This is the Truth Network when you saw the way they don't always surprised yes this is the Christian car garage, and I am well I should say Jesus put these two things together from me. I called the fifth right. I hate manure value. If you've ever seen. Back to the future you know you know and everyone back to future one, two and three. This is this bully. He's a very proud individual, and in each case he gets doused in manure so that becomes really critical when you think about were put that together with Bridge over troubled water which Paul Simon wrote it was done by Simon and Garfunkel sunk Simon and Garfunkel years ago which I left the line from that. When you think that it went when he actually says is, I will lay me down.

You know, and then there's this line in there since I will comfort you and I really think as I really have studied this week.

Kind of where Paul Simon got that song he was listening to gospel tracts in his apartment and seated and I going to Robbie when we get to the car Artwork into it. Okay, when we will. So Paul Simon was listen to gospel tracts over and over and over had this one song that he loved and and it had these different things. It sounded like this bridge over troubled water so that the cords in the temple of this song are not a normal pop song by anybody stretch the imagination fact Paul Simon didn't think it was good be it because it was too slow, but the lines were too simple but it had a beautiful melody to it that he really wanted to hear his friend Art Garfunkel saying so you know it's interesting thing that even though an injured in a here and in the second bumping you actually hear Paul Simon singing the second verse, which normally only hear art Garfunkel singing it and the reason I played that as I watch to hear how cool Paul sings it. But think about this in his own way. He laid down his own gifting so that his friend could sing what probably is their biggest instrument is kind of a cool thing that he is laying his own life down. See event. Robbie, where does assault come from all this week Jesus and I we had sort of a discussion that you know if you know your Bible. This may sound a whole like lot likely 13. In fact, you can follow right along with me if you take turn your Bibles to Luke 13 but Jesus said, Robbie, do you suppose the people in New York were so plagued by covert, 19 are greater sinners than most people in North Carolina and all because they suffered such things I tell you know.

But if you don't repent you will likewise perish, or those people in Spain or Italy. Do you think they send more than other countries. I tell you know. But if you don't repent you will likewise perish. And then he told the story says a man had a fig tree in a planet's vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it. Any didn't find any.

And he said to the vine dresser look for three years now I've come seeking fruit on this tree and I can find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground in the vine dresser answered him and said Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure benefits should bear fruit next year, well and good, but if not you can cut it down. You see that thing like I am. Personally, I don't know about you but I'm kind like Biff, I hate manure. If you've ever read Pilgrim's progress.

John Bunyan put it this way. He called it the Valley of humiliation. I am actually the value at Valley of humiliation. It is filled with when they were at the really cool and amazing word that Jesus, but Jesus used actually beginning admit beginning of Luke 13 as he says repent. Okay. In that word has altered its connotations to it as I normally think about it, but I began to study that word in here comes the other part of what we talk about today in Hebrew. Actually if you look at that word.

Strong's H 5162 and it's used hundred and eight times the word is in the Old Testament. But here's the shocker. 57 of those times it doesn't say, repent, if you read your Bible it says comfort. In fact if you look at the 23rd Psalm when you're pretty familiar with this verse.

I would guess word David says thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. But that word is the same word is repent, so you could say that David was saying. Your rod and your staff they repent me when you think about what a rotten staff are that way, but all the sudden you thinking wait a minute.

Repent means comfort how exactly does that work.

So let's think back fermentative a couple really good examples of repenting in the Bible that we can see that would line up with manure. So the first one I would mention is Jonah right it was going to go where he was told to go to Nineveh, but he got on the boat and I don't know if you noticed but Jesus kind of broke up his fallow ground. He put them on the ocean. It was a big huge storm and I mean things were all night was all messed up and then what they put them in the water and ended up swallowed by this fish and when he was in the belly that fish utility was covered with right manure on the same and that's when he began to repent and that's when he began to pray and guess what he got comforted God's bid amount on dry land next to you now. You know he's out there talk the Ninevites list to get the bush in all sorts of stuff, but the other prime example of being covered by manure and repentance is the prodigal son arraignments in the New Testament. In here this kid is sit there with the pig parts right and he's covered in the new. But when he decides that he's going to go back to his dad right. He gets a steak dinner on we were talking fatted calf here. This is awesome this is tasty. This is like oh my goodness you go from the total Biff treatment of covered in manure to like. I will comfort you.

You see the picture between right where where were headed here that in a lot of ways. Right now I don't know about you but I'm getting the maneuver treatment with the idea of him breaking up my fellow ground and covered me with the manure is that I'm a turnaround right go back to him for comfort and like Simon and Garfunkel talk about right. The are there to comfort you and like oh my goodness what a picture and today since we are social distancing.

I have my cohost Jerry Mathis is on the phone right so we're good distance away from each other. I Jerry came out to eat that where it were over achieving this morning so I'm I know you always were fascinated by my intros and how we can connect manure and bridge over troubled water.

But what you think think think a lot of right now so many way at and eloquently connect LDAP called the like. An example of that article finding that it certainly rings true today. So the good news is we got Ted Ryan from 40s and beyond with us to talk about the Mustangs sales awards is to become when I'm right after this break, we got Jerry really talking about the Jesus labor love, but I have to tell you about the time that I was covered in manure, probably better than anything I was.

I just lost everything off the dealership lost all my money, you know, we did not have enough money. This was only 10 years ago to pay the power bill to get the power turned on in the new house after our house had been whatever they call it repossessed it with whatever and so were this rental house or try to get the power turned on. The only way I can do that is to go through a newspaper and as I'm throwing newspapers. One day it's icy out there you're out there in the dark at 430 in the morning.

I remember slipping on the ice and coming right to the street.

So when I hear Paul say means that when you're on the streets right. I can remember laying on the street actually in tears and stirring up to Jesus. I've been a car dealer actually a millionaire weeks before and now I was laying there with a bundle of papers on the street bleeding because I'd slip and fall covered in the mirror like really has it come to this but fascinatingly fast when the comfort started born and I'm just saying that fifth treatment today on the Christians are guys Shelley got again for coming up the next segment of Jerry is with us. We need your calls about maybe your Biff treatment 866-34-TRUTH when you're in the Christian car guys show Biff treatment well that's kinda like being but also I will lay me down parts working talk a lot about how that ends up bearing much fruit and what that fruit might look like when it might look like in your life but in speaking of fruit right now we have Ted Ryan.

He's lived forwards Mustang division who has a huge announcement I may born a lot of fruit right to international arming one international one national awards for sales with a new Mustang and Ford Motor Company are not fired, but with yesterday was the birthday of the famous or not my thing that I iconic car and we did celebrate the big award. That's telling Fort Cooper but more importantly to be America's best selling sports car for the last 50 years because when you think of you think of a car that that means America needs muscle. It means the pony car. The Mustang is going to jump the mind so that selling sports car the last 50 years and are convinced that with that word that you use right there to beginning heritage and archives brand manager so it Ford Motor Company archive. Morning million photos and thousand video millions of documents including outcome on the other day people, but I could still get it archives welded shut down that the document it actually launched the Mustang back in 1963 on blue piece of paper because it was always Cassie executives attention.

It was signed by Lee Cogan. How cool I mean for those car people signed by Lee coca and sent to Henry for the second. I mean one element when the document to me. The Mustang is hard to card it doesn't need to work toward in front of it to know what it is. Just like bronco are just like on the dance apart and it standalone because it means something to everybody who has my father had about 289 yellow 1965 Mustang and he loved that car. Importantly, I came along and I was kid number two and he had to get rid of it a little bit after I came along, but you must say means so much to people who own them. There's hundreds of 300 Mustang clubs across America. So I'm very curious what did Lee say to Henry about the car like this is to be a good one let you know that what it one of the document actually said get ready.

A lot of it was market research. A lot of it was just what you would think in and the Mustang was one of the most researched cars because they could send that everything was changing.

Take yourself back to 1963 and the baby boomers a coming-of-age increase college education increased my money at their disposal of the freeway system is in full effect and one of the executive called it a market looking for car early people that were looking for card match their lifestyle and my thinking along its price to affordably $2400 entry-level Mustang and it was the car that barked a generation and we sold 450,000 of them. The first year and million of them within the first year and 1/2 so it caught the public's imagination just as it does today. One of the amazing things to me you think Mustang is American but since 2015 fortis sold 633,000 Mustangs and 146 countries around the world were exporting the Mustang and that the philosophy of the countries around the world's people wanted one piece of the American dream and what the pony car means to them. So Jerry's my townhouse today and Jerry's worked on plenty Mustangs in his life since we have this archivist right here when I think it's a cool name. What what does your mind speak you want to meet coca and move the question out because I really felt that the movie is done well versus Rory how accurate was that thing my standpoint it very accurate and also the first car I ever owned 68 Mustang convertible. Love that car. I loved the movie before versus bar movie was was fantastic board actually did not have a role in that movie are archived to provide the production company was still images of what it looked like as far as accuracy. I'll be generous and stated it was given the Hollywood treatment babies that the villain in the movie Leo guys alive and I would not want to be Leo PD family what the lady was depicted in that film the tickly sense.

He was generous, we have notes from them to Carol Shelby and Peter Holman Moody Moody, which was every company that was helping us build up the cars basically think I'll get you anything you want what you want, we can make this happen.

It wasn't as it was depicted in the movie, but you know any board for second and third movie generally covers we been one of four consecutive years in a row so the GT 40 itself was a masterpiece of design innovation, and it was a team of Holman Moody, Carol Shelby and Ford engineering and imagination and vision of the drivers got everything to bear good good action flick if you like cars and not just always keep in mind, I got a little bit of the artist actually history goes, I think that there's a note discount, listen to the names and what impact it's made on on Americana.

Henry Ford means not just a second but the first, and then you have Lee Iacocca, Carol Shelby, I mean these people. They they really really affected our lives and I hate will have more time with Ted to get it back another time. Thank you for being with us Ted and thank you for what Ford's doing last think we come back we're going to get to that fruit is not all Mustangs unfreeze out there hanging around, so be right back with the treatment, when you the best treatment today. Yes I hate maneuver the best treatment today on the Christian car guys show or I will lay me down in the comfort idea that were talking about in repentance, but it comes it sometimes the price of of of having that experience of being as Jesus put it, that I was going to dig around the tree and then done it. You know like oh my goodness, Jerry, you know, that's it. That's a tough place to be like you know Robbie Barrett. So many people are just just searching and you know what I think so many times the thing you know we get we get overwhelmed with the circumstances, but just think back about back in biblical time to step out got got got his people and followers and believers.

People put faith in him and trust in through it. I think it is time now make God didn't create the God created for his good and you think so many ways coming broke up a bit. I have people coming in and the people that are connecting back to the family to connect back to the bay and searching for answers and that that pretty encouraged to think last week Alice that where it was in the United States, more people attended church.

The in home and live streaming in any way of get the data together with the largest attendance. The people here in a service last Sunday.

This country that's pretty awesome that's really really is and III go back to the list of the leaking is so I was talking about that in the beginning of Luke 13 may ask them you know Jesus with these Galileans they got their blood mingled with their sacrifice with a bigger sinners, and the other people in Galilee are these people in Jerusalem that have the wall fall on them with a bigger sinners and you can help connect that to think that other people that are being affected more by Corona and and I thought it was interesting Jesus's comment in both cases very quickly. He says like no your business. You need to repent so that you don't perish. Likewise, nobody puts it right back on. This is where you need to do. You don't need to be concern yourself with all that concern yourself with this and then he tells the story about the fig tree that wasn't bearing any fruit, and so you you can't help but note that oh my goodness, look what he's saying. He's saying that I'm get this fig tree a year if you look at the parable he says to give it a year before it has to get cut down, and I am going to dig around its root so that you break up the soil and then I'm going to add the new and and and you look through the Bible on references on manure and it's almost always you know a metaphor for you know the whole world being in a cast amateur family like you. Things are really really hard when we start being attacked by the done Tyler being facedown in the dung piloted that there talk about throughout the Bible so getting back to my story when I was throwing papers just trying to make a way that I could pay the rent yell in the light bill so that we could have power in the middle of February.

I think it was when I fell and interestingly I can remember this Jerry that I felt like I was I'd reached a low in my life like I was a totally no value but that I could do nothing right is everything that I had worked for my whole life. It was all gone. There was no money there was never going to be any money and all that stuff seemed to be just like a way that all evaporated and so I decided to be the best paperboy that I could possibly be at an there were these most people got the paper back then. I'm sure still the same way were older people a lot of little old ladies and and they had a little thing on their mailbox that would hold the paper. You know that you're supposed to roll the paper up and put that in, but my predecessor.

He didn't take the time to walk down the it was a lot faster if you just through the paper at the door right because you could you could throw five papers and it's all about time you got to get the paper out before 7 o'clock but if I took the extra five steps and I hung the paper there in their low mailbox. They would have to bend over so far to get there paper right and so much I was thinking I could be a better paperboy forget that come Valentine's Day that year I had all these sweet notes, you're the best paper here.

I was at 56 will be sweet notes for the ladies you are the best paperboy have ever had and I'll never ever ever forget how God encouraged me to say I Robbie, if you apply yourself just what you know what is your business right is Mrs. what I've given you in here you go. So do the very best you can with it and you will bear fruit and and it will be good fruit in and you're going to be, you know you're going to be okay. And of course you know the story all too well because you're my friend. The time you know that that led to me being full-time in Christian broadcasting in an attempt to bear all kinds of fruit, or at least be able to speak into the kingdom on a weekly basis from its amazing and take it back to effective yet all of that but also that I was able to see how God used you and how humbled yourself because you know what you need anyone when you have something else that is taken away easy to be all it needed to be put up the wall and step but what I saw you with the character you that that reflected Jesus Christ and just like doing okay or the best paperboy but to the best paperboy because God put that in your heart to be the best paperboy and you were beating him in that the life that sometimes that that that we touch and maybe hanging a paper on mailbox or put it in the little two on the mailbox.

Note what impact does that make you know what, it makes a huge impact, and we don't know how that impacts not just bringing joy to somebody but also bring bring them closer to Christ and something we did mean. Now when you're on the air this morning that the be impacted by, and what if it is only one person that all the people felt the people the baby list on it. One person, or something to make them pause a moment that you know what that relationship.

I need get back get back in line. That's all want to get through the struggles that I'm going to the impact of what was going through now baby by job or relationship. What it makes it all worth it. Being obedient to our Lord and Savior.

And that's what I thought when you began and now that's what but brother and I love you know what you're exactly right.

It is Jesus. He was the one that put he was. He provided the opportunity like at the time that that paper job came up.

I really needed some I needed something in here was and I was like okay well I can do this is something I could do and you know even this morning Jerry there was a lady that had an application. I was thinking about all the applications come in for the Jesus labor love lately people's lives are being really really really disrupt and this lady needed tires and I and I had a chance to pray with her this morning and you could just hear there were tears but they were almost like God.

God's comfort God is with me in this God sees what's going on. You know that in some respect when you see what people are going through and you acknowledge it. They feel like wow there that God does show up in, and God does comfort and and he really, really, really, is that bridge over troubled water yeah I know, even weird week for me that pretty close to that of passed away different things that long-term field that not being able to be there step really, but you got that and when you're in a Christ right now the big patriots like everybody but worldwide where the crisis should a lot like the cars are priced at an Jesus is the answer is exactly right. Well listen carefully to Paul Simon's version of bridge over troubled water only come back. It won't be part Garfunkel let loose his talent in the heart. Paul had as he sings these lyrics is when you're show and/or I will lay me down as we listen to Paul Simon. There and if you listen to them to describe what happened. He said one minute.

There was no song bridge over troubled water in the next it was there just given him.

He'd been listening to gospel tracking and there's almost no doubt in my mind whatsoever that what Paul heard was what Jesus was literally offering him write this I will comfort you and that comfort word. As we described in the beginning of the show if you look in the Old Testament. It's there hundred and eight times, but 57 times. It said comfort to only 41 times it says repent and so if we go back to our friend David and the 23rd Psalm when he says your rod and your staff they comfort me or the repent me think about this right that they used you know he was a shepherd he knew about the sheep stuff and so you know that staff was used to guide them in the right direction or it was used. The you know that the rod was used to protect them against other things, and so the there. There's comfort in being guided and so when I first look at these words from Jesus in Luke chapter 13 and he says you know why you asking me about these other people you need to repent. That sounds kinda harsh, but it's not at all when you realize what Jesus is real thing is come to the real real real comfort and all of you, like me, but man during this time I meet more chocolate than ever. Even though I'm diabetic, you know why every every kind of comfort I can be, you know, looking for comfort movie comfort food, comfort, discomfort that because guess what my soul is walking to repent. It's it's seeking comfort but I'm going for all the falls when I should be going for the real deal and I wonder if even you can know the stuff Jerry and you can know it and you can know it. But in the moment you know are we going to repent where we can bear fruit. If we repent. If we if we go to Jesus for comfort. Then we get into the fine and then all the sudden we can bear fruit. If we turn towards that candy bar is like you turn towards death right. Right. Getting people are that God look at that that comfort but you know it also kind of reminded it a bank of 9/11 where we sell a nation that did dad quickly went away from that, it didn't take much time and I just hope and pray that this change that I think the country throughout the world.

I thank God it doors and we followed privately to make sure that we went to step up and share price to this time and you noticing that terribly shares is only given the years I got that the tree is given a year to bear fruit is like there's a definite time. Left if this thing isn't going to bear fruit in the year were cut down and and and so you know there's there's a sense of urgency.

There that like oh my goodness. And what an opportunity. Really, we do have like we've never had when we hear people in fear. We hear people it actually come in and and and lay ourselves down because I think there's more than just sharing Christ at that moment. It's like how can I lay myself down as a picture of how Christ would lay himself down in this situation in it in an opportunity to truly bring comfort and joy and love. I understand that at some point in time weekly. We get a chance to share the gospel. But if if if there literally right this minute ride on bald tires. You know that they're not really listening to our message. Roger affected her story about delivering papers go out given a mini sermon today. We have to stop at but like I said what you would do it with through Christ working through you and Jeremy. I learned a lesson I don't take much time helping with the cold. My mission in West Virginia about that part of Kentucky and Stepan were the women at bear called Mary's house that had a home and her daughter was part of that organization and we were going to somebody. That would just leave out the condition people in this country you live in, but I would like you want People to bore about coming up and she said you know really that you have. We need to show Christ in our life.

While we do this for Christ. We can't beat them over the head of a Christ because they don't hear that the only thing they know if they're hungry stomachs growling and really date. Just give me the bag of food and ball though it delicate that I think will attempt the situation. Where we need to know it best to just be about support.

Thank got to the front of the to be able to convey the love of Christ, absolutely.

And when you actually look at that word which is repent in Hebrew. It's just three letters and those three letters speak like huge volumes to me and if I could kinda illustrate what it says. From Robbie's point of view.

The first letter is a non-which we talked about before us are like a seed.

Sort of like faith that word like in faith and the second word I believe would be pronounced had to see ATT. It's a hat and it what it really isn't in Jewish is like the marriage hope like the canopy that goes over a marriage and so you got faith being married to something in the third letter is MM which is the first letter of the word Messiah and it generally speaking, means exactly what I'm telling it. So what you've got is through faith being married to Christ is the same word that is translated comfort 57 times and 41 times being translated repent. How cool is that that it's it's really a simple simple concept that you get so much benefit from all you gotta do is turn back to the one who really can comfort you.

Jerry laid out a human.

We let will it get quite weak to do and so it's hard to know but I do know that as we step out today if we are in Christ and somebody comes up that we can begin to discern. Is there a need or is there a need just to say like right now like wow the way that you can come to Christ is to accept that yeah he is in fact God son, and to pray and ask and become in your life and forgive you and come under his blood that he shed so that you would be you know able to come into God's holy presence.

He died on the cross for you, except that in prayer and you asked Jesus to show me what to do next and he will develop that simply in prayer.

So Jerry, thank you for being with me today even if it was miles away. I appreciate you shaving this morning to tell you where all went together to keep up the good work out there is still of these essential business keeping cars run and we just appreciate especially like wow those first responders. After the nurses the doctors those folks that are put their lives on the line. We need to be praying for them is one of, thank you for listening today and remember slowdown. Jesus walked everywhere he went, got all that and 33 years and nine really have a so much fun. The Christian you're listening to the network and TruthNetwork.com
