9/11: That Beautiful, Broken Day

9/11 a beautiful broken day 17. American authors share their memories of a beautiful broken days to welcome Alan Grant Elder and Mary Elvira let Meriwether and doesn't burn so many different characters that Alan plays but Alan this project is is near and dear to your heart and so many. When can you come to share with our listeners what it's about.

Well, about a year ago.

Writers group we call we got a ride about 25 authors and we meet weekly to share our work and sell one of our members are young in her early 20s, Emily Dykstra said you will be the 9/11 we put together our thoughts and our impression and in commemoration of that day and we never done a project together before involving independent and but we were all so one of us has written at least 17 of us decided to wrote something about our thoughts on including family was only two years old at the time, but she has a fascinating article about that she wrote from the perspective of a young adult and pretty much what and I wear a Christian group and many of the articles of book are Christian oriented as well as we have: Anda. Another thing via the title comes from an exquisite on in the middle of it by Kate Trusler and the last line in her: is that beautiful broken day and it just seemed to be perfect for the title Samantha. It's great to hear you John before have a minute seems for both my book.

I thought we had.

So a beautiful broken day and ones that look like from your perspective. Well, from my perspective, that beautiful broken day started off as the most perfect weather wise. It was one of those days that make everybody feel good that tragedy broke that beautiful broken day by 9 o'clock it was broken. It was shattered and affected thousands and thousands and thousands of lives and with our efforts.

The first one of the first things we said after we decided to embark upon this adventure was that we wanted to donate the proceeds of this book to a charity and we were very excited about that and started talking about what charity we wanted to benefit from our work. We came up with the local military missions in action in Fuquay Marina had their fundraising efforts absolutely shattered in during the year of COBIT and they were severely hampered by that and they are a nonprofit organization which dedicates themselves to assisting disabled that an active duty military and their families.

Everything from building handicap ramps to two completely renovating homes to make them accessible and we figured they could use our money from this project more than some of the big organizations like tunnels to towers that have lots of corporate sponsors, so we wanted to keep the money close to home and we're hoping that we do make enough money to make our efforts very worthwhile for each of these that families that are helped students, and so also on which will have shortly been indisposed with this but as Alex McFarlane and there. Are you ready event. It's going to be going on Grace Baptist Church, which includes, by the way, free hot dog dinner on June 18 but the ideas are you ready for the second biggest event in world history like wow and I'm guessing they mean Jesus is coming back down that's that's the deal. So you can imagine that with.

Are you ready being one of the things in Elinor you and Nancy both know this is common. So here we go. Speaking of ready we have to get to our pond so I have a new producer with me today tries out on him. I thought that crazy traffic controller let that play right into that building and then the second one did it. I went, I was so never ever forget I just I couldn't comprehend one in the world were they doing that day. Oh well.

And I couldn't get in touch with very start that way and so maybe you got a story on 9/11. But having a great night of the Holy Spirit is not about the method of time for people every body to come together lift up Christ and bring people under the sound of the gospel. So I'm just about everybody will will common and bring people to your about the Lord.

And as I think about it is kind of cool that you're on together with Ellen and Nancy were the talk about 9/11 that beautiful broken day because like coded 9/11 had a similar effect were kind of scared to.

In fact, all you really really scare people, and in one of things I'll always remember Ellen and Nancy about 9/11 and I had a chance shortly thereafter to interview a man came to Christ at 911. You know your talk about receiving the gospel to the way he received the gospel on 9/11 Alex. I love the story been there when this interview was gone because it was back in the days were to talk live. We did all that stuff and this man said everybody walking up out of the dust of 9/11. You can picture the scene for if you remember how everybody was coming out of the dust and everybody coming out of the dust was was mumbling. How could God let this happen. How could God let this happen in the Holy Spirit hit the sky between the eyes that had never right. This was the day he received Christ. He immediately knew if it weren't for God every day would be 9/11 well if there is anything want for God every day would be covert city like you all my goodness. And so you know it's interesting to me, Alex Allen, how God allows these things to some extent to really get our attention on how good he really is and were spared meant saying thank God.

God spared me. We have a good marriage hidden there from one of our members who is up retired policeman and what he kept looking at where all the people were helping each other, and especially the first responders and he said it. It lifted his heart and those of his other fellow policeman to see that people were stepping up and helping and loving each other at any time to heal each other as best they could under really tough. I found that very inspiring story part of what touched us to much about the book, and I'm really excited to hear about Alex's going to be wonderful book for 911 Lori 911 call from the Billy Graham. Interesting. I been on the Billy Graham radio show about prior to 9/11 and you know was doing the thing about apologetic the morning of 9/11. I get all the Billy Graham ministry and look work going to Ground Zero to do ministry would you go with us though 1/2 and out a few hours later, but York and we got there in the wee hours morning so the next morning, we can do ministry all around. Well the first day stock market reopened, which was about four days after 9/11 of the stock exchange reopened and I was down there on a talk well outside of the stock change others.

All the people gathered to go across the crosswalk and so I'm giving out booklets from the Billy Graham ministry and we had FEMA credentials.

Now the stuff that was really a great ministry, but a man looked at me and said is the world we near the end of the world and I had a crowd of people coming out of the stock market and I started rubbing my street preacher hat that is the world going to in Christ will return before… Like before the streetlight goes green in night. How to be ready when Christ does return over the world have been on how to be ready. Crosswalk change and nobody my thought wow Bible 2 PM and I share the gospel. I got bold and cried.

If you want to be ready look. Had you been hours when the bill you could be ready. If you have Jesus. And if you're going to pray that Christ raised her hand will common 100% of the hands were raised and everyone that came out of the stock exchange and I have bought 500 little booklets the Billy Graham peace with God. We get everything one away. I finally I finally reach the last group about 8 PM. Really. While we had so many groups come across this crosswalk. And honestly, like 99.9% of every man and woman that came out of stock exchange building great. The sinners prayer.

We actually a couple of street vendors like babbled up alongside of me and I'm up there preaching the crosswalk in the sky, looked at me like I said yes Mr. hot dog vendor which we shared the fact that that was a crosswalk Alex. I think the this should be up all summer anyway. Wow, what a story well I break got so much more diverse. It's coming up again.

Get out there but anyway he did three years. It took him before he was ready. I think that God worked in the good and I don't say that 9/11 and Commandant in Arizona at the time about a call that may happen but just at 3 AM the night before I had just finished writing a brochure about how God's people had to get to gather those that are filmmakers and start down well that very day significant time for me that I love you guys. Then yeah well I got ill and I'm here with you and if you want to talk to her last yeah and can cast mates your classmates, and cast mates so you are in the same college and the same Christian God blessing and I'm so glad you called in today and I'm glad you won getting back to Alex.

I'm sorry. I tried to put John and then all of a sudden we heard a lot of feedback so Alex, when we left our hero man all these people were there like I have to wonder, as is God gave you that opportunity.

What was it like for you that night when you let your head down on the pillow all fired but a good tired, you know, in about the Lord at work and everybody listing.

I know Rob, you probably have you know a lot of Christians in your audience to challenge every Christian listening to before you leave this world lead at least one so crime you can do it. Robbie arm like Belize likely God that there be a witness or something growing up I was so shy and introverted very shy quiet introverted person, but after I got 21 years old college student, I just wanted the people come to the Lord and them will recommend things Billy Graham, the great evangelist Billy Graham wrote a book called with God. The author wrote a little booklet that given 1 million but a larger book got hot, and it is not hard to learn how to evangelize people and got Billy Graham Debbie Jeremiah Franklin Graham all the ministers that we know and love. But there are people in your realm of influence. Everybody that they might not ever hear Debbie Jeremiah but they know you and not challenge people to to learn how to share the gospel and if you ask people I found out probably 10. If you ask people what would you like to make sure that you have the Lord in your life. And heaven forbid if you were to die today. You are ready to meet God.

I can share that in just a minute from God's word and you can know that you have Christ in your life would you like that Bobby will become a nation again and I really good about and it is probably share the gospel with people and you asked would you like to know God personally. Would you like to have a relationship with Jesus and I've had hundreds of people, good, I'm glad you brought that I've been thinking about this week and I didn't know how you know I believe there are millions of soul right to be harvested for the gospel. If we would put speak up.

So let me challenge all of your listeners on pray that God used me as a witness because especially in this covert world war violence in the Middle East, the economy, what's gonna happen. People are ready.

People are thinking about the Trinity, so let's just unite the body of crime until this world, how they can find you can agree with you more, Alex and Ellen and Nancy. It's interesting to me that your book is going to take a lot of people back to sort of a spiritual opening in their life right where they really sought after God and that the beauty of that is in in in moments like that were Alex was standing on the crosswalk.

People really begin to search and so you guys had a chance to put all these authors together and their experience to help people to feel God and that is as I reminisced about what happened to Garrity in the nation, and that people came together. People prayed together. People stood shoulder to shoulder, and at bonding that we hadn't had since World War II absolutely mailing you you want to see some money because it all came together rather well. We are more or less united in our group by were all Christian and when I went up when one of our members found illustration online front cover of Aaron turns out that right Dylan, but will have more Alex and Ellen and Nancy since they do so much more.

Yeah.
