Welcome to the Christian Car Guy radio show. The cop show dedicated to helping Christians buy and sell cars by the blue book. Now the orange book led by God's book, the Bible called the Christie car guy would you question is 18663421 866-34-TRUTH 7884 as being a Christian have to do with buying a car you're about to find out is your host Robbie Gilmore.

Welcome to the Christian car guy will we bring the will of God will automotive on and if you're wondering why you're fearing a little bit different this morning. By the way, good morning everybody. It is because our wonderful host Robbie Gilmore is in New York this morning on family vacation so I will wishing him a good time up there.

I hope he's staying warm as we are dancing's pretties and whether Carolyn so I today I want to start off I say again, good morning and happy Easter or almost Easter Easter happy Passover to all of our Jewish friends and the my name is Cameron Horner and I am friends with Robbie Gilmore. You may recognize me from disciple magazine which comes on 1230 and the piece of free to tune into that. We love doing that. This is my first time doing a live radio show. So you guys are going have to bear with me a little bit as I learn how to do this thing for the first time so I want to introduce to you guys. Everybody out there who I have in the studio with me this morning. First of all, not introduce our wonderful insurance guy that you may recognize if you're familiar with Job Bill Mixon how you doing today sir wonderful glad to be in with you, great. This is a this gentleman is my confidence because he done this before and I'm and I so I know that if I mess up. He's got singular force by the next person that I would like to introduce to you is a a lady by the name of Cindy Crompton that's it correctly good morning good morning and also Nancy Washburn in morning essay that correct you awesome it could get so today on on nine Christian cardiac I want to introduce these guys because they do something very very special day. They bring really I guess independence to people and I love that because Jesus Christ came bring us freedom and these guys are bringing freedom to people in a very special way before I kinda spilled the beans about what they do. I want to share a little bit about my story. Just introduce going make this personal.

I do want to remind everybody that after our third break really going to the what is it called the black book. How does as Robbie set the. The devotional part about we get the black vote, which is the Bible instead of the so the blue book was that normal core people do anyway sorry that some Robbie's was also say so. Cindy what you did for me which was very unique and and that I just want to say thank you for is that you gave me freedom and if if anybody tunes into my show.

You've heard my story a few times and am I am a 21-year-old, and a few years ago I had something occur in my life that that took away a lot of my freedom and what happened was I had a diving and I broke my neck which left me immediately paralyzed and after that I went off to Atlanta Georgia for therapy for four months and I came back home and of the Lord, drop me into ministry pretty quickly and it was just kind of me hanging on tight to the Lord and seeing where he brought me after some time, though my mother, Joanna Horner, who also is part of a radio program. She drove me everywhere and we were in a little Camry and I would jump over into the into the and the pastor seat and she would take the wheelchair back around to the trunk and would put it in the trunk for me and we hopped in the car and drive off what we did this for probably 22 and half years at least and then we yet we finally bought a minivan without a drop down ramp and that with those little bit easier because I can get in that I could get in the rampant. I would hop in the back but I still was not able to drive by myself because obviously I was paralyzed. I must see 67. If that means anything to you but since that means I'm paralyzed from the chest down.

Also, my hands are very functional because of that accident.

So obviously I don't have the ability to push the gas or push the break. So how do you drive well Cindy I guess is the good way that to bring you into this Cindy Compton. She is with organization or I guess a call to visit a business always better word for that does driver rehabilitation and you know this is our sick Christian show. I really want to bring in Christ into this and you told me before we got started that there is a testimony about how you got into this so I would like real quick just maybe in just a few words.

Tell us what you do and then in a few more words you can tell us. The testimony took what is it Cindy that I that you do obviously have told my story a little bit just jump in and and right okay why I have this amazing job that I just think it's really awesome. I'm an occupational therapist and I'm one of the specialty areas of occupational therapy practice is driver rehabilitation. So my job is to you as fast individuals that have had a disability and that can vary, and I think were going to talk about that later, but in their ability to operate a motor vehicle safely sell your exactly right the freedom that it offers.

When someone is able to achieve that success brings you joy so I have this great opportunity to interface of people's life to really get them back into a normal routine where moms not driving Cameron anymore and I'm glad our lot more freedom so you moms same Chrysler teams that we got and got happy people that I said about my testimony so here it really I go all the way back and I'll try to make this fairly brief that said, when I was in occupational therapy school and I remember the lecture when the professor came and spoke about driver rehabilitation and I was dead by that lecture and it was really one hour but to remember some of the distinct things that lecture even just attention and driving and she was given the story of how she got all the way to our work and forgot to drop a child off at daycare and that she was been distracted in her mind. With today's activities in very specific stories of you know what all goes into operating a vehicle from your attention to your physical interface at the vehicle and in all affairs so that was seen a part of the beginning and that was just a seed planted way back in. Then on in around 1992.

I guess I moved to North Carolina and was working in an outpatient rehab facility and they were interested in starting a driver rehab program so I was eager to look at that and explore the options of what that would look like it had been doing that for several years had that program approved was working through the facility. When something's changed and you know a lot of times the Lord wakes to stop by bringing change in changes in always on happy change so you know your view had an situation. Cameron that wasn't necessarily happy change, but it's glad you and pathways that you didn't necessarily know you would be on your yard today so that I look at that but one of those changes was I had a change in a supervisor and I went from a job I love to John.

It was very difficult and every day I brought that verse from Hosea and I read it allowed for probably several months weren't sad. Therefore, I will alert you into the desert and there I will speak tender words to you in the valley of doom will become a door of hope and I would pray that verse and I would say you don't.

Lord I feel like this, workplaces become a desert for me that you say you've alerted me to this place. You say you've wooed me to a place it's difficult and you've said that in that difficult place.

You are to provide a door of hope and so I really prayed of avarice for months and you know just continue to lock-in that, hard place that the invoices around me began to say about doing this on your own so I had engineers that I worked with saying you should really think about going out on your own. Cindy and then I had a client's mother.

He said if you went out on your own. We would just ascend training and tell you wrapping Ellen and work with you privately and I had a local driving instructor. He said you thought about doing your business in so you know when the Lord uses other voices to speak to you multiple directions. You better have your ears open like you three new all kinds of words of the mouth to three witnesses right there affirming that right.

You write so that began you know really just process of determining if that was the right move and I met with a small business entrepreneurial business center and then you know shorten the story from that point started my business in 1997 working specifically in the area of driver rehabilitation so that answers all my questions was a long you been doing this so over 20 over 20 years. So lots of experience but that's awesome everyone I want to embarrass me.

Cindy a little bit. It is today is her birthday and so I just want to say thank you so much for coming in on your special day. That's our music so we will be going to break here in just a minute, but guys call in: for us, our number is number is 833, full of the stuff that is 866-34-TRUTH is on the third is more got a job out there was also intelligent God through an automotive platform not normally we have a gentleman name Robidoux Moore's are normal host but Robbie is up in beautiful New York on a family vacation this week so we pray that he's having a fun time and a little bit cold weather, but he bring that up because I do not like the cold. My name is Cameron Horner and I am a guest hosting filling in if you want to call it for him this week and him we have a few people in her the studio with us. Cindy Compton, who is been sharing Earl Crompton ensuring her story. She is a driver rehabilitation specialist and she told us just a moment ago. Her testimony of getting into the business. We also have Nash Nancy Washburn who works with Miss Andy and Bill Mixon who is our insurance specialist in here with this is my confidence again this is my first time doing live radio so I'm really him to get Simon here what they going to bring up that Robbie does, that I think is wonderful is the Jesus labor of love because of movement or Jesus labor of love mission where he he allows people who have core issues such as single mothers widows or struggling families to to go to the website, which is a Christian Car Guy.com believe and and submit some stuff to to get car free car labor done. The supplies do have prepaid for but the labor is free.

However, Robbie has asked me to do a specific favor and that is to share this little bit of store. We have a lady in New York who has really been struggling. She's a single mother with several children and her brakes have been going back for a while and has not been able to not been able to get the money raised for the parts or the services to the services will be free, but the part she still struggling with so Rob is asked if I would ask the audience if anybody would be willing just out of the goodness of their heart to send into money if that if the Lord is put on your heart. The address you can send it to you is a defining say this right 234 Sorrow Ln.

It is, that's to part 238S a you are a lame and that is Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

You can go to the website and get that as well so I want to hear some people calling in or talking about driver rehabilitation. My personal story is that I had some rehabilitation done myself. That gave me freedom so I can outdrive after a accident that I had three years ago that put me in a wheelchair, drove me around for two years but then I met Ms. Cindy and that she is got me rehabilitated back.

I've been now driving for a few months, and so many doors of freedom of an open back up to me for this, so I would like to hear stories from anybody out there who maybe has had a similar incident and they are you know they've been reviewed, given some freedom through some rehabilitation were there driving at all.

So I personally have a obviously, the need to go to handicap parking spots now because I have a ramp on a van and I have some funny stories about working issues that I've had. If anybody out there has some funny stories they like to share with this please feel free to call in the number is 866-34-TRUTH is 866-34-TRUTH 87884 Cindy only get you on here in just a second boy got a call or Eileen from Greensboro you are on the Christian Car Guy I truth radio broadcasting network. How are you today I'm doing fine.

Excellent.

What he got force today. I threw my daughter in California.

I had purchased a factory purchase date and time at modern Ellen.

My daughter called early that that old car is there anybody you know that can take the car, including a unit that where my mother can drive I'm a post polio and two years ago right leg function. I had driven from here to New York lab when dating the car in the right light would not move but I'm going through that closely help where the leak is coming back so they recommended driver rehab and so I do it at all. You know, evaluation, and I met her and it was the best thing that could happen to me how to drive like except for your daughter. She's the best thing that happened to see really advocated for you. Eileen yeah I decree hiring Kelly. I got to yeah now yourself, took me out right up with that left leg and I got the client and I had been driving and I had driven for two years and I thought I wouldn't be able to because I and I had to drive us to ask that with flying colors. And I don't want to say thank you and I daughter for gait again getting out there. You thanks Eileen yeah you did a great job and I just so great about these stories is such freedom and independence in even the relationship between spouses because you know your story when you come in as my husband got me everywhere and I can't just have that opportunity to get out got get my nails done or whatever it might be that you want your own girl freedom time that the able to accomplish in yeah you did great. You know Eileen, you said something that really actually jumped out to me you weren't sure if you would be able to drive and I have heard that just, part of my purpose that I'd like to bring out today is kind of awareness. I guess the best word I've heard so many people, especially spinal cord injury because that's what I had. I know with spinal cord injury. The said the audit know I could drive or wow I can actually drive it it know that and so I just want to encourage people out there if you if you're handicap wondering cannot actually get this freedom back. You know that there is the opportunity to so Cindy I like to Eileen. Thank you so much for being on and fertility, stories is just wonderful. When we come back Cindy, I would like you to tell us some of the people from across different and just the wide range of freedom that people have 866-34-TRUTH give us a call tells her stories asked questions like your some funny stories about parking issues and advise got it how we come back. Also, Rob is on the line so gives off our lashings, heart God just went through four and I my name is Cameron Horner. Usually, Robbie knew more than New York and that we actually have Robbie waiting on the line and Robbie you got a hold on just one second.

Why reintroduce our people. Ms. Cindy Crompton was a driver rehabilitation specialist.

She has given me freedom and the passes I had a diving accident three years ago and was completely lost my ability to drive because of so you need your your feet and I was paralyzed when this happened and so now she is a got me really debilitated in the driving world using hand controls and she's got tells a little bit more about that here in just a moment. We also have Nancy Washburn who we hope to hear from in a moment, and Bill Mixon so call us in 866-34-TRUTH on here some story stuff like that. We have Robbie on the line. Robbie is up in New York and he is decide to call in what what a privilege Robbie how are you today sorry of if I mess up your show. I'm trying to best serve our my wonderful and I actually don't care what my mom all your Illinois my around a lot mild but on the topic of close and personal with me as I was little realtor about your and that "there are a lot of things like describe the editor parking. A lot of them don't realize that with handicap parking place with her for your grandpa come out and so when they're in the handicap parking. Surely you can and your house in the park somewhere in the background with door to get out. I have it.

The complications were another license on the government cannot go where the back of the parking lot all around with yeah you probably know that on the level that so I'll telephone us to jump over to Ms. Cindy because she's got some good information for us but funny story along those lines, Robbie. I was coming out of the nicer restaurant in Burlington where I'm out of and it was a Friday night. I was actually about the go off to lead a Bible study. I was in there because you know I knew they had good parking and sometimes just choose restaurants based on your parking so I go the handicap parking space wide open go in, have a meal come back out and a Mercedes nice Mercedes has pulled up into the into the place where like you said the ramp is I've ramp alive and is supposed to drop out well if if the ramp can't drop out, then I can't get in the vehicle and there's no way for me to rectify the situation so I'm looking at this Mercedes and literally it is just close enough that the rent can't fall and I'm thinking not so this is middle of the winter is drizzling outside. I'm thinking okay what am I gonna do my hands are wet. How to push back inside so thankfully somebody that I somebody came out so my situation said you know all walk in and let them know and that they did and it was actually somebody inside that I knew and who knew the owner, the owner and my friend walked out and I wasn't supposed do it and sending you an article like this, but I gave the guy a crash course on how to use and control so we wouldn't have to dismantle everything so that he could use the gas and brake so my friend goes around the driver side. He eat, he sits down.

I explained just say look, all you gotta do is hold the break which is pushing for on on hand control and just let it roll back a little bit will drop rent will be good so yeah I am very familiar and I'd like to bring you notes from awareness to the community if you see especially a van and one of those handicap parking spaces please please please do not park so close, we can't drop drop wrap also if there is a it if you don't need the spot. Please don't park there and I'm not trying to have animosity but there's a lot of us out there who need it so is a little bit actually have a stored agricultural funny but it also thought to bring awareness when your car. How can control well hope out there that you need to make sure that it people are searching your car extremely where how to use the we have a technician literally drive through wall because he accidentally worked on the death of the long-awaited bucket wide open and so you know if you're going be living from your car you bring it in for service to whatever something to give somebody a crash course report on how to make sure the little jump jump most vehicles are easily accessible for an able-bodied person to use the normal controls and sell what I would instruct on and you instruct on everyone is on that.

It's most vehicles in hand controls how a panel guard to allow an obstruction so the disabled person's foot doesn't get honor under either the gas or brake pedal, but that's a quick release pole that takes about 1/2 a second to release and then the person you said fine and you should've let somebody use a regular fit to drive out but at least you were coasting that your story is happening all over the nation.

We at national conferences talk about what I believe is in Atlanta where a Walmart worker hit a pole and killed himself. It was at that in automotive shop can pull it in for tires or something and it's it's not it's not funny. There's so many risks that can be involved when someone shouldn't be driving at the adaptive equipment attempts to. I had a client.

He ran over other patio furniture there. Their spouse did just trying to move the vehicle in the lane in all of these vehicles are adapted on with the ability for the able-bodied person to use the regular controls with very very few exceptions to that time my mother actually drove came with us, you she drives we just take the controls off she drives.

Although it appeared all the way back to school this little bit longer than I like to set a quick note that will point of awareness for lot. Yes. The mechanics looking back on it later but certainly not a plump guy that was 15 years ago. Some of the technology today has lockout features on the hand controls some part of the instruction. When a person's getting their vehicle modified is to understand how to lockout the accelerator on their hand control so if someone wants to get curious on they are not gonna end up in a situation that they regret the moment you go. Great talk like you Robbie, thanks for coming on all right so Ms. Cindy I'm a question for you.

I hear a lot of times from from disabled people that knew that I come across you being in ministry. One of the things we do this is I'm in a wheelchair. I won't administer those who are bringing Jesus to them and I hear a lot of times while I didn't know I could drive and you just hear that despair, almost like I don't have the freedom I did not have it.

Can you tell us the various disabilities that have the ability to come to you or somebody and and and be able to drive in a longer line slightly you how it works. Depending on the disability. Okay, so I see everything from the 14-year-old disabled driver Hugh is getting a permit in really wants to be able to assume driving for the first time and that tends to be more like the cerebral palsy individuals spina bifida learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, high-level autism so that can be know why gamma and then there is really those folks you had something it occurred again that was a surprise.

A stroke a brain injury, spinal cord injury on that you know kind of change that course of their normal routine and they may have been driver but now cannot drive initially your story and then I see the dementia client where at that time state physician licensing agency. Another may be of a multitude of sources that adult children are asking the question is my parent with dementia able to drive safely. And obviously that's mild dementia that where there's the question of can they still maintain independence in the process of this early stage of the disease so wide variety of folks wide variety disabilities.

Everything from adaptive equipment which is your case you physical impairments are typically the easiest because you can really look at is there a way to interface and adaptive device to the strengths of this person to allow them to be on the road safely and in the more difficult ones typically are the folks with cognitive impairments because the amount of decisions that you make behind the wheel to safely navigate traffic can make quick judgments and be able to handle unexpected situations if that's impaired can lead to a dangerous situation, and so you know we need to assess all of those components and their safety. In regards to driving so Cindy can you tell me some of the more unique I offered some stories about different ways that you do that driving mind.

I just have pretty much in control of our use one hand to guess and break in one hand here with well sorry we have cut that short. That's are our music born into a break, kiwi, melon, suspense, all tell the story of a steering system. Okay I like to hear that. And also we come back appraisal by the week by the real bought books. I got it right this time you have a quick devotional thing that which I not hand controls and purity through time anyway. There is a line. This is crazy can I were listening to Christian car guy and I am on for Robbie D'Amore who is eight and here on the Christian car guy would bring the kingdom of God automotive platform and today were talking about driver rehabilitation and my personal stories on diving three years ago and have been given freedom through the service myself, Cindy, were were were pressed for time zone jump right in and you had a story for us before we left. We asked her to share some unique ways that people have been rehabilitated into the driving world so you had a unique method that you use for certain people can he tell us about well I just had one client. You ask about some the most unusual I guess modifications that this individual could not use his arms is part of the disability that impeded use of his arms that he had normal use of his legs so he had put steering system which is basically a steering wheel mounted on the floor to the left and well at all is his last fight to dock into a slip on boat shoe that was secured to that metal steering wheel on the floor and then use the right fit top rate gas and break and oh yeah, I mean it's just amazing and could access the horn and turn signals and windshield wipers and I take that video when I speak to groups because it's always the one at least people justified at the ability to function in each of the work every day. He held two jobs and very independent.

That is fantastic so that just proves your point that I've been saying I hear a lot of people say can I actually drive yeah contact actually leads me in the Ms. Nancy that might be the best time for you to come in how to somebody if there if there wondering thing get into this was the honey start this process.

That's a great question, and internationally. There are occupational therapist to work in the field of driver rehabilitation and so I would say really determine what your needs are, what kind of adaptive equipment that could be available to help you seek out someone in your local area who is a certified driver rehab specialist. You are welcome to contact us in this email we can also help me to help you know people across the nation that can do this and get an assessment know what unique interprofessional walking alongside IV to help you navigate this process and figure out how to get back to some great measures of independent great and if you want to find their website. It is posted on Christian car guy.com billing to bring you in here now. What are your insurance guy so what are some of the insurance needs or difficulties or you know how to smoke it insured after the you know they've got the car fixed up just gives wide enough. Generally, in most states, whatever is in the car when it leaves the factories only thing that's covered under the collision and the comprehensive so if you added the special lights are you the added running boards, or if you added special equipment for helping you get in and drive the car that's not covered under the basic policy as some of these can cost thousands and thousands of dollars. In some states it cost absolutely nothing that a head. The cost of this equipment, but it's got to be added. So what I recommend is if you got special equipment you added special modifications you want to email your insurance agent and say these are the things that I've added this is the cost they generally need some type of bill of sale that explains exactly what it is essay I would like to have this insured for theft and for collision. Let me know how much the cost will be. Then keep that email they send you back but this is expensive stuff and you want to make sure it's protected. That is a great we did have a client who recently called in and they had gone extra coverage on the hand controls they put in on their vehicle and said that damage was the you know the cost to get them repaired it on a goblet and controls have been damaged, said the insurance company was able to get them a new pair of hand controls and get new installation done that they had telnet staffing then that contacted the insurance agent like you are saying is that I do have this equipment to make sure it's insured in case there is an accident crazy.

I can after after getting this freedom. I can imagine off my hand controls are broken and then mama can drive me around for two more years ago so thank you so much Mr. Bill St. Cameron I got to go back to you sorry that one of the favorite things for me to bring it back to you little that is before I ever met you.

My kids had met you when you did your test charger testimony at their school and said they came home and sat came in his wheelchair. Mom and is also not Mike is he driving so you as my friend while snack. I don't know, and Mike and I kid you should ask him that way when you came to see me. Just knowing that and then going full-circle to now I see you out and about in the community and I love that. My local community as well, because I don't always get to see that you know into the story. But even recently in Iran and see a penny or sit there like all by myself. I think you are's daddy and had dinner and now it's just it really is heartwarming to see everything come full circle.

And you're right that if you have felt that since independence again and you lost it because something unfortunate might not even be your fault that right. Get your get you everything insured so you can move back into that process of independence as soon as you can island to add that the great thing that we get to experience his people.

Do you share with us how it impacts their lives in one of our clients that we saw. She called and she said you'll never guess what is it, where are you she said I'm at the mall and buying a wedding present for a friend and I have not been in the mall in four years so that freedom that people need driving, using everyday tasks. Getting to and from your job. You need to care for your family are getting to your grace, you store your doctors appointment taking kids to school, things I think a lot of people don't think about in terms of what you lose when something happens tedium. Ability to drive so the goal for returning to driving is to help you function in a way that lets you get that to some normalcy as well as to keep you safe while you're doing that so I want to go into our next section, which is called appraisal by the real black book research the Bible for understanding. But before I do, I just want to close on this, but by saying if you're out there.

You don't know if you can driver not search it out.

Search it out go to go to Christian car guy.com search look of these guys or find find someone in your local area who can give information about this. So for today's devotional since were talking about hand controls I want to go to what Paul does and not in the Bible and he compares us to the body of Christ and specifically I want to talk about us being the hands and feet of Jesus and since it's Easter.

We know the hands and feet of Jesus in a unique way.

Jesus's hands and Jesus feet were pierced for us. They were pierced for us and Jesus took up his cross for us and he calls us to forget to follow him to do the same. So if we are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ then when we reach out in love, people see our hands as pierced. What is that look like. That means that we have taken up our cross and said I will suffer in this age to bring love in Jesus Christ. So in this Easter season. Remember Jesus Christ took of his cross for you, took up his cross for me. Be willing to take up your cross the world around bring the kingdom of God to the people. Raj, this is been the Christian car guy. Jesus loves you.

Happy Easter happy Passover. Thanks for listening
