This is the Truth Network, this is Bill Mixon. Thank you for tuning in to Robbie Gilmore's the Christian Car Guy show this is Robbie's first Saturday of the month on his sidekick and cohost, then Robbie's owner will needed vacation and I had the pleasure to spend a little bit of time with you this morning. I have asked a new friend of mine from Mount Holly to join me this morning. Michael Holden read Michael has an insurance agency near Charlotte, one in Winston good morning Michael, can you hear us will get him tuned in, and a second if you have insurance questions, please call Leanne at 866358788343368960830 336-896-0830 you have any interesting insurance stories that may be a claims question.

Please give us a call when it comes to vehicles and how they work. Nowhere in the same classes Robbie so I like to limit my questions and answers to the things I love to do like hiking and if you love hiking specially in wilderness areas will looking for discussions about fun family trips in the outdoors and we would love for you to call in and share with us.

If you've got a story about a wonderful hike. You know love you'd like to share with others. 336-896-0830 Michael you there. I can I you had my blood pressure up for just a second there is wonderful to have you learn Michael how long have you been in the insurance business will turn around thousand 13 more on the life and financial by really kind of branched over to property and casualty as well. In 2015 though five years. Yes, that's what and how did you end up in in the insurance to begin with. My background has always been on the financial side of things. I was a portfolio manager for 10 years, but luckily Wells Fargo and after that it became a financial advisor really utilizing life insurance that the tool help people achieve their goal and 2015 I had opportunity to become agency owner, and that you know until the coming well-rounded in every aspect of insurance so that when I started the learn more about property-casualty endowment auto quality insurance and everything that comes along with why should the listeners consider insurance important, yeah. Good way to put it in the innermost garlic dirt. They work hard to acquire. You know own cars and you know it's important to protect the black thing you want and my earlobe in my financial advisors I coming a little bit but you know everyone has golden plan and without the proper coverage in play can easily be disrupted and that could be a bad car accident that could be enough fire to your home equity, unexpected law, you know the entrance of the tool to make sure that long-term peoples plant they employ.

I majored in insurance and collagen with the tried to drill into us is that you given up a little bit of money so that you have a guaranteed problem won't be bigger than your checkbook and I got yeah it's many things in life can be extremely risky and yet I don't think you could get a bank to give anybody alone.

If they weren't absolutely sure that if the house disappeared overnight. That did be able to get their money back yet. One of the topics I've always like to drill in is that I think there's a big advantage to having it at personal agent somebody that sitting across the table from you somebody that you can look Ida I and can help ask all the right questions you think it's important to have a personal agent instead of one of those one 800 numbers A. Bill unite. Story within a couple weeks ago where at one of our location.

We had a power outage and our thermostat disconnected so you know BRCA1 numbers are a little bit warm and though our office became unpleasantly hot and you know I to contact her energy provider and I think after dialing 71 800 number being transferred multiple time different to the wrong area. I finally got to the person I needed to and fill you know if you think about that for insurance you having a local agent to call or text immediately when it knows you that you have relationship with update understand the intricacies of your policies and everything else there's a ton of value and that though not only the convenience died but it's really important to get insurance right as well and I just don't feel like one 800 number can achieve that and it is a beautiful thing really doesn't cost any more to have a local agent, and though immediate no-brainer to have that relationship with someone that really has your best interest at heart sounds when it comes to claims that there are certain certain circumstances where it's really not a good idea to turn in a claim. If you absolutely sure you not to get any money but on the other hand the way you articulate what the problem is has a great deal to do with the way that the claim is looked at by the adjuster and with the decline can be covered or not. You know what I mean. A great point language it complex, I would covered whatnot covered the right preventing a claim in 1/3 way has value for sure. Knowing when to file a claim to your point has value as well. You know, if you're a person that can file a lot of clean the interim company and get a look at that negatively and that could affect your rate. Moving forward, though ghettos are all great point.

One thing that always seems strange to me was if you driving down the road and something hits your car if it bounced off the road that it's a collision, but if it flies in the air and hasn't hit the road than it's called a missile, so it's just unbelievably important whether you explain that you driving down the road and this fell from the bridge and hit your car versus I was driving down the road and I ran over something that was bouncing up and down because one why it's a collision claim and the other way.

It's a comprehensive climb. The other thing that's always frustrated me was that if you run over an animal and then you go and spray the front of the card out and get it all nice and pretty good.

The chances are really good you Doug.

It's going to be a collision claim instead of the hitting an animal climber comprehensive climb with the local airport to guide you in alt. What do you happen to technology in public like profit a lot where we can take pictures and related damage and stuff like that but really knowing the coverage part having when there you know I really the art… That the guide through the claims brought that the value of that you have always recommended to people is calling you talk to me and you say you had a claim.

I asked him to write it down and write it down. This is simply and clearly as you possibly can read it and make sure that it makes sense then read it to somebody else before you call in and you place the climb. If you've got it written down then you know exactly what you said and if it comes up later you can say well I know exactly what I said because I wrote it down and I read it verbatim but if they got a chance to call and talk to that personal agent and figure out exactly the way to explain what happened always like those stories about the person said I tried and I tried it I tried it I finally hit the person heading toward me.

You've you've got to make sure another way to look at it is the picture the claims adjuster paints is based on the first sentence they hear so once they hear you start talking.

They picture whether or not it is your fault or the other person's fault and what questions have to come along. So if you can paint the right picture in the person's mind, the very very very beginning that everything's going to go whole lot better than if you spend in the next three phone calls trying to clarify what you misspoke to be get you know what I mean you know you're you're portraying the real value of having a local agent right now just with your knowledge and everything experience with the claims brought that compared to the calling number.

You don't actually know the person you're dealing with so I think your your explain the value really well. You mentioned the call in number.

We would love such to call you and you can complain or ask questions 336-896-0830.

Surely some folks out there have had it interesting claim situation and you wondering why something wasn't paid and I gotta tell you I run into that.

Sometimes I wonder more. Why some things were paid but you got the opportunity to call in and ask to agent some really good questions. Also, if you like to hike call in and tell us about a really great family heart you like to go and will be back in just a minute.

Hopefully with this you probably you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com will get back to insurance and the minute before we were too many people only wanted to talk a little bit about some hike.

I got it love hiking wilderness areas.

Linville Gorge is one of my favorites when it's not in the middle of the summer, Grayson Highlands is secular all year round. And then there's a place called over the mountain victory trail up to the backside of Roan Mountain is just spectacular and then I did stone mountain not too long ago, which was I sort of pooh-poohed it for a while but I did the loop at Stone Mountain and its might be one of my top favorites, Michael, you do some hike and you said you had a favorite you like to go on. Small boy 12 eight we grown fond of the blowing Rock area and about 20 minutes what the boy right there a hike called Rockbridge Road upper Blue Ridge Pkwy. and I would fit what would be considered a moderate hike but there's two beautiful rock faces one about halfway up on a clear day you can be all the way to Charlotte second one even higher up just breathtaking in the probably our family favor hike. I love the backside a grandfather mail. Probably little bit tough at that age, but the Boone fork Daniel Boone scout trail is absolutely gorgeous.

I guess the first half that it wouldn't be too bad. But yes all along that area Ramblin rock is spectacular, except during the summer and some of those trails around blowing rock. It's almost like walking through the mall there so busy but is beautiful up there you have the let's see, at that age. Charlotte where else do you go from Charlotte I know, but my sons in Charlotte and he heads in the other direction any other trails for that age.

Everyone know I'm a little bit closer quite a breathtaking or feeling of being out of the mountain part of it, especially the cooler temperatures but you know it's only 3045 tomorrow. You can do a quick date for the use if you don't mind a long winding road. The over the mountain victory trail is a nice one for that age.

And there's a great big barn that they turned into a place for Appalachian trail hikers to stop at. It crosses the A-Z wanted the backside a run met and then goes over that would probably be a good one for that age. The other direction you had up. It's a steep climb, but did so man the vistas going up that area are just absolutely gorgeous Nick, there's a neat Facebook page hiking in North Carolina that if I'm looking to find out more about a great trail.

I'll go to and there's an app that is absolutely spectacular that allows you to find all kinds of hiking trails close to you call the hiking project and it's free if you download it, it will show you all the great hikes in any particular area and then you can drill down to it and it will give you in detail exactly help difficult. The trail is and what things are to look for.

I found some really neat place to spend a little bit of time when the coronavirus hit. It was hard to find fun things to do, but I got about 100 of the house.

I can do the worst of it. You have a particular claim story that you can think of that that made it difference in your life in the lice others do you really think customers that are part of our agency had a like to help people even if they didn't buy insurance from you occasionally, like when you tell people that you're in danger and everyone kinda talked about a claim story at about one but we had I have a friend that was building a custom home and the custom builder. I didn't have adequate coverage to cover the cost of the bill to how unfortunately they are about two or three week away from completion of the home material: fire damage 75% of the vote, where it is obviously inevitable. After that, and you don't. Unfortunately, the builder didn't have the following, or in the proper coverage to rebuild how and know that because you know that business data file for bankruptcy. Unfortunately left the builder of the house.

Our friend out of pocket a good amount of money, and it owed something I think with them with building custom health not really sure they think will let me check on the homebuilder. Make sure they have adequate coverage if something were to happen, but you know your point earlier interest is all about risk transfer and you have to come to consider specially when you like the bit whether building a house having children. You know when whenever there's a big change in your life. Always things like opportunity to kinda review your current insurance plan and make sure you have the proper covered plate is this a good point. I've always told people I thought it was far better to have one agent with three policies in three different agents with one policy that if you talking to them on a regular basis that there a whole lot more likely to know you and be able to make sure everything is covered but more important than that is that they've got a responsibility and obligation if there your insurance agent and the cover your auto and your home in your umbrella in your boat to make sure that there aren't holes, one of my insurance professors told me the two best values in insurance was umbrella policies and term life insurance, the cost is low, but they cover huge huge huge potential financial risks and it amazes me the number of people that deal with the one 800 numbers and the idea of an umbrella is never brought up but then that's probably because most of them are running around with lots smaller amount of liability insurance on their auto policy then is probably safe. There was a gentleman in North Carolina, in Winston one time ran over a child did not know that he would run over a child child had dashed out from behind a parked car and I share a little bit about what happened right after that it can be traumatic. If you don't have the right type of insurance via mail and take your breath away. So we come back we would love you to call it ensure a high like everybody to know about with you got an insurance question. See you soon. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com will we appreciate the in Indiana were talking about one of the hike in the area of the way, especially family trips discussing insurance if you got insurance questions are particular situation like this year would love to call in 68960830 yeah I've hiked stone mountain. Oh, I guess for five times and I would hike up to the top not take some pictures. I look around.

Now this is just absolutely gorgeous hike back down and I think you know, Grayson Highlands, only an hour farther away will I went back and I did the loop and that the loop at Stone Mountain was absolutely spectacular. You go down. There's a little farm that said very old and got fixed up just wonderful. So you'd sit underneath and look at from this farm up at the the stone mountain and then there are all kinds of vistas and views and waterfalls and it was just an absolutely spectacular way to spend three hours so I felt bad that I had not thought more highly of stone mountain until I did that trip, but the crowds aren't bad there that there's some great camping to wonderful place if you're anywhere close to Stone Mountain to go take a look see what you think.

We were talking a little bit about auto insurance and Michael was all fear mentioning that we've got a really neat great product that's come out recently and basically they they keep track your driving and if you're a better driver than most.

If you stop all the way.

Michael tell them about the the new ways to save money on auto insurance. So what work.

Based on our auto insurance. It's really about customizing intra-cough cough for each driver, and felt in your care to come out with app that you can download on your phone and it basically tracks your driving habits now one of the reason wanted to bring this up right now and I know that a lot of our listeners and people right now are driving left than they normally do, and whether it because you know Cove is just changed how we in our day-to-day lives. Or, you know, I think remote working has really picked up a lot of people in our doing their daily commute to their job. One of the big factors that attracted miles driven driving is much you probably have a good chance of receiving a pretty big discount at Apple will track your driving habit and so you know, one of them is called smart ride basically download app on your phone and it'll track your driving habits for a four month period. What they're really looking for. Billy no miles driven hard acceleration and braking on the amount idle time sitting in traffic and then I'm your driving at night.

In either factor is that the insurance company did need at increased risk and so what it does is as you download the app and tractor habit you get automatic discount for getting in the program and in throughout the four month tracking. I provide feedback to you with the driver and fill it the great told Dave money right now for a lot of people and we completely recommended for brand-new drivers. When the kid that just becoming like a great way for them to kinda realize their driving habit and have ownership in the auto rate is good talk driver yet. One thing that saved me a fortune was the we've got a company that one of the one of the first ones came up with accident forgiveness and if it hadn't been for accident forgiveness. My wife and I would've had a much more difficult time in our marriage and both are kids. I might've sold yet, but if you got the accident forgiveness and then you've got that way to keep track and make sure that your kids are driving the way you're supposed to. You've got a really wonderful way to save a lot of money and ye insurance or the opposite.

So I guess it's good to catch it, catch it early. I'm thinking of some stories back in my high school days and I'm biting my lip is better not hear your credit score. Yet a lot of folks don't realize how important, how beneficial good payment histories are you I get into that a little bit because maybe people don't relate the two very well yeah what a big determinant in your auto insurance pride and you had improvement.

Your credit score great opportunity to kinda review your rate if there's opportunity to get them to count yet interim care they're looking for what I make payment doggedly. I don't want delinquent payers or anything like that and so you are one of the carriers we work with. They have 21 different credit segment that they put people in and it if you fall into their top 45 segment their prices are amazing and so again, go back to local agent local agent knows what each carrier looking for and can help place you with one that you can provide the best value to you of the consumer interesting thing to me is it really isn't the same credit score with the bikers look at. I've got a really dear friend who has done extremely well in life but he never ever ever take out a line, he paid cash for his Halsey paid cash for his cars and he's got in his 70s almost no credit history at all and that crazy insurance credit thing just absolutely eats him up just makes me so mad, but there's this soup that they put together that basically they're looking for there trying to figure out whether you go into all kinds of emotional things that Gunnar predicted accident so yeah if you credit payment system changes. If you been paying everything regular for a long time and then you start missing and pay in late then they sort of figure out there things going on in your life that might make you just a little bit more distracted than other times. But point being is very beneficial to pay, especially your insurance and your other bills on time.

If you want the best rates out there. The other thing is is if you miss an insurance payment at the have to start the insurance over again. Tell them what happens when that that comes about, never a good insurance carrier though. If that does happen you know they certainly look at that right that in in the future. Intra-cough and you know I'm a little bit.

Have been a little bit more forgiving overlap one providing high daily weight to consumers based on you know, kind of the state of the economy right now everything that's going on but yet you want to continue to have a convicted payment stream. It'll benefit you in a long time take a lot of money on your auto insurance.

The other thing to keep in mind this is a legal contract.

You got a legal contract that starts and stops either every six months for every 12 months. So if it stops today and you go 15 days without pay in your premium and then there nice enough to take your money will in that 15 day period between the time your policy died in the time you rejuvenate it with another payment, you could have an accident and they could very easily say no you contract ended.

We didn't get the money and time we got the money after the accident and on the other hand they really like the idea that you gave them 15 days were hot. They don't have to pay anything they going to go back and take your money and fill in that 15 day.

The point being in your hurting yourself in two respects. When you paly your paying for something you're actually not getting, and your preventing the discounts that go in for you get a discount for having continuous unending coverage so it can be very, very, very helpful to make sure that insurance bills taking care of when it's posted. The other thing I've seen and I've had people switch when they said you know my car dealer swears that they called and added my car own and I had a claim and that other insurance company refused to pay it will I tell you, don't ever leave it up to the car dealer to call in and put that car in your policy because once your check clears. They're more interested in the next sale what you got a window where you can add a new car own, but that window stops on that start and stop date of the policy and what is it now 15 days I so you got 15 days from the time you replace the vehicle you added a vehicle but that stops at that hard fast date when your policy renews every 30 every six months or year. Point being, you want to make sure that you got that one agent that you talk to on a regular basis and that when you get a new vehicle.

You call and add it at that automatic coverage to p.m. So if you replace in one vehicle with another vehicle then went to the one you replaced it with the automatic insurance you God, which may not mean you have collision but if it's a new vehicle is the most in. She was on the policy. At least that's the way it works in the Carolina would love to hear about your favorite hi got a question give us a call 36890830 you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com member across the Truth Network this afternoon at 1 o'clock Eastern time is the live show Heuer with host Amy, Amy's program is about encouragement and hope in realizing the truth Heuer for everything and everything is Jesus Amy Cabo in the cure today one on the Truth Network wonderful. Please tune in. We appreciate you tuning in today we been talking a little bit about auto insurance and we've been talking a little bit about auto claims. I wanted to talk a little bit about your there. Lots of folks.

It will call up and want to get a quote in the think that they don't need to answer all the questions, or they don't think they need to answer all the correction the questions 100% truthfully and it amazes me.

Michael get.

Have you run across a few people that if sort of forgotten about the accident they had, or their driving record or the young driver that they really don't want to pay to ensure that we get where providing a new quoted you know we always had accident or derogatory event, usually three year period. Look back three years and you know we run the quote before we actually run a motor vehicle report numbers look good.

Client it are the prospect agreed report with the quote in the wind up running the report of the price of the policy should stop big time and yeah you know it's something that have to be disclosed up front and fortunately you don't get it. Be able to know run one over an interim company.

You have a derogatory event there to find and so it's not perfect either and you know there is where accident might pull in an at fault accident for driver, when really it was the other drivers both in you know if we can document that provided report we can you know tend to get those removed and stuff like that and I think a little bit of work in it. Ultimately you have to work with the agent. Be truthful and honest about your claim history to be able to get the most accurate quote numbers yet another would look at this, people don't really understand this is a legal contract and all the rules that apply to legal contract supplied insurance.

The something called a material misrepresentation.

So if you start a contract and you leave out a key piece of material information with you totally misrepresent the truth. You give the other party the right to cancel coverage or the entire contract. So if you were to call up there used to be in there still are a lot of companies when 800 companies that they'll say you haven't had any accidents or violations in the last three years have you and the person says well I guess I haven't and they start the insurance and the price is absolutely spectacular for about two months and then after about two months to get this great big huge bill and the person calls and says what in the world happen.

I said what we found out about this ticket you header we found out about this accident you header we found out about this person's got the exact same address on their driver's license. In a lot of cases, they knew that 10 minutes into the phone conversation when they gave you the quote. But they are going to get you to switch if the price isn't half will during that window where there waiting to let you know that the price went they've got all kinds of opportunities to cancel coverage and then when the price goes. They've got the right to go back and collect the money you during that window know a lot of one 800 companies that just made a fortune you ever run into that Michael increasing the price you never want to get back here contract point never want to give an interim company a reason to deny a claim, so you always have to provide truthful information and if you give them one reason to deny a claim. I'm not saying they're going to do it but you know you want to get the coverage that you're paying for right that's the whole point interim to be protected when an event happened in back your contract point that requires correct information. You know you have to represent your claim history and beautiful that you're ensuring the coverage that you want it baldly be detailed in the one 800 folks just love selling the small amounts of liability insurance because they make 90% of their money off that first $50,000 worth of insurance. Well, if you take what they offer in their their clients. I've had that called in and said yeah I switched to this one 800 number. I said what did you get the exact same coverage. The civil what you mean. I said what would you send me what they showed you when it comes in a house that unit you had $500,000 worth of liability insurance with me with this companies only offering you $50,000 worth of insurance. But what difference does that make I said, will other than your house and one car in half your paycheck.

Everything else you have is at risk if your suit in your lose what your insurance runs out. I was talking about the gentleman that ran over this child might is in court and his insurance company gets up and they write a $50,000 check in the hand it to the judge, and they cited the client.

Thank you very much were had nine aces. What are you doing Jesus. We only have $50,000 worth of insurance which is going to go ahead and write that check and will leave you need to go hire your own attorney now. Well, he's got to go in and he's gotta find an attorney and the attorneys he went to talk to you soon as you know we would love to represent you, but you know if you lose this case you not to have any money to pay us so you need to pay us our fee upfront will you try to go in and get alone. One of the questions I ask you where are you in litigation, we had to go borrow money from family and friends and everybody he could come up with the money will at the end of the trial, the judge says you know another $250,000. This is why I don't have it. This not they are pieces will sign this piece of paper will what's this as we go to garnish your wages were going to take half of your paycheck and half of your spouse's paycheck until all of this is paid to want to sign that piece of paper as well.

That's fine, but we can lock you up for contempt. According to you change your mind insurance is there to take care of the big problem is sitting across the table from somebody that is looking at you that's going to be there when you call up and say man I'll know where that kid came from. That's what I want is I want to professional because it can cost just their cases. I have seen were going from $50,000-$300,000 can be less than five dollars a month more missing that Michael talked about it. Catastrophic risk you know what I thought about what life-changing as far as you know your financial future. What you can afford, possibly filing bankruptcy 30 know in your example about how much that change that person's life and to your point liability insurance that much more to go up the higher limit and it's really worth it. I mean most of our customers to take that catastrophic risk off the table specially in today's driving environment where you know that Bill distracted driving is on the rise being for more accident and the type of accident that are occurring by end of the large large wellness Michael, thank you so much for being on the show this morning.
