Financial capital financial.com. This is the gold shell Chris Singleton, former bigwig or ESPN baseball analyst three times an author and his latest comes out tomorrow and it comes unaccompanied, not tomorrow, the 17th on the anniversary of the day that I did not realize that your mother was one of the victims of the CME church in Charleston, South Carolina, and I appreciate your time and I wonder why I want to talk about this because what happened over the last couple weeks. I actually had an impact in baseball with the raise and the Yankees are both devoting their social media during a game against each other to only tweeting out about guns and how it impacts our lives before we get to everything else about the book. I'm just curious how that impacted you when you saw those two teams do that. I feel huge people using their platform is rather the regular Southerners affected a lot of people. Rogers thing that happened to them personally, but you know around the country in the world manage sets always.

I was impressed. Whatever your baseball around the world how the world plays the game comes out June 17.

What's the thrust behind this and know we know what what can you tell us about your first.

This that I would have another job but there's yours to Chris Singleton, America played minor league ball and I apologize I'm just realizing that right now it's okay because I think it's an issue that we need to talk about my fault the words but but David Ross is well. Why bring that up to you. Actually endorse my book as well as Carol Reynolds, but this is basically celebrating diversity in the sport right so we got players from Dominican Republic I was leaving the states. Canada, Japan, like all over the world in sports always brings us closer together so that was the reason behind it and the mission for me is always about unity after lost my mom Singleton is with us here baseball around the world. We learn from baseball like I'm just and I've watched the let's just say the Dominican World Series of the Caribbean World Series. I know during the pandemic. We are first foray back in the sports was Korean baseball. What do we learn from baseball around the world. It might impact baseball the United States. While figure will give you a different appreciation for I know for me. You know what that's our play professionally in learning about the guys that were playing in Venezuela at 678 years old and how much they love the sport obligated appreciation for and also I think it will deftly do that you learn about baseball in Puerto Rico.

You learn about different players that you may or may not have ever heard about before I will come with different types of foods people are reading, you know, so it this only everything that worked on teaching in his book that I'm excited about hopefully bring people closer together with Chris Singleton, author of baseball around the world how the world plays the game comes out in about what eight days from right now if if we incorporated more of the fun. And I know we were getting pushback on some of that. We even saw that between Josh Donaldson into Manderson and that's a deeper issue than just about fun because Anderson when he referred to himself as Jackie Robinson. It was really talking about being a trendsetter for putting the fun back in the game. Look how much of an impact would that have on the sport if we just loosened up some of the old school thinking yeah think what will first. You know that I think you know relationships will always supersede like the things you say or don't say so.

We got relationship with the body. You can joke around like I don't know they had a relationship work so I can't really speak to that but I do think what we have to bring the fun back again. We've been talking about it for the last. I want to say five years really heavy because we see sports like basketball. Everybody loves football, but baseball is something that is America's past, and you know we celebrate that so another try shortly game a little bit.

People are pimp and homerun the big strikeout people are getting excited. So no, I think the service that we need to see in our game to keep pushing for. I agree I'm very pro backflip. It was cool to see in the in the KB you know the backflip is is it's an art form Outlook I'm I'm I'm I've always been a fan of it. I think that stuff we celebrate every other sport we we spike a football after scoring a touchdown. Why is it why is it not okay to essentially spike a bat after hitting a home run means you gotta be the biggest thrill that you and I know the first time I had a ball over fence in a competitive baseball game, the adrenaline rush is something like this is nothing like I have ever felt.

How we get more diversity back in the game and by that I really mean about American diversity because African-American participation in the game, certainly at the pro level is way off yeah great you know what the really good thing is that over the last two or three years but amount of first rounders in high draft pick. That are black directly to gone up tremendously. So I think the tables are turning because we're finally talking about the problem you know is not in the 80s were you see showing different like players are. Even with me. You know I love Angela McCutcheon. He was like my guy guy coming out so radically start to see that will people like hunter green like you mentioned earlier to attend Manderson so if we market those godlike like we should, instead of me saying Hamlet. Your cells are Chicago and in August I love you Rosa love Zach Levine now love to Manderson.

He even poses everywhere you can only you got swag just like to give me a flyer. I think I think we needed shaping that and keep pushing it because that's how we get people in the game when they have their own brand, just like basketball players are doing it when the shield shown people the lifestyle like I know it's weird and is not traditionally done in baseball but that is what will sell. I think it more. The urban communities. Interesting. I grew up in a time where the game really maybe all games were similar but I grew up watching baseball in the 70s and the 80s and the game just had more style back then it's it's weird getting back to that with some players, but you know like a UL Washington.

None of you remember him who played shortstop for the Royals with a toothpick in his mouth the entire time. Order immediate series he'd seen on YouTube or the Joe Morgan's who had do you know the. The interesting immuno batting stance with that with the flapping elbow. We just had more style in the game for kids to imitate, like now, there's not a lot everybody just adjusted batting gloves and steps out and takes too long. I think when you say when you share that I automatically think about Gary Sheffield. Everybody try to copy you know it is batting stance so my deftly think we we need to champing that for sure, but also the player that are doing players that are having the swag left is make sure we put them on a billboard and in the commercials because that little deftly so there is no questions baseball around the world how the world plays the game comes out eight days from now.

Chris Singleton this Chris Singleton.

Not that Chris Singleton accept my apology sir. I hope the book does really really well. Thank you very much for your time.

My pleasure man.

Thank you.

You talk to Chris Singleton well, there are plenty of Chris Singleton's I'm sure all right when week when we come back the time Montgomery is a professional lacrosse player we should call them the crossers. Anyway, he went to Duke. He's from Dallas. He flatters laxatives.

He's part of the premier lacrosse league of good be in Charlotte. It is a very cool concept. Essentially it's barnstorming with one of the most fun styles of the game that you're ever going to see will talk to him next time. Montgomery is a recent third round pick of the redwoods in the premier lacrosse league and there in Charlotte this week. The barnstorming tour week two Albany last week Charlotte this week. Pretty soon you get a chance to go home to Dallas Texas.

I don't know him well well well are they treating you well in the premier lacrosse like yeah great example we do dog. I'm curious about this and that is a lot of I have a lot of questions as somebody who has loved the sport of lacrosse and on the Maryland grad and I graduate a long time ago. I'd I do not claim the national championship. Once they left the ACC for the Big Ten.

I stopping attention, but I graduated in 1988 went a lot more lacrosse games and with football games at the University.

I've always wondered why it hasn't been a bigger Pro sport because to watch it in college was absolutely amazing I'm I'm just curious. This format when you are essentially a traveling circus. I'm not trying to compare to a circus, but you're basically it's a circus you traveling from city to city. Do you like this aspect of it yet. Well this week, but I you cool things. I'm excited.

I got done and I'm excited. I appreciate the fact that you actually consider the question just a knee-jerk reaction would be. Hey man, it's great we get a chance to play pro lacrosse when you're a kid growing up in your playing. Whether it's you know before highschooler in high school did you aspire to be a pro or is this something you just sort of kind of fell into as you got through Duke and Ewert All-American for three years. So just curious that you know is this what you wanted to do always.

I bet that whatever whatever what always be a kind of just be a pro family, I was always better, whether in school or lacrosse or football or other sports are just showing up the house and I guess the question yeah I just definitely want to grow you mentioned. Whatever. What you mentioned football you you play a little bit for the final year of David talk with. How is that which is tougher of our member got no big guys big song about a remedy you to go forward or backward so but both are notebook of their own will be hard but garbled. Really fun. Obviously I love about you.

Where less equipment. Although I've I've often said this in Dennis's lacrosse coach, the producer of this epic.

I've always wondered why did they allow guys to whack each other with sticks like phrenology seems like for no reason when I can just hit my stick. I've never understood that.

That doesn't seem fair.

Yeah that is, it is all about. It is all about being thought this might seek to Texas. What made you decide on Duke and that all will ask you about a current teammate and another do grant, yeah I decided I'm good".

Back dating back when the recruiting was earlier writer, coming out of coming out of the eighth grade was like a lot of schools, but of the recruiting classes and so after my freshman year, Duke reached out and one medicament so I can do that would like to note that the pressure near and then kind of I was. I was always that that on Duke and I spoke to you why I just knew I wanted to go there for some reason the family or anything. I went there were or really anyone that I knew and the only the only thing that would've probably go change that was applicable somewhere else. I was watching something else over the weekend and they mentioned the legendary John Janowski who was that they were referring to. I guess the lightning game as well. We talking about.

John is actually a fire off a textile but I got distracted. I must have ADD or something and I so so I never did reach out to them, but it's very cool to hear that during AI during a hockey game time is joining us. All right, so when you go to places like Charlotte, as opposed to Long Island which will be next week or than Baltimore the following week when you go to places that where lacrosse hasn't doesn't have real deep roots. I grew up in the New York area so I know about it in on Long Island. I'm I lived in Baltimore for several years. I know about it in the Washington DC Baltimore area. I know I know where the lacrosse hotbeds are is it different when you're playing in front of places that lacrosse hasn't been doesn't have deep roots I got I got a wait and see we have some really good family friends now shut up Miss Ginger and the boss will come looking to go to prepare licking every game. Of course my mom being socialite. She is got to got got to know the farm know these are seven people you know probably more will use you in Texas but I think their church is crossing to himself the plan by to two quick things about the game you scored a two pointer does college need a two pointer yeah it was not like it spun like on a go back and watch. I like to Michael Jordan when you empty and there was a three point line you only one not on the vulnerable one.

Not everything going up to get rid of the adult mouse what what what would that do Jessica we're going to take out subjectivity picked up. You know Rex okay. I'm interested to know does make a more direct the Duchess were clear rules and their goals get scored from what is it outside 15 yards only goes really get scored from out there man. There were two in our daily that was almost like last week for games. There was about eight or nine okay is do people typically shoot from their college game yet. Okay, we should up to, but we should have to put in the college game more scoring people would like it. And maybe Cornell would've come all the way back to beat Maryland in the international to iterative game is still yeah you still have a fighting chance at school like in practice. Okay were down one what we can write about because of the protocol.

There to go down to those scenarios working on those blazing stuff like that element of the game coach cool thing until your team is on the losing end of that. But then again, don't.

Don't give up at two pointer and final thing. What is your interest in indoor lacrosse movie at outdoor.

The game looks a lot like what it what I see in college indoors looks. I just I goofy I mean it's crazy it's so fast. What is your sort like the difference in indoor soccer and outdoor soccer to me. What's it. What is your interest in the Internet and LL I so cool. Maybe you guys know what you get out, shut off the transition I got. Maybe do that. The combination of football, hockey and lacrosse but will love what you McKay Montgomery bottling.

I wanted you where 15 when he went to visit Miles don't work work work right. Miles Jones Ward because Vince Carter. That's the I can't believe that he went to school that something you can bring up to a formative teammate accident never played together right you he was gone but now got there yet. McKay Montgomery do grad. Now with the redwoods in the premier lacrosse league will be in Charlotte this weekend. I appreciate your time. A friend. Good luck scored another two pointer and hopefully we can check-in down the road. Yeah hopefully open much better.

I will good luck with that.

I hope he was not offended that I didn't know that they did not win last week.

Did you did you wager on the redwoods last week. I actually did have them losing how you did picked against the can't believe that is hatless yeah while they're stacked the tractor today is hatless is strong incident really are and you go man that the jokes write themselves. I went before we get to the rewind. I went to went through a little bit about Twitter not.

It certainly wasn't a grant. There were a lot of clips from the press conference yesterday and the day before over in England where the live international series is being played.

I can't find I can't find a good leaderboard for live oh how unfortunate like I'm curious who's who I know DJ finished one underpar is not in the lead. I don't recognize anybody who's in the lead. I don't do seem to think you know Shasha Schwartz was five underpar five.

It was fun anyway so it's I watched a little bit of it today and it looks like golf magic that it just looks like golf on TV which is if you like golf on TV.

I do, then it looks the same. If you think it's better I really I would love to know why you would think it's better other than there are no commercials because there are no sponsors at this point needs matter what the streaming numbers going to be unimagined is a fair amount of people streaming it because it's something it's first first event like we'll see what happens with the next event which is at the end of this month which is in Portland, Oregon but the rain it looked like golf on TV. It does have a little bit of a Formula One look in terms of how it's presented so and the Saudis are very involved in Formula One.

I would imagine there's some crossover in the production but it does look like golf to me on on my laptop actually was on my phone.

Initially, before we get to to the rewind. Here's a couple of things that were said over there and I want to go back to this will get us into something that Mark razzle said a couple times and I didn't want to explore it. During the conversation with him but here's Graham McDowell on not being what everybody wants him to be. I love using the game of golf is as you know, something to kind of help grow around the world is pretty much with them +20 years be role models. The kids try and use this game like say is is a force of good really so were not politicians, I know you got sick of expression, but really not unfortunately endow your professional golfer's Saudi Arabia want to use the game of golf is as a is a way for them to get to where they want to be on.

They have the resources to accelerate that experience. You think were probably to help them on that journey.

Oh, hello, hello man who's this nothing good about that. Just nothing at all positive about that you're not being a role model you're not being a force of good they're not interested in accelerating the process towards not being a human rights defender. They're not. They are who they are much, nobody should be trying to change a bag.

I guess people are charged with trying to change the but nobody's going to make them change. But what Graham said at the end we are proud to help them like a man.

You're not helping them do anything other than make people think that they changed because you're not doing they're not doing anything at all you're doing is allowing yourself to be used now you are getting paid handsomely to do it yet and I do you make that choice and what I'm I did. I jumped in a mocking to pretend like if the Saudis were really into sports radio and they offered me an insane amount of money to do a sports radio show for them. I can't tell you that I wouldn't do it ought me not being as honest as possible.

I'm not trying to stand on a morality pedestal here. Everybody's got a price but I will say this, if I were in the grip McDowell tax bracket.

I'm pretty sure I would have strong, stronger views, yeah on that subject right but for those bit like the only player I have heard on the tour who has said hey man, it's about cash Richard Bland plays primarily on the European tour. One is first event in like 700 500 starts last year just to qualify for the U.S. Open guide qualified based on it. What is first event ever laughter like age 48. While so is like a mean this is my one chance to make all boatload of money. He's been upfront about everybody else line just like grandma delegated to make money right. This will leave it at that will leave it at this this is Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood two Ryder Cup stalwarts who are asked a series of questions by the British press.

I'm telling you this is why it's good that the first event was in England because their press gives no bleeps lenient on the wealthy wouldn't like you speculation, knowing that a comment on speculation in the generality is anyway you wouldn't plan a moral basis.

The money was right as anybody would like to question question you played, you just asking us to answer hypothetical question that which answer question Trent from the independent. I don't blame whoever possesses questions just came hard. I mean, I know that it might feel inappropriate.

Those were not inappropriate questions and they are not hypothetical questions.

Either they are as the reporter responded their moral questions now again it's hard for me to say that I wouldn't do it because money and some of us need money.

I'm in no position to retire not known at all me. I might have to. I'm not arguing what you don't want whatever you need to do, but the plot not all the players. Ian Poulter's of the world with multiple Ferraris and homes in like five different places in Graham McDowell and Dustin Johnson was made over $200 million in his PGA Tour career more than 100 million of it on the course and over 100 million off the course mean now were just talking about.

I mean how big can the pile of money, get which again doesn't mean that you don't do it right. I'm just thinking that at that point. At some point you either don't care which may be none of these guys do it. It maybe doesn't bother them real quick because I keep getting this what we would the MBA Lebron James are in bed with China.

The NBA does have many major business interests in China, as does Lebron James on there plenty of players who wear shoes made by Chinese company.

The PGA Tour is involved in China. The there are roughly 350 American corporations that have major business interest in China not making this up. He looked, looking up at the numbers, like 339 right the, the daughter of the last president of our control. Just Chinese trademarks or trademarks that she uses to sell product in China try to get a 1.4 billion people is a major marketplace for companies not just in the United States all around the globe. If you're going to one about this by saying well what about the NBA in China. First of all, I think you're telling on yourself, but really a marketplace that size is interesting to every major corporation on the planet. Coca-Cola and McDonald's and everybody else is interesting interested in tapping into that gigantic market selling to what whatever your product is set offering your services for a fee to a large group of people is very different from allowing yourself to be used for price not selling anything, you are allowing this government to use you so I am not trying to make this a milk by a morality play. I am simply trying to explain the difference between the association with China and the association with the Saudi Arabians. That's all that's all again. I think I've been upfront. I said right out right out of the gate. If they were really in sports radio. I'm sure I'm not doing a show about live golf today. We sorted it anyway. But I'm not sure about talking about it differently. I'm not trying to try to front about anything here. The amount of money is staggering.

Dustin Johnson doubled his career earnings or he didn't quite he could double his career earnings by what he does in the eight events this year mean the number is probably closer to 150 that he got guaranteed and the amount of money they are playing for $4 million to the winner this week. There are team's team bonuses.

There is end of year bonuses.

Dustin could end up doubling he made. He has made $74 million just in tournament winnings on the PGA Tour. He's exceeded that by hundred and 50% based on the last couple of days to make again I'm not trying to make it a morality play. I just wanted to explain the difference. So for those of you who want to say what about China to what about China. What about China. That's the difference that's at least the way I see it, you may see it differently and that's fair. This is the atom gold shall
