Kingdom versus where you hear from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into kingdom pursuits now live from the truth. Your host Robbie Gilmore.

I am so excited on this person amazing. Just amazing folks that we get to hear how God takes their passion and uses it to build the kingdom. First off, we have my friend Rob Helmer who is with the Winston-Salem rescue Mission and Rob were going to talk about your other things that people may not know about on the rescue mission front today here in Winston-Salem. The a medical clinic in the trustor where the three-story medical clinic in a clothing closet and the volunteers and we serve meals at the homeless. So we lack talk about an area now and also first time ever on the show we have grace Galen Grace is author, speaker, she isn't a couple of books but she speaks on healing our brokenness in and honestly it seems like God is comforted you so now you're using that to comfort others.} I guess it would help if I click the button so Grace could hear Grace some God kinda comforted you through something so that now you're you're able to do that through your ministry. I take my experience and I and so you can imagine that this being kingdom pursuits organize speaking of healing and broken.

That's what you working right and I'm passionate about and being alone.

They can let go of their past it with a feature that got everyone play go so speaking of healing and broken. Grace told me that wounds heal better if the cover, Rob, this is an example of God's effect and inveterate Meme notice to the veteran veteran Mary and knows how to make a dog really and moving on to broken every oven in the restaurant was broken so the patrons got a raw deal. That's just part and if you write with a broken pencil well it's pointless. I'm saying you know them same and I don't know if you Cats but our cat is finally housebroken, literally it'll come to you anyway. You know the end of all the shenanigans I would actually have a riddle and here's my riddle today, which, if you listen though as show you should be able to mail this one is pretty easy. This biblical brother had the gift of grab that is his brothers heel which was this particular patriarch brokenness. This biblical brother had the gift of grab that is his brothers heel which was this particular patriarch's brokenness. If you can answer that little fill in the blank so to speak, 866 the gift of grab back on, like 866-34-TRUTH, 878-848-6634 truth, we would love to have you and if you call in Jasper taught that we know when a book from the top.

There you go, and we have quite a selection from all the wonderful authors that we had on over the years you called out 866-34-TRUTH 87884 866-34-TRUTH this biblical brother have the gift of grab that is his brothers heel which was this patriarch's brokenness. 866-34-TRUTH 87884. Moving on.

Also, from what I understand grace you were working at a ministry in Orlando. Sort of a housing complex. What happened. Oh, I'm sorry. That's how much I know that's right.

It is something I know where I live is where the national show. Today I forgotten that that's right. Highlighting compact and burning out.my father, my brother, getting your depression and help out, and the journey that God brought me to let I wrote in my book to help others mocking that same journey. So you lost so your burnout in this ministry and you lost your father and your brother was in a related situation or they just know they both had cancer and a pathway department getting cancer from my well-developed lung answer actually while how much is really hard to want somebody pathway from and so you lost your father you lost your brother and so were you married at the time for young children while complicated a little bit so can you take us back to that place kind and sincere.

What would happen on my almost blank depression and all the bottom.I couldn't eat, sleep. I go to craft.

I'm normally a person didn't show much emotion, but the most boring and everywhere. I didn't like it. I thought and I didn't get kicked off, I became great in a range that my notions were totally out of control and tracing it back realized I had some emotional wounds my childhood and outlet. I had to walk to all those old memories of the counselor and the Lord and God gave me a verse that help me email and I picture and put my name in Scripture and personalize everything I read doctrinally yield as I think about that and that you can relate to this tonight. I can remember after my mother passed away.

I would just find myself crying uncontrollably like where did that come from and I had no idea and and and and often it was exactly as you describe Gail God was trying to get something that was down in their that he knew needed some healing and and Rob. I know you've been through quite a bit yourself before you join the staff. The rescue mission.

Can you relate to that elopement absolutely every night. Everything I went through my whole downfalls or starting my father passed away and my father.

I real close and he passed away and I just started tumbling spirally. Did you have that same emotional kind of place where all my goodness, you just found yourself in the day. I just when he passed he was my best friend in me when EME past it was just very difficult to deal with how old were you when that happened.

38. So it's been a few years but yeah, and as I recall you had a really good job at the time. Yes I did.

I have had a great job but workwise everyone find.

I was just doing that emotional part of my father being gone because as I grew up was in the same business as my father am wheeze when we have lunch together three times a week and we're always hanging out together. So and also he was gone I could share ideas with him and then he was quick on the LC was gone and so was hard and it still is a stillness and to this day, so at an end.

So well the good news is we got all these revelers working to get. I have an entire show to get into to gate Grace's story in the in the Rob story enforced. We got the rescue mission really got Vicki's in Charlotte and she knows about this young man who had the gift of grab Vicki your thinking versus good morning.

Great. Yes, you're exactly right Vicki and you know that that ended up being sorted his lifestyle of grab in his brothers heel there for for a number years right and only hairy arm treat treatment and everything that belonged to Krista Carter's help in my listings that listen all my stuff you for calling your winter to Donna's in Wake Forest.

We got so much more come up with Gail and Rob Hillmer with Winston-Salem rescue mission and Gail. She is author and speaker up there in Canada's website and always a kingdom pursuits.com as well as links to the rescue mission there medical clinic and thrift store is much more come in upstate and uses it to build the kingdom. We are so blessed today to have with us Rob Hillmer was with Winston-Salem rescue Mission today want to talk about their medical clinic in their thrift store and we have grace Gail from Ontario for its Rob pointed out. I said Florida Ontario. I was in the same ballpark right Robbins in North America and she is wonderful author and speaking speaker on healing our broken's brokenness is, you know, it's amazing to me how it says in first Corinthians that may the God of all comfort, comfort you, with the comfort that he wants to comfort others with right and and so you know God is given her this and now she's sharing and similarly Rob is a graduate of the Winston-Salem rescue Mission know how wonderful is that you go into this place of really broken death and God uses that as my friend and I think you both can relate to this. Bob Young, my Christian junkyard guy he once said what I thought made me disqualified, made me uniquely qualified an instrument, and so I read something interesting that at your website it says that you poured out those emotions when we are talking meta-grief earlier and and I'm thinking about my own grief at the loss. My mother you poured out those emotions to God and can you tell us was that in prayer how to how exactly did that happen. Well, God you are you gotta let me show me a guy like that happened to me and only got all day long and decided to keep pouring the anger.

Also, I like that anger along with my broken at nightly Journal.

I partly motion family is just a constant interaction with God, and him thinking back to me on any and so when you wrote the book again to expect that what what's the name of the book okay.

Originally the booklet from victim to Victoire and that came out in 2012 and last year and it broken into nine block called hearing emotional wounds with more material added in a workbook at the back of each one will people can work through their issues and found that block is actually letting a person take a looking at my hand and I'm going to make a lien. And my journaling pouring out my heart when I was really thinking and how God answered me in the Scriptures. He gave me how that came about changing me and putting my name right in the first made tech a powerful impact on my and so it's interesting that that at this point where it would appear.

God is taken something terribly evil loss of your father and your and your brother and use that as an instrument to illuminate things that were in your own life where he didn't kinda need to reorder them and and so when you have a chance. I understand your speakers what word you speak, I around Ontario at that point. I'm hoping to go further broad character. I think on various aspects of the hearing.

Sometimes I'll speak on a Bible character and Diane Darrell broken pallet height nine.

What's your favorite favorite Bible to her broken rest of anyone's. I think one of them is the Samaritan woman at the well really don't broken rest of the community living talk to her by speaking to the well at noon and all the other women came early in the morning and keep it matter where she put that really really did, and I'm wondering Rob in your own story. Did you get isolated isolated like that where you didn't feel like you really have anybody any place to go. No, absolutely, I know my diet isolated alcohol and and yeah I we're talking I feel about my family. I don't speak much to my family because they just had nothing to do with me after a while. So yeah, absolutely, always. I felt all alone.

One point I can talk to anybody and I didn't have anybody to talk to so I turned some other things which I should've done by the end when one was when I was at the lowest point in my life.

God was still there. He never abandoned me and now it's just praise him every day and so you know in my own life. I think Rob and we share similar name that those things which really really really hurt when when you pour that out to God, he puts you in a place you never could have been in if you hadn't found yourself there all absolutely. I mean, I I if you know me two years ago. I can tell you then allow streams where I think I will write that I think I'd be where I'm at now. I was not denied thought to be dead so I now here on this adventure with Winston-Salem rescue Mission here was if say having fun not just having fun, but you have a kindred purpose.

You know you're right. That's what it meant reaching out to men that you see God's doing the same work in their life. Absolutely I see a lot of them just about guys is graduated from Guenther GDS for Cytec another three of my college and that's incredible see these guys coming, completed, broken, myself included, and see where they've gone with Don in over a year and 1/2 two years and it's amazing amazing what God can do for you yet. One of those guys is if we both know well is Dennis Braden who is on the masculine journey with us, but he's also reason full-time employee.

Now at the BB of J rate and is doing an afternoon show and if if you could've seen them four years ago he was that at that place that your talk about Gail where we literally could not get them out of the house. We would call and say Dennis come to this.

You know and and and isolation is kinda where Satan would really like to get you in good working relation. Does anyone out, but interestingly there you were on still take myself back there with the three small children and how old are they now are 3930 31. Wow. I went to that prospect that God put at Diane my heart well is going through this whole journey to write a book and write my story EL that it took me 16 years before it actually out because I have it working, raising children, and before I really had that kind down and write it out with anything but if I had when I first went through it a little bit more about my journey but since God has continued to work in my life and continue to mature me become more of God story and what he can do in people like that are broken and amazing that he number one. I'm just thrilled to death in one of the reasons I love doing the show as I'm hoping people listening that they felt this call. Like God wants you to write a book or God wants me to do a movie or God wants me to help out at the rescue mission or teach windsurfing or whatever you feel this call in your life to do something that you healed yielded at the point in time when you you felt like it was his time and that always takes me on this amazing adventure everything to be on the radio, North Carolina, and back then I think I panic at it now know why I you know when God called me to do radio which is you know what happened in my life. I was terrified of you know that public speaking is not anything that you know is all that easy for a lot of people, including me. One of these easy for most people, and so there you are in, but once you know I've watched this over the years that now I have people on my shall readily have never been on the radio before never even dreamed of ever being on the radio before their very very very very nervous and you may want to Robbie.

Why do we always start out with these crazy jokes to drive your wife crazy, which really doesn't like it so they're totally embarrassed and the reason I filled out put that out there was to relax everybody to say working to have fun and then I watch them as they begin to share what God's done in their life.

They go from terrified to sin is the Holy Spirit shows up. They poured out. It just comes right on out once once because God spoke the words in your mouth, so to speak.

He really really does and it's interesting Rob you been in advertising.

Most your life but yet the public speaking part of it was nothing that lobbed a lot of public speaking.

I just was never comfortable with it and the first time, we saw when I came on the radio. I have to say you made me feel very comfortable. So this time around. Again, no problem and I'm glad to know were so excited about what God's doing to the rescue mission and and meeting people.

There and in so many different ways in one of the ways that you guys do that is through this medical clinic right is not disguising to come off the street that are home right well the only we have that the guide part of it where we do the. The recovery programs but then we also have our community service programs to which we offer free medical dental clinic that is two times a week and it's free for anybody wants to come do it just can't have insurance and we have gracious doctors that come in and volunteer their time three or four hours a day as we offer that master was served over 1700 people at that. We also have a clothing closet. If you're homeless or unique quality or if you have a family that needs clothing come down. According closet and get free close that we got more so much more coming your way from the rescue mission and from grace which I love your name grace. It didn't fit so well with your personality and your heart when we come back here more grace. The story and more from the West Salem rescue mission.

They tune so much more pursuits, welcome back to kingdom first context your passion and uses it to build the kingdom. Today we are so blessed to have with his grace gaily. She's an author and speaker has a couple books out and many more coming. One called the making of grace in another healing emotional wounds and she's talk about all those different things and we have Rob Hillmer who is here with Winston-Salem rescue mission and talk about some of the other projects that you may not heard about before, so it we talked about it before that you have something that you are think about giving a goodwill. You know they have a thrift store that are you know there's a dog down there.

My wife and I bring whenever we have anything close or anything like that week we take it there because they don't just have that situation there for the homeless people to come in and come through there to programs that we talked about many times on the show that the life builders program and there is transformer and but they have just like you describe a close closet and a food pantry in the in the in the medical thing but tell him about this food pantry reminisces cool people can actually come in with the with the groceries cart and pick out what they want it. We do is skulk my choice food pantry and you command and register and then we take you into another area would qualify for that anybody can come once every 60 days and I all you his identification and you qualify. If you have a child you have to have a dentist for the child to and then we give your grocery cart and so let me get this right anybody that needs food right. All you have to do is show up with your ID once in 60 days and you get a grocery cart and off you go get coffee going on to other other direct you food pantry and a steady letter from Brent is you go to and receive a food okay here you take your grocery cart you up Niles you pick out what you want. We have need sweet milk. We have all that stuff and you pick out what you want and you get into boxes and film full and then you go on your way.

Last year we served over 2000 people, 54,000 meals and 54,000 meals and snacks at him for 4354 and in the beauty of that for me like the Jesus labor love which we do through the Christian car guy show when people are getting this food or they're getting the medical attention or the getting my clothes from a close closet it's coming in the name of Jesus and they know that he's the one that's meeting the need ultimately absolutely you know, not goodwill all right know absolutely have some other charity or even the harvest food bank or some of them. It is this come specifically with the message absolutely comes with the message Dalia unique bars. We have a lot of partners and we not only receive so much food from our partners at only to us, that we furnish numerous other food pantries in the city.

We also hand out free lunches and free dinners every day to the homeless and make a lot of window to sign a piece paper and you get a lunch or dinner, never wanted everybody's understanding this, you see those people out there in the corner and we talked about it many many times in you can literally tell them look if you go to the rescue mission in that they will give you a feel right this minute that it will give you a couple sandwiches and an apple or orange and and a bottle of water and a couple cookies and you can take on your way and and so you know this is absolutely there for the community. You know what a resource while I know this is America know we should go hungry in this country know we should go hungry, and so we offer that because we are blessed by our donors who don't need the stuff to us and we continue doing it.

It's just a blessing for us and I think it's a blessing to the homeless in the community right in which is a picture of grace. Well, you know, it really is that you know Jesus is full of grace and truth and and I I don't know that I can never really plumb the depths of that completely. But that word grace means so much in my own life.

Grace is is I think it you know his favor of me is beyond my understanding beyond my belief and people feel favor when they're getting food or when they're getting close but in your case you're getting healing and how many story we work with young, young daughter and she gave her life to the Lord and she started broadcasting Christian music all over the area in her window grandly at every window and keep her parents bad and I broadcasting Christian music filled the whole area and we just are transformed walking with the Lord. Incredible is that's wonderful and and get see the fruit of your ministry is is is really a huge blessing so the book that you have there on your website that I know this is called the making of grace.

What went into that title wrote last year that my autobiography and that covered my feelings very different angle and my husband hearing journey.

It's basically a story how God brought you broken people together and then walked into the healing and it talked about the starting of our ministry.

The first book coming out and the absolute obedience, God required of me going to step so there you were right in your house than this. You were married to him. I assume at the time that you lost your father and you lost your brother and you and he sees you. Going into this deep depression and and he sees you start to ignite this relationship with Christ. Where was he spiritually at that point are very angry at God point way of dealing with God and God had to take him to a lot of physical ailment where he dealt with him and get an error and a flashback then click child many years for him to calculate only work on it when I see any other man. Okay, you really do like the sand up in our heads and until it's absolutely necessary to deal with some of these issues so how did you love him well through that grace not very well have a G at that time though actually almost ended up in divorce during that time because we were very codependent and dysfunctional, and when I could no longer be what he married.

Then he became angry at me because I can no longer need the way he wanted them and quickly then let that meeting my knee catching that angry because of the whole situation and we get to young children. It was a kind of thing. Time we came very close. Shockingly died birthday by healing car magnets now restored is undoubtedly some listening you know when it got painful enough. Your husband at this site. Did the dishes up the you know like like me when the mind when my marriage gets painful enough.

I I turned to actually other resources outside myself to go in and there he found himself in. That's in a similar situation with It orchestrated. It really yeah you took to bring about and then how wonderful it, you know, because I I think about my own marriage, grace, and honestly, the struggles, and how many times we were course close to that and and you know my wife's grace for me actually and I think I get to share my kids still write I get to share my grandkids.

I get to share with you know the love of my life, so to speak, and that's that's a real treasure that he saved for you Denny. I look at women now working. They are still broken.

They have no relationship there, living in tiny little couriers because they can't afford anything more. Believe me, I see plenty men out there that are living alone and and you know it's awkward for them to see their kids and and there's a lot of struggle and I don't say that for anybody to feel any shame that may be there because obviously God's got plans for all of us to redeem us from all that but I say that for people are sitting on the edge of this: while please think through the decisions that you're making and think how you can turn that broken place on towards God and he's gonna provide healing and one of the ways he's doing that. Obviously it is through your book series. We get all kinds of email people saying you should be in every church should be in every store, hearing it, you know, I've been looking for.

I had one woman write me.

She had not heard a book signing chapter and she cannot keep right away and kept pouring in her story and a month later I get an email I meditate on it very Day on antidepressant and I just want to tell you that. Finally I found medication work and that it putting my my name in the Scriptures that you have in your book well and I think that to rob this wheeze interviewed so many people over the years of the rescue mission. How many of those guys were either at suicide, attempted suicide tried suicide that that's often that was me the answer I was God's grace and these were grace to signal grace through God's grace. She showed me a way out and I followed it, and continue following it and and so that that is an interesting horrible pattern to some extent that you know where Satan really gets a lot of functions like that point to such despair that they don't see any other way. Then God opened up the lightning and there she was standing at your door and Rob's case. He heard about a rescue mission. So we come back we got more coming from Rob Endres and of course you're always looking the following with your story, 866348788 that passion and uses it to build the kingdom and we got to poster children of that today. Grace Gail who is an author or speaker. She's written lots of different books really amazing God has taken her story of brokenness and using it to build the kingdom and Rob Hillmer, who was with Winston-Salem rescue Mission here in Winston-Salem you may be listening today in Richmond or you may be listening in Raleigh New Orleans except doing well every single city of it that we have a signaling that I'm aware of has a rescue mission. I visited the one in Charlotte.

I visited the one in Richmond.

I visited the one in Durham and the one in Raleigh and so each of them have similar programs and one of things like I I just think is a real treat to take your family on.

If you're thinking what can we do this weekend or next weekend. We want to go on a family adventure to see some you want to see something go on a tour to rescue mission because when you go on that tour. Your family is going to see Jesus.

It works absolutely that he is going to work wonders in seeing and in one of the things it always touches my heart is what impact you walking in there you that listen to me right now you walk into a rescue mission and every guy that's there that's desperate that is isolated himself that think that nobody cares about him. See somebody that must care and it and everybody that you seek coming in right realizing that their donors and all that stuff every one of those things impacts all the people in the mission for hope right absolutely a the other churches I command everybody that comes admission impacts the guys there and it's all positive right and you may be ending yet Kim County today in your thinking. What if we got what you have about 5 acres. We do you have Alf Akers right out there and they would love to give your tour out there.

The that the truth is that God is at work in all these different places and you know to to take your family into one of those really when I took my family on several different tours like this through the end they all got connected and realized you know that God is at work and a lot of people when they get to that place which gets me to another point is I was thing about your story. Grace that you were a Christian when this all started happening to you right right and so because you know Christ and because you essentially saved in your get to spend eternity with Jesus gives you know, not even close to healing bits available in Christ but is through your whole matured process that God keeps making you more and more ready for the kingdom) that right and bring others along with mature just like you talked about always people in the Bible take King David right.

I mean, there he was, you wrote the 23rd Psalm only stuff it in before Bathsheba right before Absalom and all these things happen. He found himself in a place where God was coming after him to make him a better king for eternity all the way through his journey at an end to essentially give him grace, think about when I think of the word grace and I thinking David, you know, there he was in and look at the 51st Psalm looked down and there were. He says restore to me the joy of my salvation is what he did for you by grace. I pointed Like I time and even know I had three small children.

I didn't think I had a meeting again now and then God took gradually five years for me to lock you that during and a lot of money field overnight where family with instantly because we bring have compassion for others that had trundle along the journey that wonderful insight that wrangling is what transforms.my struggles with God you really got me. Yeah I know you died for me that you really love me as an individual could I know you died for the whole world and that insight can't form my delight. So what verse do you have your name is inserted so that one that you do but just throw the one that shows that there for okay let me give you an example of a common but very I know the plans I have a great plan, plans to prosper you not harming and to give you great hope and a future.

The fact that he had planned for my light showed interested in me as an individual, like everybody at Blanco different core of the very fact that he had my life out on a daily basis that in all the circumstances I think even planned all the hurt in the womb is because he had a future for me and he had to transform me into the shape of my future really had to kick me where I live and bring me to all the valleys and stormed finding shaped and molded Teacher. He wanted me to.

So awesome. So as I took just John 316 and said for God so loved Robbie 16 for God so loved Robbie that he you know, gave his only begotten son that that I would but Robbie would have eternal life. But the one that that really changed my whole thought on grace grace. I gotta tell you, and I have actually inserted by name in it that I didn't know anything about your book, but in in in the Isaiah 61 near you know after the beginning of the first advertisement. In fact, Jesus quoted in that particular part of Isaiah 6. When I came to, he let the brokenhearted and set the captives free, but where I inserted my own name was where he did came to declare the year that Robbie was his favorite, and that immense things to me when you say I declare that this is the year the Lord's favor which is the way that's translated a lot of places that sounds cool but it does not sound near as cool as this is the year that Robbie is my favorite and I realized it robs his favorite and graces his favorite tube at the fact that I'm his favorite is really impressive to me and so I love your idea because I know how that changed my view of grace, just inserting you know that into that particular Scripture, which I call the RSV, the Robbie standard version. A copy of that but Robbie if you had a similar experience. Yeah, I yell at what amazes.

What's amazing to me is and I'm a big guy can cope or love Scripture in itself, but what's amazing to me is what is transferred the past years. My life and I own two years ago when I I just said okay God I want to give this to you and Lucy retake me. The doors of opening amazing things have happened to me and the friends I've developed and working in the for working for the mission and something I have a passion about just two years ago I couldn't never's seen any of this. I mean two years ago. It is just it. It constantly amazes me. I I wake up in the morning going out to get here in Ojai got there because I chose to follow.I chose to follow his footsteps and let him lead me you know for 50 some years.

II believe me we need a didn't work out so now I let God lead me, and I don't make any decisions. And as I pray about it and it's just amazing what is happened to me the past two years. Some, but I love but there's little nugget you gave in their your friends.

I and everybody I've known that graduate from rescue mission. They come out with the community they they went in totally insulated and isolated.

They came they come out connected that I just took Christ but connected to the body. I yeah had the guys in the in the mission I'm connected with and I met some friends for my church and the we went, had breakfast couple resellers eight of us and just sat around, had breakfast, and is just incredible that friendship and where that has come from and where that's going in there. They're all there for me if I need him so it's it's just following God is been the right move shoe. I wish I would've done it 30 years ago. But God has his own battle zone plan to. He knows what to do with you.

I think you know there so many wisdom cries out in the streets is also crying out on the Internet. I'm just telling it. As you can go to WS rescue.com or United Kingdom pursuits that comment and find the links for things that they got going on in the 5K race coming on the got a banquet going on in the fall. They got graduation this September at always different things as you connect to the rescue mission I can. I can assure you, you're going to be connecting the place for brokenness is finding healing through Christ and the same thing. Wisdom is crying out through grace and kingdom pursuits right from healing our brokenness.
