Everybody listening across North America as we come to you live from the rocket mortgage Studios. If you need to know what it takes for home to fit your budget and your family. Rocket can I get started 10 PM Eastern, 7 PM Pacific. Obviously, we've already started to discuss Thursday night football with the Cincinnati Bengals beat Miami tonight in Cincinnati. The final score 2750. We talked about our judge. We talked about Brett Favre. We talked about Miles Garrett and the big news outside of the football game tonight was the fact that's what's on the below habit. Exit the game in the second quarter with head and neck injuries.

They have the cart. This man off of the field, put them on a structure put them into an ambulance took him straight to the hospital in about 30 minutes ago. We found out that he's good enough to fly home. He's been discharged. He will be good enough to fly home to Miami with the dolphins. This is the same to its envelope this past Sunday and taking on the Buffalo Bills. We saw in his head. He landed on his back. His head bounced off of the field, stumbled on his way back into the huddle, he was cleared to participate in the game afterwords. The dolphin said it was his back, and so on. The span of what five days to its envelope. We watched his head bounced off the field like a basketball in the hip tonight just just absolutely written secularists. This the hip tonight that drove him into the ground was almost like you we was grabbed by the waist think it was Joe two particles is who grabbed her he was grabbed by the waist on a sack and he was just, slung down like a slingshot like he was being super last this there was it was bad. It was awful matter-of-fact years see is what it sounded like courtesy of the dolphins radio network knows Jon Stewart will not show the way that still a big as do 6 foot four, 340 pounds, not necessarily the guy you want it all just moving you around like a sack of potatoes and that's that's where to its envelope went so last hour we actually had Dr. David shall join us is a former team physician for the Chargers to share with you some of his comments and will do that briefly. I have to get to the portion of the game. I know there's a lot of concern about to its envelope and whether or not he should have even played tonight.

You know what the actual processes. These are some the questions I asked Dr. David shall, on the football side of things. The game was it was okay.

It was all right, but the entire second half was just like to watch like what's going on with Sue. There were conversations about you know the transparency of the Amazon broadcasting whether or not they were going to mention it, I'm obviously here on the radio I cannot hear the broadcast.

But I believe that Al Michaels and Kirk Herb Street dated you would deeper dive into to his injury, or even mention like the full concussion until the fourth quarter. Richard Sherman, who now works for Amazon and for years he's talked about Thursday night football being a poop fast and how he's hated the idea of playing on Sunday and automatically turning around and playing on Thursday so there's a lot of criticism flying around a lot of blame some of it is your typical let's yell at somebody because it's social media and will get into that on the football side Cincinnati.

They improve their record to two into Miami improves this record will excuse me. Miami falls to three and one no longer undefeated here in the season. We know the dolphins for the most part they had some comebacks.

They've had some near misses.

Are they really are three and 04 note seen probably not. You are who your record says you are, but they it's not like they've been out there just blowing teams away.

So when we got into the second quarter. It was 76 game Cincinnati over Miami.

And then we going so the third quarter. It's your 1412 Cincinnati over Miami.

Teddy Bridgewater comes on and even helps lead the Miami Dolphins to a touchdown he throws a pastor to chase Edmonds and we move into the third quarter. Miami kicks a field goal. They go up 15 to 14 and after that it was just his full steam ahead. You know the Cincinnati Bengals.

They they took control at that point, Joe Borough 59 yard pass to Tia Higgins in the second quarter we movements of the fourth quarter.

It looks like dolphins are going to show some life. Couple of field goals.

Here, there my Cincinnati and then when Miami strong to get back into the game. Von Bell.

He did this, I want you to take a listen courtesy of Cincinnati radio network Bridgewater by 2025 4545 yard line, though with five seconds to go.

And this is basically the finisher Joe Borough.

He was able to connect with Hayden hurst on the past and is pretty much this pretty much put a stamp on the game. Listen her down and goal from the two.

They still have a sex offense of lineman Amber wants to throw all day, but no yes. About the time we went into the second half of the game. The dolphins they didn't muster more than a field-goal in the bangles they score that such down +2 field goals.

They score 13 points in the fourth quarter alone and was pretty much a steamroller. That's it.

All she wrote Cincinnati a Joe Burrell told everybody to relax now thereto into they don't look like a complete joke, especially coming off of the Super Bowl when it comes down to Miami. The dolphins they fall to three and one but all of the concern is a round to Tonga by Laura his head coach. He talked after the game and yell coach Mike McDaniel.

This is the latest update that he gave a scary moment. He was evaluated for and for concussion and he's in the concussion protocol. He was is at the hospital I believe is about to get discharged while he went on to say that just that entire scene was just just very difficult for him to watch that is not part of the deal that anyone signs up for even know you.

You know it's a possibility. In football, the have something they have to get taken off on the stretcher is all of his teammates, myself.

We are all very very concerned I told you in the second half of the game. The dolphins did not muster more than a field-goal know Teddy Bridgewater even in that that that that second quarter immediately after to his injury he help lead them on a touchdown drive they went about 75 yards down the field and said he was able to connect with chase Edmonds and they put a score on the board. It was 1412 Cincinnati led heading into halftime, but they fell flat after that only a field-goal in the second half of the game, and so coach McDaniel. He basically said all hell yeah it was tough.

Of course it was after Chua got hurt. I think a lot of hills so they know me personally. That's you know if I didn't have a job to do for the organization and the rest of the players and I didn't have that that obligation and in my mind I I would have to it's not something that is comfortable for anybody in it was, it was not a situation that you might, for any or players or or your team in general. Scary stuff. I was glad that that worked out. You don't really hear that that's really here when I say that I'm referring to the honesty of if I don't have a job to do. I quit my I'm not interested in coaching his game anymore.

I want to I care about the human being that's out there. And sometimes that's how it feels is a fan when you see these major injuries, and in the case of sorts on the below he's had school of them seemingly in a week. We can paint them as a back injury and say oh it's not as an act or whatever the case may be to God has been hurt seriously twice in one week. This will be a lot of foes giving their opinions. All you should've play dolphins let them play the NFL. Let them play the players Association is let it be known that there going to conduct an investigation as to why he went back into the game why he was allowed to go back into the game this past Sunday and wants as was his back and maybe it was. Maybe this is just a stroke of bad luck the tool Tonga below it exited or didn't exit Sunday's game because it was only a back injury, and that's a night on that sack and it was only is back even though his hands and losing control of his hands in his arms and that moment when he was hit was certainly terrifying. 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS Clinton is calling for Michigan your CBS sports radio I'm very good: what's up. All I got a work so I finally got it tonight and throughout your said it right. It looked like you simply got to quite starting and drove right in the ground and I don't think you should of been playing on Sunday the.

That game out. First of all I think they should give them the night off, even doll yeah the doctor said that one of the night. But look at the long-term, the long-term gain over the short term of winning and being pouring out well.

We know the NFL is a it's a results business we can go ahead and look week to week or game to game. We have Justin Herbert and Keith that we got a lot of guys were her right now. Justin Herbert has been running around with fractured cartilage. He had to put an extra pad around his waist or his ribs's midsection to protect them. He was out in the game in a blowout against the Jaguars this past Sunday and when asked why was he out there why is Justin Herbert still in the game. Even Justin Herbert said I want to leave my guys hanging in. So it's a dog eat dog world in the NFL. You're here today gone tomorrow to Tonga below and knows that he seen it up close and personal with Ryan Fitzpatrick we see Teddy Bridgewater's out there. We know that he is a serviceable quarterback and so it's really not a shock or surprise that that school was out there.

If he was clear what I will but it came time you gotta look out for your help and yet I might talk with Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe and I would like to, and then watching but it knocked out Brady take over the fields always happen. Yeah, it would I get the next man all that I'm out on the Week of the last 30 years but want the court want to swing that yes I understand you're taking a chance if you fit out and not be blinded.

You guys think about your new account. And it felt much can I go I'm actually already making rather than helping yeah absolutely no that's that's the mentality of a lot of NFL players.

It's is as much as they should be thinking about themselves they are thinking about their careers. First, they thinking about their their commitment to their teammates. They thinking about the money which is natural, you know they have a short period of time to go out there and make this life-changing money and they put their bodies on the line to go out there and do it and not tonight was was one of those those reminders hey Clinton I you said your Special Olympics athlete.

Now what you play I played. I started out in 1992 at attractive builder. The following year I became a swimmer. Then I cried all the way from high school I became a softball additional ball speed skating on I've done volleyball I've done that for which that is amazing. JR oh yes, I'm familiar with all the unified sports.

Yes, all unified making public or multiple print. Upgraded it because it people like non-disabilities.

A true chance to one don't wear what deftly but also can make it so that while you're going to school makes it easier to be able to be around people that we both know people with disabilities get looked at a little different. And when you can change that atmosphere by having athletes like that and Paul working without it open felt that Avenue and make it makes our scrollable more for your to be able to do so.

I love it I love it will.

Clinton that's that's lying to my media for the movements or in jail. Yes, a miracle yes please, I'm going to do to you and I want you about Quentin not. I didn't knew years ago local okay no I will go ahead and and and check that out and then you feel free to call me up anytime okay Clinton Lee.

It was a great conversation, great child what you meant you to jail thank you so much.

No doubt about it. Thank you Clinton for calling for Michigan.

Yeah, I mean unified sports is the way to go. Special Olympics.org is the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio you I just mentioned to you, your athletes are trying to NFL athletes.

Specifically, that you want to capitalize on the right now you mention Justin Herbert to you in the game during a blowout got busted up ribs in the cartilage. This is what he had to say early this week on why he still stayed in the game so late? Limiting the loading nimble and quick so didn't want to put on the team. You're lost the game was gone. That's just the mentality is at the mentality of a winner.

Is it a stupid mentality. Granted, you have to be on the team to understand it. Sometimes you gotta know when to just sit down and not just focusing on the now, but the later Justin Herbert is Justin. Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the game to Tonga below this season. Numbers absolutely spectacular, his numbers heading into tonight say that he is one of the best in the game for this season.

We know that could be fleeting to its out of local could be here today and gone tomorrow, especially when your head is bouncing off the ground like nothing. Even Patrick Mahon's prayers up JJ Watt tweeting out please stop showing the replay Julian Edelman showing a heart for two at Tonga. Below are you could be a football player. You could be a Joe Schmoe like me. That was uncomfortable to watch as the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio. Do you believe that the tool should been out there in the first place. Last hour we had a conversation with Dr. David Chow former team physician for the former San Diego Chargers and not you going to hear from him. What is he think about two at Tonga. Below are playing what is he think about Tula being clear will hear that right. On the other side of the break is the JR sport preshow CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio: on the part of long-term care about your health at night when picking and makeshift that my job coldly now with 855-2124 CBS's the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio Thursday night football Cincinnati they go over the Miami Dolphins in Cincinnati. The final score 27 to 15 and the bangles, they hand the Dolphins their first loss of the season. The Dolphins faulted three and one. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals, they improve their record form and owing to start. They are now two and two. We know that the bangles they just went to the Super Bowl this past season where Joe Burrell was treated like a piñata. Tonight they walk away with the victory, and good for them. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins is so much concern about two at Tonga below, as he appears to have suffered a another head injury, potentially, they said this past Sunday. It was his back. Even though we all saw his head bounce off of the tarp and into night we saw him get sacked and we saw him get Sue perplexed into the ground. We saw him get I guess you look like a slingshot got slingshot into the ground and he got structured off of the field. He was taken to the hospital.

He has been discharged.

He's going to fly back with the team and so I guess if we we know anything what to at Tonga below the Terminator is is is he invincible. We know about the hip surgeries is man's hip was torn to shreds. I don't know maybe maybe as a Terminator I don't mean to be a doctor to know you not supposed get hit like that. That much I know. But last hour we actually did talk to a doctor, Dr. David Chow, former head physician for the Chargers. He came through and he spoke with us and when you think about this past Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

He said that, too, had to have been evaluated by the team doctors that he was evaluated by an independent doctor, who was there on the scene. This is now a part of the NFL's concussion protocol and that ultimately they let them play everybody let them play and that it was just a matter of his back. Even though the NFL players Association they they are filing an investigation to figure out is that true this is what Dr. Chow had to say about that injury and he said ultimately to so was the one who said it was his back.

Listen, everyone remember before you worked for Dr. Phil, the one who also said it was my back out golf and convinced him to lie down right who is filing the complaint. If the PA and at the right and they should be able to do so and I'm not taking any sides on this time to say what the process play out and hope will be okay. The first deputy flying home.

We can start the new symptoms. If he doesn't have symptoms going forward, if not impossible for him to play but I guarantee you the NFL going to take a lot of screw. This could they don't want to leave flame fee.

Head injury handle absolutely and so that I has to master this lease to these two injuries which we all witness to two in one week. Less than a week. So what happens next the Dolphins. Their next game is against the New York Jets that does not take place until October 9. Head injuries are tricky. Back injuries are tricky. I asked him like, what's, what's the next steps. What were the last steps that this is what Dr. Chow had to say. Thankfully, one note. Neck injury to check discharged from hospital flying home. Hopefully he clears very quickly from symptoms.

Step four is nothing long-term in step five or six or seven is eventually getting back to playing.

If you choose to and let's leave it up to the medical doctors to his own doctors, insurance agent and family will get involved.

Yeah I would hope so.

Sometimes you gotta protect these guys from themselves. They have so much that they want to prove they have so much money that's on the line. This you get you get one shot at this and also one shot can take you out of it.

855-2124 CBS Shea is called from Colorado. You're the JR sport preshow yet exactly what you all the you know or talk. I want to play every week, no matter what injury and the big thing of value think this is a failure on the PA and FL PA.

I think that your aunt Velpar.

I think that something more should been done after last week injury even looked into more because you know just looking at the replaying when nearing your shaking your hand. It looks like you shake off the cobwebs and nothing was done and now you look at the second injury and you you see the hand immediately go to what happened next is scary that could have been a career ending injury forgot yeah we we don't know. CSI may ask you we know that the NFL players Association at their they are looking into everything that took place on Sunday as to why the tool was allowed to play why he was able to stand again that that the protocol actually get follow, why, why do you blame or say that the NFL PA has failed.

While I do think the short time. From Sunday to Thursday will know they didn't give enough time to truly looking. And maybe they did. Or maybe they didn't and you don't take the time but I just think that they should have been more strong on his behalf because he is a player in his career is on the line and as a PA at the players Association.

They should get up stronger. Tuesday day we need to look into this more because of course she wants to play. He's a competitor who knows what he tried to know he wants to play. He wants to win but they need to step in on be his behalf. Say no. We need to stop this right now. Okay thank you say so close in Colorado when you think about the players Association and their role primarily a lot of that is to try to implement a lot of these rules and in standards and protocols when they when they collectively bargain that happens every what 5 to 7 years and so the protocols that we have in place right now.

They been bargain they may collectively bargain. We know they sign the light.

The latest deal early 2020. Prior to the pandemic like this. There's only so much they can do. They can be an advocate can't force anybody players Association has been very clear and very public in and what has taken place. Even tonight they sent out a tweet hey were doing this were still investigating.

And they come and assess what they're doing 855-2124 CBS Sam is here for Marilyn. You're on the JR sport preshow gadgets and quickly yeah okay real quick. You know, when I stated the first thing that there was that a prayer born and you know gelid whatever name it I can pronounce it. But anyway, I remember Joe Doddridge that you know injury and and how my dad affected me and I would like the players really really you know if I get like it. Everybody cares you know it it's like when when when Joe docker broke his leg half the defense on the Giants were waving at the sideline, helping, helping you know so I will now it is just just felt so bad that I got a night and I looked on the radio at work so you know I'm just now getting off work, but I just thought I just said a prayer for that's all I could do now II hate to hear that kind of thing man yet to sue in the course of the screen. Thank you Tim call for Marilyn sewer has taken a beating in his short in the short time he's been in the NFL. He's taken a beating. He can't throw the long ball. He can't complete a pansy my meaning to an interception seminormal long ball.

He's not durable.

He came into the league with a busted up hit his Wunderlich socked in the minute that he's having success here in the NFL. The minute that they're not looking to replace them, he's just treated like a crash test dummy. Just this week alone against the Buffalo Bills against the bangles and sure yet. So it isn't the biggest guy is he gonna last. I mean, these are questions for down the line you know who wants to think about tule Tonga lower is his durability. When the fact is, it doesn't matter if these biggest Justin Herbert or V's 5 foot 11, 6 feet 61 yeah you ain't supposed to bounce off the ground like that is the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio 855-2124 CBS what are your thoughts on to a being in the game tonight what you think about his return. Are you concerned with what you saw.

It's just luck, you don't have to be a doctor to be concerned. I'm the take your calls.

On the other side you were listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio JR Raven Jan of caller great show. I really like to show your relocation and I think you really objective: now with 855-2124 CBS's the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio Thursday night football. It's a rat. Cincinnati over the Dolphins 27 to 15 I would take more your calls here on tule Tonga, lower the injury that he suffered tonight had to be structured off of the field. After what was another apparent head neck injury. He does go to the hospital. He is discharged he is going to get on the team playing with the dolphins and fly back to Miami earlier this week and what appeared to be a head injury into a stumbling they said it was a back injury, and so we have no idea. No one has the details. The NFL players Association is investigating what took place this past Sunday on that initial hit and the one that we saw tonight was was just as violent, if not more violent. He was basically grabbed by the waist and slammed to the ground like a soup lacks just just watching his head.

He was slung into the ground that's that's the best way I can describe it if you haven't seen it.

It's wasn't pleasant to watch and so I guess this is good news.

The fact that he's get on the team planning going back to Florida and so we have to compensate the that the good with it that he's flying home that he still not in the hospital 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS you know after the game Teddy Bridgewater.

He was able to take over for two immediately led them on a touchdown drive. Later in the game they were unable to muster any points. Just a field-goal Teddy Bridgewater. He said tonight, I will stuff yourself tough loss tonight man and stuff walk away from the game like tonight, especially given the circumstances. 855-2124 CBS Eric is here from Chicago.

You're the JR sport brief. It would sure talk about the neglect and nonnegligent player then when you're not ready. Another mega bakery about compassion and they can declare that nice shiny blue pen to put people in, but you got to Mike who agreed future Hall of Famer mean decorated quarterback in NFL advocating protection quarterback college kid to get shot up to get back in the game because you don't mean Alabama. I mean a guy like that you invite the kid. You don't send them up for you if you were to go to the pros even think that company normal. Got to like you were saying earlier even taken a beating this short-lived career. Now he finally got the ball rolling.

You got that pressure can only get that pressure performs the wobbling couple days ago and now look what happened know that benefit is not protecting the players and I go back to Rod Taylor but no simple doctor another injection led the punctured lung said that he usually charges for what happened to him, but I don't think the NFL is doing a good enough job protect the players. Well thank you Axel call Chicago when half-day I mean the nature and this is this is why we we always have situations where the players want an independent physician they want to have their own doctor, and this is why even in the case of of concussion protocol you have.

You now have an independent doctor on the sidelines because the NFL doctors work for the teams they work for the NFL. Like, what's the goal to make sure that you are healthy enough to go out there and play you got a foot injury. Can you make it worse know you can't is going to hurt a lot, yet is so much as give you a shot just give everybody a shot give everybody a pill go out there and play Lewis caller from Rochester you on the JR sport preshow hi JR, I need to make a point on the arm to feel really bad for him.

At first I thought the same year that it was concussion related based on how stumbled a couple times in Sunday's game and then tonight and similar, but I think that man from Chicago called earlier that equated like it, injury to spinal cord stuff have the merit I think that you may not have been lying about it back on an earlier hit in the game against Bill and I heard that I had that been the bill span.

I saw Aaron Williams having to leave the game and retire because of spinal narrowing the same thing with Derek Burroughs who was both great players actually defensive backs cornerbacks they have to do the that that's more than concussion related for him because autumn could be held yeah sure spinal spinal stenosis narrowing of the spot. Yes yes correct week because there is more neurological than concussion related well know it is that is that is that is a possibility but he is a thing moving. Thank you for calling from Rochester the brain, the spine the back. You don't have to be James Winston's info how the body works. It's all connected and so whether or not to have a concussion.

Whether it's a back injury, whether it's his neck. Okay, sure, fine, you ain't supposed to get hit like that and it's it's it's a part of the game is the nature of the game you play the game, you're going to get hit, you play the game you going to get hurt. You going to be injured.

You all of this you play long enough to have long-lasting effects later into your life is just the facts. Nobody wants to see anybody get hit like that and so you two was on the plane you would he think he's feeling great right now Jim is called from Georgia your CBS sports radio well every doctor and everybody did their homework invented and everything is going killing yes ultimately it's up to him is like Kirk Gibson that when he had the hip injury in the Navy in his ankle and then he was cleared to play when there's a cycle is different after the party will June. Jim is no. There is a difference between baseball and the NFL. Okay this is a massive difference between baseball and the NFL. The last time I looked you know baseball players are going out there being tackled by anybody. You can say that it's ultimately up to him and that's true he has a say.

We use the example of Justin Herbert participating in a blowout earlier this week and Justin. Herbert said yeah I want I want to let my teammates down well y'all again yo ass what the owner losing the game is in the can coach Staley can say get done. It's really that simple when you fall on the respect order will where you form on the pecking order and so yes athletes have a say as to whether or not they play in the NFL. I think we all know this.

This is this is quite apparent. Players are replaceable to the teams have an investment in players yes they do. Before all things considered, the Dolphins ain't thinking to its envelope was going be out there forever. They don't think any of their players in very few players that anybody runs around and says all they can't be replaced.

Anybody can ensure year 201 out there but that's not to say, and this is why the players Association is investigating it simple did every box get checked for two to go back out there because if he did suffer an injury, whether it's to his back with his brain out to his neck was every box checked for him to go play because if he wasn't supposed to be out there then even if Tewell wanted to play. He wouldn't have been allowed to Jim that doesn't have a damn thing to do work Kirk Gibson run around what a bum leg they hit a homerun. Okay the JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio 855-2124 CBS. That's 855-2124 CBS to get some more your calls to hear from Joe Burrell on the other side of the break.
