Your host Robbie Gilmore well it's early November. How funds were thinking Turkey and if you're a goblin that up anyway were also thinking postelection right. It just happened. So it's interesting that I know a lot of you may want to Robbie. Do you sit there and schedule these things out months in advance or whatever but it's interesting God kinda orchestrates our guests and that's it's kind of interesting to me that this particular show would have something to do that but again, as you listen, we always are hoping that you will hear something in what God called these folks to do that will encourage you with something you know you and knowing you call to write that book he calls you make that movie he called you, teach, bow and arrow at a Christian camp.

I don't really what it is. But if you will go on that adventure will be amazing. So to start off, we have Tonya and Greg Skelley good morning and you're with. Pray Rowand now for those who are in Richmond Virginia this morning. They probably don't know what Rowand is, but Rowand if I'm not mistaken is and was the largest county in North Carolina. At one point in time that is and used to encompass Davie County and also to other counties, but it's a huge County in the center of North Carolina and it really is kind of the heart of our state is great history there going oddly back to George Washington and on top Indians and it's it's pretty it's an incredible area that we in particular live and Salsberry which is in Rowand County. Yes, it is lots of neat stuff in and Salsberry and so Pray Rowand what moral and is praying about where Annie's prank.

I people are praying in Rowand County and Don and and got his meeting and his people and it's it's powerful it's powerful and surreal. Find out a little bit about how pray Rowand happen.

Obviously, commission is a big deal to me.

So what what is capital commission to Robbie the capital commission is a a nationwide nonprofit, nonpolitical ministry, but it operates in the political arena. We operate in the state capitals in our nation, we operate in Raleigh and we are there to minister to the capital community.

We are right there with the legislature with the staffers with the lobbyist with all those that are operating right there at the state capital and were providing chaplaincy services we are providing Bible studies and we have a lot of ministries going on soon events Chapel services prayer breakfasts we do the national Day of prayer pre-election prayer walk so there are a lot of minutes there is a lot of ministry that is operating through the capital commission and the state minister they are in Raleigh while on how long have you been with capital commission, so I am actually transitioning.

I am the new incoming state minister with capital commission. I have been a legislator in Raleigh for the past eight years and so I have been part of capital commission as a legislator, participating with capital commission made the decision early in my fourth term that I would retire at the end of this term. So I'm retiring from the legislature and when we returned with the Gen. assembly in 2019. I will be the state minister for capital commission say that is The land on my show, so I'm excited. I am very excited to hear what Bert has to share. He probably is insight that is amazing, especially in the state of North Carolina but speaking of commissions, you knew I would do that, Rachel. This is where we play the music because I can't do my jokes about their speaking of Wall Street bankers who receive good commissions will let you know about them as they come from good stock going through that country had many car salesman asked for a drawn there commission back when I was there I would offer all my music okay were started.

So there wasn't pray Rowand and then there was pray Rowand did you take part in why did God get your attention on highways and that I was doing about a year and half ago a Bible study and Bible study with BSF international Bible study that my wife does. It's just great amazing you're studying a book out of the Bible at any years time he go really deep. We got to John 17 John 1721 through 23 where I Jesus is praying to God and he's praying to God very specifically and what he's saying and said is that he prays that believers would be united as he is with God as you are in me and I am in you and Dan now that union is a phenomenal because he wanted us to be connected to him like he's connected with his father will think about that that charming holy war. Oh my goodness.

They also talked about believers being unified together right and when he goes on to say is when believers are unified. That is when the world will now that I was sent and said that was kind of on that Scripture kept coming to me through a commentary by J. Vernon McGee and other studies, and Don and it was just a matter of prayer and we ended up holding a prayer breakfasts and inviting key leadership and railing County all seven mayors key pastors and that we held a prayer breakfast and we had and I get speaker from Billy Graham and on Facebook on revival and then we just we ask that you be praying.

How is God to show us to have a prayer event and we thought one time prayer that and a couple weeks later we had our second meeting and Don to private banking about really quickly.

We came up with the name we came up with the logo. We ended up having a committee of about 25 people have five different committees underneath that and October 7 and last year we had our first prayer gathering on the courthouse steps and railing County and Salsberry at about 500 people cannot and it was amazing well so it all started with this really neat story about how the body of Christ comes together in different ways. Got lots more coming from railway and capital commission with all my goodness to have just loaded for bear over there and Albert got the answer. Most my life.

I was really thinking that this is the deal I have come to find out there is probably no better commission that you will ever to receive than to actually experience someone coming to Christ, you know, last weekend I was doing a boot camp and and Bill Mixon came in hosted for us but there was a guy who came to boot camp who really told his mother.

I hate I'm going to do something. I know I'm I can learn anything crazy. These people are not and he was so convicted he came to Christ, and last Sunday.

He was baptized in the lake of the bouquet you talk about a commission.

I mean all I was so wise like wow in that whole idea of baptism when you get to see it like that, that your baptized into the name of the father in the name of the son and the name of the Holy Spirit right and I think about your John 17 right that you're being into that name Albert. I'm glad you called in today. Thank you buddy your winter. God bless. So as we are called into that name right. He gives us different passions and so you know we have Bert Jones here with us in Bert. I am really interested like you're sitting there one day and God says Bert I want you to run for political office. What can you take us to that where there's an interesting story that goes with that.

But when I did first run for the state legislature.

I had been Aston Conover created. I guess you would say to run and I really felt like it. First it Lord was not calling me to that I was involved in other things.

At the time that really felt like it is just wasn't the time. But as time went on and I prayed about it and I was involved in trying to recruit someone else to run a like-minded believer that would go and serve that person didn't materialize inside.

Finally, a slight Lord, is it I and so to make a long story short the first time that I ran for the legislature. I was actually an unaffiliated voter at that particular moment in time and that had never been done in North Carolina and Syosset. Well, I know that the Lord wants me to run. I don't know if he wants me to win.

Not too many people out there thought that an unaffiliated candidate could win, but with God all things are possible so we became the first in the state to do that. As far as I'm aware, at least in modern times, say with all that said, snuggling to the reelection every two years and that yes so you have four elections after that. Did you stay on now, I didn't actually ran. I had formally been involved in the Republican Party and people knew that I was the, the conservative candidate that I would caucus with the Republicans and so sometime after the election.

I did rejoin the Republican Party. You know what I'm most excited about. I've wondered what caucus with millions all my whole life and now what is actually needed caucus with somebody to meet. Basically I mean you know in Raleigh we have we have two political parties in operation and each party meets in the size their platform and now they want to to work together. You know, politics is a team sport.

You really can't go and do anything on your own. You gotta work with other people in the legislature you you got to have a majority of the votes.

So it's a team sport so it's basically your team getting together on their times when the innovates don't always follow with party lines. There are other issues as well but but typically policies like engineer in the huddle urinal in place. Yeah right. This is what's going on when you make the sports analogy you know there's always another leader there the peak.

There are people in the forefront the people that are sometimes seen more maybe in front of the media or whatever, but as linemen are out there making the blocks and maybe the people who are a little bit more behind the scenes say that there is a sports analogy to be made, but attain. I'm so glad I list them on show I get to learn stuff so I'm sure that this is an obvious thing, but I think it's more than cool. How awesome is it that we now have a capital commission or that has been trained and what those people actually experience. In other words, it's one thing for me to pray for the Skelley's go pray Rowand is another thing for me to pray for car salesman because guess what I know exactly what that feels like.

And so I just think you how amazing is it that God trained you in a situation to where you would have insight that nobody else could possibly have well is a tremendous blessing for me and hopefully will be for the ministry. You have really had the opportunity over my ears there to make the relationships with others and to be a part of the ministry there.

One of the things we were able to accomplish shortly after we were we were elected eight years ago, we established the North Carolina legislative prayer caucus we were one of the first states in the country.

There is a serious caucusing. This is how I see what you guys are talking and thought about that.

Pray Rowand or caucusing. And as I was thinking as I was listening. You know the spiritual warfare around Raleigh around capital there and Rowand has to be phenomenal.

The temptations and all those kind of thing so you guys were in the posted when you try to set this pray Rowand thing you were the answer to that is absolutely state was not happy about the well yes, you're absolutely correct. He's not happy and he threw stuff your way that you did not expect yes you would expect that with even individual people that are coming alongside of that for sure God is greater.

He is bigger and so when you when you sense that you send something creepy that was coming against you when you began that I wonder. There was there was some stuff that was coming that was it was some pushback on go into detail because it's not even it's not important because again blends in with your grade in the second chance. I try and let us continue now being a year and 1/2 prayer when it's been going on for and we celebrated one year and actually meeting on ways where one year and three months now where consistently we have met every month in the community is coming together and we see new faces and were growing in numbers and so again it's God's God is God is prevailing and he he is greater, and so Greg your view on the letting my view, is now retired as an Army officer in 2012 and you wind up in Salisbury that's another story, but am well thank you for your service. See what kind Army officer were you. Well, you know, had a unique Army experience. I graduated from University of Florida in an enlisted when the Rangers for couple years while then officer candidate school and was really logistics branches from their but am in oh so you understand that a little level.

I do not let your Ranger. I'm saying that that's that's certainly the case so yeah I'm really interested, even more so in your take on that from your perspective. I think from God clearly gave my wife the vision and I just never coming to me and said hey here's here's what I'm seeing in the nuts and bolts guys like okay you know how do we make this happen, then you need to know what you need to make it happen. And that's if you like where I've come come alongside her to just support and make it happen. She's got the big picture and get in there and what can we do to make it happen sometimes really creepy story that I didn't really know asking Tom here, but I guess I will because it seems to make some accent that told you about the baptism last week so there's a guy that leads Masten generated by the name Sam main and we're supposed to have the boot camp starting Thursday on Monday he tears bolts of his hamstrings where he can't even sit down and he's at the beach the time. So not only can you not stand. I may not know sit down. He can't drive back because he literally can't sit because he torn both his hamstrings.

Then when the other leaders during Turners of the group. He gets gout on Tuesday and he can barely walk. In fact, he comes to boot camp, on Walker so Wednesday, not Tuesday night. I'm excited about the boot camp and excited about going to battle for God what's going to happen with this group of men coming and I have this horribly creepy dream horribly creepy dream where I'm sitting at this party with a bunch people I really want to be around so I go find a little corner to sit by myself and I'm reading or I'm doing something and is really too strange looking man that look like muscle come up in the dream and the one of them bends over to me and he says I'm going to sleep with now. I've never dealt with that kind of thing in my whole life and I've never had anything like like what in the world is going on. What in the world is going on, and so I freak out in the dream I start to run.

But when I run my leg cramps and crap so badly that it wakes me. And when we come back I'll tell you what Jesus showed me about that and then as things have unfolded over the last week. I think your minds can be blown at what the spiritual warfare that was around that camp that I had no idea it was state what was going on but how God led me right straight in the middle of the battlefield here that when we come back for more.

They were so blessed to have with us Tonya and Greg Skelley with Ray Rowand as well as with capital commission North Carolina got so much to share with you from them. But as we left her here Robbie in the middle of his prayer. Grandpa and stinger.

What in the world and friend of mine, a good friend of mine taught me something about spiritual warfare that when you know you're under attack and it becomes clear to you, which obviously is I woke up with my leg cramp them how to walk around the bed at 2 o'clock the morning and with both my friends out with leg problems. I even Robbie can put together that this might be an attack and he said you can literally ask your spirits and they know that may sound fruitcakes to you but it's okay.

Just give Robbie credit to say that I believe this and once you have that spirits name.

It's easier to come up against it and and so understanding that I was under attack. I asked that spirits name and we dealt with that spirit actually sent him to his judgment, etc. so that was not the hard part. Then I I I said Jesus what in the world you know what is this attack. What's this about any said come with me and he took me and it was the creepiest thing I am telling you that the skin on my was crawling. I had goosebumps all the stuff is, Jesus took me down and there were two walls that were restraining all these horrible demons, unbelievably horrible demons and they were uttering things that were unbelievable, and all the stuff was going on, as were walking through there, and Jesus knew I was freaked out and he was like Robbie on with you your good like he could tell I was freaked out is that I want you to see number one what you're up against. And these are the spirits that were there at Sodom because they were coming after the rescuers those angels that wanted to rescue lot. These are those guys and they get really mad when something shows up to rescue in certain situations like this and I want you to see what you're up against, but also want you to know that I'm with you, and you can be okay so we go on. We do the boot camp and it was we saw all kinds of breakthrough and all the stuff wonderful. But I share this dream was several people that were going on and then one of them says Robbie, as we share the camp with another group that is actually called the ultimate escape and what it turned out, was going out the camp while we were there was this ultimate escape group will that the leader's name is Steve Holliday with the church. Christ had been molested at that camp when he was 16 years old and he was coming to that For the first time since his molestation to come up against those spirits and to lead a group that was larger than our own group in what healing and deliverance comes from that kind most while I'm still sitting here just like oh my goodness. And so, in my view, Jesus knew I had no idea about. I mean I really I didn't have any idea why was at the Jesus knew that here we were coming into the midst of this warfare and he wanted me to do what you guys were doing get prayed up and get prepared for battle and so it's fascinating to me. It really is that my friend Greg here was in the military and one of the things he said during a break here is that Satan is all about divide and conquer.

When you think about the political process.

I can't think of a more divide and conquer unit division.

So how wonderful is it that he's called you a warrior and your wife into this battle for union for his people in the state of North Carolina and then we got Bert over here and they have to be on the same show. I mean, you know you don't think God was in the middle of all this really right in the middle of and so share the stories you shared a good break on how God kind of drop some of this in your lab sure will like us and we retired from the Army in 2012 and God led me to Junior ROTC to teach that in high school and I guess I was at the school for about a year and just think what can I do in the school. The be more kingdom minded and I was walking on the hallway and I saw a sign that somebody put on the intersection of this hallway and it was for youth commission international club meeting and gave the time and the date and the and the room number of the teacher sponsor who was in charge of it and I haven't been on my planning. Tried to said the Holy Spirit said you need to go so I went in there is a market is so dispersing the teachers room and think about coming middle class.

I won't be able to talk to him anyway as we speak it and see who it is in the name I get to the room and sure enough she's on her planning. To end so it gave me an opportunity sit down and find out. So what is why CRU commission on international about them going on with it then that a pretty good conversation and she said oh by the way I'm retiring this year so if you would like to do this and take over. It's yours. So there you go gorgeous if directed the Bible club for me in high school right and there you are in the midst of that where I'm sure that Satan would like to divide and conquer and so he gave you guys a vision of a mission statement and so would love to hear what that is. And if you want to read that Absolutely this is for progress mission statement. Parent believes that revival in the church, God's people in a spiritual awakening waking in the whole culture is essential in that it is our only hope. We are a solemn assembly that gathers people from all ages, denominations, political affiliations and cultural backgrounds in prayer we are Christians coming together to call upon Jesus praying for racial reconciliation strong godly marriages are elected officials.

First responders are students and teachers and for revival. We pray against violence, drugs, and racism in our community. In John 17 2123 Jesus prayed to God that believers would be one and complete unity because that is when the word will know that's when the world will know that Jesus was sent. Therefore, we rely on the promise of second Chronicles 714, and pray for a grassroots movement of deep humility that is expressed in repentance and turning to holiness by God's people, while and so similarly right Bert, did you kinda share about capital commission, what their mission.

It's absolutely been at the bottom line is that were serving Christ in the capital community and Nina first Timothy two commands us to pray for our our leaders at all levels of government. And certainly, as believers, we want godly leaders. We want people who do know Christ to have a biblical worldview who will govern in that way. We just have a tremendous opportunity to reach the leaders of our state with the word of God in their faith comes by hearing hearing by the word of God. We are there sharing weekly Bible studies, we are providing chaplain ministry one-on-one ministry walking side-by-side and hand-in-hand with people they are building those relationships were there for the me know legislators really are people too weak. We tend to demonize, dehumanize politicians that you know people who serve in government have the same their reflection of our society and they have the same needs and problems in and everything else that that everybody else does, and to have a Christian chaplain.

They are to be able to provide services for the M to build those relationships to teach the word of God to have chapel services. It's invaluable. So we have an opportunity to reach the leaders of our state and those who are influencing the M to help them do it to him to come to Christ are to grow in their faith. Those who are believers is a tremendous encouragement to the Christians who served there to get to be a part of a ministry like that and build relationships with other believers and to see them grow in their faith. And that's that's what we exist for we are. We're just serving Christ in that community by by serving our leaders in the staffers and those that help them and the bottom line. Can you in this season based on the election. We just had, and some of the things that you see our government, especially state of North Carolina's government facing right this minute from your inside position, what would you share with our listeners. This is a great prayer need right now. I think just the ability for our leaders to truly tend to glorify God and what we do to recognize that you know it's not about D's and ours is not about politics if you will mean we are we are one nation under God and the word of God says blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord if if we are going to succeed as a nation were not going to do it without the Lord were not going to do it without the Lord's blessings and I think that we just need to be in prayer that we get beyond the games of politics and and so forth and pray for our leaders that they will truly see that they are there bigger than something than themselves that what were really therefore is you know it's a ministry coming if you're an elected official. The word of God says that your your minister of God, God ordained human government. I think that something the Christians need to get a handle on when I you know it can be very discouraging at times with you here. Christians say will we don't have anything to do with the government, you know, it's just a bunch of crooked politicians this and that we need to remember that God ordained human government and God ordained that elected officials are to be ministers of God and if we can help convey that view those who are serving and and help them to be able to govern with the idea that you know is not just about my team winning is not just about you know winning an election or this or that you know where they are for a reason and and hopefully that reason is to to bring glory to God in what we do and so you have the capital commission is there to build up our leaders to build them up in their faith to help them to grow that they might have a more biblical worldview and be able to make decisions not based on politics, but based on the word of God. Well, we have an interesting story coming from Lebanon, on the other side of kinda what both these just as I was thinking about have been involved in an while we got some working pursuits come up with Tonya and Greg Skelley Jones of capital commission more insight on the results of the selection that mission.

He was a pastor in Lebanon and he described me something I've never forgotten that when Lebanon was being invaded by Syria at the time and all the they were coming in and there were radicals all over the place killing people right left and also all the stuff is happening and refugees were coming from all over the place. Based on the violence that was involved in Lebanon at the time. He said all the sudden it did not matter if you were Presbyterian or a Catholic or what affiliation you had as far as your Christian religion.

If you are a believer that became very obvious very clearly and the Presbyterians got together with the Catholic too great to create housing for the refugees come together and he said you've never seen the church come together like it did in the midst of this war and the truth is we are at war. I'm just saying whether you realize it or not, I can assure you that there's many many times that you can see in Scripture that you know don't be surprised that your know that the devils run around trying to devour by the he's trying to devour every single brother with a Democrat or Republican, whether not you know their independent or or if there Presbyterian or their Baptist okay that's just an and so when you do all that comes together. It didn't matter to you and that you are in the Army.

If you were getting shot at another Marine showed up or somebody in the Navy didn't know there are on the same team and you're exactly right. I think we we live in a situation where I think I read somewhere that there'd been more Christian martyrs created in the last hundred years, and there have been history so it's going on.

It's just I think were both so blessed and American. Sometimes we lose sight on the reservoir. It's a spiritual war, and Christians are being persecuted and and dying literally every day, and that should draw us together, not on the pray for them, but to draw us together and come together as a community and do what we need to do to safer our country right which again gets back to the concept of God's like you know he shows up for me. I have no idea what's going on at this camp I got no idea about this and that showed up for you and his sin engaged here. You don't understand the time why you need to engage their unit. You just know that he told you engage your goal run for office, even though you know later on. This is you know all that was going on but now you find you know all inmates is making sense to me now and and and it's coming into focus.

And so as you start those Bible studies. I'm really curious, how do you go invite people well. Fortunately, the capital commission is been operating there at the general assembly for the past several years now, so there is an ongoing ministry. Even now that the general assembly as is out of session but you know when we return for the 2019 session you're going to have several folks returning who have been a part of capital commission and are familiar with it and will be able to spread the news to the new ones coming in. Of course myself but the other legislators as well just inviting them to come into and to be a part so it's it's a group effort, but it's a continuing ministry and we're just very blessed to be welcome to survey addresses the continuing prayer request. We know we operate wheat we don't work for the government on Granada were not supported by tax dollars, or anything like that but we operate at at capitals Raleigh and other state capitals as well by the pleasure of the legislative leader suite we have to be welcome to serve there. So just a continuing prayer request that we remain welcome to serve and fortunately we have a lot of legislators that want us there and are actively participating in the ministry and we just see that you are obviously vendor these Bible studies that I'm guessing that I just ask. Are they all Republicans know is sitting there not, you know, I didn't think they were destroyed after know and then again you know we as I see it, we are we are nonpartisan ministry.

We don't get in there and were not there took to lobby issues were not there to lobby politics were where we are about spreading the gospel were about spreading the word of God.

And so it's it's open to everyone, whether it's a Bible study or prayer breakfast or check a chapel service or whatever, where, and in one of the good ministries as well as just going around to all of those offices. Wheat we not only have the Bible study in a room where people are meeting but that Bible studies actually going out in the form of an email and is also going out and form a paper copy this going on every legislators desk into every legislative assistant just to go around those offices and build those relationships with everyone and you know even the ones that don't get to physically come maybe to the Bible study they can read the Bible study and I know a lot of them do so now the word of God is is going out and is not going to return void is he is going to work in the hearts of those that you know we just put it out there. The Lord provides the increase. The Lord does the work so we just were just humbled that the Lord chooses to use the likes of us to help while a man and Tanya you had a situation where you were reproached by certain party and all of a sudden you got a warning want sure that I would look well it wasn't. It wasn't a warning from a party but but it is a warning I have is be careful that you don't identify yourself more, but being Republican or Democrat did not identify yourself more with being black or white. Do not identify yourself more with being Baptist or Lutheran or whatever it is, then the gospel you must identify with the gospel. First and foremost stand on the gospel because anything else that you potentially say continues to divide and conquer and and there is an amazing, I've shared this at at private land. There is an amazing song called to find me and basically it says on unit that he doesn't use the pitchfork, he doesn't have a town he comes disguised as fears and lies to remind you when you failed he doesn't wear red suit he doesn't smell like smoke.

He sneaks around. I find your doubt and that's where he makes it sound but when he comes for you. All you gotta do is look at the devil square right in the eye and tell them that I believed you for the very last time devil I know you been lying to me. You don't define me as all your power has been specked away. Your threats are as empty as Jesus's grave so devil get behind me you don't define me. He knows the ways were different when we're tempted to choose a side takes the beauty in our diversity and use it to divide the split is never doctor and by the color of our skin and when we fight with fear and hate. He's the only one who rents that we have a lot of listeners know I need to know where that is. Check that.

I believe it came out a year ago to Christian song and Johnny Diaz wrote that song and I heard it on the radio and I have a car where I can replay I could possibly play and Dan, I just listen to for probably half an hour over and over and over, and when I love songs like this get into your soul and you can see that you know that one hit its mark and you and and certainly to your calling, and that you find it fascinating that know God is there. Once he begins to get to get you walking in what he designed you to do to start or reinforce your heart with things that other people to share the vision like this available he wants is available where available.

He can then use is how he sees that and he will put the right people on it in your life, and he has done that. I have friends today. Greg and I do you pray by land that are our brothers and sisters that we did not know a year and half ago and they probably don't go to church. They don't go to my church.

They don't look like us. Our cultural backgrounds are different and that but I can imagine dealing life going forward without them and on. What a blessing it is and so you know and that is what primarily and is at the community of believers coming together testing that you know God is hearing our prayers. He can answer our prayers. But we also know that he's it's not in a vacuum. What he is doing is far greater than we could even ask or imagine. I have to say. One other thing because run out of time. If you look at the stage of the messenger has been the warrior phases for young men that are a team to go in there and going to battle. But as you get older you get to be a king and you get some influence which obviously when we look at Bert's. He was a legislator which gave him tremendous amounts of voice and was going on but I want to think what God's them out the he's gone into the sage stage.

Now he's teaching other legislators write what he learned and and his influence even though he is no longer legislator. My guess is God's can use them for even greater things so as we pray this day, I would urge you to not only pray for certainly pray Rowand and certainly pray for capital commission but pray for these people who stepped into the story and are taking their role in that God is using of influence and and and passion, and in doing this kind of thing so we are most excited that you took your hours soliciting pursuits.
