More than 3 to 1 over crashes. So what are the driving habits that will extend the life of your car did your driving instructor, perhaps to heat a picture goldfish bowl full of water in your lap as you're driving them to slosh any of that stuff.

Maybe actually put a big open your lap and had to drive it with a full cup make sure you didn't slosh any. So what are some of those things that you were taught or maybe that you taught your kids that this is this is the way to be gentle on your car because cars die quickly without tender loving care so to speak.

As we talked about last week even. It was amazing to me is that appraised thousands of thousands and thousands of cars over my career as I would get in a lot of people's cars and drive and it was fascinating to me how you can almost tell the way a car would drive by looking in and and having an experience with the owner, because gentle people tend to be gentle on their cars. Rough people tend to be rough on their cars and you can tell by how loose the car is all those things kind of by how they been driven so what do you do to make sure that your gentle with your car.

So I was thinking as I thought about that in a number one did he know what he was doing was car by driving it on a flat tire. Did somebody reteach them that but also maybe there's things like that that you're thinking about right now that you saw somebody due recently. This just makes your hair stand on end like wow how could they do that to their car.

This is sometimes happens with this ice storms that we've been having a lot of power outages here and there. It and again we lost the color because we lost her phone service and we lost our computers and so hopefully will have her back. I hope she calls back at 866-34-TRUTH 87884.

She was describing how this timing chain issue and as I was listening I was the number one this is a question so many people come to me with a 2002 car it's got 150,000 miles on it. It needs a major repair like she's talking about. Do I invest this money will always just say is this a good car for you because the, the prevailing wisdom back in the day was that if the repairs exceeded the value of the car. It was time to trade it in time to sell it and I disagree with that methodology wholeheartedly.

In fact I live that message. If you go out there and look at old red it's it's got a new engine and I put in it maybe seven or eight years ago how I spent you know whatever it was $3500 to put in the new engine in an engine has lasted me another hundred and 80,000 miles in a minute. Who knows it may go to another 250,000 miles and the issue is is that I could've bought probably three or four new cars in the period of time that since I've gotten a new engine and all those new cars you know they would've been $45,000, whatever that may be or even if I bought an inexpensive used car if I bought a 5000 values, all three of those times $5000 and $15,000 so investment I made in that one engine was certainly a good investment. That is our call was mentioning. She's a lady and that's really an issue is finding somebody that you can trust to work on your car, and so this is one of the places where I'm really really excited about the Christian card is doing across the country is we have all these repair shops that partner with us in the Jesus labor love and so if these guys are willing to donate the labor to single moms and widows across the country. My advice would be let's find you are somebody good work on your car and let's go ahead and repair that timing chain, and yes that timing chain if it slips it's going to be the end of that engine and it's not a safe thing to driver the bad timing chain so we need to get that fixed as quickly as possible and I would definitely recommend if the car is good for you and it's a safe car because I never would advocate anybody driving unsafe car or something that doesn't meet their needs. Or maybe they need dual airbags in their gardens and airbags. Whatever it is that they feel that they need to do to make the family safe. That's critical because you can't replace that once you've done that, and if that car is meeting your needs. I always recommend you repair it.

I don't care how many miles it has on one old red needs another engine. What are the driving habits it will extend the life of your car, 866. Why shouldn't call out that number just yet because were having phone troubles today as we lost all power right in the beginning of the shift so common and right now might be frustrating for you so will let you know when were back on the phones. This is a live show and were talking about. What are some of those driving habits that would lead to trouble versus what are some of the things that will get your car to last longer. One of the things that I was guilty of for years.

For example, was if you got a straight drive like I do.

Old red is a manual shift car truck is a case may be, in if you just lean your hand like you.

You lay your hand on the shifter all the time. I guess what that wears out those bushings and you'll end up with repair bill quicker than you would if you didn't put your hand on that shift lever so to speak, or again you hear people talk about jackrabbit stops and starts all the time. Let me just when you really think about what all is going on here. The pressure that you put in on your axles. The pressure that you put on the transmission. The pressure that you put on the engine. All these things as he ran the floor the gas to the floor to take off quickly.

All that adds wear-and-tear because when you make those gears come together quickly.

Guess what, there's a lot more friction. There and you put that pressure on the system that doesn't necessarily have to be as if you really keep your car 300,000 miles. As we talked about the previous segment to keep a long long time then babying it seems to make a lot of sense. It doesn't mean that you don't drive it.

Normally because it has to heat up. I talked to a friend this week who had a show car at one point in time and he never warmed up enough off the trailer to get it really going. And guess what, because he babied it too much it.

That hurts the car as well because cars have to heat up at the thing of it is a driving normally don't overdo it but does jackrabbit start stops and starts are really hard on the car.

Same thing on the brakes either side. Well, you know, I can pull right up at stop sign and hit my brakes quickly, you can as you drive longer and longer you get experience to know okay how long is that light been green. How long is that lightning read is that light to turn green or red before I get there and you can coast coasting now it is mean shifting into neutral because it's not like, but coasting meaning in or just give yourself plenty of time because if that light goes from green to red. You know why not realize that this is probably can happen so I can get off the gas. I don't have to slam on the brakes when you slam on the brakes that obviously takes off more brake shoe. It puts heat on the rotors. You can report the rotors you got all those issues of slamming on the brakes as you go slam on the brakes. You got a slam on the brakes and not saying that. But whenever possible coast up at stop sign take off slowly baby her car because if you can get it to go 300,000 miles 400,000 miles.

He's a friend of mine I met at a race track. About a year and 1/2 ago with Psion is the executive worship pastor here.

It's at the Southlake campus main campus here at Gateway church and it just so happens that I had a divine detour this afternoon.

I was I was headed to the Vegas racetrack, Mr. playing with the ice storm there early on in the discount got stuck here so I came over to visit these guys and wouldn't you know I run into their man's summit which is absolutely amazing. But let science say hello and tell us a bit about a societal and what is actually going on here will wear once you redo a minced summit here Gateway. It's a men's conference. We have about 3000 men right now in the sanctuary just right across the hallway. There hearing the word of God's praise and worship in a two-day conference.

We had Craig Rochelle in John grade course pastor Robert Morris is been here from Gateway and now John very obvious as you head up this conference right I am over the worship for the conference and in over a part of the conference that I'm sure we don't talk back and just well, probably.

I'm sure Your Honor what am I doing talking to a worship pastor down here this year's church, but they do something really needs and it's it has to do with high racing and honestly I don't know a lot about that but it's part of an outreach. Imagine this is like guy stuff that they are there some big trucks in the parking lots of ATVs and other guy things but there's a huge focus on this high racing program. So what is that, actually, about will I racing is for my racing.com racing is a simulation built by group out of Massachusetts that is owned by John Henry John Henry is part of course, owner of Boston Red Sox in them. Sure, some of the things John Henry's principal owner of the company. I recently developed simulation software that was used to train NASCAR and in IndyCar Formula One drivers and they develop the software went public in went to the general public in 2008 and since then the online community has grown from a few hundred people now have 45,000 subscribers who get online every night and race against anybody from Christian Phil Talley to Derek Dale Earnhardt Junior, Joey legato to actually enter the race against these guys on the online scene there yes did not have personally some of these guys so it's a training tool for a lot of NASCAR and Formula One IndyCar teams, but God normalizes like and just like me, you have a passion for racing. Very competitive guy. I love singing out of worship doing those things. But there's the other snowman side of me that also likes to get on the racetrack and compete okay so early.

I wish you could see the scene behind me here, but there is what you think maybe 50 or 60 like computer set us back here with the wraparound screens paddles gear shifts all kinds of stuff right it is a is a simulation. It's the sound of friends of five or need for speed that you can get on your Xbox 360 or PlayStation how these things take high-powered computers run them because it is a simulation software so guys custom builder rigs to Meet their needs, their style of racing the meat online through our racing.com service and race against other members and different classes different levels of racing with racers from all over the world. So all the stuff that's in there behind where did this come from actually individually owned. Yes all and individually owned equipment, personal computers, you are right and so I'm sure Rob, there's probably some listers here wonder what does this have to do with ministry is here.

We only worry in this church and they have got it transformed actually due to our last is a winner circle that this looks like a mock racetrack center has podiums on their there's cameras everywhere me this I can. I can't describe to you how big of a deal. This really is but what does it have to do with the men's ministry will we see it as you know I racing is is is an organization that I'm a part of that.

I love racing some. It's a hobby that I have. I know men like myself have hobbies I love golf guys like fish things like that. It is a great connection points with people who may not know Christ who may not have a personal relationship with him. Or maybe just guys that are that are lukewarm maybe run the fence somewhere. This is a great opportunity for me as a person who also wants to reach out into the marketplace or out into the world course at almost every church so I'm around a whole lot and save people that I get in a chat room or didn't racing around a lot and say people, which is great that's I love Libyan salt in the world and being a light and dark places. So with that passion just like churches. It may have golf tournament. Searchers may fishing tournaments or bowling activities will here Gateway weaves that halos have an hour and outreach die racers is the only one in the country and our racing is here actually represented this yearly place and represented out here from their company dear participate with us to be one of the instructors during the seminar, so they come in that we just were using as a tool. First of all, this is really cool to reach the guys with the love of Jesus, and to show that God is a giver.

He's not a taker and then God loves each and every one of them and that's what they're seeing when the comments it's a free seminar we invite guys in here from all over the United States, Washington, New York to ask you, like all this stuff didn't come from right here in Southlake.

They did guys from all of the country so these of these are guys that either you personally are some the other guys in the church and develop relationships with plan online and they have their own expense I imagine is him and honor to be part of this thing. Yes, that is exactly right in the racing as I mentioned earlier, has it has its own community. There's a game culture. There's all kinds of stuff going there but they're here and they can help you get the message of Christ when they come to the church to is exactly right in the beginning. I wish I could explain the magnitude of this but I think there is a roughly 3000 guys are in attendance at this meant some as I write is a little over 3000 right so I just came out of a worship service here were 3000 silently and everybody in praise and worship tonight and and then there going back to the game here. I guess maybe given out some awards. Isaac and I have that we got tournament racing that happens so so part of the font to get all these guys together. We would do a long-term racing as prizes. Eddie Gossage was here earlier from Texas motor Speedway to present some prizes came out and shared his testimony with this and knows a great time yet is this is really a fantastic outreach Robbie and it's it's really caught a virtual Ontrack segment this week. So here we go. Who would write such a script on February 1, 2008 I had just lost our Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership.

I went to an attorney friend who instructed me said Robbie would take $300,000 to go bankrupt and since I didn't have a dime. He said well you Rob you better climb under a rock, because all these people affixed to come after you with the IRS. They said I owed them over half $1 million in the SBA/Justice Department's that I owed them over half $1 million Chrysler who themselves destined for bankruptcy within the years that I owed them over million dollars. If you're told in the supper over 2 million over other creditors and from the dealership or hundreds of thousands. Our house was in foreclosure. We lost our cars, our kids tuition been paid, they might be remote in school and my summer school to graduate.

That year so that was a real crisis and although I had a job with a radio station. It was mostly commission and I didn't have name many clients yet so in order to have the money to rent a house. I was actually delivering newspapers. I had to get up at 3 AM seven days a week. The good news was that Jane it was the first week in February I was going to the Super Bowl. You know this is so, Jesus, you got all this stuff going on in your life that my son and I had won tickets from Chrysler that fall to go to the Super Bowl would sign an agreement that we wouldn't sell them.

So, although I had no money. We had to sleep in our car in Phoenix.

We didn't have the money to buy a hot dog, or to park my son and I were just a few rows up in the end zone sitting there watching the Super Bowl.

We got to see Eli Manning through the winning touchdown pass. I mean who could write the script. Well, I knew that someone besides my office manager who had pled guilty to embezzlement went to prison must be to blame. I do believe in many ways, really. I was responsible.

I was one who didn't want to pay for the audit every year, or find enough capital to have the used car inventory we needed it was commonplace to move some numbers around the financial statement to show more net worth for Chrysler's capital working standard and no doubt, I actually condone our office manager doing that.

Yes I had fallen a long long way down in my tumbledown for the amount of life the deep rich valleys. It planted me in soil. Jesus knew that would allow my roots to go deep in the be nourished in the ashes of my disasters in the compost of weeds long since uprooted. I really think my Savior that I was well watered from the storms of my life and well drained with the sands from my rough edges. God certainly placed me facing south with exposure to the needed son/stuff every day as I've been instructed to spend some time in the word God's word every day and I feel I lived.

Isaiah 61 for the as the soil makes the sprout come up in a garden causes seeds to grow so the sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up from the nations of the most amazing part of the story for me was my wife. She was by my side stronger than ever before and this is really kinda tough when you think about it. Tammy had never had to drive a car since she'd known me more than 6000 miles.

She was always in a car. We lived in a custom-built house in an exclusive neighborhood.

We traveled constantly.

We went on amazing adventures we went on cruises to Russia and the Black Sea and that past September we been Ireland. We took our family all kinds of amazing vacations and we had Carolina Panthers box seats. Most of our friends live similar lifestyles and most of our friends would soon abandon the has-been mourners it. Tammy was somehow made really. She was made for me and this adversity and she leaned another storm with almost reckless abandon. I could never really dream of how rough it would get court orders and subpoenas certified packages and Sheriff visits. I never felt once it Tammy wasn't right with me all the way to limit might appear that I would go to prison. The one moment I never ever forget was that February at age 53. It was dark and very cold and I was running from apartment apartment trying to throw up papers up to the third story and then failing to do so I'd have to run all those stairs and all the papers had to be out by 7 AM and there was a patch of ice on the sidewalk and boom I fell hard and slicing my knee. I was laying there bleeding in the dark and at that point, believe me. I did cry out, it was dark in the morning and I'd lost everything and I said why why why listen for God's voice and I didn't hear anything, not even crickets.

It was too cold.

I had a wife and three kids at home and they needed shelter and food and I may not be able to run a Chrysler dealership that I could get those papers out and there was a deep sense of satisfaction in knowing that at least I could do that job well. This valley had far richer soil for me than any mountaintop at ever fallen from. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I was doing all I could with no compromise, no fudging the numbers are failing one from one of Chrysler's schemes and unloaded Chrysler in the bank have schemes which that might be a book in itself someday. I truly still have nightmares. Yes when you are in the valley of the shadow of death. You see, what really matters, and who really matters. In May I tell you it's God and family. At this point, the Green Bay Packers just out of the picture. All of Vince somebody in Giovanna's famous speech. Where do you get the faith to put your last dollar into the gas tank that newspaper delivery cart four dollars a gallon. That winter or the strength to roll that first paper Jesus. It told me to share my heart on the radio and it never let me down, not through cancer Jeep, crushing a brain abscess. He got me that job throwing newspapers and my wife. She believed in me. Her faith was stronger than mine and I knew it. Jesus, Tammy, my mother and father, Vic Hill, Stu Epperson, Bill Mixon data Mark Lin Jerry Mathis Vinnie Menino Adam Draper John Cordes and Dr. branch all became oaks of righteousness right before my eyes.

I'm telling you got it planted oaks of righteousness all around me and they prayed and they encouraged me many lonely money or even gave me money that soil was far richer from the ashes of my disasters, which by the way, make lie, as I discovered I needed a strong cleansing agent.

The heat of the compost of my turned up weeds and other decay schemes also made for some precious nutrients of illuminated Scripture.

I'd surely had a serious rotor tilling to loosen my prideful hardness allowing my very thirsty roots. The much needed water of life yet, just as Paul planted in the palace watered. I so love this quote from Stacy Eldridge in her book, becoming myself the kingdom of God.

It was six years ago and I'm just now able to realize the critical role. My wife played. She called me out on up and things were more than miraculous.

Many call me faithful but first of all, my wife and so many families and friends had faith in me when I really had little in myself. Ever since then, but think of the oaks of righteousness.
