Where Does God Go On Vacation?

When I asked my kids and I think kids remember when I said what would you like to go to summer morning place in the world what you say why, moons, is nobody sorry member Wally world wide Wally world welcome radio show vacation Bible style before you even start right was that all rep and Robbie that is a lot of fun. I'll tell you about where we put these things together so we kind of you can come to tell by that intro, we may be going where no man has gone before. Literally. Today I'm a Christian. Part I show hope you enjoy this question that I'm going to ponder with you where does God go on vacation and we got a little tidbit to add into that don't get stuck in the mud so yes where does God go on vacation. If you ever pondered that well you could tell you before we get into that I have to mention that in National Lampoon's vacation right did you notice there that Clark Griswold was asking his kids in front of Mr. Wally you know where they want to go this summer and you can see what that might have to do. God wants to go and then interestingly his son Rusty. Rather than saying Wally world which was highly embarrassing because there is Mr. Wally. He says Hawaii well very critical today show is no that Obama means family, no one gets left behind.

And I love stitches will comment that he makes Derek as you make, remember that from Lilo and stitch or forgotten. I that's a cool thing on vacation especially when you get a little older and there's those that are with you anymore and so Wally world that I mean this is a situation where we we are right this still haunts me.

I actually came out with it.

Vacation Bible style last year but I still think it's a great question some to chew on and so this year just seemed like the vacation season is off to a slower start doesn't feel like but here we are.

The week before 4 July and so for many many many people. That means vacation so what is vacation Bible style meanness wonderful question. Where does God go on vacation so this week I do another radio show on Saturdays with my dear friend Dr. James Banks who wrote the book prayer for particles in his ministry is all about prayer in that little piece called encouraging prayer and last week EP mentioned something. He mentioned that many times that it's a really good thing that sometimes in prayer just get in God's presence, whatever that looks like for you and hang out without any agenda like just to hang out with God just hang out and so this week I really wanted to practice that he had mentioned it and it sounded really fun. So every those who know me well know, I like to crawl up in the father's lap in the morning and I was just hanging out like you now here we are tannin and where you want to get what you want, you know, and so as I was there yesterday morning. Literally this happened yesterday morning I Onset man, this question just pops into my mind and so before I even had a second to think about it it's came right out of my mouth and Michael God where you go on vacation and he got sent to twinkle in his eye. When you ask him a question that you can tell he's got a love give me the answer that you and I could see that that was exactly the case and he says will Robbie you know when I went on vacation. Think about it it's right there, go look it up. Go study it and and he just knew that immediately. I was like he told me the Holy Spirit said IN Genesis 2 to write the seventh day God finished all his work. You been doing so is 70 rested from all his work here we have God on vacation right so what what is that look like so knowing me yeah you know God knew I would jump into that word rested and I bet a lot of people out there know that in Hebrew. That word is Shabbat. You might her to call the Sabbath and so there's some sounds and there that would give us some clues to those letters which would give us clues to what's inside the word of Shabbat which means rest in Hebrew, and the first letter that's sound you hear is is called the Shin and I knew I've known this for some time, but I never have put together yesterday morning.

Actually, that in the ancient away, but the way that Moses himself wrote that letter he wrote it to look like a tooth. Okay. And the way that it's written in today's Hebrew.

It looks like fire and it's in the word fire.

It also has to do with the tooth and so I was just pondering what is it to have to do with vacation. What does fire have to do with vacation what to tooth and fire have in common and so my little pre-BP brain I begin the brag on where, what, where, and what is it what is Holy Spirit since Robbie you know this that both fire and teeth oxidize fuel when you chew your food especially if you're a sheep and we have to be by sheep chew the cud in this part of what makes him clean and so is it just chilling. Now they have stopped eating there no longer bringing food into their mouth okay and this has everything to do is Shabbat's and now we've brought in the food now are going to rest and were going to begin to oxidize the food that we've already taken in and were going to chew on it. Fire does the same thing right at choose on what it burns right up but it's still an when you think about what rest is supposed to refuel you. I mean this is a perfect it's it's it's so old God as I start to think about that what you are like fueling on what you do and the fruit of everything that you done in creation like checking out how cool is the Big Dipper in like manner. How amazing is the Grand Canyon is so I can just see you got your you're like a Jesus, Adam, let's go check out the green and mannerly this thing is awesome. This picture them heading off like that and when you think about that group of of you know people there that is the second letter in Shabbat right that's a bet and that bet has to do with the household of God and so you when you hear that, but sound. It's in the word about that you know because Abba that be has to do with family and so it's in the word son, which is been in Hebrew and so you here you have the father and the son and of course Adam, you know the other kid and and the Holy Spirit are all off on this adventure. There chewing on you know what it is that they have just created a meanness beyond culture. Robbie got lots to tell you that. And so you can sit there in out like a sheep and you can ruminate on the amount and and and and then the third letter is fantastically beautiful. It is called out of and it's the last letter in the Hebrew alphabet. So when Jesus showed up in the book of Revelation. Since we know he spoke Hebrew. He said I am the Alpha and I am the top. That's the last time on the end of the alphabet and that means that letter is a picture of the truth now since Jesus is the word. And Jesus is the truth seat. They were not only chewing on what they had created. They knew the whole story and they were chewing they were chewing okay. Just like oh baby this is just and resting and fueling okay so as we picture this beautiful picture of what vacation Bible style might've look like this first vacation with think about.

Don't get stuck in the mud what is mud well that's a Dharma. Okay, that's the stuff were made out of. We were made from glass and so our flesh we get kinda stuck in the mud, which is what when John Bunyan wrote Pilgrim's progress as you might guess that we have another episode of Christian Car Guy theater which has to do with the slough of despond, which is the mud that valiance can be stuck in, but it also has everything to do with your vacation story because quite often. If you like Robbie you get stuck in the mud rather than chewing the area earlier picture and kinda what it is. So I tell this story in that we want to think about your stories and when my daughter was 14 years old I had this great idea was to I wanted to go on an adventure with my family and I wanted to rent a sailboat a big sailboat like 30 feet out of Tampa Bay and I thought my daughter would just love this. I knew my wife what she loves the water, but she did those sailboats are boring to some people because he noted this, go with the eye. So when we come back here you little stuck in the mud meticulous see that our help comes from the Lord. Psalm 121 and is not as snow. Where does God go on vacation and don't get stuck in the mud. When we left our hear you Mike, relate to the song that was playing there that we were on this sailing vacation was she singing a song along thought never crossed her mind till later on in the adventure so off it and and she was so boarding and eat you know a 14-year-old has expectations on vacation okay and her father was not understanding this, I thought I have arranged the most amazing vacation for my 14-year-old Cenci hated. I mean she would in a come out on the deck and she would just she would just in a course I was not hearing her because I was, you know, this should be the greatest thing ever. Here you are, how could you not you know refuel. How could you not to just how could you not chew on the beauty of the Tampa Bay and all is the and now she was bored Bob about. But here's it's a wonderful lesson in how I get mad and I begin to rage in order to try to take control like Juergen have fun with you like it or not, just like the Chevy techies in their view. Remember, after he tied his aunt to the roof and all the stuff and he said you know Juergen have fun with you knowing this is the kind of the situation is I'm raging but it speaks so much to what's going on right now is if I had listened to her and tried to empathize with her than I could've help her mourn the loss of her expectations and because Blessed are those are born to be comforted rather than morning with her. I raged night and so what happened was she kept turning up the volume. Just like any child of that sum hurt people hurt people and so front you're not hearing me.

I'm in a keep turning up the volume until you hear me, and so she was turning up the volume and her mother was getting involved and we were stuck in the mud on this vacation and tell our help came from the Lord. We were on the note out into the ocean.

We gotten out of the bay and we got a call from the guy we rented the sailboat from he says you need to get in is a bad storm coming and we couldn't see the storm where we were and he goes it's bad.

Don't try to sail through it. You need to take down the sales because Windsor to be like 60 miles an hour and so you need to get in and I'm like okay 10 four so this was the most amazing thing I ever saw Wheatley. If you've ever seen the bridge that goes over Tampa Bay. It's a beautiful thing. It's a toll bridge and when we are on the one side of it. The sky was blue. It was wonderful is a pretty big bridge when we got on the other side of that bridge was like oh my word. It was a hurricane Ivan. I mean we came out of the of the bridge. I was taken down the sales per what the man said thank goodness because I mean you could not see it was raining so hard and the waves were upcoming over the bow of the boat. So as soon as we could cross the bridge. My daughter, my wife are adamant and this wave comes over and washes Tammy's tells your beautiful red raised body shop tile that she loved like that. I've never heard the end of my life that toweled thing and they just started to freak out and I started to freak out to because there are a lot of rocks over on the left-hand side, and there was a buoy that you had to find in order to get back and it was raining so hard you couldn't see and I couldn't get the compass on the heading I needed in order to find the buoy to my daughter comes down in the cabin about she sit there with mother.

Do I need to call my friends and tell them I'm not, meets he ever see him again because these waves are up to the lake and crashing you know she not realizing that sailboats himself draining innovate but this was really scary to her and I wasn't on unafraid because I couldn't figure out where I was and I knew there were rocks over on the left side of us that we could crash eventually I have to send those two out on the bow to try to find the bully because I can't see it from the rain, Tammy, Mariah, put on your lifejackets and carefully carefully go out on the bow and you've got to look for this buoy as if we don't find the bully. We are going to crash and it's gonna be like oh my God, now while you're chewing on this story a minute was Mariah any longer board right to I may not of heard my daughter. But God did. And you know she will still tell you that she hated the vacation except that part of the adventure where we live through the storm where the weather started getting rough.

The tiny ship was tossed not for the courage of the fearless get the whole picture. It was like God totally saved my bacon on that deal and that that vacation which looked absolutely horrible.

Now is one of the legendary Clark Griswold going to see Wally world kind of thing you know where it is just amazing how God told you bacon out of fire Jerry yeah have been telling a story and stuff it in a and and the thing is is you going into the beginning of the story in our mind and and in your mind and now I've been there. Also, will you just think Got the perfect plan I've got that perfect vacation and all the sudden you realize you in your mind, it would been the perfect vacation for me and not think about okay as Bobby.

Not that the them out enough taken Myron Taylor to tours of battleships and staff are in love history and so to me that's a great vacation get on there and start looking they'll say man you have to look at everything every nut and bolt you know and is in there so frustrated timely anything like that that has history to me how when a great new looking hail on the I don't know if I climbed out electric chair to have to take it or not you mean is that one quite as much fun for them. But I'll tell you there is no giving them the pride that they felt when they found that buoy okay.

I mean they were like they saved our dad there is that we made it there it is. Can you see it in and we were off course, but they spotted it in a did you know and so they took all kinds of pride in the fact that that they essentially were instrumental in saving the been the minnow from being lost so what's your story and I'll where God gave you somebody asks whatever that look like or maybe it was just the ultimate chewing vacation you'd like to hear 866-34-TRUTH 878844. We got Jemison Richmond, Virginia: in and he too apparently is a sailor's are very excited about this Jim you're on the Christian car guy/sale guy morning really not sailor since 19 like it was my first couple years of selling up had a 22 foot Morgan Delta Ville off of the bail jacket take River area went into great… Hmmm was a nice summer sailing day we were out sailing with my my my dog out without my wife in the back. She does not like spelling that much, but we were newly married and made quite clear clear their children, yet more selling my why exactly do you.

You're telling my story, but we were outselling. It was a great sale and all the fun I just noticed the water start of what happened basically in a nutshell, the perfect storm occurred storm from the land met with the storm water and when it joined the waves just just started churning like crazy and became huge waves over blowing the boat was feeling tremendously over.

I had to sail you how to get the sales down and my dog was up with the product and not fun. We had to literally had to cut the lantern so to still come down I can get it. So it came crashing down onto the deck the dogs out there, what will happen to you smart enough to my creative natural products and we were the mercy of the waves.

They were horrible at the 22 footer we were tossed to and fro.

I immediately looked at each other. We just looked at me that we were bad and we just gave it to God that God we love Lord and we just knew that he would control the see the storm creates Dominican, we did not complete God, please help us. Because we work tossed and thrown all over the place of water coming and it was just taught and it was documented that particular storm for both went over so that the Coast Guard had to take and rescue people. We survived in a 22… 20 short and when we got back everyone at the Marino sauce coming in and meet look like a we were we were twined out, complete, and we were rightly reaches. We were just on struts motor.

Did you have that you have a grade that was an Evinrude in the back that up and it was worthless that Evinrude didn't do anything just turned because it was constantly out of the water so it was left five hours didn't do anything I tell you the Morgans of the making boat and out. Knowing about and I you now have my respect Morgans have more respect than I've ever had. That's from home that we ended up getting a 30 foot Morgan and like I said my wife. It quite clear and are miraculously we were told we couldn't have children and now it's hard to get rid of about my wife found out she was pregnant. I went to the Marino on a cold, cold, damp November day and God went with the broker and said hey listen the industries on the market and it was a well documented crackdown there and no one knew about and by the time I got home it was sold sign and I am curious that we guys look back on your adventure and you chew on that particular storm which you were tested. It is sounds like to me I be wrong that that's now part of your testimony something that you hold down close to your heart you know I got kind of sage I can follow. We share a lot what happened at our church. Big large church and everyone was excited about are done sure what we went through all the detail how my white prayer warrior and she just said Jim on Dell on the what is going crazy like bad it out. Didn't realize how serious it was and floated out the dog was smart. He got out out and we found out below all the way up the Ballinger need shaking like a leaf. Now it was a water dog. It was a scary meal. He put on her like this course, but it was shot just I just looked at my wife about going home. I got a light brown. Just lose it here storm was powerful but yes, it established a log but it but it did enforce the fact that no more selling for us that was made you for climbing that you don't really yeah I just love the Sheridan was a great. It was a scary moment the same time.

It was a moment of showing the greatness of our God we serve a mighty God and great dialogue listening to yourself to get up and go, 96 Road Master wagon all by making our own tank car and a lot of the card. How may times God the rescue it in in so many different ways it's it's just phenomenal look back and then you here's my tennis toy. They lost their luggage and they thought, oh, this guy were in the mud, but as it turned out as she described my producer Beth and that was the best vacation ever. The freedom of not having any luggage to worry about ever. That worked out.

You know, it's a beautiful thing. How often you know what we think is the end of the deal was actually help coming from the Lord to save her bank.

You know, in our own minds.

We can at least speak for myself. I have everything planned out in the way I want things to go to what I thinks the perfect vacation of the perfect trip of the perfect stop and most of the time when I think is perfect those around me, realize it's not perfect and and and hen then when things start kind of crumbling or not going the way you think and the need to sort turned of a godly sort of in a sort of back with him at the Sabbath. What is that about us is really just release it and not have an agenda, just just just okay. God is in your hands. Now we are talking about the significance I got Chris were talking about a vacation here, but I don't want anybody to miss that that happens every six days you get 1/7 okay and it's all about chewing, but it's all about family what you think. We come together on a Sunday and when I think of my own life on my most significant breakthroughs in my faith happened like opinion sin up against my faith to begin with all happened as a result of a dear brother or sister who was transparent enough to share with me struggles that they were going through so I could see the availability of Jesus in those struggles and and that's why we come together as family.

Ohana means family and in the body of Christ is all about that Jerry yeah and you know probably the worst were the worst things we can do as far as not let my light shine and sorted dampen the spirit is we just don't share how God is impacted us in the situation. This will in this situation we see somebody else going through something very similar, we can say you know what I may not know exactly, but I think I got a pretty good idea, and this is what God did for me doing that situation so you know Plymouth valiant is on vacation, except limited progress. When you look at Psalm it's one of the Psalms of the sense and it means steps to step up what I missed in the actual slough of despond from the book until this morning was that those steps are like the Psalms. He's talking about, to look up the clearly John Bunyan knew that he was getting use Psalm 121 and the steps that he referred to that help describe we call the bridge in our episode to be put on solid ground, which is Jesus. He is the word, and so if you get into the word. You'll find Jesus and then you find solid ground. Now remember, son slowdown, Jesus walked everywhere he went, got it all done in 33 years.
