When I saw the massive volume of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace on my friend’s bookshelf, I confessed, “I’ve never actually made it all the way through that.” “Well,” Marty chuckled, “When I retired from teaching, I got it as a gift from a friend who told me, ‘Now you’ll finally have time to read it.’ ”

The first eight verses of Ecclesiastes 3 state a familiar, natural rhythm of the activities of life with some arbitrary choices. No matter what stage of life we find ourselves in, it’s often difficult to find time to do everything we want to do. And to make wise decisions about managing our time, it’s helpful to have a plan (Psalm 90:12).

Time spent with God each day is a priority for our spiritual health. Doing productive work is satisfying to our spirit (Ecclesiastes 3:13). Serving God and helping other people is essential to fulfilling God’s purpose for us (Ephesians 2:10). And times of rest or leisure are not wasted, but refreshing for body and spirit.

Of course, it’s easy to become too focused on the here and now—finding time for the things that matter most to us. But Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has “set eternity” in our hearts—reminding us to make a priority of things that are eternal. That can bring us face to face with something of the greatest importance—God’s eternal perspective “from beginning to end.”

Hi friends and things for joining us for today's encouragement from Our Daily Bread. I really entitled time enough was written by Cindy Hesse Casper when I saw the massive volume of Leo Tolstoy's war and peace in my friend's bookshelf. I confessed I've never actually made it all the way through that well.

Marty chuckled when I retired from teaching. I got it as a gift from a friend who told me now you'll finally have time to read it the first eight verses of Ecclesiastes 3 state. A familiar natural rhythm of the activities of life. Some arbitrary choices. No matter what stage of life we find ourselves in its often difficult to find time to do everything we want to do and to make wise decisions about managing our time. It's helpful to have a plan. Time spent with God each day is a priority for our spiritual health.

Doing productive work is satisfying to our spirit serving God and helping other people is essential to fulfilling God's purpose for us in times of rest or leisure wasted but refreshing for body and spirit, of course, it's easy to become too focused on the here and now finding time for the things that matter most to us, but Ecclesiastes 311 says that God has set eternity in our hearts, reminding us to make a priority of the things that are eternal that can bring us face-to-face with something of the greatest importance God's eternal perspective from beginning to end today's Our Daily Bread devotional Scripture reading is from Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verses one through 13. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens time to be born in a time to die. A time to plant and a time to uproot a time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them a time to embrace and the time to refrain from embracing a time to search and the time to give up a time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend the time to be silent and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate.

A time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil. I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time.

He has also set eternity in the human heart.

Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.

Each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil. This is the gift of God.

Let's pray Jesus. There are so many pressing and urgent matters in this life and it's easy for us to lose sight of eternal things that help us to maintain a healthy balance of the two, so that we don't become discouraged by the weighty matters of today but are filled each day with the hope that you give us for tomorrow. Thank you, Lord. It's in your name that we pray. Amen.
