The cuticle of the Russian nightmare know the devil's nightmare here from it's time to man up challenging men step into their true manhood.

Your chosen Truth Network podcast is starting in just a few seconds. Enjoy it, share it, but most of all, thank you for listening to the truth. Podcast network. This is good Truth Network kingdom pursue where you hear from ordinary people instilled with an extraordinary passion together we explore the stories of men and women who take what they love and let God turn their passion into kingdom pursuits now live from the truth. Your host Robbie Gilmore. What a fun show for you today on kingdom pursuits which you may know, is how does not take your passion and use it to build the kingdom, however, was well I gets talk to somebody is a similar passion to my own and today we have so maybe I where a more different art with a lot of people around that have way more experience about doing radio, but this gentleman certainly does today we have with us Dave Compton if you're not familiar with Dave, you need to get familiar with them. He now works for the Truth Network work so excited he's been with the same station though for 44 years.

So that was just as the Truth Network purchase W PET which exam 950 of the Piedmont inspiration station there in Greensboro North Carolina and with that we brought back the voice of inspiration himself.

Dave Compton wow I mean just actually lurk legend like when I go speak in Greensboro often I get an opportunity to do that speak in churches people as in there like you guys bought WB you brought Dave Compton back. It was genius. That's the best thing anybody ever did so you know if you had a chance to meet David, you've had a blessing so I know our listeners are interested how the world did you get in radio.

I mean if it was 44 years ago. What were you nine I actually Robbie and thank you for having me today. I have really look forward to this. I got into radio when I was 16.

That's when I went to work in radio, but it's a wonderful story of how all this developed and when I was a kid.

Now you gotta think about this Robbie. I can look out my kitchen window and see two houses across the street S. Scale St. in Reidsville and one Hells was Mr. Hardy that was my scoutmaster troop 789 Reidsville out of First United Methodist Church in Reidsville and then the Gilberts lived in the house next to Mr. Hardy. Now these two individuals. Dave Gilbert, he was Francis Gilbert signed and course a lot older than but it's amazing how these two people live right across the street from me because Mr. Hardy, the Boy Scouts made a field trip on Monday night. We normally met on Monday nights at the Scout hut at First United Methodist Church one night we went to a crusade. The Grady Wilson crusade.

They came to Reidsville, North Carolina and it was there. You know that I walked the aisle with with several of the boys and a lady that became a high school counselor later on Nancy McCall share the gospel with me and prayed the prayer with me and explained it all and that's when I got say so, I lived across the street from Mr. Hardy. Coincidence where got as this plan so were all dying to know about the other house house number two Dave Gilbert who pastored for many many years he taught high school for a long time, but he was my neighbor and a lot older than me. He mentored me as a young boy.

He was the kind of guy, and these were the early years he was in college, but he would take me to ball games.

He would take me to the movies he would take me down to Dairy Queen. Whatever. And he spent a lot of time with me. So being in college he was working at the local radio station where he took me to the radio station back in the 60s.

Robbie and I remember walking in there and seeing that man in the booth playing in the record said, and seeing all of the equipment seeing the transmitter seeing those big they had those big boom mics and right then and there. You know the radio book out of bit me and the other part of the story is that later all I'm assuming that having having worked with. A crusade was publicity Chairman for the Clive Dubin crusade that came to Reidsville so I know about the follow-ups in this data and the other, but shortly after I was saved in July 1970 by November, somebody contacted my picture and one Sunday morning, November 1970 downloaded everybody up in that Oldsmobile by no know it was it was it was a big room he Oldsmobile though my two sisters and my two brothers and myself and 88 or 90 and I think it was a 8888 understand so yeah Christian corridor. So anyway, so we went to Lawson B Road Baptist Church and what I did know that it was. That's where my dad, that's what he kinda grew up in the church so long story short on our pastor Janice Brown.

He passed away in 1971 and in 1972.

A product from he had pastored in Knoxville, Tennessee Rev. Harold Townsend came to be our pastor. So Robbie, we were all into Christian radio. Our church and every Sunday night. We would cut half of the radio program during the service and you know the the music director would you know that the trio would sing a theme song my wonderful Lord and then the music director walks up. Good afternoon radio for me as we were cutting the program on Sunday nights for Saturday afternoon so and then our pastor brother Harold Townsend when he got there he was working at W WMO in Reidsville.

I forget how many nights during the week we had a program there every Wednesday night it. This is how it, got started on the Wednesday night prayer meeting of the air, and they would play gospel music take prayer request and guest would come in and one night pastor Townsend took me with with him to W WMO and I was in all of the radio station once again. He said you want to be on the radio. I'll never forget the as he pulled some teletype off the UPR machine is it going to read the us. I'm glad no tape exist of that, but it was holding to base of experience. Long story short in this station was owned by the Oliver family and Reidsville and my pastor said I think I can get you a part-time job.

If you're interested because he had been training me. You know how to run the board in this that the other and so I went to work part time. Robbie 19's see this would be in late 75 early 1976 somewhere in there and that's where my journey started and I stated W WMO.

Let's see, until 1978 so at that point I was in my dad's television and repair shop.

That's what he did for a living course he been in radio to Robbie many years ago and a gentleman that I went to school with that lives in Florida now Eric Clark. He was working part-time at W PT, and I was really looking to make a change and he said Dave he says the afternoon guy that was owned W PT in the afternoon playing something gospel music's he took another job and I'm on Christmas break and he says I've got to get back to class so they really need somebody, and nobody knows that something gospel music like you do. He said you would be perfect for the job so he said I'll go back and talk to the program director and and he will call you, so it any right, I had been in contact with the program director.

He said you want to come and see me Monday.

This was on the file you want to come see me Monday.

I said I sure do so well. Dave talk to me. My here inspirations when I have an inspirational riddle coming up by all means get that by the way, our producer here at King versus the first radio stations.

She worked at was the and she came in as a young girl start date. Welcome back to hear how God takes your passion and uses it to build the kingdom and we're hearing about a passion for something gospel using the peak months inspiration station with a competent day. How fun is that. So you knew that I might. I you know I just couldn't stop my healing on memory lane with God forever and we got Beth and memory lane, we got here about this that I have a year is here speaking of inspiration and Dave together today. I tried to be inspirational by saying you know you miss 100% of the shots that you don't take. And now I'm banned from AA for life.

This was little risk of you've heard of you and how intelligentsia time is actually funny I thought Helen Keller was truly inspirational bench. Think of him.

It is the variance. She was she was able learn how to read and write.

Despite being from Alabama, stage left and I actually have to tell you this last one I have. I probably last for five minutes out of your me back there as I just did not come in so it's not quite true, but it is funny. Grandfather died last night and figure out what his blood type wasn't time to give a transfusion. He was however such an inspirational guy to the very end of never forget his last words to me. Be positive. That's funny, be positive, so I have it easy riddle to passage in the Bible is inspiration station. How fun is that passage in the Bible is your can't miss this one really folks passage in the Bible is your ration station 866-34-TRUTH 87884's number to call in with Beth and if they do that, remember there's no answer to that price. Lots of great things in CDs and DVDs so what passage in the Bible is your personal inspiration station. I think it's a few collars on part I shows a polymer that and also share what you keep an animal I hear the stories I want to hear so meanwhile back. We left her here we are in made it all the way up tonight. What I found out in the break unit was. I graduated from high school and I was like man. He had a lot going on when I was still in high school but then come to find out he did graduate from high school until 77 so he graduated the year before he went to W PT but the family did you go to W PT.

I never went to WBT where did you go I worked at WRQK which was the FM sister station of W PT so I knew Dave from where we work for the same company to same man same building in the same building that I what what year did you go to work at that station I had just graduated from college, so it was 1983 so five years later, in the timeline and people are chatting and he walked in the two-year radio station and you met Mr. Compton right, who'd been there for a long time. At this point right and back in those days Beth and you will remember, and our listeners in Richmond, Virginia will recognize this night we were owned by the Robbins pharmaceutical company at that time. Remember that methane I remember Mr. Armstrong owned that not long had had I been there. He sold it to a trap and that's why right. They were good to us, absolutely. What was their slogan.

We gotcha we got your cough syrup. We got Strasser. I don't remember right it. It wasn't hot air conditioner car age. Robbins now. I thought it was Armstrong that was the old line used.

I forget exactly how it went that you know air-conditioning by BH Armstrong and Robbie don't know this Bethann, but we have to stay WBT and WRT case stormy the dog friendly and stormy live there. Dad is a public affairs director take cough medicine is trying to picture the whole thing. It must been quite quite a station.

But you your love for gospel music apparently happened shortly after you were saved or was that before. Well, really, that was after the fact. I grew up listening to music.

My dad was was a singer and so forth and first first thing ever heard was my dad singing, playing his Gibson guitar lesson electric current first and acoustic guitar getting the attic. Gibson acoustic guitar. Yes he did.

Yes he did and but in the right and then you know he loved country music and what all do we used to listen to country music but you know after I was saved and when we started going to church.

We started listening to WW them when they had a program Robbie every Friday night called music in the night that was hosted by the late Rev. Jimmy Dillon, the late Rev. Harold Chilton and so every Friday night they would come on the air somewhere around 10 o'clock at night and this would go like the one in the morning and they were playing the happy Goodmans I had never heard any music quite like the happy Goodmans and the Thrasher brothers in the him pills and all these folks so we started listing in and that my dad mother and myself. We thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed that and horse our church. I Mentioned Lawson Bill Rd., Baptist Church I'm I'm a member there now but we have a lot of concerts back in the day. A lot of concerts in our church hopper brothers and Connie. I remember them coming in the Lefevre's the legendary Lefevre's and so yeah, something gospel music is is part of my DNA for sure. Yeah, I mean that's really no way to worship God clearly through music and it touches so many people in semi-different ways, and I think it's a little different thing than we have here in the truth were we when we go with the spoken word, but know those words that are that are come out that way are absolutely phenomenal so we have some rattlers that are calling and plus their exactly what we got Keith a man from the previous just like it here. Go to in one so we got Anna TO be in Huntersville today. I believe Annie Ramakrishna or on kingdom pursuits actually now you everybody's got a different inspiration station with what's your favorite. I'm interested anyway and what is your go to inspiration and word God like that idea. And the Lord God that I the Lord know where you me that I find it David how God grant that guy by and even when the enemy died anyway, the way he like you now and how well okay I have to take it that bad, but I I went to, Alabama.

My daughter goes to college there right now so I really have no place to stay out here anyway. Diane together, but I like reading the story and talk about God guide to provide even when time brings something that the growling but 10 years in my car one day last able to pull over and break down and I'm thinking that I don't know I can depend on husband or anybody else but anyone that came into the tent guy and he said everything that I died.

It all died that the guy said he tried to try to meet again and I can still all the sudden he was there.

God showed up turned the key and they down the road. I got an incredible that's right that's right well we got to go because legally right and left him back here how God thinks your kingdom and we have something with a real passion for inspiration Dave Compton PET one of the Truth Network's new station thing at 950 there in the Greensboro market months inspiration station something gospel a lot more from Dave but we got Amy Koppel with the cure on and Amy got a big show coming up today. You've got a Christian counselor on talk about depression. Talking about anxiety and what a great topic really in times like this for everybody's face and so many struggles and is got all we need is that the question that you guys rest allow them to write right into the parenting plan and hope God they got to learn how to live. It comes on at 1 o'clock on the Truth Network that's 1 o'clock Eastern.

If you happen to be in Salt Lake City here in Iowa today so you know this opportunity to call in your can have the counselor right there with you right Amy okay 866-34-TRUTH come at 1 o'clock Amy Koppel, and the cure thank Amy appreciates going.

God bless. So want to finish up with and real quick and we still have teeth so Keith, please hang on for us in so and just mine.

Bottom line, grade, hearing David is now Jesus. The bottom line and knowing that when the enemy of God always always and and got where guy anyway. Guide to provide today that truly think that the meeting talk about a story with a beginning, middle and pure drama and pure wonder of God used all Joseph had to go through and he went into prison to praise something anyway but I want to say about that great at usual. I look forward to next week, not unless you have a great Saturday my friend. Speaking of friends I have, Jesus is in the high point with this in Keith beer on kingdom pursuits and so what's your inspiration station rations my duration versus our specially medically for a while but Mark chapter 11 verse started 23 that's been quite helpful to me in the loop. Verse 19 and Luke 11. Very helpful to me a lot of love going through medically and so Mark 1123 is the first year sites in St. James right laid on us for verily I say on the old verily you do so ever so slight this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that that those things which he cited shall come to pass. He shall have whatsoever in and also talks about believe that you received what you asked for.

You will have it, but it also is important thing in their if you have anything against them. I got basically got take care of that business first before the blessings can be put on some, "quote from memory, but for my medical thing like I'm having to relearn some of the calls but I don't mind.

Relearn very good one, but I can't remember what part of the Bible's Old Testament might've been the book of Isaiah is one of the most amazing persons are. I just remember the first that it does God speak, let us reason together and I thought I thought it was so amazing the God who created the universe. It could turn into a sack of ashes. Just you know just about all but you know some eyes messing up in a family with client come almost reason together to quit doing such a reason. With this lifetime is so amazing sense of Isaiah Isaiah 118 yeah yeah okay let us reason together set the Lord, that your sins though your sins be as scarlet, shall be as snow and in the thing that I can't help but just note Keith and I loved your universe and Mark and I never read this point tell you just said it. So I'm giving you total credit for showing me something about that. That really think about this the rest of the day you see any mate you may know that seed in faith are almost interchangeable. So this idea of when J when God was when Jesus was saying, you know, a sower went out to plant what was he planning this planning season. So he's planning faith right and so in the whole thing about moving the mountains. What is it take it.

It takes belief like the gods going to come and rescue when you're in the hospital right and what is Satan want to steal based on the last awareness talk about he's want oxidize your seeds man PE. Doesn't that you trust God he doesn't like that that that's where your your bedrock lays an Excel like right if if I know that God needs to move that mountain. I know we got, you know that I have that kind of faith I'm telling you this mountain is a debit best get out the way and see the second mound that you mentioned. By the way, which is my sin be in the scarlet and needs to be white as snow that that faith is where the whole deal where the whole the whole thing life changes. I will motivate another day. You weeks ago.

I just like it was coming out my mouth just burst. You know, let us reason together.

If you'll start doing this you quit doing the remember everything that came after, and that's why I think it really capable it became for me.

I probably couldn't remember what you just told some up your looking at what we think all yeah Isaiah 43 to Keith. You'll love the as this can accomplish what you said and God said, when thou passes through the waters, I will be with the and through the rivers, they shown not overflow the when a man is through the fire, thou shalt not be burned, neither shall the flame kindle upon the really love that Robbie] right now. He indeed nation going on when God inspired it and said thank you for calling him what a great set of verses to think about: I have a great weekend. My friend got blessed. Thank you got one more segment with our friends WP VTAM 915 Green for all Dave Compton and that family might get right back welcome back pursuits where we hear how God takes your kingdom and were really having fun sharing the same passion for radio with our good friend then new truth employee Dave Compton WP TAM nine early station. It's been there for years and years and years and the legend continues and and and Keith. If you're still listen. I mentioned to Dave about was it his name Max.

Max makes Max me radio veteran par Exelon's and Dave was a big big big fan used to record him yes and and bring them to come home and listen to and said to get some ideas on how to how to do this, yes, and I found out through somebody that he was doing a live remote and how appointed Janice cafeteria so I taught told somebody out your house managing directly in an acid. I'll be back and I went down to Janice cafeteria and I got to meet Max Meeks and it was a pleasure to shake his hand. Yes, it was and there was a guy. I'm trying member's name at WSJ asked that was just legendary Beck Glenn Scott Max Meeks is actually on W MFR when I programmed SAS.Debbie on the far side so you can plan yeah Glenn Scott you know when I first moved Winston. He was divorced and so they both are just it's it's more than remarkable to me that I ever did radio because I was terrified I know I'm out of the car dealership and he was. He wanted me to come on the station and talk about the dealership that I was doing, so that's probably the first time I was ever on radio in my life was with Glenn Scott and he starts asking me questions I like. This is amazing to me how God ever talked me into doing this because I very very very self-conscious and I think about that every time somebody calls and what courage it takes really for a list or to call in consist it is not as easy as it sounds. Robbie speaking, JAS Gino's will be Jean Overby was a mainstay there. I guess you knew him best thing he had just left you up if you walked in the halls. The hallowed halls of WSJ asked people why and Jean Overby.

Of course he was the voice that seeks but his brother live right next door to us. Growing up, Frank Overby and Frank and then he is sister Dixie Jean's brother and sister. They were members of our church never got to meet Jean always wanted to meet him. I'm friends with his son on Facebook, but yeah, what a crew would accrue that were so yeah compare for me because I didn't know Max Meeks Glenn Scott to Max next afternoon both that Max was older than Glenn, so really probably Max was the first leg.

Glenn Scott probably said the same thing that Dave Compton says about Max Meeks about Max Meeks he know he was he was.

I think he's I think Max Meeks had was broadcasted continuously. The morning the morning so more than anybody else in the US is that right like he held the record, I Max. They were both charming, honest, kind and gracious man Max Meeks, Glenn Scott and Dave Compton are common denominator. It's what they share well 44 years wow Dave, I mean Max Meeks was on the air like 64 doing mornings now, now, which is you know that's the deal.

Mornings is so really, to have you here and have it with the Truth Network.

I know Stu is just so thrilled just so thrilled that God you know I guess had that connection for us as part of the Truth Network and and summer workouts working okay anytime we can take part in matters like omicron. Yeah, I gotta tell you that the former company that I work for great folks. It was just a business decision, but there was a reduction of force and so one day you know I'm told that you were so sorry this is your last day so only job like 42 years, three weeks and something so many days and so that was very difficult. Obviously from working actively 42 years and then all of a sudden it is concluded well, one of the first people that reached out to me to pray with me was Stu Epperson Junior he would call me and known Stu for a lot of years. He was call me in praying for me and long story short, I mean this is this is what we talked about earlier. At the very outset, I get a call one day Stu says a day. I'm going to look at your transmitter tomorrow and I said really the one on S. Eugene St. He said I'm going to check out your transmitter and you tower meet me at Panera bread 10 o'clock and call in their essence is this Thracian station in Greensboro, especially if you love God you love the truth is, we've got so much truth come and ask you if you are in here turning 12 o'clock here now encouraging prayer.
