So, welcome back Jim, thank you for your and Jim wrote a book a few years ago that last time I interviewed you. I think this was called Robbie's hobbies years it's been kingdom was long time ago Jim but anyway he wrote the book is got a conservative and does it even matter and I can't help but think wow is a very timely topic is that you seem to be a nation divided on whether matters are not so we got this can be fun.

It really is fun to have my friend back.

He's moved to Atlanta so this is can be fun to talk to him and then we also have Joe and Jesse with SNCC's Smith rock roofing this or so is a Smith rock different than regular rock where little bit better. We just met so anyway, as you might've guessed. Speaking of roofing) comes it always has to record time getting into the riddles. Robbie is roof jokes are right there on the house.

I try to self to a vehicle about seven years ago and Joe go finish them off and sold one if it wasn't about three years ago something I don't think was quite that long ago for modern yes or an infinity or which went yet. I work for an entity.

My son worked for modern for a long time. Really, he was at the turn of the story. Many ended up at the Chevy store.

I was guy was at the Toyota store for five years in Internet dancing around so you remember Dan okay so I used to have. He was I forgot my Christian something guy and his dance at a rally and a man in the modern guy was damn about whatever and whatever I would say here you go. Yep, you're right. Met Rob remember in used to say he was my McMahon customers out I'm sorry Jim, we digress you know so that's where the Smith rock right very cool so you guys went from no just plain old car salesman to the top job right will in our history. As you know, and in construction. That was a remodeler so we grew up.

You know, our summers on the on on roofs and installing drywall and flooring, and all I kind of stuff so you a lot about spirits from dad's business high school that's really cool that's really cool. Obviously with the car business. If you're in sales, which I'm guessing you guys were you kinda got an idea of how to work with customers and try to listen because they will realize this might if you want to sell cars.

Jim, you may not know this but I miss him tight people coming and don't inherently trust you as is true.

Make it as a car salesman. You actually have to develop some really good listening skills have to develop some some really good, you know, essentially, mannerisms and things in order for people to go okay. This is because otherwise you know there you know it wasn't like that when you're a captain in the Navy. I mean it was that the deal like did your other people come in like if I trust this Will I don't think that maybe I wrote about a career like an 87 it's a similar thing you know, and even in sharing the gospel right now. Having the ability to listen to somebody and ability to under no attempt to understand what their needs are and whatever and and begin to process you know how or how did you put me in the situation and how you go about doing that so that's what happened with you in writing your book right on Jim. As you sense God showing up in San Jim I want you to write a book about me being a conservative. So much to convince you that blessing like an likely contact. You know like the first century treated women and some of the things he said were very revolutionary and liberal or the cultural blessing rise and figured out where God isn't doing some really good point Jim because it's kind of like, I can imagine meet Mike Joshua when he met the angel the Lord writing and say hey are you are you a Democrat or Republican Mel. You missed something here somewhere right now the Lord has his own platform from which he works today.

This agreement every single time.

Jim Kinney back with us is the author of God is a conservative and my new friends who I find out already friends my son I Joe and Jesse with Smith rock roofing find out about all these things.

At first I got here. We got a Riddler on the phone. We got Scott is got an answer for this and raising the roof characters in the Bible since got your on kingdom pursuits good morning good morning Rob, when the paralytic actually Laura, is that correct Lawrence with her if they first had to raise the roof to make all that work. I love that I actually think it say the leader maybe Peter and John and they probably all help and they were roof razors. There is no doubt about that and now I was really, really, really love that story and I love to think about those guys that lowered the paralytic because Jesus is very interesting to them. He says yours. Your sense of Artie been forgiven. You know, he says this to the man that's being lowered races, your sins are forgiven.

That's the actual statement often wondered. Was he talking to the people that were lowering their friend like you, you, me, everybody. We all have opportunities to forgive people write so when when we forgive somebody. Jesus could say, your sins are forgiven you know, there might've been an interesting squabble between those people on the roof and this man at some point time before he was hurt. Or maybe they heard and that's the reason that you know how to I don't know the story, but I've always found it fascinating. I mean, obviously. It upset the Pharisees that Jesus said your your sins are forgiven, but II think it's interesting point to ponder no ice way too much. It's got your letter.

You're exactly right. Thank you for calling the banks about so I'm interested you guys were homeschooled correct and and so your father before you obviously roof or your parents are wonderful Christian people what's obvious and they had you guys so how did how did your faith go from your father's faith to your faith. Whoever wants to go first for that question.

Like you know, I know you grew up you thought your parents face like you. Like so many children, but at some point time you had to make that your own and can you share that story.

Sure yet what we started off Twin City Bible church things Quincy Baptist Church was started there is going to be Bible now off of Hubert near peters Creek right and this will restart often the other. A lot of that's it.

That's a really interesting question because you start off you know in a in a Christian household.

I can't remember a time of the Bible wasn't taught in my house because it was just from the very beginning it was it was right there, you know, we were we devotions every morning. I think I think we were coming along got a little bit older, we were doing to boffins at 5 AM to 530 in the morning we were doing devotions no and that came before breakfast and came before school that close release for the spearhead of the early devotionals that was there to you know it's a it's a process of personally had to go through some difficult times in my life for face to become real. You know for trying to become real. I think it's easy to sit back and talk a good game and know know a lot of tickets and then one of those where your faith became real.

I mean actual story of what happened. Yeah what had a couple of had a couple surgeries in my past and that's that's difficult. That's scary.

You know that's a scary situation and that's I think looking back that's one of those situations where God uses something that's kind of a negative and uses it to you know to pull us closer to him. A scary situation that there's no there's no guarantee Jesse in the dock since it's time to start cotton right and so did you go to God with me in prayer with matter, can you kind of walk us through how he reassured you yeah and I have a lot of absolutely that was a good opportunity to strengthen my prayer life and you know the course. I had family there. That was you know that was there but your you know your family can't, you know, no one can experience that for you that you that's you going through that and and that's when it's just you and God. That's when you know that really strengthens you have the opportunity to strengthen your faith and so how did God show up well I pulled through both of those and both of those surgeries when I was very young. And then I was about 20 years old. The last one that I had and that was that was us. That was a scary experience. I was older I knew I knew more, you know, I was aware of what was going on. The seriousness of of the procedure and all that in the spirit of Scripture or something that no particular, no particular Scripture comes to mind, but you know definitely I think prayer probably prayer in general was the number one thing that changed my life at that point and this intimacy begins to happen to Jim again getting back to God's calling you to write this book. How did how did you get there. Well I with the fact that it appeared to me most people took for granted and blessing and I just started to formulate couple people came alongside and really encourage me. Read some of the stuff that I was considering including in the book in and said we need this and people need to be intentional about their decisions. The word luck doesn't have any place in the Christian life when things break our way. If you want to say it that way. God's blessing overlooking us as his children, and we need to see him at every point in the return we need to understand that blessing comes from the hand of the creator and not from the government and not from circumstances but God overseas the lives of his children shall know I'm just thinking about the blessing of freedom that you know when you wrote that book, I don't know half I had any concept of how I took my freedoms for grant to sleep. We grew up in a country where you could post whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, where everyone if if I want to go to work.

No, I could go to work. That doesn't necessarily play out united all the sudden I want to go to a movie I could I could go to movie if you know and all sorts of things are happening and I'm not saying that is the government.

It took the young to sing that we had freedoms we had health. We had a lot of stuff and and it was been an interesting year is God just like in your case, I'm thinking Jesse God told legs off our stool that we believe in United States of America. To realize I was leaving on these things, but is God close them out right, you end up) prayer and and I'll be in ominous to say that my prayer life over the last since November 3 is significantly different when it when it comes to to some of those things that you Joe yeah definitely go meta-November 3 and whatnot but you know I'm I'm young, you still try to do my career. Yeah, I don't have any kids yet not married yet it is a lot future things that are going through my head that I you know what Libby old Yellen happens that you like anybody else, but it's really taken. It's taken something like this and other things for me to come sit back and trust God and be like, listen if if we die today.

You know you to live it now to live is Christ in you guys game and that's really has stuck with me a lot because you know I am. I am 27.

I hope I live to the meal a bit older, but that may not be enough.

America may not be here. We may we may face and things that reminds me I might do a show with Mike Swick called is not from God.

Thursday night I get a text. I'm on my way home and it says I'm ready to die for syntax for Mike Swick and I'm ready to die life so I texted back Mike you okay now in a good way.

It is to die and think in a good way. And then he was speaking about the very passages is you know he was processing that. But I'm very curious so suggesting, how about you coming yet.

Joe get the right trust our mom understands how much you have, did your faith become more real for you. Well I got we have an older brother who is seven years alternate address was five years older than a site I pretty much just fell in line. My whole life is just been following line and they were both great models, so that made it easy.

You know our parents to friends and family being in church.

I think when I turned 18 graduate high school and spring 2012 have been working a little bit had some hopes and aspirations about college in sports and things like that and probably due to some of my own choices and then maybe some bad luck or whatever. Some of the things that play out that I thought and that was tough that was kind of my whole life.

What I'd known and so it's been a lot more that you can find out more from Jim on the current situation and we got so much more kingdom pursuits.

I did know Christ at all and so you know I had a huge disadvantage, but is really encouraging to see you guys. Faith and the courage really to get on the radio. This is an easy stuff, you know, some he told me when I was 23. Re: are you going to get on the radio talk about God like I am what so, but I am very curious to understand like I wanted to be a basketball player to when I was in high school he might not guess that 657 my know my son and then there comes a point where what you thought your future was to be God's got some little different in mind and and and so can you take us there like your brother didn't yeah so I guess you come at a high school going into the workforce you yeah you just you to slap in the face of a lot of things you people you mean to you. You know I was home. Yeah, I have a chance for all his teachers. You mean the exact site that you know working classes coming to just the total culture shock and at that point, it's very easy to have a diverse gasoline into your own understanding, not underground well on it even though my own understanding was a Christian home Christian Christian-based background whatnot.

I think sometimes not be cliché, but yeah, you coming on your parents that you might well mama save you mom your mom's good, I'm good, and sometimes it can take some real slap in the faces and some some failures and some long nights and and you failing something to come to realize I maybe I'm not who I am and also where is your identity you know if if you didn't get to be a major-league baseball player or you're not the top-selling River, North Carolina, orb, or whatever, what your identity and you got some still working on not. I'm still I'm still trying to make sure my identity is in Christ and what he's done for us on the cross and not have a great roofer or hey, I did a good job. It might have a project or even even helping people.

That's not that's not that's not what the ultimate goal is ask this and and I can tell you that one of the reasons that Jim and I are the friends that we are is that he is a phenomenal disciple like he studies the Bible he sees really really cool things and then he to share some of the people around you and so Jim and I agree, Jim.

The reason it that were as close as we are as we both share a really phenomenal delight in the word of God in really time to dig deep into it and see it and that's where I am really sharpens iron done absolutely it might approach approaches that the Bible is not about your information I provide you with more data, more history, more stories Bible is written to be applied practically in your life every day when you haven't learned how to use the Scripture to make decisions and understand God, you're wasting your time and sell along those so you been taken. I'm sure you have this the offensive the last few months. Is there some Scripture that you really feel like applies to what your personal experiences been as you're trying to figure out your path right this minute will the one thing I keep going back to remember that we spiritual warfare. People are making the Mistakes are being made in our culture and our society and our political system today are just blind.

There just to see they don't know the truth. There is antagonism against heaven. Somebody tell you what's right and wrong, and we have a nation in rebellion against allowing God to be the authority in what we think if we can line up enough ones and zeros in the proper order.

We can replace got the truth is the answer to peace and purpose is a binary choice and you have to choose yes or no is Jesus who is what you make it binary choice. It doesn't matter how good a programmer you are. How many ones and zeros. You can line up to the chief some sort of solution or some sort of answer you've already found the truth of all universe when you understood that Jesus is here.

I know so yeah when I this is a minute by minute dealer sometimes second by second, that I feel great.

And then also that I don't feel so great and then fortunately, the Holy Spirit will kick in and save Robbie go take a look at what you studied this morning so I came up with this and I hope this might help you but I used to take journals and write all my stuff in the journals and I like that because I can go look at the journals never wanted to look at but nowadays due to technology. There's a notes feature in my iPhone okay I got. Be very careful getting lose them. Also, I worked very hard to separate these things by month and day and all that stuff, but by using the notes in my phone of the words and the things I studied that morning.

I cannot tell you how many times during the day. I go back and I look at what God was teaching me this morning because man I lost it I mom my mom like where what did I get here, you know how to how is it that I'm so frustrated right this minute and how is it that I'm no working through things and fortunately you know it's really cool that if you if God gives you some it's it's it's a good you want to say some Joseph go for now I'm just I'm just listening. I like listening. I'm this close to the mic in case you call me now okay I'll be ready to go I'm ready to go Monday said sit In your ear. In that same place right that that you you're getting the staffing.

One of my life is delicious to Christ. Let I live yet not I but Christ is not a delay in seeking out what you and I what I might. My I hate to break Jim so we got so much Jesse and JoAnn Smith roofing.

Welcome back to when we hear how God takes. They were so blessed to have my good friend Capt. Jim Kinney U.S. Navy retired and all that me tell you if you want to talk some more stories has some unbelievable service to this country so we are so grateful for everything you did there. Capt. Jim and then we have Joe and Jesse was Smith rock roofing. My new friends is just really really fun to see two young disciples like this and so I got to tell you during the break, You would loved it because all of a sudden Jesse looks at me and he goes will.

Who do you say I am and so take take up your thought there on how important it is that you don't go with what other people say is right, that was just the Scripture you know where Jesus asked the disciples reminded me it was the disciples he was talking to. I think there were two Peter one of them would you know said well you know others say that you're a rabbi or maybe you're a prophet you're sent to us by God and Jesus almost kind of get the feeling Jesus almost kind interrupted him or he was at least eager to ask the question, who do you say that I am in and that's just kind of weird.

Talk about before.

Kind of brought that that scripture to my mind that's such a fundamental question to answer for us to answer as I Jim I think you you touched on you. Who do we who do we think the Christ is and what is are not just what we say with our mouth, but you how our actions or behaviors are our lives reflect who we think Jesus is what we believe. I can look at your checkbook and find out what you know action if reveal itself in the way we make decisions in the way we treat people the way we think everyday crisis go back and challenge and check my faith. Somebody said earlier. Well my mom was a godly woman. So I'm okay.

So many people who don't have an understanding of the personnel personal relationship that can be developed with Jesus Christ in everyday walk.

If you just seek him out in daily things of life is not just luck is not just will. I had a good day. The blessing of the when he touches your life in the void we need to remember to thank him for the little blessing that got somewhere on time when I didn't think I could make it because of going to have to do a traffic stop lights and the traffic was gone.

The stop lights were green and I got there that was my lucky know before I got the car got cleared. The road got understand that God in our lives every day. It's it's all too easy and so I'm thinking you guys need to pray before we got on the race because I'm worried I've seen just waiting on and and I can see what happening was on airplane mode and subtract the length of the prayer depends on. You know Beth and you had a picture of this Labrador ride climbed a ladder what you got there was something it was on social media about three days ago this guy who was on his route to do something like his – got up on the roof you safe and turned around there was this leopard is golden retriever fear and one of his neighbors had one of those cameras, you know, looking at his house and you seem the dog go up the ladder is the regular letter right now normal scary it was.

I think it was at least a story half concrete and I was a dog when I got up in front of you don't have time to tell anyway so about three years ago I start I'm up at 4 o'clock in the morning praying and studying the Bible and all stuff and I hear some footsteps on the roof and I'm like wow, those are that somebody on my roof and so I told him he looked call the police to go see who this person is and so I got my shotgun step out the door and there's a dude on my roof. Now my daughters in the upstairs and I might like what is this guy. Do you know like what in the world is for the morning.

This guys on my roof so I'm like, and I cocked the got you know he can hear it because don't shoot me, and I said what are you doing on my roof pieces. I'm looking for my daughter. I said, I'm afraid you're looking for my daughter and it turned out the guy was high on some drugs or whatever and and he was actually looking for his daughter on my roof blessed and my wife is talking to please his father. Part of the story.

She's like I think you guys need to calm my husband has a gun is pointing at somebody's on a roof right this minute, so I just heard them cocked the gun hear sirens coming from everywhere like, you know, because this completely had their attention that you know and so this dude runs off my meeting runs like Jim, I digress. We can we get something biblical. Now to finish. He ended up getting arrested and and everybody's turned his life a little bit and we offer him a job. He sounds like is pretty screening make a group story. To quote from one of the pitch of the roof determines the urgency of the prayer.
