Now you have me.

What a good car. This is not Robbie the bill. I'm a regular on Robichaud, and Robbie has earned a vacation with his family and we pray it is a wonderful vacation. I've got the pleasure to be here with a good friend of mine, Diane Garrett, who does Asheville a whole lot better than I do. And we're going to talk about day trips I've gotten into the habit of going around the area and visiting our natural areas and our state parks in our wilderness areas and doing some hiking and were hoping that those of you in the audience will call in and share some of your valuable favorite day trips, particularly those that you would encourage other people to go to our call in number is 866-34-TRUTH 87884 866-34-TRUTH 87884.

Please call in and share one of your favorite day trips I was going to start with Diane and let her tell us about one of her favorite trips in the Nashville area good morning good morning Bell Asheville is a day trip even though it's two hours from when some, but it is well worth it to get up in the morning and drive to Asheville is a beautiful drop went to hit the mountains and it's just gorgeous but the daytrip is not a Specific Pl. in Asheville.

It is the city itself. It is so eclectic and unique in it's just amazing and from April until October. There is something going on all the time especially on weekends, music festivals, art festivals been there. My favorite honestly.

My favorite date to go would be on Friday and spend the day Friday and stay for the drum circle where everyone drums at Bridger Park downtown and you can participate you can dance you can hula hoop actually hula hoop and so I would hula down there, but it is just amazing. The drum circle is is fantastic and there wonderful ethnic local restaurants was your favorite restaurant my favorite restaurant is there so many to pick from. To pick one guy while I had never had Korean food and move – I live in Nashville for three and half years. But there's a Korean restaurant and I can't think of the name there right now that it is fantastic. But then there is mail out, which is an Indian restaurant downtown and I'll love mail so it got good there some restaurants in the state that I like to take a trip to go see it and there's some up in the blue and rocky areas that are fun. One of the areas I really love to go hiking alone is the backside a grandfather Benton are there a lot of people that have been up to the swinging bridge part of grandfather Mountain, but I like to go in from the backside, which is off the Blue Ridge Pkwy. beautiful place to park and there's a trail up there, Called Daniel Boone Trl., Dale Daniel Boone scout trail that's a little steep going up but you get to the top levels off some and there's some of the most unbelievable vistas that is in the entire state. There's a place called Watauga view that I usually like to hike up to now.

I love to get up early enough so that I catch the sunrise and if you look at my Facebook page, you'll see lots of sunrise pictures but I can go up there and start off at sunrise and get a good 8 mile hike in and still make it to blow in rock and find a good restaurant to have a late lunch.

Where else do you like to go well and asked around Asheville. There are great hiking trails. I don't hike. I broke my ankle years ago. As you normally heal plaintiff screws into cell rods and that my leg will baby.nice. I'm not taking the chance but the hiking trails. My friends were gone when around Paul's looking.

Let amazing photos that they would share with me, but what I did do not at sunrise but I would go with my friends we would put narratives on the French broad River Allis and float down the river just let down two hours cost nothing.

We had our energies and then we climb out at this some was sort of just a little dog restaurant that had open seating outside and have a hamburger will get you the Appalachian trail runs right up through that area and I don't know, always had been a dream of mine to do some hiking on the Appalachian trail of unity front friends that have done the Appalachian trail. Now I have that I have.

Have you heard about it, you know, know about it I know about Appalachian trail if you got my cousin my sons father. His father lived in blissful West Virginia, but had a farm in plan and that was Appalachian trail actually ran through it right through it goes from Georgia up to most of the North Carolina mountains and then it comes out in Virginia right. One of the places that I just really have discovered this year and love tremendously is to get up at there's a place called scales to set a trails Griffin Park in the Blue Ridge Pkwy. comes right to the ridge and is one of the highest points in the East Coast. The highest point in Virginia, but you can drive up this road is probably the roughest road I've ever taken my GP and and you get to the top and there's a great big parking area is fenced off and they've got a outhouse I may want to think about how summing out house, which is a whole lot better than no outhouse but the Appalachian trail comes through and they've got wild ponies in the last three times I went they had longhorn steer wandering around free and loose on the park and I understand there's some bears I missed a mama bear to baby beer by just a couple minutes but it is a neat time to go up this time a year because it's a lot cooler than it is in Winston, I did not mile hike a couple weeks ago and the vistas that the be on top of the mountains and every direction you look there's just wildlife. There's I think there are hundreds of wild ponies up there running around Phrygia, wild horses, but it's a neat place to go. You can come in from the other side and park like a normal person would take the kids down and see the. The horses in the ponies might even see some of the longhorn steer, but on the backside. If you're serious hiker is a way to get to the top of the mountain and to be able to put in some real mileage with just unbelievable views that what else do you like to do and that the actually very well.

I do want to say something about not I want to go on this daytrip on the families of the backside where I don't have to climb anything because I would love to see the ponies but also in Nashville.

There are bears in her peers to come up on your front porch when I moved back to Winston in November. The moving truck was there was 8 o'clock at night and they were still moving and I was standing on the front yard and one of the movers set look because of their right to press my front yard and think, as I'm in the house but again Asheville.

There are just so many places local art galleries with with you been to the one on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. There's an art gallery it on the Parkway. I have the very first thing I did, I did note anyone when I'm with Daschle took my dogs and we did drive on the Parkway and I stopped there and that was wonderful. But I love the ones in Nashville because I knew so many artists people that had their art, their paintings, and local galleries, and it was just fantastic and again the music festivals that it I just I can't say enough about Nashville just it is an adventure to have you been to the Blue Ridge music Center up near Mount airy and I've never been there.

Oh we took him but wife stepfather were looking after him and we got him for a road trip that we needed to find we we have a minute memory care unit were trying to find just the right distance, but from Winston we can go up to Mount airy and we can get on the Parkway and there is an awesome place up there if you love the whole deal. Summer music if you love that the banjo player and if you look I made that they got about. I think they had about 12 people sit around and it was a jam session and it's open to the public and they do it every week. You can Google the. The music Center, Blue Ridge Pkwy. music Center. They got a wonderful page really great little little museum there, but isn't awesome place to go for an afternoon if you're anywhere close to it. A lot of the audience. You've got to have places you really like to take your family and you like to get away for a day.

I would like to hear from you. What is a really great daytrip.

You remember that you'd like to recommend others also like to encourage folks to Google Grayson Park and Mount Rogers this where the area that I went to this, called scales trail, but if you Google that it is a really neat place to take the family just the drive up to the front gate of the park is in the dry. We appreciate you Tinian and if you know anybody that might enjoy talking about a good daytrip letter noted Tinian with that in Rome you got lived like the let other people know about this is a great opportunity to call in and share daytrip would be good in your area are: numbers 866-348-7884 866-34-TRUTH 87884 and our topic are our favorite day trips that Diane was talking about a wonderful place with God in our hometown called old Salem anyone that comes to visit me.

Of course, in Winston we go to old Salem. It is just so perfect to spend the day and all that, even in the summer when it's hot, it is still so well worth it. It is just tell them about that is at a place were we send all the old people in town. Is that what we call it old Salem. I don't know directly. I you probably develop is better than 50.

I know that I just that one time Winston-Salem with two different towns that one town was Winston. One town was Salem and Salem was set up by the Moravians in the Moravians were some of the earliest founders in the country and they came over with a special grant because they were persecuted in the Switzerland area of the old world and they set up really neat tailless been around for hundreds of years, the, the second oldest women's college in the United States is in Winston-Salem in the center of's old Salem what you like about also. I just love walking around and then an end and I love the people dressed up in the costumes that working all sound lamp. I don't know what year that would be billed to you when you said it was they were well-founded before 1776, and most of that the costumes that they wear in the got it refurbished back to around that age. Age of the country. Well it it is just wonderful on it and it's a find.

I have like what is it like blacksmith shops that you can walk and I used to take my son when he was little down there just if you been in the museum. They have an awesome three-story museum in there with all kinds of the periodic material. I mean as far as the 1770s and then they also have an area for toys really neat museum to spend some time in one interesting thing as I have nine several friends. My son was came back from Florida was in the wedding at that that bread. A lot of people are getting married I think is the bridge that goes to the museum and it is very interesting, but of course Whiting liking to eat the sugar cake. You have to have sugar cake we get all Salem and then the raving chicken pies fantastic. Have you done the carriage ride to the got horse carriage rides and what are those two wheel contraptions that you think you'll kill your cell phone if you you get out of that they've got it. A tour group now where you can do a tour LOL I know what are they called are they call if somebody remembers with those two wheel they had a member Ali when I lived in Raleigh and I thought verse about theirs know when I would deftly follow-up before I the motor even started, but yes if you don't want.

I can even walk all xylem's but that is a nice way to do all Salem. The place I love to go is called Lindell Gorge Lindell gorges up around blowing rock grandfathers great during the week, but the parking just got awful up there so I started going over and doing some hiking and Lindell Gorge that there some places in Lindell Gorge where you can park and roll a wheelchair down and look at just unbelievable views on the other side. It's a whole lot more wilderness.

There's a place called table rock and there's a place called Hawk bill and the one of the easiest walks down to the bottom of the gorge is called Spitz Ridge.

Now Spitz Ridge is about 2 miles long. It's all downhill to get to the river, which is wonderful.

You just have to remember that that means it's all uphill coming back but I mean it is just the most picturesque view data in the. The bottom and then if you go in the other direction.

You can go up to table rock that's a strenuous hike. It's a good hour hour and 1/2 would not go up there with a walker or cane.

Most folks that could do a tough hike can get to the top and you just is breathtaking not been up there with people with dogs and I've been up there with kids that were nine years old so it's not that difficult. And then on the backside if instead of going up from the parking lot at table rock instead heading toward table rock you can go in the other direction. Now a lot of people don't know about that trail that trails nowhere near as populated is the one going up to table rock, but it is one of the neatest easiest hike she'd ever do it is on top of the ridge and I've got every time I go I think I'll walk about two minutes and that I just stop start praying that I just looking around on both sides in every direction diffuse just take my breath that I just can't help but to stand there as they got this is that awesome day.

This is just a beautiful view I've got pictures for that hike on my Facebook page and their link to through the Christian Car Guy ship, but that is a part of North Carolina did everybody needs to visit one side or the other but if you really looking for a great North Carolina hike go up to table rock and I gotta say that the road to it is still little challenge and I wouldn't take my new car to get down there, but I'd take an older card. I'd certainly take a Jeep to get to it. You would want to print a map because you get dad it's about a 7 mile dirt road before you get to the park at the top of the mountain but up Google and will Gorge Ed Google Spitz Ridge and Google table rock and not look at some of the pictures and look at my Facebook page and look at some of the sunrise pictures of those areas and if you are anywhere close to the Boone area of the blowing rock area, plan on going over the live will Gorge at least going and seeing the falls apart the false a really nice side and an easy hike down to view the backside is calling to tell us that some places you like to take trips and place you think others should go to give us a call will be right back rock that I had mentioned pilot Mountain if you're in the Piedmont pilot Mountain is awesome place to go during the week. It's not a place that would go on the weekend.

I have driven up there and had to turn around because it's Pat. It's gorgeous. That's a really great place to go sunrise, which I've done a few times, but they've got a couple trails up there at one trail. There's an awful lot of rockclimbing and repelling and to be able to walk up that trail and watch all these different small groups to some rockclimbing is really really neat what and to take the kids with you and had the kids watch these teenagers and older for folks jump off the mountain with a rope tied to is a really what neat way to spend some time and we got a place called grandfather. I'm sorry we got a place called hang in rock Dragon rock, Scott's beautiful trails. I like to go up there because you can do a circle you can do a circle of there's about a Nine Mile Cir. that you can do but a lot of people go up and hike the dying in rock is this the name of the park but there some other trails are even more beautiful than hang in rock when Imes called Moore's knob and there's a tower that you go to the top of the tower it's a rock tower at the vistas from their awesome and you can see pilot Mountain in a distance, but that we got some pictures that you can look at now. Charlotte's an interesting area if you want to go down there and enjoy their traffic talk could you talk about some folks places but should considered and in the Charlotte area. Yes, I will tell you this, and this is a great talking cohosts with Bill because he's hiking at doing cities because I don't hike again.

My ankle excuse, but in Charlotte. My Favorite Pl. in Charlotte is called Noda area.

It is that it is in uptown Charlotte and to me it is sort of a little mini Asheville area is very eclectic and unique.

With with different art galleries, ethnic restaurants, but my favorite place in that area together is is called the Noda company store Noda spell that one capital in small and capital DNA least is easy to remember. And that's the area that's the part of Charlotte that and then at best the name of the store to the notices light with do what we used to say is teenagers Noda will push the flood to do the well and it had been at this company sort.

I don't know what it was before it could have been an old store, but you can go in there and you can have meals and its local food they have. They has food trucks there during the way. But there's always food and drinks to order while you're there at, but you can shop there and is anything from really nice linens to inexpensive T-shirts that are again unique and artsy and my very favorite thing is they often has live music and I love music and a good friend of mine. Oddly enough I met after I moved to Charlotte I mean to Asheville lit is from Charlotte and lives in Charlotte and she was playing in Asheville at a festival and I matter and she was just amazing and then she invited me to come to hear her perform at the Noda company store and I will always go back to well is one reason but two reasons to hear her name is Christy snap and she is amazing.

And she's also an ordained minister and she has a church in Charlotte that you are talking about an old house and tell folks a little bit you I lived here for a long time. I even rented office space about a quarter-mile from them and didn't go into an old house until the last few years. Tell folks a little bit about granola and the interesting thing about right now.

The house was ice went there a few times early and I gauge things, my son is 30 to when he was probably nine or eight I would go to an outhouse. I would have when am I trying to say or exhibiting art exhibits, but then lectures on that you will guide at that list fascinating to go to sit there and that see the art and then here the expert explain about the heart, so I would do that a lot. Then I would take my son, my husband and I would take our son and we just camp out on the front lawn.

We bring our dog and brother Frisby and bring something date it was always just great. Then when mine was probably around 12 were now the house. I'm not sure they still do it but they have a cam that you can go to for children can sign up to get and there's a swimming pool there and were known to use the pool granola and I got anybody got to you. This helps Winston-Salem is Winston-Salem because of the rentals. The rentals are the ones that got Wake Forest University set up in Winston-Salem and an extension of the land that Wake Forest to set up on his were Noda village and then were Noda villages connected to the Noda house. So you had at one time he had granola house and then everything that was set up to take care of this really advanced fencing form that the rentals owned was down the hill and they turned that into the village where the house is been turned into and also Museum and its just a really neat way to spend some time but attached to the museum that got art exhibits that come through on a regular basis. So if you go to visit anybody in the Winston a area you want to Google granola house and see what's going known. We also would love you to call Leanne 866-34-TRUTH 87884. You've got to be proud of your area. There's got to be a really neat daytrip. You want folks in your area to know about.

I would like you to share it. It 866-34-TRUTH 87884. I have one last thing that about Windows timeout were now the house and when all the gardens behind it are beautiful and people hot hold weddings there, but you can start right now. The house walked through the gardens down to the shopping areas and they straight through to Wake Forest and it's fantastic that you know Wake Forest has a museum of archaeology. I believe that is really neat that I've heard lots of great things about if you're in the area that you're looking for something to do it be good to do Google Wake Forest Museum city.

We've got a call or let's see what we've got. Good morning, good morning. Now I can hear you. I hope you have a list morning. Yes ma'am. Thank you so much for: in what you like to do in our area on. I think Bill and I love their wonderful dinner at his or her particular store you'd like to mention I've been there twice by rock identity.

Identity reached the fight. Peak yes is all my good. I hear my friend not employed and he did it at Whitney we get together, you get the run and I did that the five peak in five hours well that's a good good trick and beautiful you get pictures when you go up yet that yeah I've talked to lots of people that have gone to hang in rock. And when you talk to him about that rock tower.

They look at you like you're crazy like you just made that up if you tried to tell people about that. The hike from the campground up around more snob I my grandchildren that I'm her and I cooked and camping stay there camp by day and we did about three hours how you might loved it when we got up there so I recommend you block you want to go camping claiming Michael to go hiking and look at the mountain far away from Virginia, my Lord so I beautiful place to start. Thank you for bringing it that it was very good spam. Roxanne, this is this is Diane.

When was the last time you were in Nashville. We went over there and we went to the year ago, I can't because he said you you like antique stores in there so many around there but there's a great one called Rinne renovation hardware store that is fantastic. Really yeah downtown. Yes, thank you so much for calling me and I hope you keep the station on your prayer list.

The I hope you get back up to some of the other places we talk hiking. Whale.

I look forward to some other callers calling in and sharing some of their favorite time will not waiting since it is my scan. And we know that Christian Car Guy show were talking about daytrip we were thinking about some of the ones that we've enjoyed the most and I lived in Raleigh I went to high school in Raleigh, but I never went to the museum but I'd love to hear about it.

I lived in Raleigh to but that was from 2011 to 2013 and I did get to the art museum. The Raleigh Art Museum and it is wonderful that exhibits then they have the visiting exhibits are fantastic. They have a great restaurant there to eat but also one that really interesting things about that Museum is the trails all around the air. The museum is part of the museum and there is sculpture on those trails and you can bike which I can bike, although I can't hike I can ride a bike solid bike you could bike for mouse and walk those trails and and you still see art to you in our area and our state there. Lots and lots and lots of paved trails in Winston-Salem.

There, a bit. We got 50 miles of paved trail there's a neat site you might want to consider called hiking project.com that if you go to hiking project.com you can use their map and you can find all kinds of different trails close to you and it will give you a description of the trail. What you will see it and will be rated by other people in the be pictures but is a really neat neat site that close to the museum in Raleigh.

There is a fairgrounds of the state fairgrounds is there at the flea market on Saturdays.

Is will worth going to. It is absolutely huge. If you looking for something fun to do, close to Raleigh and you've got the time go check out the state flea market. It is just a really neat adventure in itself. I can around the state fairgrounds because the state fair. I love Paris I love the Dixie classic fair out civil right every rod and the North Carolina State fair is fantastic. Yet there a lot of regional and local museums. People just don't think about it Mount airy.

We've gotten also museum mods. There was one little thing I wanted to go see in the museum and I talk my wife into going up and the really fixed Mount airy justice. A neat place to go to drive around the got some wonderful restaurants but I talked her into going to the museum at we were amazed we were able to spend a good 2 1/2 three hours going through that that Museum in Mount airy Ed there is all kinds of information on musicians. There was all kinds of things and Andy Griffith. There were all kinds of things on one of the world's largest granite mines is up there at the history of it and then the Siamese twins. I don't know if you've ever heard about the Siamese twins that were part of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey. They retired in that area.

There's a fascinating section on that is a fascinating section on firetrucks and firemen. One of the worst fires in the nation evidently was in that area and that's worth going and then there's a little town called Hillsville up in the mountains. I don't know that's a part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy. that I used to love taking my wife to the really wasn't much you could do with most of the meals were really reasonable is a little restaurant there called the hardware store and it's right across from the courthouse, so we saw the sun museum and we went over it in the basement of the courthouse. There is just a really nice size small museum that was well worth the money. So what I'm saying to you is Google your your area your counties next to you and see if there's some small museums that you haven't gotten around to go check them out and tell people about go in and see in his ear. A lot of folks that just get stuck at home watching the TV yeah I tell people what I go in the jail that I talked to that the inmates are so you know it's fine to watch that show for the first time.

It's great to watch the news. There's nothing wrong with the sports but when you watching a show when you know what they going to say before they say it may be you not be in the best steward of your time, get out and go do something and I want to add to that one more thing about museums again take your children that the museum bells talk about Mount airy what wonderful daytrip for for you and your family to it and take against the law but is perfect you been to Morehead city you been to Beauford yes all my gosh that that the billionaire city is I do scuba diving and one of the best scuba diving places on the entire East Coast is Olympus out of the Morehead city but across the water from them.

On the other side is Beauford Beauford's got a museum.

They are on the Marine that the beginning of the Coast Guard and it started from. All along the coast.

The used to have these little clubs and they had some boats ready if there was a shipwreck, then everybody would come in the go at that rescue people that they don't really add too much about that part of the reason you did that is afterwards. You got to keep all the stuff that washed up on the shore but they had these groups that set up these rescue Ed, I mean unbelievable what they would do to help rescue the people off the butt, but that Maritime Museum is Beauford is well worth the drive to go dead and see all the live got just on the topic of how that evolved into the Coast Guard with a lot of neat things in the North Carolina Outer Banks. I loved Outer Banks.

That's where I grew up my mother was grew up in Southampton County, Virginia, and that's where we sub spent our vacation in the summer.

Two weeks in the Outer Banks and it was fantastic. That is my I have to say love North Carolina never want to live in any other state but the Outer Banks is just amazing.

Have you done the Kitty Hawk of core I've done everything up one of the things I remember clearest of my mind, one of the neatest trips I ever took was we went to Kitty Hawk and we just accidentally stumbled across the near ration that they've got a parks specialist there that doesn't near ration of all about the first flight and it's been taped.

I'm sure there's ways to see it, but it is one of the neatest things I would've paid real money to have gone and seen him produce that on a stage somewhere, but to see them do it there in front of the plane.

It was used for the first control flight.

One of the neatest vacations I ever did was go went up and doing Kitty Hawk that we've got Paula and see if I can push the right button here. Paula, can you hear me there we go. Paul, are you there will okay there some Museum some aquariums all along the North Carolina coast another's one in Wilmington. We really really love. I don't remember this one on the Outer Banks to is there areas that I can think about that but is speaking about Outer Banks. Now I'm coming up at a loss. The plight where the owner so ruin it when yeah but it's about that. About the first settler writer that I have seen that so many times and that is so wonderful will and that's a Manny outright guys there.

We, yes, we appreciate you to in the end, I hope you've heard about it thought about going to some places that you had thought about before. With love for you to go to Christian Garg. I page on Facebook and like us and friend us and would love for you to go to the Christian car guy.com. We appreciate you tuning in. I hope you have a wonderful week.

Thank you Bill for letting me join you
