Oh yes ONNNI know you probably can ask this, but I'm in a jump the gun, to say what's your favorite food for Super Bowl gathering. We spent some something about this, you and me. The kids really pumped about the Super Bowl and did you go deep dish.

Is that what you did know I wanted to go deep this because I figured that would be the thing that heats up the bass that kind taste like. But now I got all loaded and so we did Philly cheese steak current filling. So we got some cheesesteaks, nice some pretty excited about that. But I but you have what you guys. Josh, for I'm jumping to comment on gold belly first and foremost, I feel bad because I've been on the gold belly train further and hope for a while now and I had heard you talk about adding it. Well it's it was my secret and I do not share it with you as you mess up the turnaround time on the food, I was ordered know we have done it.

I think I saw like of someone I know on Facebook had a word some stuff from somewhere, is like several months ago and I was doing this this dumb diet where that don't like. I eat very well and you have like one sheet mill a week got shaken at one sheet mill on order something just completely ignorant from gold belly so I had ordered like 30 cinnamon rolls from someplace they're supposed to be the best in America and is legit man.

You know they send it to you.

I guess it's it depends on where you order from they do send it to you would like instructions on exactly how to reheat and prepare and it seems legit and that you know it.

The service was great. We got it on time. It was quick. The cinnamon rolls were delicious but to answer your Super Bowl related question I goes straight up simple missing wings any kind of wings I feel like wings in the Super Bowl go together very well. Get ready for today's show I was reading and I read a headline in a little wet out what it was all set a record 31.5 million Americans have placed some sort of bet on the Super Bowl as he Super Bowl Sunday were recording on Wednesdays. I read this Tuesday I was.

I'm sure before you to the Super Bowl at numbers going to be what twice that.

So I gauge is showing we ought we all were all out there betting on sports break in the law and that doesn't include year. The friend that you does her best to just monitoring anything about all that we have with our friends on any particular game, especially the Super Bowl look Josh that everyone's breaking the law. I wonder if that 31.5 million is a calculation of the legal bets only and how many bets there would be if you could tally up like the offshore books in the. It probably would be infinite degree higher factor than 31.5 million at say is somebody you know betting aside is somebody he was raised in the in the early to mid 90s I came here last time I been this pumped about 1/2 time show is half time show is going to be awesome for the old people like me, you can bet on the halftime show and there is that that I have seen this a prop bit, and it's a bit whether or not Snoop Dogg smokes marijuana during the halftime show think the odds are like, +200 that he doesn't. That's a decent bet and again, guys.

I think it'll be a good man. I think the game I'm pretty intrigued about the game. Cincinnati and the Rams are sports credibility just went in the toilet so it's it's it's Cincinnati and the Rams is obviously writing asking Joe go ahead and break down force because John prediction for the game. My prediction is LA Rams defensive line against Cincinnati's offense of line and a lot of people talked about it. Cincinnati has some issues there. The LA Rams man. It is just like a Pro bowl defensive line fantastic, but there's a lot of pressure on the home team and Cincinnati has won three road games so IIII think Cincinnati not Karen, and I I don't know why I think it could go Cincinnati's way, but no pay on paper grants yeah I this is my prediction and is very similar to what you're thinking too. So I think the Rams are better as a team, top to bottom.

If you look at each unit offense, defense lines, is a big probably offense line of the Bengals versus the defensive line of the Rams.

All that is true on paper. Like you said Rams they got that their at home under this pressure there, but I think that's also a big benefit to them.

So all of that in the Rams favor, but I just had this feeling that Joe Burroughs just like blessed by God and and there's some kind of magic about him and he's you find some way to win the game. That's kind of where I'm leaning right now but it's tough man I don't know how much more I have not decided my theoretical bet that I will place on this game as of yet, double down cheeks when his bowl cancellation for the Bengals and they just call the chief sin is the last play. What a score that would be.

I am in my defense, like once my teams are out like that. I'm saying things like the NCAA tournament. Once once my teams are out.

I don't know of anybody else who is joined MAS at their opening it up to potential additional plaintiffs, but it basically is the NFL name a couple of teams that he has experience with and then named potential defendants, potentially all the teams are involved but basically just attacked the NFL's hiring practices as it as it relates to racial discrimination and and and things they've got going on, but this was just, I mean this is a bombshell. This is not good news if you're a big NFL fan well and and I'll just throw this into mean timing is everything and you got all eyes on the NFL Super Bowl coming up the playoffs. Obviously, when this this bomb went off, but I totally agree with you this. This is something that's been in the works.

The part of the story is is coach Laura's is alleging that the Dolphins wanted him back in 2019 to tank so they would have a better position in the draft so they could build on that franchise and Laura's has said publicly that he was offered hundred thousand dollars per loss in bonuses back in 2019 and he refused to do it and that's his side of the story. The Dolphins are saying that did not happen. Obviously there denying it, but here Jackson former Cleveland Browns head coach said he was basically offered a similar deal when he was in Cleveland so this this is not going away and this is about integrity and the NFL is taking it very seriously because we in a week. We joke about prop bets and we talk about all these different things in the Super Bowl, but it's a big deal and if you got ownership that's trying to influence the outcome of games with bonuses to their own employees that mean you are talking about the integrity of your league. And so the NFL's can take it very very seriously and and there's a distinction there more because it makes sense to us to incentivize a coach with with monetary bonuses to winch obviously you know that that no one can look at them. That's the purpose of the sport but it's looked upon with great disfavor in it and it makes you feel strange when it's one of the alternative.

Anytime you talk about a team taking a dive. It is going to give you pause, not only as as a fan, but then as like you said we got this growing industry of sports betting multibillion-dollar industry and that really affects that and in its can really affect the a lot of that. So yeah give you Paul's and but at the same time it you understand everybody if you're a sports fan, especially if you are mean, really, any sport in your MBA NFL you understand the concept of tanking in those sports and its it's difficult because these are seasons are in a each individual seasons, looked at in a vacuum, but these organizations they're looking long-term and they are looking at things from the perspective of how how can we build to the future as well. So if you've got a team that you know they know they're not can win a ton again this year.

They know that I could be in contention and they can improve their ability to draft better players in the future. It's almost like a natural inclination in its almost an intelligent strategy. It's hard to say that it's almost an intelligent strategy that you would want to win you want to increase the likelihood that you can bring in some game changer type of players so it's it's in really strange balance. There is always thing about this thing about things practically you know there's the there's the note due. These are billionaire owners, righties owners are millionaires there. There millionaires and these are like there side hustles right here we thing about it and NFL franchises.

You know this super valuable commodity, and you know and it is with the people that have enough money to own and NFL franchise are rich beyond what we can even get contemplate.

I think most normal people, including myself as normal people and I like what I do and this is their I think about it like this is just their plaything right you know they have to obey laws and stop but I don't know that you know what Brian Brian florist to me and I noticed that this year you nonmarried into the bills since I watched the bills play Miami twice thing a Salt Lake Jacksonville. I saw Miami play like for five games this year and nothing played good yet. I don't know much about a minute a bit. Had a rough couple years but I think Brian Florez is probably by all accounts a good coach and send NS not answer right. That's that unity say they had a rough couple years and I mean again, you don't hold this against you don't even know he's playing in the Super Bowl say Josh, but they Florez actually posted the first back-to-back winning seasons in the last couple years at the Dolphins. It had since 2003. So they've actually had arguably there two best seasons in what that's close to 20 years now under under his tenure so shocking to say the least that he would be terminated when he's per unit produced results of that nature, but man, all I can tell you is on 1998 NFL quarterback club. Jackson is is as jumped in about tanking games being asked to do it when he was with Cleveland and so now it's just this big swirl, but the NFL's got an issue who in and they are very good about being Teflon things don't stick to the league and C&S I saw Borman Lewis came out to Ettinger's arenas yesterday and I was like Marvin Lewis.

He interviewed with the Panthers and I really want him to be the Panthers coaches back and we had a lot of good defensive players and so he came out he was starting to say oh yeah this is been my experience I think he was more commentating on the rule working a higher coach, you have to hire NFL's got this rule yet interview at least one my minority candidate as part of Brian for zoning is the meat of his lawsuit is that this is just a scam.

The interviews he went on work very serious and and a lot of them. He could tell that he was being interviewed.

To satisfy this.

This rules is racial discrimination. I think this is the bulk of Mr. floors his claim and then coming on paper, the claim looks just from what you see in the media yet NFL can't really hide much you know it's popular.

The media follows it like yet it to me you didn't like good you know racial discrimination in hiring practices is to me. In my opinion is just a tough thing to prove, but it seems like a lot of the facts they need to prove this or just out there and then if the Marvin Lewis is in the queue Jacksons of the world get in this with Brian you know there's going to be there, just a lot there that doesn't look good when you put it all together.

I don't and I don't know Brian Florez doesn't seem like usually out for money on this one. This really seems like he intends for this to be a game changer he wants.

He wants to make change. I was reading some of his quotes and you know he saved his money and and this is it. This is an about money.

This is about change in things, and he said it, you know, I think that's the best big piece that's rousing to get to is the fact that it's not like he's like he said is not really sue into the take to recover monetary damages and to take to get himself rich in the situation and in that's my prediction for what what comes from this because like you said it doesn't look great. I think we can agree it doesn't look fantastic and I think what's can end up coming from. This is going to be some form of no sweeping change in that's what's actually been proposed.

This point is to to basically kind of they want to shine a light on the racial injustice as they see it inside the NFL and so they've actually presented in the lawsuit either. Several bullet points of what they want to see addressed and I and I agree with you I think that's what it's going to be. It's good to be a vehicle to further implement this change and and take care some of these things that have really been taught mean if you followed any of it at the NFL.

These are things that have been talked about for you know as long as you can remember it you know it's it's been discussed that there is an issue with racial diversity, especially at that higher level you at the at the, the player level you know you see it league this does the majority of players in the league.

Of course, minority players and but then at that the higher level. You don't see that same level representation and so it's been something that's been discussed for a long time. I think this lawsuit is going to be again that vehicle to really push for some some sweeping change.

Yeah, I think if the law firm of Whitaker name are represented NFL. I think we have in our conversation a benefit on not getting a Roger mistake this is a good thing it's not and you're talking about.

We live in a different time. We talked about it all the time we live in a different time than we we have before where the people in general have so much more of a voice, and that being just the general public and in issues like these are the exact issues that really fire people up and and get get folks, you know, out there, behind their keyboards really mounting up, so to speak it and going to to bat for causes and this is the type of thing that does that and it's not something that you can be able to quietly make no go away yet. It's good to be a problem. This can be something there and have to deal with and it is not going away man and less there is some concrete addressing of this these issues. I want to I know are coming up against the break and I want to backtrack a little bit G Jody had a Nintendo 64 in yet a Nintendo 64. Josh, I did have a Nintendo 64 was Madden on the Nintendo 64 is I don't like I had man I thought only had this NFL quarterback club game evidencing B more than one NFL game on on the Nintendo 6040 know you will top your head. The next thing is Santana Randy Moss yes one ambassador to. That's when the at the NFL 2K series game is honestly a superior football series.

While it while it lasted and it is back to kinda Madden has the monopoly on it and I don't how we on this topic to get you there was Madden game for first the 64.we you know, this idea has nothing to do over talking about but what man I do like economic study on why the Sega Dreamcast didn't become the most dominant. We should be playing Dreamcast right now instead of play stations and and whatever the Xbox should be all Dreamcast yet here nor there. Yeah and and and just again this is neither here nor there.

We could probably talk about this a long time because I've actually done some research into that very question and it's funny you mentioned one of the main reasons why is the fact that the Dreamcast didn't have access to those EA sports titles, which is where were, of course, Madden came from and so that even though I think the 2K series was a superior series. They didn't get any of those EA games and I was a big, big piece of the puzzle their children. Clayton, Goldsboro, Fuquay Green and Gastonia easy for me to say I Morgan Patrick consumer advocate. Guys got a lot to get to is a lot of fun having a conversation about the NFL.

We didn't really get to the really rule something will probably have time to get to and in later episodes, but folks, Palin versus the New York Times side. I forgot about this one for a while, you know, one of the reasons we we mean just are doing the show. There's a couple reasons one the reasons we started doing it is because I came up as a journalism major in undergrad or an and works you know and small-town newspapers for a while before I went to law school, but but I've always been interested in how stories are reported on how they're presented, you know, just cannot bias even before we got to Fox News and CNN and MSN like just just bias in journalism is always been interesting to me is against the law.

It's been interesting to see how you legal things are reported on what's left out. You know what, how they're presented and so anyway Sarah Palin needle have to be a fan of Sarah Palin to appreciate what's going on here, but Sarah Palin obviously is out as a public figure was a VP candidate and is stayed, in reality TV on that CD level celebrity and we will go into it too much that I want to bore listeners, but basically the New York Times had an editorial that ran like things, 2017, 2016. Anyway, a few years back and the whole deal is this editorial, insinuated that some gun violence and some deaths were may be on Sarah Palin's hands because her the way she supported gun rights and we will go into it with his editorials produced, edited and printed by New York Times account.

Blame Sarah Palin. I think for can't remove the name of the was at the center house member that was murdered in Arizona magister a blank.

But anyway, that she maybe had some responsibility in that anyway so kind of a weird situation, but this brings us back. He knew Palin Ms. Palin thought she was the faint lettuce editorial and so she filed a libel action against the New York Times and the New York Times is a long story and history where forgiveness he was reliable oriented defendant were going to trial.

Soon it just ministering or not settling. We we reporting the news and as this takes us back to some Supreme Court cases and enjoying. Talk to you by this ahead of time but but enter notes here. We talk a lot about New York Times Lisa Sullivan and that's the Supreme Court case. The kindest set the line on how a public figure which Ms. Palin is how they can see you for libel for defamation against a media outlet in newspaper who who is printed something maybe is derogatory or are not nice but you insults about that one, yet you know. So we talk about we talk about this.

This whole idea of libel. In general, especially when you talk about the press you get into the concept that we talked about in the past the competing interests of that First Amendment right the freedom of speech, freedom of the press you get into how that bout balances out against you know the fact that you can't just literally say anything you want, especially when you you are the press and when you have that when you have you to the ability to reach so many people to influence the masses.

There's going to be us, there's gonna be a line drawn somewhere where you can't again just say anything, especially something that's false.

Especially something that is going to to really damage the reputation of someone else by by the fact that it is false, and so basically what we had was that with this case that the New York Times be Sullivan during the civil rights movement of the 60s, the New York Times, they published an ad for contributing donations to defend Martin Luther King Jr. on perjury charges that he was facing at the time and that the ad contains several minor factual inaccuracies. This the city's public safety commissioner at the time who was ill be Sullivan. He felt that that the criticism that was was placed against his subordinates at the time reflected on him and even though he wasn't mentioned in the ad.

He sent a written request to the times asking them to publicly retract information which is what was required at the time when a public figure was seeking punitive damages in a libel action under the Alabama law. So when the times refused and claimed that they were kind of puzzled by his request, Sullivan filed his libel action against the times and against a group of African-American ministers that were mentioned in the ad so jury in state court awarded him 500,000 in damages.

The state Supreme Court affirmed in the times ultimately appealed to the Supreme Court where the question really was. Did Alabama's libel law unconstitutionally infringed on the First Amendment freedom of speech and freedom of press protection. So yeah, this is this is what we say this a lot.

This is a slippery slope.

You don't want of the press to be able to print just absolutely anything, they may. They want to, whether you have true or not true or are mean-spirited, are you intended to affect readership is so that's the Supreme Court balance session. We need if we need a price that's free to talk about leaders and talk about powerful people would report the news, but you also don't want them to have just a carte blanche to do anything you want to answer this case there's a lot in this lineage more than we have time to discuss now, but that was the ruling, the New York Times, one Supreme Court case because they said they needed actual the plaintiff.

The public figure.

The guy in Alabama need to show actual malice because he was a public figure and actual malice doesn't necessarily mean bad intent. It just means miraculous negligence. She did fact check this. You didn't get it near your new diligence. Sister never made it to print and so here the New York Times ever since then has taken a really strong position, yet we report the news you don't like it you think we've done something you think you been libeled. You think you been defamed, you sue us and will will see in court and and allow these court decisions have favored newspapers over over the years and so Sarah Palin again no matter what you may think of her. This is that this is towing the line you know there's some evidences come out there.

They had some editors on the stand and the person who wrote the piece on the stand under some conversations that editorial board had about what they wanted this to reflect and so you I think for the first time and in decades.

We got a case where the New York Times looks like maybe they they might have some actual malice zero at least close to it in jury might be convinced that they, maybe had it out for Sarah Palin and they were in a really trying to make her look bad linking her to the shooting and my notes.

It was US representative Gabby Giffords remember when that happened. The result yet. She was good. Giffords was seriously wounded and and a nine-year-old girl, among others, were actually killed in the attack and this and this editorial, made use. They think that evidence could be destroyed if they take the time to announce themselves in an and do a normal warrant. You serve a normal warrants of these are Oracle no knock warrants for the police don't really have to do some things they have to do what they can pretty much enter right away and and try to permit evidence from being tampered damage destroyed people getting away and so these are a relatively recent invention and there there, I guess the easiest thing to say is there there fraught with peril and in the most recent example up in Minnesota.

Mr. Amir Locke, a gentleman was asleep on his couch with his. He had his gun with them and that this officer serve this no knock warrant that a key so they had out that a warrant sign. They got the key at a time as they just entered is kind disturbing because I doesn't look like Mr. Locke was doing anything wrong. It is like Mr. Locke was really the subject of the search sound like they were looking for cousin, but it was an apartment because a note and was known to have frequented as Leo in here and we got Mr. Locke, who is on his couch with a gun asleep in his own apartment and that I think I read somewhere that is to be at it double check it but you know from body cam footage. The first officer. It's in the apartment and nine seconds later, Mr. Locke's deceased was a storm in there and just like you would expect. Please officer short serving worn SWAT teams or rewards do they find him.

He's arm. He gets up, he's our knees shot and killed in his own apartments. That's a pretty shocking story is going to get a lot of things already got a lot of press, but it's can be is put into getting a rest for a while but a lot of states, a lot of municipalities have outlawed this no knock warrant be used in a lot at the news.

Joe yeah and it's a nightmare, man, this is the absolute nightmare scenario. It's terrible and it's something that you hate to hear about any super incredibly unfortunate and you know, again we we like to.

We like to try to objectively look at these things we like to try to look at both sides of the coin and you know it's obvious if you if you look at this from for Mr. Locke's perspective. Anybody should have an issue with this because this is an individual that's in his own his own domicile illegally possesses this firearm. He's not.

It's not like he's is a criminal that's possessing it illegally and he's got no reason to suspect. The police are to be who were busting into his apartment. It is a tragedy man. Simply put it in a house that I was thinking about that enough to happen it at my house or you don't. You just can reacting on here you know I don't always have the eye legally possess guns.

You know, but I don't always have a gun on me. You with me when you have someone's busting your house. It it's it you we try to we try to again balance the equities and so obvious that we need law enforcement law enforcement. Did you know is is you keeps a lot of things working right in our society and citizens no national law enforcement.

I got a lot of family members of law enforcement, but yet it seemed. This just seems wrong right if I did this happen, you know, accidents of course happen, but here man is is dead is done nothing at all wrong, and I think I think we get hard right you you I think we as a society, the way things are reported to us.

You have to either support, you know, the blue line yet to hold the blue line you support law enforcement 100%. Are you you have to be anti-law enforcement yet. If you follow Matt's side. You never get sick, you defund the police side, which I think is is a small minority of the country you know it seems like you're forced one way or the other to be supportive. 100% might hear this should not happen you.

I think we have to re-examine and people are you know this should never happen. This is not something that you know a man should be killed in his own home because he is holding illegally own firearm in his own home.

This should not happen I think that incident I think we have to be able take a step back and no matter who you no matter what side of the defense, you're on yet to say what can we do because here you little bit about an avid rate is much as I wanted to but you know they were they they had a lot of evidence these cops had done their due diligence.

They were tracking down Mr. Locke's cousin is accusing center is in custody now is accused of murder and armed robbery. So we got some bad guys out there who commit some crimes.

We don't want those we will those guys to pay the price for those crimes want the police to be able to investigate them and and find those bad guys and and and bring them in, and that if they're guilty in theory to be convicted if if they're mistaken they'll be released just out supposed to work.

So here, the cop Sedona.a lot of research. They do a lot of investigations they attract.

This particular Mercedes-Benz that have been involved in and parked there three or four apartments they wanted to to search in his apartment building were the court employed the bad guys that had been. This is one of them and then got a no knock warrant signed in and a regular warrant sign so that they could use either one, depending on if they fall someone's getaway or whatever in the SWAT team went with the no knock but Manchester tough it out were not always here to make predictions coming give answers meet some things are just tough and I think you just have to, re-examine the way we do stuff and I will ask you knew some research, not warrants in North Carolina. I am not a criminal attorney by trade, may we have many fine criminal attorneys here in the firm their own court today.

I was in talk to some of them about it before I got on the air here, but yeah, I think, generally, even a year to see a movement against these no knock warrants you know I'm I'm sure useful in certain circumstances by new Florida Oregon Virginia they arty have bands I guess on the mayor Baltimore talking about.

There may be a band there, but nothing 13 states of explicitly banned no knock warrant selling price a lot more because it's it's tough the tough issue and what you touched on just that I want to go back to that I think is just super unfortunate that things have developed the way they have this. This doesn't just apply to this argument. It kinda permeates a lot of political issues, and it's the fact that like you said, it seems like at least at least the most vocal people come down so heavily on one side or the other of this argument.

Like you said it's it it's perceived, at least if you're if you keep up with social media and things like that.

Maybe that's a mistake. Maybe nobody should do that and take that hard but it just seems like so many people fall 100% on one side or 100% on the other side of so many issues when really everybody should have the ability to critically analyze both sides of the puzzle and you know you can't just look at everything that police do as being infallible and and and look at it as it's not subject to a deeper look at how things are done and in consideration of the other side and a note public safety and in keeping things like this from happening just like you can't go the defund the police route and not understand the difficulty that the police face every day and how incredibly difficult. That job is and how they are protecting the public interest. You know you I wish everybody could find a way to come to that that more middle ground where they can look at both sides and not get so stuck in one side of the argument because like you said, you can look at it as the no knock warrant state. They serve a purpose in a lot of ways enlightening others.

It's whether it be the destruction of evidence, or whether it be in, or the destruction of evidence being one thing I think the more important piece that could be used by someone trying to justify the no knock warrants is you note threat to officer safety because there's bad guys out there.

You know that or that are killing people and that the the police and the public have a vested interest. Obviously taken those folks down and safety can be an issue when when executing those warrants so so there is genuine concern, but at the same time. Is it worth it and you note this should never happen, ever, that they should end and everyone should be so adamantly opposed this happening. You note that everyone should really be up in arms about it and it should be reassessed to add to some incredible and discussion about the no knock warrant at work and probably revisit in future shows were up against the clock.
