You are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio you're listening to your support on CBS radio and we are coming to you live from the rocket mortgage Studios what you're looking to purchase a new home or refinance yours.

Rocket mortgage can help you get there for home loan solutions that fit your life. It is also simple rocket can I can and will be here with you for the next four hours. I'm be enjoyed by super producer and host Dave Shepherd and dammit we just don't have a good time is a lot to talk about. Obviously this a Thursday night football game going on right now, Kansas City Chiefs pulse, the Los Angeles Chargers and right now the Chiefs are losing 17 to 7 and is literally a play under review right now is Patrick Ma Holmes might have thrown an interception while an acrobatic INC by one of the charges end up with the ball and so obviously when the game concludes talk about it will give you all the facts will give you all the details first.

After the game almost put me to sleep. Who would've thought the Chargers and she's giving you some type of offensive or defensive battle to start the game but it was is pretty dry and so let's see how things pick up here in the second half as we have already seen the Chargers come through with the score. I repeat, they currently lead 17 to 7 its third-quarter and at touchdown. Excuse me, that interception, not counting hit the ground doesn't counsel the Chiefs maintain control of the football on their own side of the field will keep you up to date there. We had a legend retire in the world of sports Roger Fetter or has stepped away from the game of tennis.

He's gonna play his own tournament that he created a few years ago and that's it. 41 years old, multiple knee surgeries.

He's done little talk about Roger Fetter's influence on Santa's and what this means for the remaining male crop of players we told you yesterday that Serena Williams on good morning America. She left the door ajar for return to the world of tennis.

We hear every day a new story about Tom Brady and and just his football mortality and then how his wife and family feels about him playing football. Jamaal Adams is out for the year. Is this just a lot going on. If you want to talk to me here.

While I morning of the numbers 855-2124 CBS. That's 8552124C BS more social media that's twitter, Facebook and Instagram at JR sport brief, so that's at JR sport brief everywhere before we move on and get things kicked off Shep, how are you man you doing good no complaints. JR wish we had a little better second half year, but valid little we get that none remaining 20 minutes.

This game it's still early. Yes, it's still early. It these type of games when you get to quarterbacks out there. Ma Holmes and Herbert, two of the best in the game. You know there's an expectation that the score is going to be through the roof and we haven't seen that. Not yet, not yet. And so this is still plenty of time.

I'm still coming to a realization that this game Thursday night football is being broadcast on Amazon like you have to have Amazon and I believe Amazon prime in order to watch this game and it's it's making me go and I see a lot of memes and tweets about it. You know people are saying hey my dad is asking me how I can watch the football game and people are going what's Amazon prime and how do I get Amazon prime and this is just a new space that where in where we have Apple TV and we have Amazon and I don't think I'm missing anything.

Those of probably the biggest two streamers new to the world of sports that they got games on. It's not like hey here's foxy is ESPN. He is CBS Amazon. I turned on the game and I had to say to myself. It was only not alone 10 years ago, Amazon was selling books and that was their entry point. They went from selling books to sell in that tablet went from tablets to send and stuff the house and every time I see an Amazon truck him like where's UPS all there. They are not big as Amazon. It's crazy. Shep what the hell was Amazon 15 years ago. What was it Irene apology by the way me and what that the chief just go to ELS just now it's it's going to be 1714 but when we got a lot more game yet when you would listen. I mean I know he's not running things you not run the show anymore. But when you have the pockets and you that deep with those pockets. As Amazon is you understand football it is virtually King in this country and we are have relative unit on the coast into that some of the things that JR, when you do you know it's I'm not surprised that Amazon's doing stuff like this in my life I would be shocked if I know one day, you know, we see Facebook do some I guess really have NFL rights to some games are all home about that. I do their little behind the eight ball when it comes to his deal matter as it's now called and Facebook and Instagram in the world of digital little long in the tooth. They think they got money the audience and users are getting a little older and there they're not as advanced actually. They complain about the money that they're losing so it will not be surprised if Facebook is streaming in the future, not not at all, but I have no idea. None. What is Amazon. Do you remember what Amazon was like 10+ years ago with a high caliber luxury packaging service but before, not even it was that was like hey, here's a here's a e-book like you you it's no different than Apple. Apple's entryway answered taken over the dam world was at his will. Obviously McIntosh humming that goes back 30+ years, but it's like, hey is not part is a phone. Oh, here's all the software for the phone. Okay and it just grew from there.

Now Apple TV.

Apple TV has rights to games and it's like if Amazon is going to deliver packages to my house I can order I can order a Roku and have it by the time I leave the studio.

I can sit down and watch the game here in the studio on Amazon.

I can have food delivered to that how it's it's crazy it really is. And so as the sports world continues to go like what we have to wait 20 years until the Super Bowl. Amazon get streaming rights to the Super Bowl. It's it's crazy and I know there are people who don't like it there. People who say all well,, watch the game in the game is on too many platforms and I know for baseball. You can watch a baseball game on Turner Fox Apple TV.

ESPN still does Sunday night baseball but CBS at CBS I guess ANSI and CT PS I believe this just as so many platforms and is the thing that really sucks you have to pay for more. Shep, you gotta pay for each one of these services individually.

It's it's it's kind of crazy because when you look back at the last two years of American society. Nobody and I mean nobody benefited more from the pandemic than Amazon or Miami home profit in three months. In the first three months, 20, 21, JR sort up to 220%, which is also the same thing as nearly 10 million billion dollars in three months you damn right they jump in the NFL game. Look at how well they made out in those first three months at 121 that they were ahead of the game because of that they lucked out there paying the NFL $1 billion plus over the next 11 years to broadcast Thursday night football. They may 10 times that in a span of three months when when when every other big entity in America and I should say the world was losing money so I if you if you if you Amazon you are working with. You are working with house money away didn't know other big corporation has been able to do so last two years they've been very lucky every body stuck in a house whether they need. I need a computer but I can't go outside and get one because Best Buy's close Amazon click yes and cleaning supplies sent to my house well and not going into the store. I don't want covert Amazon Amazon will deliver groceries to your house. This man, you never have to think is a lot of people learned that I think a lot of people still subscribe to this you have to go outside you can have everything delivered to your house just crazy.

I have Amazon prime. I don't know how much it costs more. My Woodlake taken $15 for me so I can have a box delivered to my house once a month and I'll know so I can watch Thursday night football and an apple is taken money from me and man major league baseball has a streaming deal. The NFL has a streaming deal. I will think the NBA has one.

I don't believe so. Guess they going to be next to go ahead and have one of these these deals. This is the one thing I don't like about streaming's the latency.

It's the delay that's one thing.

And I'm that this sounds even while to say, 00 cable back in a day cable.

Everything was on the same just timeline same frequency is like which streaming there's there's always a delay in the quality craps out a little sooner. I don't know someone who is tech worthy might disagree with me but a coaxial cable seemed a little bit more stable than running with these things are ethernet fiber-optic cables.

So I just I gotta get used to it. $15 a month for this $10 a month for that as long as the game still come onto the television screen on I'm okay with it and for people who happen to be older. I know that they're not happy with it because they don't they don't give a damn about Amazon prime want to watch a baseball game through Apple TV.

I have Apple products and not in the one when the apple season or the baseball season started, not.

I didn't know if I was going to be able watch sometimes is so much nuance in so many intricacies to watching a game more using a product.

Sometimes I'm shocked when I I call Apple for support and assistance and they don't charge me for talking to a service rep welcome to the New World Swiss sports is where it's going is not just the big three big four networks that week we got a deal which streaming Amazon Apple. Shep mentioned it, Facebook and and who knows and another 10 years there'll be another product that no one is ever heard of. That's just pushing the limits as to what we watch and how we watch if your sports fan.

This is also the reality you don't have a choice you want to watch the game, you better get that at you better pay for. I just hope that the quality improves somebody's delays drive me nuts.

The JR sport re-show here with you on CBS sports radio. We are here and we are streaming in broadcasting all over the airwaves on the free Odyssey at Sirius XM 158 on your local affiliate and so smart speakers, many of them which are being distributed by Google and Alexa another Amazon product hey Shep, David, Amazon is doing everything right. It is going be like Terminator of man will have a better ending in at the end of Terminator didn't. The human stopped the robots while he gave up acting to become governor of going a different direction without on almost wasn't yes or you still here with us right you very much. So yeah I'm he's in like I think every Sylvester Stallone movie these days all well the way you question what you make of what you make of Amazon taking NBC sloppy seconds wall. Now Michael yes all did you just call 80 something-year-old commands every 8077 noise not yeah I know, I thought he was older to his been doing for so long.

Any called miracle 42 years ago for God sakes. What do I think about how important essay asked me a question again. Maybe the slop was a little too harsh.

What you think of NVC taking I should say would you sit would you believe Amazon taking NBC's basically right sloppy seconds because NBC basically said yet we don't think you're good enough for a modern-day audience will go with Michael instead and and and then as analysts go with someone that you know Weston college for last 25 years.

Kirk Herb Street yes or you know what I'm answer that. On the other side of the break.

Speaking of two old I'll answer your question about Al Michaels is the saddle out Michael's and Kirk Herb Street yes or yeah I'll answer that on the other side of the break will talk about the announcers and then want to talk you about Roger Fetter because he's also our older and unfortunately he's also also done some JR sport re-show here with you on CBS sports radio.

Oh, and charges lead the Chiefs 1714. We'll talk about it though move you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio. JR wants to do call him know at 855-2124 CBS.

That's 855-212-4227 the JR sport re-show here with you on CBS sports radio Thursday night football is going down to Kansas City right now arrowhead Stadium. The Chargers they lead about 2 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter of the 17 to 14 I would go out there we go to Kansas City Chiefs up the ball there trying to get some more points on the board unity to tie the game. Moreover, take the lead going down the field will keep you updated on this Thursday night football matchup super producer Dave Sheppard asked me prior to the break about the announcing team, which happens to be out.

Michael's and Kirk Herb Street yeah college and Al Michaels, formally of of NVC matchup. I've said this many times on several occasions, not not really not really a fan of of listening to anybody or broadcast know how I'll have it on here were there, I might have one music I might have it on mute. It doesn't do anything for me this is Amazon's first go around like what will they supposed to do.

No idea in terms of what you're asking what they're supposed to do and try know you don't typically you will pay to Ellis's Vince call you don't really pay attention to love the broadcasting I get that but I do not listen when I don't have no preference unless someone is like QB Brown. You know, yeah, I think he put you fast asleep. No JR, I just think that if if you're out Michael's like the writings on the wall right like you or your legend and NBC still said when I can keep you that my understanding when I can keep you in any capacity, and so Amazon thanks there trying to you know really bring in the new audience with streaming and all that an Amazon is is is. It is not even a millennial thing. It's a generation the thing these days and this is the guy you have is your number one you know play-by-play guy. Do the listeners care that much. Their familiar army out. Michael's is therefore reason is because whether or not your your ancient or whether you just found out what a broadcaster is right, whether you know it or not, you know, when you're familiar and you trust the voice of our Michael's and so he adds validity to the program. Yeah, I hear that but but but is it his time as is times past that's that's like for example there are. There's a thousand other guys you can put in this situation before you put out Michael's likely think about her heartrate whose it seems like a great guy was one of our house.

They would get all that but he's calling NFL games now. Not only did this people that awaited yes decades to be in that spot to be a number one guy on Thursday night. On Monday night, etc. and you will apologize. It's a slap in the face to the 50 guys that should be doing this instead. While foot familiarity goes a long way and obviously they're going to have to hit the switch at some point in time, knowing that yeah Al Michaels is he's on these on the older side, but he is he is a legend.

It's indicative yeah sure that NBC didn't want him but we know that Mike to Rico was basically being groomed and and put in that spot. Anyway, I actually told this to someone earlier tonight in the evening.

I said that I'm even really notice the difference on on Sunday Night Football that Chris Collinsworth was paired up with Mike to Rico because I feel like over the past few years and maybe it's a matter of illness or day off. It just it just seems normal. It's normal to hear Mike to Rico, it's normal to hear Chris Collinsworth and so the combination of the two did not not feel any any type of different Jamie scholar from Tampa your CBS sports radio what's up Jamie hi Don JR, I'm doing very well thank you what's on your mind to make make it out. Michael's I love the new year. The legacy and a history with the broadcast bite whack whack I had paper Amazon prime to accept or deny football when I can turn my radio and get it for free. You feel me on that day. Most most people who have the option of visualizing the sport would probably prefer to watch it and listen to what I get. Maybe that's because I'm visually impaired know I did like I get with promoted by listening to it. Okay but I would I would explain things. Yes, right now now now Kirk Kirk Street. I mean he could do NFL, but it can't.

I mean now. I mean, my favorite perfect wallet Al Michaels and Chris call Chris: okay yes Sunday Night Football yes Friday directly and to bed and I don't want you couldn't read you everything frankly mean that Amazon prime. Why not get put it on a network like you know NBC or Fox or what have you a bead of hook up an attendant get it get it that way. Well, that's it slow. This is how this this works so in the case of Chris Collinsworth.

He is still under contract with NBC and rhino might now Mike Al Michaels was not so that's why you don't have a Chris Collinsworth joining Al Michaels here and when it comes to sports rights in the broadcasting of it you know we we do have the NFL spread out just everywhere.

NFC typically is the home to Fox AFC CBS. Here's the deal when you're sports league. All of these these television networks, and now the streaming companies they bid. It's like it's like going to an auction the rights the rights are valuable and so you can only go quote" where you are wanted and where the money is and so why is the NFL on Amazon why is Maj. league baseball on Apple because these these these sports leagues no ultimately one day sooner than later. The time starting now that they have to stream that's it. And the second thing is if you are Amazon and you are saying we want to pay you, you know, $500 million more per year to broadcast these gains. Anybody else it's a business move you want take the money and so that's what it is money talk yet does Jamie upload it to you this way if you had $5 billion to give the NFL a year and you have the capacity of broadcasting their games. The NFL would say Jamie were going to sign up for your network, you get Thursday night football so right that that's how that's how it goes in her yeah I mean Amber died and if you looking in.

Jamie will pay you $500 million put it on your network and the and their pain may be Fox or whatever, $10 million dollar loan on a number of the networks number the networks pay the leagues okay okay I'm I got I got I got mixed up there so let me let me break it down see another way, you will know why we have athletes right now making 40 million $50 million a year like Aaron Rodgers it's because Amazon is paying the NFL. It's because Fox is paying the NFL. It's because CBS is paying the NFL and the not paying them pennies there paying them billions of dollars. And so you add all that money out and you start looking at the $20 billion pie that the NFL is bringing in in revenue and you say here's $20 billion.

How do we split this cash up while we have to give some of it to the players we have to give some of it to the owners and you think about the salaries and the salary Salary caps go up in accordance to revenue the more money that the leagues in the sports make the more money that the accountant sit down and say this is the allowable budget. This is the salary cap for this given year and when the salary cap goes up, so do the players salaries and so now it's out big money here not yell on the night football.

We have now impeached by now all we all be now making out Monday night football and the whole bowl gauntlet again well and think we might who knows if you give it.

Look, it's a while world.

I can't predict the future but I can tell you about as much as the work the way things are going give it another 20 years, that there won't be cable okay.

Everything to a certain degree will probably just be streaming into your house. You know it won't won't be here's your cable box is Apple TV. Here's a Roku. Everything will will probably be through some type of streaming service and so yet we we have Sunday Night Football on NBC properties Peacock is an NBC property belongs to NBC Universal Monday you have ESPN which is obviously Disney Thursday. You now have Amazon and we all might as well get used to it.

Jane yes just the way things are going there appreciate the primary goblet to you as well shut us to Jamie for: from Tampa, Florida. Yet it's that's Outlook thing will be no cable boxes though that out the window. Let's think about this DirecTV is already in the space where it goes. We got a stream why because a nobody angling to run around and get a satellite dish liked like years past. I remember in the 90s. I remember put in a satellite dish up on my roof man wouldn't experience that was. I think for most people, unless you live in a particular area where that is still the way, are you the best way to get television. Not everybody is is set up to be wireless. Not everybody set up to just be streaming before the bulk of people lived in living and in major cities, and major areas in the streaming is just the way things are right now. Welcome to a new world's the JR sport ratio here with you on CBS sports radio 855-2124 CBS speaking of that new world tennis is entering into a new world we got Serena that dipped now. We got Roger better or whose dipping out will talk about Roger on the other side of the break LB the phone lines open for you as well.

Number six all you are listening to the JR sport brief on CBS sports radio. Every day I work all the way home. I love hearing you live in a great state that we coldly know 855-2124 CBS in the great state of Joe great things about Georgia. I love it. Some crazy things to every place has its good and it's bad every place.

No perfect place, but I love it. Speaking of perfect, Justin Herbert even he can be perfect.

Right before we went to break Justin Herbert basically through a pick six Jaelyn Watson defensive back rookie defensive back for the Kansas City Chiefs. He got his hand on a ball right at the goal line taking it 99 yards to pay dirt in with about 8 1/2 minutes left in this game.

Kansas City now leads 24 to 17 and somehow someway.

The Chargers always end up with the short end of the stick and tonight it doesn't appear to be any different. We still have a lot of game left and so will keep you up-to-date. Kansas City leading 24 to 17 855-2124 CBS Justin is here from sac town you're in the JR sport ratio. I would like to go, no matter where you're at, what to get you going. What would that be, and Balearic. I like that you better check your self before you wreck yourself. The matter was not your New Yorker going on now and I like that. Thank you that if I wanted like the conversation you're having with aggrieved are currently working over there viewpoint looking in the like with the marketing and the money on the other side of things, not the people on the field even though everyone contributes now look at the big supply chain will see that you will come in the conversation and getting other side of the amount of the company. No, absolutely. It's a lot of people NFL paying to be on TV. I mean, this is not it's not it's not public access.

It's people want to pay the NFL because sports has such a gigantic value because it's alive it's tribal you know I'm I could think about.

I'm not a big TV guy, but I know most programming. You don't have to watch it live its it streaming as well. Or you can binge watch and it's not like the 80s or 90s or 70s and you have to watch at at nine at headlock yet, and if you miss it you said rude no place in opportunity to think you know I am of the court primary did I have the capital narrowly looking to improve your click we are what we do know so know it in a journey with the continued improvement so they have fired the little things like your talk earlier before they changed it would be here now so there's really no manipulating and changing thing goes with the streaming broadcast is nothing other ride the wave and get out when you're done for your family with that foundation you built over the years with the hard-working line went out say this much. Thank you Justin for calls in Sacramento just basals the founder of Amazon. He was sitting in the box watching the game with Roger Caddell and just basals look like he's having the time of his life, and Roger Caddell looks like he's on punishment, justice, what it is and this is just the beginning and you want to talk about how valuable sports is there used to be a time where you could you could record the game on a VCR. If you are not home and you can actually avoid knowing the score and the results as you didn't have a phone that fed you all of the information was days over the used to be a time. I think still exist for some where you can DVR again, you can record the game. If you can't watch it live so I'm on my way home but I'm not home yet. I got the DVR again this role and I can watch it from the beginning it would even be cool because you can fast forward the commercials well those days are over. Now as well. I remember years ago for the first time being able to watch a sporting event on my phone when I wasn't home game changer. I don't have to rush home. I can watch the game while I'm in transit from my cell when I walk in the house. I can turn off my cell phone, or at least stop watching on my phone and watch the game come on now, this technology is crazy. One of the first things that took place when I turned the game on tonight through Amazon prime and this this is the one thing that sucks about all this streaming is all these options you gotta click this and click that I have just want to watch the game with television or used to be cable you turn it on. Maybe the most thing you saw was that the TV Guide tonight I turn on Amazon from the watch the game and it's just like hey this is a new experiences like you know no bleep justice. Give me a football and then it goes what it asked me like something you can watch this for free. Would Amazon prime line I got Amazon primaries leave me alone is like making those phone calls hey Shep you ever you ever have to call someone customer service and you have to go through what is like an endless loop of press, one for English and you never ever get that you never had the lecture than ever saying you know you can wait for a reasonable amount of time.

This this this occurrence. It's always this particular week. This particular day we are receiving higher than usual.

Call volume has the worst you know they do that on purpose so people hang up. Yeah.

And I can they do that and now they they've gotten smart used to compress like zero a million times take you straight to human being.

Now they stave. Arrange the computers to basically this you you press zero budget Psalms, the computer will tell you.

Sorry I didn't get that and it'll go through the whole stupid ass scrolling press, one it'll take you all the way through nine, and is just like I don't its customer service is torture done done that way and sensually. Oh yeah and now it's automated to where like you going back to the operator every 20 seconds like playing please please standby will assist you momentarily. Thank you for your patience and in like 20 seconds later the same exact thing so so the music dips out you think Mike I'm finally getting a human being. This is this is great. I broke through and that's not the case at all.

It just is just teasing you was not a case last week finally called one of these things.

I got through to a human being human being after like a full explanation of what I was trying to do and what wasn't working, and wise this this way, what's going on. This is a full explanation to a customer service person customer service person earlier in the call goes. This is your cell phone number right I can call you back. Oh yes and okay will okay do you mind, Mr. Jackson, if I put you on hold for a couple of minutes and and figure out why this is this what say you please figure it out. That's fine right so I'm on hold now for five minutes on now yeah of course you and then I hear I hear like someone and it gets clicked and I say wait a minute I want done and so the 30 minutes that I spent trying to get to a human being on hold going through that stupid press one. This meant getting a human right then and explaining in detail to a human. What the issue is then being told to go on hold and I go yes fine figure it out and then I get hung up on man.

I got a lot of hair. I was I was about to pull every strand of it out. Not fair sucks we can make everything stream and do all this and that but coming on down the pipe to customer service. That's that's is something we haven't figured out yet. Everything has to absolutely be a robot sucks Thomas Kohler from Colorado. I don't think he's a robot is a human on the JR sport. Preshow was sometime we are not our robot. Okay good so you know watching it on channel 5 labor Amazon plus actually my wife sat down a couple months ago. Okay are capable was $200 a month.

Whatever it is right you what you want to watch.

What do you want a larger number while I reach for Chinese blah blah blah blah blah. She's like or I want this business, you would've had her sign up for streaming service. Right now, and it was like $100 more than when I'm getting ripped off or cable well is it isn't necessary.

So did you stick with cable. Are you now streaming everything you know know you know what your stay with this for now you know I like watching CBS sports network to give me German they can be on the Air Force and Navy football on Saturdays she likes her. You know, what would she watch hello okay you don't know his wife watches we okay so let me ask you is you have any do you have any streaming platform. Yes, what is you paying for while she got the Amazon prime.

Also you watching you watching the game. Now I'm not all okay. I don't care about the game because it oh well will out something that's a that's a tough one to choose his allies listens on. I gotta get ready for commercial but I appreciate you for calling Colorado.

It I did it not not everybody is a fan of the streaming and it does it adds up. You have to be very selective as to what you want to watch is it because if you plan stream if everything $20 if $15 hear this and that this this and this is $15. Hear men that that money adds up quick.

Is it worth it depends on how much you got your bank account. The JR sport preshow here with you on CBS sports radio 855-2124 CBS.

That's 855-2124 CBS old Justin Herbert is her
