Revelation chapter 3 and will get right into it this evening.

Revelation chapter 3 to begin reading in verse 14 and unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write this is the church of Laodicea, and God is riding through the pastor.

The angel of the church is who we would term the pastor nowadays and God is letting him know through him, letting him know the state of the church of Laodicea.

God begin to describe to him what God's opinion of that church was by the way, may I say this, your opinion of this church is not really the most important opinion not want you to have a good opinion of this church and I want to have a good opinion of this church and I want our community to have a good opinion of this church, but never should we do anything here to have a good opinion with people that would give us a bad opinion with God. What goes on here has to please God sometimes is difficult because you know some people just don't understand that in and you don't want to feel you don't want to hurt or anything, but we have to make sure what we do here pleases God and so much a look if you would under the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write these things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God. Notice this, I know thy works, that thou art neither cold or hot. I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew the out of my mouth that he's a preacher. What is that that is the old-fashioned Old Testament Hebrew word for vomit, so I gotta say I will literally regurgitate you out of my mouth. So why is he so strong about that labor 17 because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing, and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. I counsel the women, God's counsel so we better listen I counsel the to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou may us be rich and white raiment, that thou may us be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou may us see as many as I love God says listen to this, I rebuke and chasten be zealous therefore, and repent. One of the most precious statements in the Bible is when God says those that I love, I chasten you know what God is saying this I know what I just told you, probably stings a little because God just told me this church. He just told them that they're not hot they're not cold. They are just going through the motions and they're really not Patty nor the word apathy means and were preaching on this tonight. The giant of apathy the word apathy simply means this without passion without passion. Could that possibly describe some of us and our reaction to church when we come. Could that possibly describe our state and our attitude and the way we are when it comes to the house of God.

There member who is talking to hear he's not talking to an unsaved person. He's not talking to what we would call it backslidden person. He's not talking to an individual that doesn't go to church doesn't have much use for church. That's not who is talking to these talking to the church he's talking to the faithful members of this church and he said this.

I wish that you are either hot or cold, but your neither your lukewarm you have no passion.

You have no guess what you recall motivation and he says I literally am going to regurgitate you out of my mouth. Father, I need your help tonight.

And Lord, I pray that each person here would recognize that this is out of a heart of love and as you wrote, the pastor of Laodicea Lord, I believe you played some things on the pastor Kerwin Baptist Church. I believe you've asked me to speak on some things and Lord for every person here. My hope and desire is that they're not offended that they're not hurt in any way, but Lord, I have to do it you've asked me to do. Lord I love this church and I believe that this church has great possibility to be a lighthouse to this community to reach far and wide to help people to love them to have compassion on the Lord were knocking to do one thing for you.

Unless our church either gets hot or cold, but as long as we go through the motions and all without passion then Lord there's no way that you can lie on us the blessings that you desire to give in your precious name we pray. Amen. What you notice first tonight in this passage, God's consideration.

Look at verse 15 God's consideration.

What is he saying in verse 15 he says this I know thy works.

God is saying this. I've been watching.

I noticed you might not know that I've noticed and you might not realize that I've been watching but God says here, I know thy works, may I say this, by the way, it doesn't matter who else knows God knows exactly what's going on here at this church. God knows exactly what's going on in your life, and may I say this, that is a very blunt statement. God says I know thy works, may I let you know that God knows everything in your life.

God knows everything behind-the-scenes. God knows all the stuff that you might not want anyone else to know and that I might not want any or anyone else to know God knows it all and you might sit here and you might say nobody notices the things I do around here, nobody appreciates or says thank you listen to me dear friend head out to be a comfort to you to know that God knows your works. May I also say that if there's a whole lot more that you could do for God and you might fool people and you might have us fooled to think you're some super Christian and by the way, just about anybody that that that lead somebody leave their super Christian for the furthest thing from it. In my opinion cannot say this God knows your heart. God knows your works. He says this I know thy works, what is absent.

Want to know to secondly God's contempt in verse 15. This is what he said I know thy works, thou art neither cold or nor hot. God's been watching God's been observing and this is what he said about what they've done.

He said I know your works, and this is what I have been able to tell and see for myself that you are neither hot nor cold to look at me want you to understand this, we always say that cold would be bad and hot would be good and if you will look at the context of this chapter that is not at all what God was saying God's not saying that cold. We always think when you when you say cold that were cold spiritually and when he says hot. That means work where where were on fire for God. That's not always talking about here he is talking about an illustration he's talking about temperature and he says this. You're not either cold or hot, and he said I wish you were one of the other to look at me you really think that God would rather you be further away from him, then lukewarm to look at me. Some people have said preach this passage and will say that God would rather you be very backslidden for close to him. One or the other but he doesn't like you in the middle. Look at me different you really think God would rather have you further away from him. Then lukewarm alchemy what he is saying is this something that's cold has use for things something that's hot has used for things. Let me tell you the problem with lukewarm lukewarm has adapted itself to the surroundings around when something lukewarm that means it's been controlled by the temperature around it, not changing others by being changed itself.

God is not saying that cold is bad. Hot is good and I'd rather you be hot or cold, then lukewarm what God is saying is this, I wish that you were committed to something I wish that you had a passion for something, whatever that is called can be used get cold. Whatever that is how that can be used get hot, but do something don't sit there and be comfortable and be lukewarm in a taste of there's a lot of cool things that are refreshing. There's a lot of hot things that are nourishing but God said, I I've seen your works, and this is what I've noticed you're not hot or cold. This is what God says I wish I would rather I would that you would be hot or cold. That was God's contempt listen to me dear friend as God looks at your life and as God looks at mile.

I remember always talking to these talking to a saved individual in a church trying to serve God and as God looks at your life, would he see you right now as hot as cold or as lukewarm did have a passion for church. You have a passion when you read the Bible you have a passion to do something for God cannot tell you something dear friend, the most dangerous thing that could happen any charge is for us to become apathetic for us to lose our passion to lose our burden to lose our vision to lose our energy just to come sit and listen to something and watch and locate, observe, and go right back home the same way we came.

Why even come the church were to do that. No longer. This unsafe world looks at us and says why don't even understand what the big deal is because they watch us go to church. They want to say like mom's monologues.

They want just go home and then we tell them how badly they need that this on this on Kohler Baptist Church. Look at me. I am telling you this, that of God's going to use this church. We are going to have to go one where the other. We cannot sit back and be lukewarm look of a bus captaincy are the unsung heroes at this place but cannot say something if you're on a bus route. You better run it if you want about you better have some passion about it.

You look at me Sunday school teachers. I don't care if there's one child in there or if there's 100 children in there if you're gonna teach a class and of God's will in trust you with that great privilege can I say this, my desires, your pastor is that you would get a passion for that thing that you would pray about it. Fast about it.

Study for it down on your knees and say, God, this is one area that you entrusted to me that my not be big other people. What is the biggest thing in my life and God. I want to give everything I have got Jason we need some help in the choir is getting pitiful to church this size doesn't have more people in the choir and we used to have more people in the choir where they've gone. I don't know but cannot say this with that as a sign of his Luke warm that's a sign that we've lost our passion. We've lost our burden.

We lost our vision. I cannot say this or some people appear that have been faithful in statement choir and sung to the best of their ability.

And it's unfair to them that everybody else accepted everybody else leave when they're trying their best to the people sit back and say well choir one so good. Let me tell you why because we lost our passion for this and I'll tell you the truth in your anatomy. If you want, but I'm telling you the truth I mean we can hardly get ushers and you say will further judging by the preacher.

I can't believe it. It is things that I don't like MER church is good right now but that's what I'm scared of what you think were fine working with a well everything is good at regrowing away veterans and families.

Offensive people are common to look at me, dear friend.

That's the worst thing that could ever happen is that we would just get lukewarm about you. I find myself getting lukewarm and you can find your self getting lukewarm and I don't want to let it happen.

God's contempt what you notice thoroughly God's condemnation.

What he say in verse 16 so then because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot, neither cold nor hot, I will spew the out of my mouth look at me different is a bridge while you get all excited why you jumped up and down say what because this is a big deal.

God is a huge deal to him.

That's pretty strong language coming from God that he would say this not because they went out to a whole bunch of stuff that's wrong, and not because we know we we get on all these things.

Lisa is not because of that which they why God said, I will literally throw up because your lukewarm say what what what.

That seems awfully hard to look at me dear friend. Did he not die on the cross for you, did he not die on the cross for me. Did he not go through unimaginable suffering that nobody has ever gone through that he not lay in the grave three days and then because of his power because he is God because he was a perfect Savior and a perfect lamp that he not defeat death rays from the great after three days that he not ascend back in heaven. And right now is preparing a place for us.

Surely we would have something to be passionate about coming up that doesn't do it. What else can we come up with. I mean we have to put on a concert every service for people to get excited. I mean we have to have a little song and dance. Everything we do to get people passionate, pleasantly dear friend Jesus has already done it, he's done enough if we would just get our passion back so there's people out there that need something different to me.

They just want neighbors who singled to the motions that go to go to Shriners club flat lingo anywhere for that they go to Weight Watchers for that and lose some weight, less.it's a sad day when people are more excited about a Weight Watchers meeting the church and am excited about a Weight Watchers waiting to go but cannot tell you we got more to be excited about here. God said this is what I think about your spiritual state. I don't want any part of it. I literally want to throw it up. You know why look at me dear friend, because it's fake church that gets lukewarm for long.

They start going to the motions, and a church that starts going through the motions before long becomes fake.

Look at me dear friend I know I haven't been your pastor very long, but there's one thing I absolutely can't stand. I think you know and that's fake.

Now there might be times that you know maybe just too blunt and too honest and you know I everybody always picks on me to be more polished now to be. This was the only thing I know how to be, as Daniel Autry. That's all I know how to be loaded say.

What I cannot deal with is Christians that act like they're above someone else and are going to these motions, the church and they live a different way at home. I'd rather you just be honest again.

I say this that that is not going to do one thing for this world because they see hypocrisy every day of their life. But what they ought to see is that somebody goes to work, lives in the neighborhood.

Whatever the case might be, and loves him and had some compassion but they say something different and there's something consistent and that person loves church can't wait to talk about church can't wait to talk about what God is done they need to say something different.

I have a feeling this is going over like a lead balloon. Be honest with you patiently.

You talk about you talk I had had a friend of mine text me this afternoon in a text back at them almost in tears as I felt more like a failure today because it's hard to preach.

Sometimes the things God has laid on your heart and you thing about is getting mad and feels good to get hurt in all these different things list to me dear friend I have no choice but to tell you exactly what God's way to my heart and I believe we got a wonderful church here and we've got the most precious giving people I've ever met, but cannot tell you something were all in danger just like this church Leo to see if fellow start going through the motions. I will get up fencing the same old songs and will stand up in the choir and sing the same way. I will go this is shake hands at welcome visitors and before long we've gone to church back in our car gone home and done nothing more than waste our time and dear friend, that's nobody's fault but ours want you to notice. Fourthly, God's cause. God is and the reason this happened. We give you whatever, 17 because thou sayest when he because he said let me tell you something I would almost rather regurgitate because you're not hot and you're not cold. Here's why it happened. Look were 70, because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing. This is why they got to this place first number one prosperity. They were just too blessed. He said because you said, I'm rich. I don't need God anymore and I think you cannot say something will absolutely change her will Baptist Church you know what would make a bunch of us get real serious about serving God you let things change in our state within a week and now it's against the wall to even worship or be in a church you let someone in, then that's where the cream rises to the top. That's were you separate the serious and the nonserious and undertakes him it would get back to what we will start sacrifice and being thankful just have freedom to worship, but we have been so blessed that he said you got the point.

Say I'm rich and that has done nothing but cause it to be lukewarm so you thing he says is increased with goods, materialistic said is going to the point there were more about what kind of car you drive and then what the preachers preach on a church I've never seen the likes of it is that we are so obsessed with things and it's get to the point that we can't even sit in church and listen to a sermon for more than 10 minutes without thinking about everything else under the sun because a word about this and about to get bears and how to get money for that and we become such materialistic people in this country, but I'm afraid I can sit right here: Baptist Church because we been so prosperous because God's been so good because we have so many things that we can get lukewarm about serving God different.

It can happen there thing he said is self-sufficient. He said this, he said he he say I'm rich increase with goods notice this and have need of nothing, self-sufficient. I don't need anybody for anything. Now got all not really need you know God's wonderful and I love him but got every thing I need to take some different you. You let your world end and the bottom dropped out of our little buckets of stuff, take something were to love God a different way and I would hate to have to see God judge America take away every freedom we have in every blessing we have in every good thing that he's been given. I'd hate to see God have to do that to get our attention, but I'm afraid it might just take that God's cause. He said this is why prosperity, materialism, self-sufficiency, member who is talking to your post got me a lot talk some visitors just came in to the church just visited for the day he's talking to the church what to do notice for Thuy God's conclusion with over 17 because thou says I'm rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing. You think you're rich, you think your increase with goods you think you have need of nothing but what really is the case you have fooled your cell because really you are foolish. Say what you mean there foolish look at me, though they were proud of themselves. They were pitied by others God's like you're proud of yourself but I have to have pity on you ever seen somebody that really father there. It and you knew they were looking to fold in the bush around thinking there Mr. big stuff you know members in a video clip I made a video for teens. One time, and it showed a guy in a bike race.

You know it is like me you went like this and when I got wiped out while you try to get back on his bike that sick place, right through the finish line. It look like an idiot in the you know I because he thought I had it I haven't made, but he didn't and that's what God says.

A lot of times you think you're rich and you think you've increase with goods, and you think you're okay without me and you think you don't need me anymore, but your foolish that's what you think. But you fools yourself, Baptist Church organic we've gotten benefit one forgot something, he says, is your wretched that word means of low estate. He says you think you're up here, but you're really down here know the Bible says.

The Bible says the first shall be last.

The last shall be first, you think you're up here. Of limitation we are at down here rich low estate I was preaching in Tallahassee, Florida some years back, and a man came up to mappers and I was preaching along the lines of humility this thing of thinking your appearance and really were worried we were where we are as were down there he got to me and the couple this year.

Years ago, but he said preachers if you don't mind. He said limitation about my dad's and my dad pastored a church in the mountains of West Virginia for years. He said he's home to be with the Lord now.

He said that he never had a college education never even finished high school he just went up in those mountains and but he just serve God and man God used them to build a church and he said we had this young man that came up and through our church and one to be a preacher and he went to Bible college and he said my my dad loved them and did stuff form, encourage them and tried to teach him, and spent time with them and he said this young man went away to Bible college love my dad to death. He said when he went to Bible college.

He found out how you're supposed to do things and how you pronounce certain words and he got all of a sudden he got him some education and we get educational outcomes, it makes you, look down on those that don't have education and he said one Christmas he came home from college. He been there about three years and he said this young man is that we had heard through the grapevine is criticize my dad. My dad did know how to outline a certain way and did know how to pronounce her people's names in the Bible. He was just almost making fun of a monkey some country bumpkin and he said we have one service and I that young man came into my dad was just so humble and kind. He said that my dad got up and when he saw that young men the Bakke support so good to have so-and-so here and he said just glad to have you home from college. He said listen is it. Would you be willing to come up and and and preached and I know you been studying for the ministry and he said would you what would you be willing to got preaching that you message sure I'll be glad to and he said, as I said there. He said I was younger than this boy said I was still living at home. He said, but I just couldn't stand that kid because I heard and do nothing to criticize my dad and yet my dad at his humility had him come up and preached and he said that young man got up out of the back.

You had his shoulders back at this little walk and said that more you can just tell he was thinking he was thinking. You know what this is now my chance to show these people how an educated man preach is my chance to let these people know this how a real real preacher does. And this is how study and education. Does it and he said that young man got up.

What a wonderful job they were so proud of this young man said let's take an offering for him tonight is that I thought that what you taken often for him. So we took and offering people gave money to help him with his college bill.

He said I was in there in the scene that young men just Tilson seems that a few people can bias a good job. You know that most people did not boy to sit in the front pew. Is it said people had gone.

He said my dad and his tenderness just came down a set net pew by that young man got his arm hit him on the need, said is a good job today only as a cop had tears in his eyes and he said I just don't know what happened and he said my dad looked at that one said this son, if you had gone up to that Pope with the way you came down you would've come down the way you went up with a seven dear friend, you and I sometimes think were up here. We think were better than anybody else. We think because were cleaned up and smell decent man you know we don't look like thugs and all the stuff we think we think were better and when we think were above and boy have we fooled ourselves. Boy are we foolish because were wretched. We are nothing but a bunch of sinners that have been saved through the wonderful grace of God, God said we tell you what you are. You think you're rich, you think you're wealthy you think you're good on your own but you are foolish you are wretched, he uses 1/3 word here, miserable know what that means in the in the Hebrew is a connotation of lack of peace cannot tell you something you might have everything there is. But if you don't have peace when you go to bed at night you a got nothing.

Excuse the expression God as I'll care what you do want to tell you who you got full. If you don't have peace when you lay down and I have nothing says they're miserable for thing he says is your poor white minute. They thought they were rich but they were actually poor they thought they were good but really they didn't have anything.
