Masculine journey is filled with many twists and turns. So how do we keep from losing heart while trying to find a way life feels more like a losing battle than something worth dying for, grab your gear, request band of brothers will serve as the guides recall masculine journey masculine journey starts here now for this is Rodney hosting.

I do have Sam here with me, but Sam just gave his daughter away a couple days ago congratulations Sam, I know it was a great night family and everybody so this congratulations was it was a very, very emotional, rewarding, exciting time. Very tiring. Hence Rodney sitting as God's house to get. It is amazing to have brownies that will be here for you that you got it taken away or we go. Here's Rodney yeah and in typical masculine journey fashion.

The man he came up with the topic is not here tonight, but at least he told us at the same time he tells about the topic that he was in the year so I given at least that much that he was forthright right away yeah and then his explanation didn't provide total clarity of the topic.

Ghettos kinda knew all of us. I know was clear in his head. I'm sure it was clear in his head that feel right now.

I had scanned them out anyway. It it's it's kind like I think I got most of provide partial clarity. I was being generous and that's where I know I finding something on it and then now any live click here little bit later that we can deftly do to help everybody in this topic so anyone else what the topic actually included so as Sam always does the topic of self nullification rallies, one of his descriptions of that is like how we are from the same cities. It was like mad, so let him let his weight on the sign examining the terribly hot sun. He was with best yeah that was my dated so yeah so it's self nullification and one of the things that I looked up and started reading about trying to figure out what okay Robby what is it that you have for us and basically talking about submission and surrendering all your thoughts and desires basically to God, so it's not being selfish anymore which I find very hard to do but that's the trajectory were gonna go with today show and try to make sure that we aren't presenting ourselves as being selfish, which finally very hard to do right now because all unthinking others. Robby, what did you do so to start off of the clip here from Talladega nights because we we might start our little laugh tracks lease with United with Rob is not here with you in the laugh track as he always lets start that way but in Talladega nights you get a man whose very prideful, very American, very all about himself and so someone comes into his life and basically disrupts everything so Ricky Bobby is a NASCAR driver that if you eat first or last is a slogan and he's got this Formula One driver that pops in at the bar and this is the scene where he first meets John Gerardi comes his nemesis and Robby Bob Ricky Bobby thinks he's all that and going to show Mr. Gerard a lesson in what you hear in the middle of this when you're little to fisticuffs after he says welcome to America as he throws a punch at him and then John Gerard puts a mental block that has his arm in a very awkward position where he can easily break it and then there's this long discussion about do I just say I like grapes are not which is which is cut out, it would take forever, but it's hilarious. Listen to and then finally Ricky says nothing to say it and you'll see the result of that, my name is racing, driving just like you said, I am. I am the greatest one is been following your career with great Torres to reseal. I can't understand a word he said told to eat some peanut butter some dog thing about a few quick UI earrings use my excellent IMS is a French. The we know we are not French were American. Here in America greatest country on the planet to be ideas, you to do for you over there struck student throughout the welcome to America medial let go of me Formula One jazz nut job like I know you are scared by different, I will get you, but for most, I want you to say I don't to see Ricky. These colors don't run. Thought about what you go ahead and break my own. Why do you want me to break so badly because you don't understand liberty, you understand freedom you put a crack in my arm like a crack in the Liberty Bell here make just between you, me okay for you know is a consummate he did give you pretty decent out here. Call see as you wish only actually did it so that's what happens to us when we get selfish and prideful and we just won't give in. We don't get into God and we get what we ask for now, you get what you asked for. That's where John Gerard gave money asked where you want your number okay fine, I'll break it you go Scripture somewhere right pride happens before the fall just a little before that one is this cute couple. Certain Old Testament it was in their Proverbs okay thank you thank you I know is in there.

It is to know where it was for your benefit because last time I made reference to a scripture in the New Testament.

I appreciate your hurt my feelings anything that I was very read to you that day so yeah that is well-deserved.

That was well-deserved. Yeah, deftly pride has a way of knocking us down a peg right in with the self nullification is God working in your heart where you don't have to get knocked down a peg in my some misunderstanding, I think that's where were at with our understanding and if you want to anyone. She set up your new Netflix would get the definition out there so we can all kind of thing to come together on this term. Yeah, there's not much set up to some rabbis talking about self, no nullification. I think this is were Robby got it is more from the Hebrew background and that they do a good job I think of explaining their United just their ideas of what self no nullification is my name is you yeah this always stresses the internal self nullification for your self-esteem to constantly so something that I saw very recently, there was that article featured article in a magazine called Dixit he said the hair, which I recommend everybody bring it into your home just an incredible magazine and that they did an article about the encounter with the bond which is program that would bring college students from campus to crown heights and give them a shot. Upon experience and immersive experience. Anyways, one of the facsimiles there and that article was somebody wrote the program for the entire Shabbos like similar to like the program we have for the retreat was one page was handwritten. It was all the schedule for the day for everything are going along with the topics the names of the topics of the lectures. One of the lectures was called Delhi – which is specific term in Hebrew and English and said the quest for nothingness, and then that this circle be made. No other notations on the entire page, but he circled the word nothingness? Like that's what you describe self nullification as the quest for nothingness didn't say what the proper definition is I would say something like this getting rid of the ego, or that the false sense of self is to make room for the true self quest for nothingness. The quest to become one with the everything the all or to put it cyclically when one more sentence self nullification is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less.

I really like Debbie because it identifies with what he stated there was getting rid of the false self in an embracing the truth after we talk about that a lot in the masculine journaling. John Eldridge speaks about that quite a bit himself to me is I'm I'm going out here. I'm trying to get life for myself and my myself identified way of what's comfortable to me and what my background in history, you know, pushes me towards instead of saying okay, I found this wonderful person God, and him and allow him he knows me best and will allow him to come in and give me more direction and take up his life that he has for me and I walk it out that way and I think that second part to talk about. Also very key. It's it's not thinking as myself is less of a person is right. It's about thinking about myself less often right that the world doesn't revolve around me right that you having things in the car. Pop proper perspective as well as sitting inside that false self that false identity tour guide can help you find your true identity and I think it's Ashley thinking more of yourself is when you put it in proper context that you are God's child, now you are here in his family. He's he's for time began.

He chose you to know him and what what better thing is, or that I mean that that really results you as a person and where you should be to where you should want to give things over to God.

Yeah it's it's the difference between the two words son write you.

I don't want to be the SU and that the world revolves around the planets revolve around but to be the SON right into live in that very well done Sam. I think one of the issues is that we need to go back and realize all of our problems stem from one who would not do self nullification. Satan had the pride that elevated himself where he wanted to be above God. And then we can say what happened after that.

So what happened Harold had a very financially. I got nothing, so we got the game coming up the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. Great time for you to prepare yourself in your mind to go into the Thanksgiving season to go to radio masculine journey.org to register, please. What if one weekend wasn't out to you now and frustrated all basic training designed to give men permission me how God made passionate based on John averages wild at heart. Experience four days purpose for time to come after and perhaps reawaken dreams and desires uniquely placed to hear masculine Coming up November 18-21 masculine journey.org and register today is my son Eli talk about ways he held his smile smiled@himasfacebook.com and click the donate masculine journey.org and find me.org and you okay so this is a handy bringing you back. I guess the new rule is as if you've submitted about picture yet open second part of the show so I think that clip though that was always like that song it's always home is not about who you are is about who he is and really that's what were talking about here again, and even gets to the end of the song says of the flower flower quickly fading. It's that whole thing of you know we are created in the image of God but we are you know we are best that is deteriorating. We are, we get our identity from him and that brings value to our lives through that but that you know you get the self out of the way you nullify the self and you become, you know what he's created you to be not very far down the flower path, but I am deftly fading gaining what you have for us well to think that Ricky Bobby inspired some spiritually, scares me just a little bit of the in Philippians 2 which is in the New Testament for salmon and this is who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men, Jesus, and you are here is God in the flesh who had no reputation modified. He was slandered he was, but he took on that form and walk it out as an example to send you then get a better example of that.

Then you is not about me because in the Christian in our Christian culture was taken to be alive. Gotta be a lowly worm. I think that that's not the heart of God toward us, it's the heart of it is that what happens to me really doesn't matter in a sense calls my heavenly father is going to look after me if I just walking in obedience to him as a child again since you brought that up being a warm when I was looking up the self nullification look at the definitions of things that nature. One site that I can choose kind of explain some of us and went to into some things that I had couldn't comprehend things is honestly just himself and our site. I'm aware that only some of this but deftly for the Scripture part when they said in Genesis. Genesis 1827 I am but dust and ashes. So it's like that's all we are no knife Moraga think women go in the first sentence out something about the club to which is your shell, your outer shell which is a were just dust.

That's what were made from and that's what we shall return to write and also you talk about the worm soma 27 is I am a worm and not a man it's just trying to figure out where we are so you weren't you going to eat eat her flesh off of us, things of that nature just is just were part of the world were just not we didn't create anything. We didn't come up with this. We didn't know make the world everything that we do in the world takes things that God is given to us and we redo them in a way that makes a car that gives us air-conditioning which we all are really enjoying this this wonderful hot day. But things of that nature. We take things that he created and we use them in very creative ways because he gave us the ability to create from him the new talk about clutter right. It's weird how when you say Hebrew word I get it and retain it.

When Robby does display glasses right away. Maybe it's Rabbi right now is that in Robby's I do retain it-ish but know this, this world right it says your identity is the outer shell how you will you know what shape you are.

If you're overweight or underweight. Whatever it is your height be all those things right.

The world is all focused on the outer shell. Your identity is not found there. The world says it is in truth, the identities found internally right in that relationship with God, and those of the things that matter at the end of the day and on. I think that that's where you know once it's this is all gone and wrong worm food and that kind of thing. We still have our identity in God. That remains forever. And maybe that's her Robby want to go on some of it yeah will find out next week when he when he corrects us. If we come in working it down on the air next week.

You know you been corrected by the rabbi yet so begin that that's who can reach into us right is sexy rate set up. Sam is is Jesus and the next clip is a scene from the chosen. When he reaches Simon so we all know about Simon becoming Peter and become of the rock that before then is a mess and in the chosen. Basically what's happening here is the EF.

Both Simon and Andrew out fishing because they're in dire straits because they're behind on their taxes intact. Matthews after the tax collector and then you have Zebedee with James and John.

They said okay will go out fishing with you because he explained where their situation was how dire it was okay will help you will go out all night and fish with you. They come rolling into shore and you get this look on Angie's face like is that who I think it is and then finally Jesus turns around and looks at his like oh it's him it's him and what Jesus is doing is teaching that some of this students there on the shore and anyone see you sir boat and this is the scene were thereafter going to tell them to cast out to the side of the boat and this laboring in this huge hall done even break the net and actually they have a boat full of fish and then that's when Simon breaks down so that's weren't this clip up and let you listen to Amanda goes from. Now I don't have time for you, Jesus, to you get to hear is me ask a favor. I'm thinking these people independently that having trouble getting to spend on your book. Yes, thank you. I need to go.

I'm sorry no time for this stay a few moments, Doug. I have some me every single just a few moments chase you is the Messiah.

These numbers I can make sense to some others. The patient is on for today. I have some business to attend with my new friend put that down. I don't have a clue. If you feature we've been doing this all night doing my father is God.

I if I found me and I have rates so we waited so long. We believe in anything you finally were asked to do the following nullification I tell you it were never perfect at it. We can't maintain it every second of our lives, but those moments that we do have that we do surrender some of the best moments you've ever had in your life is when you can Ashley say in that moment right now I'm not trusting myself what I'm trusting you. Yeah, I think in the past similar stories to what we talked about before show but you know that I don't have any specifics right now but I know that there's a lot of time it to me this is pretty simple concept.

Pretty important to the gospel of you think you you control your life you you feel like your control in your life and you're trying to put provide direction and it's because it's the false self trying to get in you I know but what's best for me. I'm the master of my ship. I'm I'm a you don't think about it like this, but you actually walking out of were orphans. I can do all this thing you know all this stuff by myself and it there's a lot of disappointment you want made to do that you were not made to be satisfied for your own merit. Your own effort. You are made to two partner with you know God the father the son you are your partner made to partner with him and to actually you know follow that plan that they have for life and so much of our problem is the self, getting in the way when I went mentioned that topic. Robby had always heard it is dying to self, and it's not something easy to do and I talked about in the New Testament. One of the epistles about you know that were buried with Christ, and that you know we we actually do die to ourselves now. A lot of times our spirit dies or our spirit we die in a way that we are nearly identify with him. Let that flesh die. We continually allow it to get in the way of of our walk with him and you know therefore not really walking and self-motivation. Yeah, that was Paul also stated that they should solicit their yeah and occasionally wandering into you right you. Do you think about Paul talks about the old self has to die right into daily thing because it keeps wanting, wanting to rise up right into this old identity. This old way of seeing myself this old way the world dictates who they say I am keeps wanting to get in the way of who God says I am I an end so that you're exactly right Annie and it's it's right there that you we need to do that so that we can be in a place where we can self self nullifying part of the issue and I'll speak for myself.

The issue is that I don't say no to me.

And yes, the Holy Spirit is trying to tell me that I need where I need to go if I listen to him instead of me comping more often to get it right so I think your homework assignment is for us to go back and pray and ask God okay God where am I being selfish and that's also where do I self know where do I actually depend on you with birthing friend succeeding is again success breeds that confidence and success to go out and try to be more blisters would ask you to do that and please consider going to boot camp.
