This is the Truth Network kingdom pursuits here from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into the kingdom pursuits now live from the truth. Your host Robbie Gilmore good morning.

Welcome the kingdom pursuits. Very excited that you're joining us today. We are loaded for bear with me.

We've got Sgt. Mike McGraw he's a 30 year police veteran and he is the author of called a higher duty hire call to duty. I should say welcome Sgt. Riley, it's great to have Jan I met Sgt. McGraw at the NRB and he's written this fabulous book that working get to in a minute but his story although sounds tragic in so many different ways. Mike you know God used it for such a time as this. Maybe you have the blood that might work.

Now I would the copper 31 years and during that time I spend about half my career working on major crimes, homicide, robbery, the worst of the worst and the first responder night I realized quickly that during a profession that deals with other peoples,, that your own out in the streets or cases that we work on the debt that you big way and about 20 years of my career that I did not know the Lord.

I grew up at a pretty good life as a kid and went to college and then got on the police department, but quickly realized that that the job began to take its toll on me in ways that I would never really expect Sgt. I were to get into that believing the whole story, but you can imagine kinda what some first responders are going through right this minute, but we have also witnessed today Michael Austin and Michael is with Christian history magazine and their publication that they are just now releasing is so timely as well. It's it's called how Christians founded healthcare and hospitals. Welcome, Michael always had Michael on several times and I really think that I don't know that I've ever seen a you know your magazine for this particular time seems more timely than I've ever seen and I mean it's amazing how much hope.

It brings me to see what Christians have done with plagues over the years to correct something because I work in smart to actually Just released this issue 101, 101, and it will knock out seven years ago. However, it was the editor's comment that really got my attention because he was aware of the danger of pandemics at that time the court is not something new, something that is happened before but the all of the issues of Christian history magazine are timely and that's what I love about it is, by the way, if you know this is not complicated for anybody wants to kingdom pursuits.com you know that the link to that particular article that magazine with all those articles is right that you just click on it and you get that particular issue that Michael talking about, as well as Sgt. McGraw's book if you listen you want to hear the whole story when it and I hope you do want to get the whole book.

Of course we wanted giveaway one of those books, but you know after all that speaking of healthcare. You know what I'm saying.

So speaking of healthcare.

Get ready to play the music so that I can play thinking of healthcare. I changed it all think this is I went to the doctor you now because people kept telling me I was real card.

Can you imagine that methane urinate. So naturally I picked a cardiologist you know that would be the kind that you would take right Michael and the reception told the receptionist.

She told me to have a seat and the doctor would deal with me in a minute you know it really wasn't accepting new patients.

But it would give me a shot and I'm saying this tactic that they they put me on the cardboard and playing any games at this picture cardiologist. As you might guess they took every form of credit card that was coming at the end of all the shenanigans you knew I would actually have could call anyone today. You can win Mike's book, the higher call to duty so here is the actual little in the book of acts in the book of acts will was the doctor of law, the doctrine of the law who neither wore scrubs nor lawsuits even where you are in the book of acts that's in the Bible was the doctor at the law who were neither scrubs nor lawsuits. You can guess that middle Johnny don't want there with my goodness around to see what everybody could win this is exciting for your very own higher call to the unimaginable true life story of Sgt. Mike grew as told to Sarah Bush that could be you. All you have to do is call 866-348-7884 866-34-TRUTH if you dig the gifted and tell us in the book of acts.

Who was the doctor of the law were neither scrubs nor lawsuits. As you might get set up at the end of the shenanigans we would get back to Sgt. you are you are sharing your story and out before we get further into that. I'm really curious. I'm sure you still have a lot of connections of the police force a lot of trauma going on right now in that area. Can you kinda give us on the ground feel of what's going on. Yeah right now multiple part of the program started word emotional support for first responders so you know that the time where the folks who avoid a difficult job, or got the risk to themselves and then also well I've been a first responder difficult to go out and have yourself in harm's way, but you know that you could be exposing yourself to something that can actually affect your family as well. That that that's another thing. And then also just the fear and anxiety that in the community you not color to try to bring key and I just calm people down.

I United just made the job that much more difficult than a lot of different ways also help in the emergency room doctors, nurses and staff training on our area and in this is something that they've always been on the frontline date. I have been recognizes that we recognize you, brothers and sisters in the first responder, long time ago on because the thing that states the right now they are they are really on online traumatic situation a lot of airline. I were offering that the court did this keep them in the pipe and Michael what's really amazing was that back in the way I understand it, you know, they would just throw people out in the street to sit, lay, find out how the church came to the rescue.

Back then opportunities for us to come to rescue right and you to figure out what Dr. was a doctor of the law when you when we come back on kingdom pursuits so much more, stay tuned. I think you will find a lot of my back and uses it to build the kingdom were so blessed to have with they Sgt. Mike McGraw 30 or please veteran and author of a higher call to duty as well as Michael Austin with Christian history magazine and their issue that those number 101 that came out a few years ago would just unbelievably timely about what were going talk about today is how Christians founded healthcare and hospitals and we left our hero Michael. We'll talk about that in a in an interesting kind of way. It was that pandemic of Rome at the time that really helped launch the church going on around 200 years after Christ, our Savior locked on her and now what would happen much granular much you violation Roman society was people were actually drawn to and ending Christian Fellowship Hollywood College church at that time, but a lot of home churches a lot of Christian society or constant. Christians are still persecuted it illegal to be a Christian. But people are flocking to our Christian fellowship. Why because they're actually getting deal out there and there being Sir there being jointly others and and experiencing the Holy Spirit kind of think and of course the Roman were not happy about that and so that one other young contributed to the persecution of Christians. But isn't that what we're seeing today well that Christians are persecuted and wishing that more and more today in our and this is a good example of a situation that comes up with a Christian don't run away from danger. They run through it. I just want to commend our brother this morning for what you and what he's gone true and wonderful people at our hospital and clinics and also an art critic thinks offices they are serving the community. They are the ones that are frontline and I got bless them and protect them constantly in and Sgt. that's that's kind of what you lived that trauma is not running from danger, but running to it it it took a toll. When you getting back your story little bit that these people are taking a huge toll right now yeah and there are good at what they do their get it going into the fight. That's when they are not in the fight that this a lot of their most constructive people so know when you're out there responding numbered situation dealing with things. First, handed it United league.just give you that wisdom, that situation but it's time when we are not doing now, go home, where we try to process doing know for me it is really important. To stay in prayer. No, for a lot of years. I didn't know the Lord didn't have a place to put my burdens down that once I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and then had a place where I could take all those pressures take all the stress and just lay it down at the foot of the class I met Pete to get back into the fight. The next day I met that was a hard road, and maybe you can go ahead and start to share how that actually happens that I in a job that dealt with worsening anybody could ever see, and I know that I… I'm date because I didn't want my neighbors to empty without being that it started to create an isolation for me and it voted to affect my family life. I lost two marriages and then write about the same time. My youngest son got diagnosed with his 12 year Goldman got diagnosed with bone cancer and so that really put my world upside down. You know I was going to get it was supposed to fix everybody's deal with Erica Gales but now I had something on my amp that I had no control on and I just didn't know what to do at that place people talk to me about the Lord and talking about the comfort now that I'm but I still was becoming angry about everything that was happening but it was later on in in that journey that I did come the Lord. I met my current wife and she took me our very first date was to respond in concert and it was there that the pastor that spoke this really message and that message was so clear that what I was doing wasn't working and that there was peace that there was hope and so I just wanted to have that once I gave my heart to God and things change for me. I and knows a couple years later that my son did die, he was but that the cancer occurred six years and one is 18 years old doubtfully and that was a big hit, but I can go back and I can let me see how God there and every need, took care of every single detail and he was so gentle with me all you most painful thing that at all ever experienced, but he began to use that and when I came back to work. I told God that I want to go to another dead child: I want to go tell family member that the La Follette that's all I did was all a call today that I was getting at work: on Sgt. so I had to respond to situations. But I now knew that I was standing on the doorstep of those people's homes and their biggest tragedy and that they could look into my heart that I knew their pain, but it also look at being black. How are you making it through away and give me this opportunity is the point.as I got you that entire situation. Forget any any still is to this day our military know why I have comfort.

I know that my time with the Lord.

I know that this is an overall but I also know that wall were here know God will use our tragedies and and will use them in a big way to help other people so and I and Michael as I think back to Rome in 200. The Romans had no compassion actually literally didn't take care of their own family members.

They put them on the street to.testimony and not thank you so much for sharing that you mention Robbie and 251. Plague began in the Roman Empire that lasted 15 years. Can you imagine being in the situation we are in now lasting 15 year not only were the Roman caliph course pagan did not know the Lord ruthless, but they had very little means to correct to help you to assist in feeling most of it has to do with the what they were learning in warfare life lifespan was very short.

We can't, I don't think we can imagine the worldview and lifestyle. I had that time they were very promiscuous. They were the antithesis of the argument you mentioned earlier, you know, when I got up this morning I put on my lawsuit and I I do every morning because we we are in a battle and we were given we have this legacy. This incredible awareness of living in the Old Testament the bill with teaching, but sadly most of it. Ignore we have so much in a credible science and technology that we think where we are immune and do whatever we want, but I think that we have another occasion to go back to our heavenly father reminds people time and time again in the Old Testament, and it continues in the New Testament as well. After all, our Savior gave us the element Winograd to do what to remember him and who is speaking is the word, and so our father wants us to remember his word and the people on this list consciousness of living a clean white modest caulking chase.

And lo and behold, here we are in 2000, 2000, yeah it is. It's also break time so we had to go to that so you know, I know you're out there and you know this doctor that wore neither scrubs or lawsuits in the vaccine me because 866-34-TRUTH 87884 Jim Lieberman's panel get so much more. Sgt. Mike and Christian history magazine, welcome back to King number six where we hear how God takes your passion and uses it to build the kingdom today were so blessed to have with us Michael Austin with Christian history magazine with their issue. How Christians founded here and hospital as well as Sgt. Mike McGraw 30 year police veteran and author of a higher call to duty, but we have this riddle that has not been riddled about in the book of acts assumes the doctor of the law, neither war scrubs or lawsuits, and we have Donna is in the Yadkin County still allowed to be around and since you're in Yadkin County. Donna, you can still be out of the house till Monday. I understand this a lot going on. So Donna, do you know who this character was, it didn't wear any lawsuits will well you know that is a great answer, then answer is, he certainly was a doctor, the law and he certainly didn't wear scrubs or a lawsuit so you know, you're absolutely right. Not exactly who the book of acts mentioned was a doctor, the law, but no doubt he wants.

He was all that stuff. In fact, that's okay. That's okay, studied around the guy that that I was thinking about but there's no doubt you're still right absolutely and so were going to send out the Sgt. spoke to you and I'm so grateful for you and would you have any word for our guests that that may be rethinking a question you might have know that Brandon might help and we believe individually that and think on special light and start them anyway. I think that time when hospital setting doing work. I appreciate Emily agree. Thank you Donna God bless you personage comment. I think you all know that was the only copy I had of a higher call to duty. However, I have a whole prize all the books, if you think you know the other answer you want, because of 866348788486634 truthful getting back to Sgt. McGraw, Sgt. You know that your story didn't because I happen to know because I've talked to the NRB at length.

You know stuff just kept coming. In other words, a lot of people think was a come to Christ you know everything to be good but if it appears that for all that you know there's other work that he's got a doing these various trials, it continued to come your way. You build this up by Dan Nye.

I noted that you think looking my way still with another.

My older son became involved in her drug addiction. You struggled with for lots of years and know that with another place I likened it to the cancer battle with my younger son is again it was something that I have no control over is also know what the Lord was teaching me was to trust to trust him in a way that I it was very hard to do, where I had to trust him with my son instead of me being one addiction problems either trust the Lord and deal with the situation and that the Lord love my son and I know he does even more than I do. Although I loved him a lot. So I think Happen and I got it with cancer as well about four years ago and I was cancer free and all this recently, and it came back so stage IV cancer but that I have I have keep, and I think as got the he uses this know we can have peace in the midst of things that we never ever expected that we get out because I have the strength and so it's something that's been motivating for me because I realize that I have read every moment special on the things that he has been doing right now I'm the different programs and ministries that I'm working with noted, there's no time to waste and and and everything really really really as an importance to it. So now God is that clarity as we go through trials, and I think it endemic to the world you bargain and you think differently as well. They're going and they're going to realize how fragile life can also yeah but it's also a place where people live your opening up spiritually because I'm having conversations with people and first responders that that never looked at before you get something like this happens in all of the nurse started to wonder. Okay well what's happening why you have that that you can walk with notice that compounds right now. When other people can't. So Michael is talking about how people are drawn to the Christian to Christians right now because of the pandemic and in the right. We are that light and and nine are loving know we love everybody will want to be there for everybody that we know that were serving a good God, and that's what that's what really helps me to a cancer survivor myself and I will in time David Jeremiah when he was going through bone marrow transplant and that, stuff that he got up an email from a listener that talked about how much more powerful. His messages were after he got cancer but the message and infrequent court should so you know what the listener was hearing was before he got cancer, but what he was seeing and I think it's very very clear that I really hadn't seen before.

That is when something like that is going on in your life, your message becomes more powerful, and that that that's you know that's a big part of of of what's going on so good news is we have asked is in Burlington and she too wants to take a run at this Dr. who was not wearing scrubs or lawsuits.

So we got Angela is in Burlington. Good morning Angela Leal. I'm not sure me that he you're exactly right Angela, and so is as you been listening to this morning show how much you is there something that strikes you about what's going on like word of encouragement. Everybody got paperclip grandma to promote together in the one keep you weary and it will want put it. I have recently had to lie within a few days of each other. I would. It was a very can't complicate God getting ready God had to reason God has a client that was written on February 15 and just recently became your third place to go with that God has a reason God has a plan God has it all, I thought, exactly, will God bless you and I important link.

People are dying and are people who are very very worrying good. I mean, maybe like maybe this will bring people to God and come out of the bless thank you for calling and we got so much more kingdom receipts coming up.

We still have more from Michael Austin Christian history magazine that we can learn a lot and again Sgt. McGraw higher call to duty well there so welcome back to kingdom versus where we hear how God takes your passion and uses it to build the kingdom. Today we have poster child. Children of that we have Michael Austin with Christian history magazine and their issue how Christians founded healthcare in hospitals as well as Sgt. Mike McGraw 30 year police veteran and author of a higher call to duty.

Of course you know to kingdom receipts.com and get that episode and I mean that issue absolutely free on Christian history magazine, or you can order Mike's book and is all new authors are just absolutely wonderful if you would in a bind and then give them a review on Amazon. The mean that's awesome when they can be encouraged by having you walked in.

When I got that call got called him, so Michael you know when with the segments kinda short but I wanted you to get in a few words about that article that we had been able to get to yes the moment you want me to repeat the question I was saying you want to give us a few words and what we didn't get to in that article today about what I'd like to do it little fighter, a quick story about about the issue about the founder of the camcorder liftgate producer of the cross in a switchblade document.

Filmmaker realized that Christians don't know much about their history and so he started mag that that was back in 82 I had cancer that took his life but he was the reason that he made this the first issue of the magazine distributed by Christianity today and they took a U-turn back and not the property of the of the maximum point back to the original founder, Christian history Institute and the first issue that can put out with issue one alarm on healthcare in hospital because he was in a battle with cancer.

He also produced a series of DVD reflection. It's called reflection. With Ken Curtis and it fell being interviewed and began talking to the viewers of the first one focuses on the 23rd Psalm the stucco and on the Lord what prayer and the third beatitude because both the 23rd Psalm the Lord's prayer were such a big part of my testimony in my how how the Lord found me. I made it my business to watch that that the court holds. What a blessing you wonderful blessing like people who answer but also any other kind of malady or help if you and so I just want to say for sure now in my time and we don't have but a couple minutes left in Michael I wanted to Sgt. Mike.

I wanted to give you a chance to get in anything that you wanted to tell our listeners about your book that you just can hardly wait till they read like Manning have a way to read this chapter this email so excited. God gave me this is a supplement like that. Along those lines in your book. Well, it would carefully put together so hard to write a story on your life until you sit down and ask okay what is the date one share and go there but a lot of things in there that I think will resonate with not just first responders that with anybody and it deals with no struggles in family struggles and health struggles with grief struggles with, and nine intermixed with that is also not simply stories as well as both interesting and a lot of fun to different levels, but the main the main focus on on why did that was to help other people get treated tragedies to get through traumas. The Klein Oak.

I am in Christ to to know that know everything that you go through guys can use for good and is going to use it on for a lot of people as well. Son is grateful to have that platform to share my life I regret is testimony are: and I just had the opportunity to do since I'm just grateful that that my story can help others and were so grateful for your transparency and you know just call and is actually is.

Sometimes the stories just don't look so pretty but God, you know that's the ones he really in a kind of that's best for Kirk.

I mean he did with me. I have pretty much amassed without him and so you know it's, like liquid liquid.

He did so mean absolutely beautiful. I am the know Michael Austin who is another one right Michael like it. How do they make anything out at the marital show because you know the press are all occupied with other not that of educating the public and I am upset with them about how they're not really teaching people how to deal with this particular virus, but not my brother you're dealing with all you guys are awesome. Thank you Sgt. for all your work and will be in prayer for you with your battle and stage IV is Michael this issue of Christian history magazine I think is so critical that we understand how God can use these things. Thank you both announced a change in symmetry, natch encouraging prayer. Pastor James can actually pray the 91st Psalm awesome and then masculine journey starts here now, another tribute to Vinnie Menino oh, this is the Truth Network
