This is good Truth Network the man up will be distributed to him. I'm excited to have this man of God in the studio with me today here on the shelf is just a quick reminder. Real talk with real men with real stories this man is a story I know that for certain. I set listen to him talk stories with a dear friend of mine by the name of Jeffrey Gever about an hour baseball stories, but all that said welcome to the man up, show a thank you Nikita for having blessed to be here.

It's great to have you here and you know we met. I guess a lot of know maybe six or nine months ago. Time flies right but we met because you will get into more of this shortly but we met you said Chelsea transferred moved you made a move out of the that the great state of Texas and came here to the north. The last year as we call it North Carolina part of the truth radio network yes yes sir yeah that's been a while now that reconnect with folks from time to time in radio and in one of those people will be in Stu Epperson Junior I'd worked for his father for 9803 and just picked up the phone one day and called him. I think in September. The prior year. To me, starting in it's like we had skipped a beat and instinct. This new season is really affable, everything personal but we do starting conversations and about what it would tension look like for me to be out here just picked up right where you left off. Right from the from that relationship and their friendship yeah yeah definitely like student hasn't met anybody that's not just either a friend or potential friend right. Obviously this market for no Stu Epperson yeah yeah I like to be around him for about 12 seconds before his arms around the area you've become his best friend. It seems like but yes yeah so interestingly, we were both in our 20s late 20s when you start in the Truth Network and I just have me sit in my destiny called me today that my first big potential regional body from a blue Yemeni ideas, and I don't know how much I added to with him or whatever that time, but it's interesting to come out here and and the blue is an account currently and has been for many years and I just wanted be helpful here to serve the greatest purpose, or which is bring as many people into the kingdom. Let them know about our Savior, Jesus Christ, and in a course we get the privilege of doing that it were going to get more into that will we get the printer to do that through radio through podcasting and for those who don't know, to the blue is a water a very high level, water purification company produces sent for the record, great tasting water to serve the real deal is the real deal. I know they've been big supporters of the truth radio network. But before we get there. Let's back up a little bit and I talked about your sports hit you in your ear, your MAC no history of of sports knowledge but but also about David Mamet to be a you report a race in Texas to you I'm born in Omaha, Nebraska.

Okay, my dad got a transfer at the age of one for me and so we as a family moved cornhusker yes or guide the big red right so we have moved to Dallas and yeah that was the beginning of being in Dallas and I'm up for the most part everybody still in the Dallas or Dallas area. Your fans all your family yes her other sisters actually three sisters no brothers and brothers in Christ you be in 10, okay, and enjoyed getting to know you and course Robbie Gilmore who is producing the show as we talk together but but yeah just always want to go where God leads and in I think it in a Matthew versus go there for baptizing and then the verse won't quote it, but you know he sends a helper right was a mission yeah yeah but yeah Holy Spirit guide you in all things select parade and in and out here and it's been a real blessing.

This is real team in the family with them very focused purpose in mind. So it's been blessing.

As mentioned, Omaha, Nebraska swim a bit of a connection there. Just so you know you may not know this about me but my dad was raised in Holdridge Nebraska which is just outside Omaha.

Huge cornhusker fan. His entire life.

For me, lived to be 90 to love the Cornhuskers met anytime I went over south on the Saturday if they were playing and on television. It was on his television set the Cornhuskers right in and actually at one point and entertain. I did entertain the idea of playing college football for the Cornhuskers.

No never actually materialize because I didn't realize some of my senior year in high school. Yeah, she had have grades to get it if I my athletic ability would give me an you know so therefore had to go off to Jew COBOL first junior college and then transferred to a smaller division college where it had just a incredible college football career. So even though I did make it down in it, but we played a Nebraska team Carney stay for youth know you. S.

And yes, sir. Okay. So yeah we play play Carney stated a couple times and in the course repeat them just for the record, but just want to make make mention of that. Okay so so you see, has moved to Dallas and did you play sports yeah play baseball in college plated small NAIA school and then transfer my junior year to the University of Texas is great experience.

There is 57 total players and fall ball 38 of my believer so there invited house uninvited walk on okay. My dad and myself got to meet the coaching staff. Other than that, and head coach Gustafson wasn't there at the time was interesting about that fall is that you look around you don't think a lot of it then that we had Scott Bryant playing right field. He made it pretty high in the minor leagues, double AAA, but Shane Reynolds went on the pitch.

The major leagues and and I got the last date guys didn't make it, but they actually finished second the nation at your Wichita State and the gentleman by the name Kevin paid you iPad a friendship with business law. He was the backup second baseman backup middle and of infielder you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. If you would like to support Cola for Christ ministries.

For a gift of $25.

The keel was seen as seedy adoration declaration for a gift of $50. The cuboid is wrestling with this test for a gift of $100 more will include a signed copy of his newly updated life tale of the brain.a lot.donate today. There have been a competent August.yet you lady amazing lineup of speakers, including the All-Star how would our life in general. Boykin David Jason that of the better brothers like shelving three. Dr. Rick Joyner, and Yours truly. Register today to start.com you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com basically and I was a shortstop. We're competing against each other, and he ended the MCA sees that your by striking out 5 to 3 coaches.

Thousands of them up to pitch it jokingly asked the Dallas we come up with a couple friends minor civil I could've done that you not struck out right when I cut Kevin's easy easy good guy and he is a great player so he deserved applicability. When did you know how how young were you when you are acclimated to sports or thought, yeah I'll I want to play baseball how young so interestingly my mom is one he threw me BP in the backyard which is a plastic ball on plastic that okay still have some pictures now three years old or so and then as I got a little older, my dad with Romanian and just try to say focus I would say that we don't leave the backyard and target 16 adequately strikes right. He's pretty tough customer. We can call it a strike and not size. Primarily a picture is a little kid and then like anything else you put your mind, heart and soul and the something you work hard at it I became a better hitter and so played shortstop in college many moons ago so that and then played some men senior league type stuff after that. So I try so I tried baseball's cup Babe Ruth league they have in Texas. The Babe Ruth league. You know you have a room I think. Yeah things, 14, 15-year-olds of hamstring Babe Ruth league so I thought I was passed I became a passion for football at age 12-ish seventh grade-ish and thought well you're pretty decent that the big league baseball crack the world. It's I played that one year absolutely was scared to death of the curveball like for like. I hated the curveball and so true story.

I taught myself to switch hits. I became a switch hitter, so gets every left-handed pitcher like yourself, or you probably right handed.

I slammed the switch hitter as well. Starting ninth grade for the same reason as you disclaim is you. Yes, I can relate to my story. Yes. Is it so yes I like you left in the picture. I bet right in your office in writing about left-handed and interestingly enough, at the end come the end of the year. The stats for real never hit a homerun. I came close to the wall.

I handful of times couldn't quite get it over the wall but hit an equal amount like literally down to the number of single double triples. But while plays well which is kind of crazy that was drafted to the All-Star team for the playoff video they've got the size you know it's interesting under nephew play nice 15 is a really good intern actually had small advance at 12 years old, a place called Bacchus Park and prosper Frisco sees me Texas into became the grand slam is hundred and 10 pounds at the time.

12. Any it to 60 admitted about 30 feet up. It's a miniature Boston Fenway Park. But even now he start to strike out and I told him I said here's the thing you got a right-handed thrower to throwing to you if you learn how to hit left-handed as you did and I did in the balls breaking then much easier to make contact and all that so I'm encouraged him to do what I did at 15. It sounds like you didn't same age, but has little kid yet that the ball doesn't tickle when it's right so you learn that it eight years old. The first time you get blocks out right out and yeah I lathered as I display the one year and I like died of death All-Star day depending on top. I think that is the irony to is is I thought as I played outfield initially played a couple. I think first base and I would really feel like good enough to do, second, third or second short. 1/3, and it certainly did not want to catch. I do not want to be in a squatting position and catch up.

I thought I would get these batters back so so I actually also pitched became a picture I did what furry you know you would probably never the intent to Colby what he how did he. She was a summary picture for for the parts see this guys baseball knowledge of you and Jeffrey get them or blew me away by all of your baseball conversation knowledge so I did some Marine pitching and then when I get drafted for the All-Star team that actually drafted me now for my hitting, but as a picture and Ellie did that for like two games of the whole entire season. That's what they drafted new house because how effective I was for those two games you know it's interesting were having conversations and brings to mind when I was a picturesque kid Tom St. John. He's my coach and so was Tommy. He played in the minors for the Reds in the late 50s by getting Veda Penson, if you know that name and only know how I start on solder but even at an early age, 11, 12 years old whenever he would do the side arm motion with his hand and type in the batch and that meant for me to go sign on these guys and so I'm not quite summering, which is under which is what you write in, which is amazing. Yeah, that's Canticle V and couple other guys have done it that way but tough to make up for the hitter's not used to seeing that motion right yet yet this year.

Literally like you're saying you don't like either sideways or or or. But but it especially for the right-handed hitters. Right then I need a cake could scare the thing and that some of them) know so you see play baseball high school, college and the college.

She just sisters playing sports or not. Well my little sister played soccer as a young girl of my other sisters running like drill team and stuff like that you familiar with that is that like the dancing of a high school and but they're still pretty athletic. They just didn't really play much sports at think as adults they promptly like little softball here – something like that.

They mention your your your nephew. This currently play baseball right yes are you recently anyway. You fluttered out to watch a play like and that he's not yes sir he's going in the ninth grade.

He's football but is track difficult track runs track. Please baseball and asked him what his favorite athlete.

Yes, I asked which fit what your favorite sport goes, whatever season it is and even say that in a arrogantly he's is a really humble like he loves playing sports, and yet what does want to be of help them in any sort of way that, but he's got great coaches around him and and my sister's wonderful mother to him and my brother-in-law please get a lot of support the course my parents and eight that's the one thing they enjoy more than anything is going these kids at my other grandkids you had granted on their performances mother nephew.

He's in theater and lifetime gets to do the lead and so they're both of you know that age you know middle school actually one of the high school now from Texas and and now that's a lot of fun watching you know what they want to do what what would you nephew James Hayden and Chase made the changes which was the base cluster contains a baseball player in the Chase is the theater guy okay to get both her autographed daddy looking to be like the anise one day. I don't know, and I need to get their autograph now and you can you live that up out here.

I got out picture and all I could get together. I wanted autographed picture from your nephews so I can one day say I got it way before when there you think okay what would you study college businesses administration sees me and kinesiology. I actually have teaching certification for the state of Texas and Lottie, teaches now I didn't know I've never taught by graduate with a teaching degree. Okay courses in physical education minor in house.

Of course I took kinesiology and physiology of exercise all those right now brainiac kind of things which I wasn't necessarily to compel anyway. Anyway, we got so much in common. So Casey did see your studying that okay yeah so yeah so study that in college we go back get your teaching certification is a little bit of a wrinkle because my businesses administration agreement. Some of those courses applied. I had economics teaching certifications economic certification and kinesiology, whereas my undergrad life as a mentor was business ministration.

So did you do formal teaching that are necessary. Have you did 20 years of just an interesting enough just the one school year to set up. I have you it was it was good experience. I just had an opportunity really early on and I've always enjoyed. Like you mentioned baseball Matt, listening to the radio used was the broadcast all the way. The St. Louis games card Steve pick it up a.m. I go to Nebraska. My grandparents listened and so when I had an opportunity to get the radio I was yeah it that I and I mean I'm acted quickly right because I didn't know and and and and and in regards that the Mimi's.

His teachings are occasions lifetime. So at some point you, some people may come back. It's getting to the point where I don't know if I never do that but it was great training ground using that teaching certification here are Nata talk with folks and have the state board there watching teaching grade you and and help you to think linearly and talk in a way that presents audience of the here you may understand your Saints.

All that was very helpful. Yeah, I do it again. I can relate in the sense I tell her I never I never went into a formal teaching is graduating college, I felt like that was my backup plan.

Reich is Mike my dream is play in the NFL. My dream was to have a career there may be a 10 year career than going to coaching for 10 or 20 years that sail off into the sunset and if I needed to have a backup plan.

I could become a teacher. Although I didn't fully have an desire to teach per se, but looking back now, Dave and I find that I would teaching a good majority my life, whether it's teaching people how to work out in a gym teacher be bound to eat right now is a Christ follower, you know, is that one of the. The fivefold ministry is teaching right pastor, teacher, apostle, profit and and evangelists for almost forgot the most important for me bought but you have been teachings to mean the good majority of my life with people you know and can coaching you might say so you know I never formally did it meant how valuable was for me to go get that education in that time you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.

I will be sure to check out the man up show now available on television broadcast and go to MorningStar TV.com or the truth radio network. Check out your local listings or better yet, download the Truth Network app today. I'll need a green tile, carpet, get it right and stop number one thing this is a cola and I want to thank lemons carpet for supporting my new show man on Saturday afternoon at 1230 on the truth network you're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com and how it's applied have been able to imply that to my life now so okay so what point Dennis transition then at what point did you recognize you know your your your like the. The sales grew in my eyes. You know you like the sales elite here in a and sales extraordinaire, salesman extraordinaire, the kind you let me label you that way. What point did you decide you want to want going to sales and then how would you originally meet that Mr. Stu Epperson's senior counterpart question sure so you know what mentoring and coaching abilities in the coaching thing but just to be blunt about it. I had great people that guided me for my first general manager who I'm still in touch with today as we as we taught my first general sales manager honor people.

The production people so I go back to Dallas on grab lunch with one of my whatever. So I was blessed really early on, including the guy that stayed in the sales had done everything in radio. He had been on air this pajamas Ames Bill Bailey anyway so he had been on air sales management, sales manager for the Dallas Cowboys and when I started he was in his maybe like 5455 and he would write me little encouraging notes you know I B+ be positive you know Bill Bailey and Ali sort of things and so I was surrounded by people that really great mental yeah yeah that harridan and I try to be very instructive bowling in the learning grow from day one and that mostly the passion that they exceeded. I was able to pick up on you meet with clients.

Whatever the case was in use years of service to me as we got to know each other break bread together have lunch and some different meals together just hang out together mean.yet you know you when I say sales trainer to her salesman extraordinaire US a pretty big accounts.

I know you shared with me down in in in Dallas to me like some of the compliments of the cobbler, but it's a pretty big account you plan it down there right at the Esso lysis of coupling… A few names and sure so I started I started in January 98 previous year. January 97 where Katie affects.

I think 1190 on the dial and we switched over to FM 94.9 I did know how big we were comely people are listening to us, but I knew we could be bigger and part of that was be in purposeful in terms of how could that maybe get accomplished on in my general sales manager's office on Wednesday and started the Monday supposed to train all that we can stay not said so this or I like to make my first codicil. Sure you can do that. I jumped in the deep and will see what happens.

So I called the Dallas Mavericks they just happen to be doing unpaid cancer many years there looking to do a free camp for under pollutant privilege skews me area either South Ousley's Dallas go back to the relationship part of this.

I do from as a youth minister. He knew the youth minister at Oakwood Bible Fellowship and that led to a free all day camp with the South as cleanup at Tony Evans church government alternative readiness and unclipped Bible Fellowship man's man there 78 Claire Scott Murray, the channel 5 NBC Sports Philly guy who I later went to work alongside her. He came into the position I was work for business by design yes and the count analytics convoy as cowboys and so that led you know just the thoughts.

Those meetings and we are before you know where on the Jumbotron.

We had to bracketing personalities competing at the Dallas Mavericks and at school and Winston-Salem would come in and was a sale and there's a VP for every region and course Stu Epperson Senior in an answer would come in his brother-in-law, Stu singers, why not cross sale meeting here right away as at the time of sale and communications out sale because they watch television now yes Salem PSA will media group in the podcast and all that but my interaction with Stu Senior was very brief because at the time I was in sales. I was in management but he would come and address me the sales team or what not, you know. But as as my time increase there. There was little bit more interaction, including with an a in securing some other folks here that are so so so you get you launching dad but what about what age were you when you lost and only nine a late 20s yes or okay late 20s and in fast-forward, now you're here and a smaller market than Dallas, Texas with Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but you're also covering Charlotte into you been instrumental in helping me personally, as well as many other programs, radio programs and and in landing sponsors and advertisers and so you have got to witness firsthand with you being out out and about with you and talking to potential advertisers and stuff and so your your official role with truth radio network here in Winston and working for Stu and Michael with Robbie and so many others is just outright or built the field the advertising base and a listening or support from front in that regard. Yes oh yes sir so that market responsibilities in a course or in the Triad in Charlotte and the business development terms of anybody and everybody here likes that the team in the family. Anything that we can do to put our heads together. I dental same two heads are better than one. I had to bring in business in a thoughtful way that we can reach the community here in North Carolina and beyond. As you know, Truth Network is far deep and wide throughout the United States. So just wanted to be a part of that. Anyway that I can help Thompson's goal is been great having you here and in for those you out there maybe are not aware of your list to the radio show today. Perhaps her or you listen to this he broadcast on on the podcast network that Truth Network has no enough I go download download their app the truth outright, they can download be at which they get all kinds a lot like get what's going on live. They can goal in being Michelle off the times it shows right there in all that right yeah I have wanted to tell a quick story the podcasting so I just have that opportunity. Only believe this yet, but I was at billions Christian store right been in business 30 years store store and met a gentleman who pulled up in a Wendy's new Corvettes, yellow, and I think it's called team Jesus though he's a truck driver by trade. He's with his assistant. He'll have his own story love to hear maybe entailed on your show but I shared with him our information is Truth Network. I shared with him our podcast network of which Robbie Gilmore heads up and I think were in 100 and 4050 countries across the world, only without her more and more maybe 2030 left to go, but we just had a conversation.

Yes, it was yesterday and he's been listening is a truck driver so he's in various states he's been listing particular to your show and of course other shows as well but yet he's got he's on fire for the Lord and is try to just bring his message and out obviously have him tell benefits time it's appropriate for team Jesus. But he's here North Carolina well you have your unique and your your extraordinary what what you do.

I've seen firsthand and just appreciate all your encouragement in your supportive this appreciate your story and just when just what what you do if you're more valuable than you know you really are a last we got we got just a minute left here but what what would you say maybe three authors considering sales thought about sales, it was one word of advice you give to them if they're considering that ESI would start with.

If you're thinking about it. Considering that it's obviously there for a reason and the prey upon it that I would give that encouragement because you know there's a lot of sayings right did you journey the millions that starts the first step.

Just like anything else you can learn it and then course your passion and in your desire and your love for whatever you're selling. In this case, but awesome product use word often comes with godly things and talk about Jesus Christ and talk about our faith.

What a wonderful opportunity. At same time make a living. That's wonderful thing. So if it's particular to Christian radio or whatever that passion is.

I would say to not let the grass grow under your feet appreciated. Hey, if you're out there listening you like a elevate connect with David Mamet and see how I could sponsor one of these shows whether the manager shall Christian car guide masculine journey Lander rescue or the many many other plethora of shows that we have on the truth radio network will go back if they could just call.
