Enjoy it. Sure, but most of all, thank you for listening and for choosing The Truth Podcast Network. This is the Truth Network coming to an entrenched masculine journey time to go to be more transparent on the topic of sit back and masculine journey starts here masculine journey after hours and we got your topic this week. You know I yours. It's kinda Andy's. It's kinda everybody's but were thrown at you at sports warning, and it comes from the idea last week we talked about leftfield and then ending up by catcher for a while. Then he got to leftfield that he got loaded left out and then some about being will go there some about on the bench. You know I was thinking of Danny's comment, but it is after hours. I just figured now we will know you probably still shouldn't. And if you want to know the time that you have to reach out to us on Facebook and in will have Danny reply you that way he gets blast Danny about his position in football when he was younger.

Yeah, this is a question come to boot camp and asking yeah that's a great degree thinking: left the regular show we we we shared some of her stories.

And then we really kind of were mean to herald another. That's a surprise to you that we picked unheralded really set a whole bunch of stuff about the story he wanted to share whether it was true or not.

We don't know, but we did let him respond and so never going to give Harold a chance to respond to his sports, wounding that radio show wounding and retired about a start. And no, it wasn't Jim Graham. It wasn't Jim her is a Carolina arrow.

I do know that you get that into will actually Martin stories about a wound that I got but it turned out good.

In 1960 I was a freshman at Auburn and had a couple really good friends that were going to teach me how to play tennis.

One of them at a high school classmate who was not a friend of mine and he became even less is semester progressed because I was just trying to learn that anyone have a racket I had to borrow a racket trying to play and he would smash the ball through my face and just laugh like crazy. My temperament didn't deal too well that kind of treatment. So when the quarter ended and I got home I put my bags down and I asked my mother if I could borrow $20. So I hitchhiked over to Montgomery about 50 miles away and I went through serval sporting good stores to left on the racket.

I wanted about myself.

A racket and a can of three balls and I was working the second shift at a local plant tennis court was unpainted it was asphalt.

The net was hurricane wire fencing.

It was nobody to play with, so for two or three hours a day earlier because I want work and look forward have to I would be at the tennis court and I would serve until had all three balls on the same side and then I go serve back the other way to a ground stroke I would get about midcourt slammed the ball hard jump over the net and turnaround hit the shot back. So in the fall when I went back to Auburn.

I was ready. I had learned how to serve good. I was actually place in the can do different spots on the court and hidden so I put my bags down the head across campus on Johnson.

He had joined the Army. I never saw him again, but I could but I could beat my buddies, so the fact that he treated me the way he did and wounded my ego so badly. It gave me the impetus to learn how to play sub came up pretty decent tennis player and I was pretty quick on my feet so I was pretty good for a while since Jim's not here you had thrown the big word impetus yet how and where there were Catholic Atlantic appreciate you and I have seen the Flintstones of the balls must really hurt because they were laid out.

I think that what they do.

Harold that that is a great way that that story ended. You know that the Indian still continues with applicable today right and instantly learned in tennis, you probably yet logically yeah the Lord's been good to me is a lot of things I can't do things that once I could lift with no trouble or heavy to me now, but I'm still pretty quick on my feet even at age 80 well because we promised in the last show, there is the other warning of the young lady that you saw when your jumping the net so okay I one of the things that happen one day I was there on the tennis courts at Auburn and it was a very attractive young lady on the court next to me and I'm going up and I had the habit of jumping over the net switch sides which of you if you now. Harold is quite a feat on the it's over his head ran at me like that he get there.

Okay I'm going up over the net switch sides and I happened to look over at the young lady was backwards and I cut my foot on top of the net place first row and so that's the story they really wanted to hear any era.

But that's hard to follow. Read it as it is, did you jump the net that it was an intense blend your brave. I would've told Robby to go pound sand. When I would bully exactly so before I get my clip.

I want to share with someone similar to what hair was saying so Unida all use a big word auspicious start to my sports career. That means not not exactly great one okay thanks you never know my heavenly father later today I will be a return on answer but so lived out of country. Nobody around the blade sports with so I'm out there in. So I go inside and play them like five you know it's my first year of the kids been playing that they asked me what I wanted to play. I was like batter my dad had him prepare me at all for this job. The first game I swung at all the balls and didn't swing any of the strikes had no idea what is doing so I felt terrible. I didn't enter five you know I'm just trying to figure things out.

But I really serve myself in the sports after that and I knew that I got validation from that in and it's something that you know you can you get this feeling. I think it's somewhat of is not really to trace the data validation comes from that, but it does help us grow in who we are. Sports gave me a lot. But you know we all start out with stories of just that you know of feel like sports is the answer to our warrior heart at that age and stuff and you can invest too much and it fell on my clip and I would play football and in high school and I love remember the Titans and is a complement compilation clip and the first one is when you know Coach Boone is addressing the team when he first comes in. He's talking to PD and PD's. Basically this cocky guy and he, you know, because I'm out on his on his pride and kind of takes the fun out of the game and then then there's another part where Coach Boone is really calling the team to perfection and then also at the end it's really when the coach the team comes together and there's leaders that take over the breaking down of the team and explain that the clip we get how it pertains to me will you back sure units explain compilation and just in case it is a big word. I use as a love football boastful is think she smiled anything you think football is still fun yes sir yes no uncertain. It was fun though it is no, not right now is not fun anymore, not even a little bit know things that you think is no. Zero funds. All right, listen about coach you about how much fun this season to come to work. We will be perfect in every aspect of the game you drop a pay as you want them to miss a block assignment you want to my former football and I will break my foot open your John Brown nine Ponce and then you will run a mile perfection and you know the story is great what Coach Boone did with those boys brought them together is a black-and-white team is amazing and there was a lot of growth and you know those guys went on to be in a really you know all of had a good story to go and read history of it. But you know a lot of those things you know I had some coaching like that and those coaches a lot of times would pull things out of you, but sometimes that there were things that they said or did that were not good for your heart and not being a baby or anything like that but the main you know you could encourage somebody in such a way that you didn't mean them in step number coaches. It did that there were coaches were encourage me of my head coach was awesome Christian man really strong in his face and but you know that sometimes, just that that thing were hit. Coach called for perfection that sounds great but you can take those things with you the rest your time and you tried it to live up to perfection's type of standard and that could be very you know were not perfect were not in a live perfect excellent yes perfect. Some know and it can give help. I mean, it could force you into trying to live out a a a life that really is not possible and then really the thing that got me the most probably was my senior year I did. I didn't have any talent but I did work hard at night.dad had given me that he had to encourage me that all must time in sports and and I guess you know I was good I could do that, you can always work hard enough that it wasn't really that talented and in doing so I got the click coaches attention.

He was gonna make me a leader on the team put me up for Capt. and he asked to break down the team and there's a process to it and I was just I was not comfortable in front of people.

He had me go speak to the booster club and I said like three words and ran off the stage like an idiot and I just wasn't used to be in front of people are leading people and all those things. Those were woundings. I wouldn't consider them wounding's all my life until I get in.

Listen to really the masculine heart message and it's just, you know those things are still ones to you know I had some success in sports, but I have a lot of failure a lot of disappointment, but there is a lot of growth that comes from Matt, but you know you again there was woundings that made me who I am now thinking of you think that would you said something that I want to make sure that these are my thinking it would clarify that if you're getting your primary validation from anything other than God. That's wrong right right you know you can you validation from other things that just can't be your primary is yours I can be the thing that sustains you right right your boss gives you accolades for doing a good job that's fine you can fill validation from that but they can't be what drives your behavior drives you to do different but you can feel you can be content, addicted to that feeling today can and when you walk around and then when you don't get that then your senior what let you know your fall off a cliff and that's where I lived a lot of my life. At times, so again that's part of the wounding part of the it's so good to understand, what was going on.

The neck is a sure thing didn't understand it. Part of my life of you, even my sports woundings played end of my marriage or hot when I about things at work and that kind of absolutely, absolutely waning a story for us to think of anything I can let you think smart. It's only been like in our good okay you and I share a lot of the same stuff there as far as the dad not shown of the sports know. Also, like Rodney, unlike Danny originally had a nice horse and remained in but it never really bothered me in the sense of never took offense that I need to. He was never there seems like your daddy was always home and means you drop me off. Later on he he told me that he always thought that I didn't want their told otherwise and in fact I'd asked him multiple times, but I think EE also understood who he was as a dad and can you talk to some of the emotions that her father operates under they see things a little differently, feeling the hurt.

Since I could see how it is probably a wise decision that he didn't come as objects, as I was I was a very you very competitive $0.79 as of the right word for said it was good. I understood stated more now. I didn't and never took the offense was hurt by answer, then he can just twist anything right. His lady said to people enhancing experience in the end uses it differently in one person get to class another whole life and not really making out in another person. It's devastating and such a stall with the enemies able to do with it actually teed up my next clip.

Thank you for sending it. Yet this this this could this is remember the Titans into shore.

About 12 seconds when I first watched the I didn't have any boys that were playing sports. My daughters were playing softball and doing pretty well and so there wasn't really any conflicts and in sports I because they were young I and then I really thought this dad was just a jerk and sort of play this clip and it is son Alan, who'd been a starter for one of the coaches. Now the could the teams integrate and he's no longer the best option at the dad's not understanding why he's getting pulled out of the game and I want you just to listen to this and we come back and talk about something I've lived through the last few years is so and I watched it again this last weekend. I remember the Titans. It's been a while since I've seen it. I was watching the father and I still don't entirely agree with you, but what it reminded me of as just having gone through this last few years of assignment was playing his senior year of college football and a son playing senior year of high school football and through a series of events there coaches choosing to start younger players because the younger players were the future and the seniors were really going to do much good anymore right you know both of them had different journeys that just watching how hard they work, how much they wanted to play and knowing that they could play because they both had opportunities to play manipulative played well. I bet this watching them hurt. As a father, I felt those feelings and I wanted to stand up and yell. I want to write a letter. I wanted to do something to defend my child that granted in one of his 22 years old at the time.

Many of the others almost 18. As a parent you never give up that desire to try to protect your kids when you think there's an injustice to them in on it just kinda broke my heart and reminded me that sometimes you know you can be wounded by watching others get wounded and feeling helpless and in the midst of it is really cool lien from my point of view him hundred 19 Psalm verse I believe it's 126 where it says and is in the ion section meeting. This is giving you what God's vision is for things or or and and the psalmist turns to Mrs. it's time Lord to work. It's like I remember that scene in the lion King.

It is time psych time for you to do some God is to do something about this right your your kids not to game. I remember trying to same thing. My son played college basketball at do something right and it's interesting how he follows that by saying and he says that they make void by law. The next two verses are therefore versus not unlike Paul would say many times he says therefore I steam your commandments above gold more than fine gold. In other words, Lord, you got to do something, giving him the position of the larger story like this is not about my son, and is not necessarily about me or how I feel right this minute it it is to some extent about how I raise my son how he sees his father is God in all this. But how do we get this picture back to the right picture of what is the larger story here. What is going to matter.

20 years from now, 30 years from now, from a standpoint of larger story and then after he says he steams her commandments.

In other words, do what I can do. And then he says I steam all thy precepts concerning all things to be right and I hate every false way so he's saying is you're going to show me through prayer and through studying your word what the right thing is to do in this situation and often you find yourself on the bed like your image here in the stands in your your heart is screaming God do something. The cool thing is if you think about it if you if you have that mindset you're actually got you're asking God to get involved and then opening up to okay God give me an interpretation of what what it is that I would do that would be the right thing. Under these circumstances, which I don't understand because it is time it is time to do some and I was reminded about their father not be there. Dad was at every practice thinking every game in my lackluster baseball career and one of the things in that that over the years God is shown me is that I thought I was disappointed because I was and that he would love me as much and therefore you put that on the father is you know God loves me but I just disappointed him so much and so it does do that eclipsing you but I know now that you dad didn't love me less because the what the baseball player he love me because I was his son in whom he is willfully utilizing an earlier Harold when we were talking about Jim not being here and he can't defend himself. He has he scheduled with you the pickle ball thing that he will on the air you challenge you to a game.

I'm just wondering if he's ever stepped up and say let's go and get that schedule know we don't have a schedule now is even brought it back up again no not not once know. So are in my hearing that you're calling him out for a challenge now is that what I'm hearing your voice play will enable you to pad the court and especially Jim sighed he's you wear a helmet. Okay yeah just protect his head as he falls again that we miss you Jim Lewis you're here and we'll see you next week. God willing that that as we got a few more minutes left in the you want chime in on the top right. It sounds like you got something. I think that the that that way. Missing you something.

Sure I'll make something up now and yet that I can post a little while. I just love this topic because sports was so big of my life is all talked about it. I played sports my entire life. You don't even out of college and just Planning doing stuff and saw all my identity in that in always my the wounding in your nonsports life you know of not being important so I discounted all he said will, if I really try hard. I could be even that much more so than a dull expect even more and I can't live up to that. So I'd I'd I'd only try enough to be so good and not go above and beyond because in every sport a look back at Mike. I like to try it so much harder done so much better, but I just had some natural gifting. It was fortunate you know the new black people look at as a will.

Why did you take that news outlet that Jan I saw other kids yelled out work me like my coverlet.

Damien said that he cannot work me, but I got the talent because I was a big fish in a small pond in when you are going to that you keep looking back you like man I could've done more, I could've been better to just keep putting yourself down the enemy always finds a way with your good writer. Bad it something he's gonna find the angle is going to find all this how I can hurt him inside and wounded and Robby made the point in before the show were talking and maybe sometimes it's it's harder on the kids that are successful in sports because you know for so many of them.

My son was also very gifted and in basketball and heat on my goodness. But what happens is, it becomes their eye becomes their identity as you describe and you know at some point in time. I love the way Randolph Childress put it this brilliant statement he made to me on time is document his radio show was no basket.

You may love basketball, but basketball does not love you. It'll take everything that you have to offer and it will give you back nothing because it is in fact a mind right has. There's no life there. You know, there is life in God and there is life in like we see the movie Hoosiers.

Think about it. What was the life that was there was the team right it was the relationship between the coach and the shooter and and and Jim in and everybody you know getting to this point of of of coming together as a in unity, but basketball itself. Man it's it's a dangerous thing and you see unity seen over the last 5567 years where athletes especially in pro football you will get out of football and they have no identity. After that, in some unforeseen committed suicide interned other things in on it. Is that problem that when you take that getting my value getting my identity from this and that's all you ever have been.

What happens when it's no longer available to you.

You no longer good enough to play, you no longer wanted you no longer you not have what it takes at that level you know you just left with a bigger hole but the good news is that all those weather that you kick the can player the kid that played well. It's all seem to be designed to push you back through enough pain though. Look for God look to God for. If you go there. That's a whole thing is designed to do to you have to be willing to take that risk and step into that place you had to say okay got a walk with you in the valley of pain even though it's going to hurt and I know it's not going be fine, but I do know that when I come out on the other side it's can be so worth very interested in take that faith journey with him instead. Pastor fear and further the faith, recessing youth asking this week.

What can I do this step closer to you further from fear and walk in faith with you. Talk with you next. Harold calls at that game. This is the Truth Network
