my say no more football than we do, obviously, so maybe they do, it is 13 my second year going in the NFL right Kevin Gilbride and fire Jim Jones took the Hawaii job general manager about the death of the time, chose to bring in a guy by the name Mike Riley would never had a winning season at Oregon State menu had a guy just down the down the road at Washington state who had coached me to God and the Pac-10 is at success and the offense to the better your team. Why would she go with that guy you know. And of course we understand how that worked out mean I was I was the huge part of the problem the wrong but still you wonder why you met me make this type of types of decisions I will back your rich eyes and show you're a peacock I'm finally filling up the rich will be about for the real story behind some of wrestling's biggest moments something to wrestle with Bruce Prichard and Konrad Thompson to all somehow opponents much of Ms. Natalie in a conversation where is Andre free motion.
