Have financial capital financial.com. This is the gold shell yesterday with Tom McMillan, former University of Maryland All-American basketball players, a teammate of Lynn Elmore John Lucas back in the day three term US representative to Congress and he runs an organization called essentially lead one and they are concerned about the N IL era. Not that they are against an IL but they're worried that it's being used as a recruiting inducement and I don't think there's any question that is being utilized as a recording of this, but I'm just not sure is that big a deal to be perfectly honest, we had recruiting inducement since we've had recruiting David Redpath from Ohio University, our friend, or joins us when we talk about athlete advocacy in college. He joins us on the Adam gold show how long of recruiting inducement been going on sir with Adam for reference for friendly almond they've been going on at your you want to face or beginning of time but really you go back to college athletics first started in the admitted 1800s. You know going back to the 19th century, there's always been recruiting a dysfunction that I always told people Adam that it's never been permissible to offer anything more than tuition and room and board, books, and feasibly since 1951 and then certainly the stipend often on several you that used to be called laundry, betting that we have the largest site but you've never been able to offer anything more than that. But however we've been giving into strengths, whether under the table or over the table canceling inducement nerve you know you'll have this nice walker, boardinghouse, or you're going to have this academic center and all these other things right so one second please unsupported. I had a mission verify; it's quite all right yet inducement have been going on forever.

David Redpath is joining us here you what I've talked about the collegiate model before and invariably we get to the part of the conversation where we say if they were starting from scratch. It would not look like this. What should the system look like well I think you know I'm a fan of color, sports, and I know you are and I think we all will have to look in the mere what it's become. Because, essentially, there's nothing minor-league about it it's it's major-league you know what you have at University of North North from me that the hundred 10,000 people in a in a football stadium in and has a $250 million athletic budget that's major-league and we need to accept that we were going to start over again and truly have it be about education.

There's ways to do that right and you know you can eat what we eat groups that I work with to clear the great group. We propose what things were would be you don't know what campus recruiting you would base your be like high school your team with the work of the people you have on campus, only the on-campus recruiting no nontraditional seasons. You have good time for academic remediation to get people null up to snuff academically. That would be the focus that those are just a few things that that that could happen.

And honestly I think people would still watch even in that scenario, but we also watch even in the scenarios that were going through right now I do not buy as you know, Adam, that this is the end of college courses. People watch college sports. If we are giving wheelbarrows of cashers football players wind out of the walkabout and as Jimbo Fisher said, and I also been going on since the beginning of time were just now seeing it so we just can't go around and just feel better because we think of being hidden right yes we think it's actually been taking care of its aboveboard mouth.

These athletes have value and they should be able to realize that it's actually I think television ratings would go up if we were giving out wheelbarrow wheelbarrows full of cash at the end of games come up with a million-dollar FFF. If the team in baseball, especially if there's like a game-winning touchdown.

We just like instead of confetti. We just dropped cash from the blood you honestly, that's probably what they should do.

But all that cash would fall on the heads of coaches. We would be here though. David Redpath, we wouldn't be here in this position with an IL is a big deal if the NCAA and the people who run it and I'm not even talking about Mark Emmert. At this point I'm talking about the University presence presidents if they had recognized that the deal that has been struck with players for the last 60 years hasn't changed in spite of the fact that the money has gone way through the roof. If they had been more proactive about were not here today where we are now. I agree and and again I think I'm what you note for the past 60 years. It had been sold as enterprise that was predicated on the athletes allegedly being amateurs and not getting paid. Other than an educational climate scholarship and that's what the appeal was my think. Certainly last year showed that that's not the case. We don't care if the athletes are getting paid are getting are getting an IL money maybe a few people might care.

But I think the high perspective do not and are still watching and I often think of people you care what you watched when this was going on, but it was just under the table and you knew that was going on. Why is that okay is supposed to aboveboard payments to the athletes whether through an IL's work or even direct pay and and most don't have a good answer for me.

But I agree with you Adam that yell things up all night guard Mike Ceausescu the other day to say something like you know the system doesn't work anymore. I'm not so sure it ever work but he's right, it doesn't work anymore and why don't we get involved because at the end of the day.

I always say this, we're going to watch NC State, North Carolina, Duke basketball play football. Whatever, no matter what no matter what the athletes are making $10 million a year were going to watch and so why not just evolve with the times and accept the fact that college athletics in America were the only country that does this is major-league as a major league sports property and you can even go down to the Division III works not really, you know college athletics as we like to believe the mythological construct right to accept college athletics what it is not what we hope it should be capital financial advisory group. We are talking retirement coach simple. When we start tax planning and retirement should start as soon as possible because there's one thing that taxes are not going away and so the game here is we know the rules what people want to ignore the rules or act like they don't offer me with them but virus those rules and so we get retirement. The region start taking some money out of your accounts so the secret here is to put a force field around as much as possible. By strategically moving some Romani to Roth IRA were some of the other vehicles that are taxed like a special life insurance policies can borrow against your money there and never have to pay tax on you wanted to build up inside your Space up there a lot of strategies here. The one strategy that does not work is ignoring the mature and not ignored the next 10 people will do for you your very own tax and retirement plan help you minimize taxation with retirement 800-661-7383. All you got is call or you can text Adam to 21000 for coach Pete the road were not that far removed from former Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney threatening to go back to Division III. If college athletes started getting paid. I think we've survived so far. College athletes in the name, image and likeness world do we need personally I don't believe we do. I don't believe we need any guardrails either, even though it is, it does appear messy at times.

Today, do we need federal legislation on an IL might that say no, but I do think there is a place for some federal regulation college athletics at beyond limiting what the players can earn what why the NCAA people a lot of people out there using a lot of conference commissioners Jim Phillips and others why they are for national standards. They want to limit the earning power of the college athlete.

When I think actually you should be capping expenses. I will also require some congressional intervention. He do not need to be paying off its coordinators to $3 million year. We do not need to be building. What were building in college athletics. That's where the money is being wasted. Let's make sure the money gets in the hands of the people who really do deserve it and that's the athletes up there. I think Adam there's a place for some potential federal regulation but honestly with regards to you to an IL. Right now, but I don't think federal regulation is going to do anything in the sense that you could say the horses out of the barn, so to speak of these inducements and collectives and lots of other things you got a hodgepodge of state laws. What needs to happen now.

Adam to actually when I say regulate this. This is not to regulate it so that players can earn what they want to earn and all those other things the best way to regulate this now is not federal legislation. In my view and I doubt that that would happen to be right. What's going on is going on exactly. I do think I do think it's there something discuss the level in the great group. We have called for a presidential commission much like the amateur sports a 70 to look at college athletics from top to bottom, but right now at this point people want regulation should say if you want to use the term guardrails you have to sit down and negotiate directly with the athletes as a nonemployee union that is the only way Adam right now and give you some examples. So if we wanted to say that you know the athletes agree that there cannot be any an IL inducements as part of recruiting and a part of that negotiation in the agreement that that's a much better way to regulate it than what were doing now. Not that that wouldn't be things going on. Or, safer, and something we really don't want AA college athletes to make money being on and only expands pornography. Now get a college student to make money doing that and I'm not judging, but we wanted to regulate that were not going to be able to tell college athletes what they can or can't do. Because the college students are not employees and that's the best way right now. Adam, I like to me it's a no-brainer. It is time for the NCAA and accomplices to sit down with the athletes correctly and negotiate with them at the table that this will let you go and I appreciate your time. There are probably college students on only fans. Right now they're just probably not athletes.

You had mentioned something about capping like assistant coaches salaries. I wonder if all of this and you also mentioned law locker rooms in Oregon and there's there's opulence all over college sports.

In fact, most high level college football programs have better locker rooms than NFL teams. Almost all of the top college programs have better looking locker rooms than NFL teams. How much of this stems from the fact that the athletic departments essentially have to show something close to a zero balance. Why not just Taksim want to just make in for-profit enterprises and tax them exactly that something that you know I I've said for years that only college that programs at least at the Division I level should be checked should not get the 80% deduction.

That's why there's so willing to donate so much money to departments because it's considered an educational donation and for me, for me at my I'm a proponent of you deal with the right place and you picture the athletes first when people complain that there's not enough money or gonna drop women sports and all these other things understand that spending on football, men's basketball since 1991 that was about the continental monthly started to be enforced even noted on the books for 20 years, spending on those two sports is increased to 500% make choices bad choices that's what's hurting male nonrevenue male sports that's asserting female sports camps like this would actually help college athletic departments need federal law, and honestly should be adding teams instead of dropping kids we should be adding teams because that helps the bottom line of enrollment and other things at institutions want we do things backwards.

But that's because we want to put everything in the football, men's basketball and I think those days are numbered pass I please see your time sooner. Good luck to you blue jackets in the off-season and then next year we gotta get you here for a blue jackets hurricanes game and then maybe you and I can sit next to each other and against each other well. I would love that. I tell you I still think you guys have the best team there. The best coach. I'm surprised that you're not in it right now. I thought the couple is going to be raised by the east.

No matter what ship I got it met the Atlantic are scary.

It'll be an interesting Stanley Cup finals. Whoever gets no question. I don't know Colorado's goaltending is good enough but the avalanche as a team in front of their goaltender. They are frightening and they are fast. It is the allowable. It's almost like you don't need a gold great have that right. It is possible if I thank you very much for your time Sir will talk soon Adam, thank you, but you got a David Redpath Dr. David Redpath if you will, at DR Redpath on Twitter really good follow. If you are interested in the relationship between college sports and how it treats its athletes really good follow for the June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 with the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Carolina listen. We had to pull up put this out about one 11 o'clock 1130 probably and here are your four options and writings are always I accepted Aaron Donald contract minicamps is a contract there, but that's why we we would be talking about Aaron Donald I have thoughts on that air Donald minicamps Dino Samuel says go to participate minicamps for San Francisco so that means to me anyway that he is planning on signing a contract because otherwise why go you you giving away your leverage if you go Panthers cheerleader. This is the last place back to that in the second and is not just Panthers cheerleader there's more to that story will explain NHL playoffs still in the running and baseball:: North Carolina or New York. One is college one is pro right now that is the leader in the clubhouse if you will. So you still have time to vote and will also take phone calls 919-860-5326 coming up at the top of the hour. Whatever it is you want us to get to. We can do that then. Right now, back to the Panthers cheerleader story's out now on the front page of ESPN.com Carolina Panthers have a transgender cheerleader.

By all accounts Justine Lindsay is the first trans-woman to be an NFL cheerleader.

I guess it's possible that we have had one without knowing I don't mean I am. I don't know okay but by all accounts this is the first of her kind in the NFL. Here's what's interesting to me about this. Lindsay made the top cats in March.

She didn't just appointed to the squad yesterday. She made the top cats in March. There is, she tweeted about it. There was a news item in the lurch.

She made it public that so is it possible that this wasn't that big a deal.

In my don't even understand it's a big deal.

I think it deserves, it deserves attention it deserves to be talked about. I only found out about this. I kid you not. Yesterday I made evening. I only found out about it when a listener brought it to my attention on Twitter like have you heard about this. This is appalling. This person expressed outrage that a trans woman was going to be a cheerleader for an NFL team for the life of me I can't figure out why it matters for the life of me I cannot figure out why and NFL cheerleader who was transgender, why it matters. At best, NFL cheerleaders or dancers at best and worst. There simply a waiver of pom-poms NFL cheerleaders don't do anything they stand there. They look good.

They line the field there good for ghetto TV cutaways. They will occasionally make appearances on behalf of their teams. Their representatives in the public, sometimes they do calendars during which the owners take them looking to you commandos. This is not a competitive situation okay NFL cheerleading is not a competitive situation likely a Thomas she's the trans woman who was a swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania who won the NCAA title in the 500 m freestyle and in this case. While I have no problem at all with her participation in the sport competing with women. I do understand why some push back against it is a competitive situation. I have no problem with it but I understand the position of the people who do that makes more sense to me that having a problem with somebody waving a pom-pom lapse to be happens to be transgender. I don't understand the issue cheerleaders are supposed to be women well Justine Lindsay is a woman. What's the point in their middle cheerleaders out there to. I don't want to generalize this and so on because I want to cheapen the issue but are you threatened is something inside of you threatened by a trans woman cheerleader of an NFL team or are you the person who goes into the club thinking that she's really into you when we know she's not this to me is 100% about insecurity hundred percent about insecurity shouts to Justine Lindsay.

Have a great year. This is the atom gold shell June 19, 2006, but it all started May 6, 1997 the announcement that the Hartford Whalers were coming to North Carolina transition of heartbreak. Figuring it out on the fly became 25th anniversary of the move presented by the Carolina listen
