This is what you have. Even this is our American stories. We love to tell stories about everything. One of our favorite subjects American history next story about one of the most important battles of the 20th century, December 7, 1941. Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese forces in the Pacific Fleet was nearly wiped out. We entered World War II down and out looking for major victory. That victory would come at Midway small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, peers, writer and Claire tell the story of this major battle 2.4 mi.² Midway Atoll was annexed by the last 6 to 7 descriptively imaginatively named Eastern sand islands and tell them they were useful for resources by their allure lay in their strategic location until was about halfway between Asia and the last bar I suppose you could say Midway and pretty close to Hawaii and 1940 work on getting that area set up with air and submarine facilities. Now the battle away was actually not the first time in World War II came under fire on December 7, 1941.

Shortly after Pearl Harbor. Japanese forces also attacked engagement was fairly short but there was still lots of life. One notable case was Lieut. George H. Who became the first US Marine medal of honor in World War II.

Six months later in May 1942 Japanese goals toward Midway were more ambitious now. Adm. Yamamoto of the Japanese Navy had his eyes the distraction of midways defenses in the nation all by Japanese forces set the date for the attack. June 4 with Midway hopefully flattened and occupied by the second.

Now there were course to the planned just revolved around the American commander Adm. Nimitz falling for a little misdirection because the Japanese forces were going to split up. Yamamoto sent a smaller force to attack Alaska's Aleutian Islands just before the main attack on Midway. The American forces were drawn up to Alaska that would open up the southern Pacific areas around Midway around Hawaii for notice forces to come in and do what they wanted to. Thankfully the American crypt. Analysts had broken the Japanese naval codes. They had an idea that Midway was the main target, and so Adm. Nimitz planned a surprise now knowing that Midway was the gold Americans were at a disadvantage because the Japanese had four aircraft carriers to bring to Midway US had to operationalize the Pacific apartments in the enterprise. The Yorktown was still there but it was Carolyn and pretty damaged at the coral sea. The shipyard workers at Pearl had said that it was going to take three months to really get the Yorktown was ready to go out and fight again, to which Adm. Nimitz responded he was going to need it three days instead and pretty amazingly as can be said for a lot of the work done by shipyard workers. Other other supporting people during the war time they made happening at the Yorktown sailing in time. Now the commanders in charge here Adm. Frank Fletcher of North Yorktown to Steve overall tactical command and rear Adm. Raymond sprints aboard the enterprise both moves their ships into position to await the anticipated attack. Hopefully Adm. Yamamoto was coming. They were there. Now of course the tricks with naval battles.

This time was finding the force because the oceans are pretty thin price so the planes have to go out and hopefully with good weather and hopefully get a look at where exactly the enemy were coming from and they could end up just missing each other completely self flights from Midway made daily searches, scanning the seas for the Japanese fleet now at 545 on June 4 patrol plane called in enemy planes and spotted shortly thereafter. PGY spotted the main body of Japanese ships, including some carriers so first of all Midway Atoll's defending planes took off and be caught grounded like American forces in the Philippines and other places had been the Japanese planes met them. Records show that the American planes were pretty well swarmed.

Each pilot trying to shake from one to five, Japanese fighters, peace and it was a pretty intense fight for the American planes because the Japanese zeros have a double advantage of being more maneuverable and also having more seasoned pilots. One of midways groups of pallets had only had a week of training in their planes before the attack now of the 27 American planes that were defending the atoll by the end of the battle at this stage. 15 of them are missing seven were severely damaged and by 6:30 AM. The first bombs are already falling on Midway itself, with the result of all of the aboveground structures being destroyed or damaged. They had done their best Japanese forces were checked and most of midways fighters were gone.

Three of the Japanese carriers were so either on damage or at least damage enough to actually hamper them self that was the first stage of the battle, but there's a lot more to come now though the planes from the enterprise Yorktown still waiting.

Finally out of sight had to have their say and you listen to writer employer told the story of the battle of Midway emerging story of a miserable 27 planes by the other 15 are missing seven or damaged some really tragic drugs when we come back more with the employer on the battle of Midway Q stored the stories we tell about this great country and especially the stories of America's rich past all of our stories about American history division. We returned to our American storage mystery of the battle of Midway. We must lift off the first pooch of the battle of Midway. The resultant Japanese victory, but the tide was about to change major work. Jim is unclear until the store after the initial attack on the Midway Atoll Japanese Adm. Nichol was running operations. They are at now that things are going quite well.

The goal had been to engage Midway quickly and stealthily enough that the American Navy wouldn't be able to intervene in time and as far as his patrols and told him after these first hits on the mantle it succeeded.

More importantly, they had spotted any American aircraft carriers and they were really expecting. Now when his pilots radioed in that another strike. Midway itself was necessary. After that initial assault began operations to do this, the planes and hangers need to be re-armed with bombs rather than torpedoes.

Now this is a little bit of a process according to what my sources would likely take me 40 would take a little while Gail planes rearmed again. Since there hadn't been any aircraft carrier cited that wasn't a big deal necessarily. But as they were rearming. The planes were team in at least one American aircraft. Spotted after all, now will faced a difficult choice he needed to shift his attention to this carrier. However, his planes returning from Midway need to refuel and rearm and they were still those in the hangar that were being ready for another assault on the grounds so he made his choice and this was the choice that would greatly impact the outcome of the battle and history as well decided that they would wait the return of the Midway attack and then carry out air attack so is all a matter of timing.

The Japanese their planes in the air in time to attack the US ships or what is for carriers. We caught their flight while I was there trying to figure all this out task forces were waiting quietly word came that the Japanese carriers had been cited, and so they prepare to enter the fray inside of there being a pretty uncooperative wind. The enterprise important launch their scout boundaries, torpedo planes and fighters. Yorktown's plans were temporarily held in reserve. Unfortunately, the American pilots didn't know their targets and move. Now the enterprise and hornet did not break radio silence to inform pilots in this so the Hornets fighters and bombers turned south and they miss the Japanese carriers completely exhausting refuel and a lot of land. However, the torpedo squadron from become separated from the main group they turn north and they discover the areas torpedo squadron was supposed to be supported by other planes by they didn't have them and plan to attack. Anyway, one by one, of 15 made it back to their ship now with our behind the words torpedo squadron came the enterprises torpedo planes is planes came in again without fire protection but also they attacked anyway and it's unlikely that most of them had a chance to draft doesn't try. Now, unlike the previous attackers Yorktown pilots did have some fire protection at first. However, they were quickly expanding aircraft and yet another torpedo squadron began its approach pretty well alone. There were a lot of heavy losses in these different groups that there was some success of the three carriers under torpedo attack all of that and also the valiant efforts of these torpedo planes had to results that had a really huge impact on the battle. First, the Japanese carriers were kept busy maneuvering in a way to launch their own bombers and secondly the Japanese fighters were flying low torpedo attacks, which meant they were unprepared for the approach of highflying US very little opposition until after they dropped bombs and had scored at least 11 direct simultaneously. The Yorktown stage bombers attacked the carrier to the East scoring at least five direct hits they wreaked havoc on the carrier's flight deck as the surviving US planes returned their respective carriers. The most powerful fleet was left with three carriers hits and inflames by the planes returned the Yorktown didn't have a whole lot of time to celebrate. They were quickly warrant take off again and head over to the enterprise because word came that Japanese forces were headed to attack the Yorktown self insight of antiaircraft fire and depending fighters Japanese plantains managed to land three, 250 kg bombs on the Yorktown before being shot down explosions on the aircraft carrier started fires and extinguished all but one of the Yorktown spoilers.

Now the carrier's crew set to work and soon actually got the carrier limping along again and able to start reviewing her surviving fighters then word came from one of the accompanying ships. The Pensacola widget and monitoring radar that more Japanese planes were approaching. Now the Yorktown launcher planes and ships that screamed or set up a heavy curtain of antiaircraft fire to protect the wounded carrier only to Japanese torpedoes hit home but they were enough attempts to restore power failed and everything went dark below the tax theory.

Yorktown would just capsize completely.

Orders were given to abandon ship. Lieut. Joseph Pollard was a flight surgeon shared memories in writing of the bands in describing how hard it was to stand on the slick deck searching for life preserver is trying to find a way to get the wound and safely off the ship now ship stood by to rescue the survivors as meanwhile American planes had located the source of these attacks that fourth Japanese aircraft carrier. After six DirectX that carrier was also inflames which left US pilots in control of the year, the final stages of the battle of Midway took the next couple of days.

During it all. The Yorktown did remain afloat the crippled salvage crews even returned to the carrier, hoping to repair her enough to get her back home and in the process of finding and saving some wounded who been overlooked in the evacuation until about 1:35 PM when four torpedo weeks recited the Yorktown ride. The impact was tremendous, but she still sing greatly at 330 someone noticed that the Yorktown's list was increasing again 501, she disappeared into the sea. So in spite of the loss of Yorktown and the many, many paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Midway mild unquestionably being an American victory. Japan's loss of four aircraft carriers and over 100 irreplaceable training pilots really derail their plans for expansion. The Pacific was a major turning point in the war, which is probably one reason why Hollywood's made movies about it. Special thanks to new employer were swimming on record what happened in the middle of the Pacific and the most important battle in our history and to disarm and eliminate from competition or aircraft carriers is a big deal if you receive an aircraft carrier been on one know you'll make them in a day or week how importantly our Navy battles and how important it is to protect those. What they are and what they mean. The significance of taking them out. What was was indeed the turning point in the war in the Pacific story of Midway.
