You come your calling today from the sunshine state tell our listeners who Chris Whaley is well. I'm a guy blessed beyond measure. So many different way grew up Lord and very poor family strictly kid in an out of the hospital. God finally got that under control and when I was growing up. One of my big things with watching professional wrestling Eddie Graham go all the guys after my mom came to know the Lord. Things change in our home started going to church met the young lady that ultimately would become my wife seven years and got good graduate college with her. We have to wonderful daughter married a godly young man, six grandchildren had the opportunity to Russell for 10 years and have been a pastor since 1988 and I'm still speaking everywhere.

I get the opportunity preach last Sunday for and looking forward to every opportunity they got wow's case it's quite a resume in and somewhat. I can relate to. To a lot of your story really and in the center you talk about growing up. You know, and in a in a portfolio as I grew up in welfare grew up in the projects of Minneapolis and in my case, a single mom and blocked out with with several siblings and and four daughters you got to I got for you got six grandkids.

I just had recently my 10th my daughter Kendra has been branded out in suffer for Jesus out of Maui Hawaii just just had their second second daughter and then a course the wrestling or as we've known in the South around Iceland right at you for that once or twice) hey chilling ambassadors but and then the ministry and just so there is a lot of relatability there about highly one thing you said because I'm every time you shared some your story with me before and and if I'm not mistaken correctly. Veronica you battle polio when when you were our youngsters that that's one of the physical infirmities you had right polio) are great at polio was in the hospital for three months. I used to say my mom and dad bought the second floor. The one right hospital because I was in there so long, but now had a wonderful godly Dr. to was a bold with God's help to get me back on the road to recovery. It was rough had turned to walk all over again. But you know I made it very very very blessed and thankful everything got his gun and TruthNetwork.com to call up here with a huge announcement like this big enough man up men's conference. You will not want to miss out drain tile and carpet right now number one thing this is Nicole and I want to thank Blevins for supporting my new show man on Saturday afternoon at 1230 on the truth that were your listening to the truth and TruthNetwork.com and in so that's amazing the Army to overcome. You know those type of of infirmities, if you will him and go on to have about a tenure wrestling for US grew to about 10 years. The eighth 1988 course it was never on the never-ending level of Nikita: I wrestle some pretty crazy places but I just never turn down an opportunity I could get workout.

I wanted to do it on the last half of my career better than the first Because you got to work with some great people in Texas whenever I wish going to seminary at Southwestern Baptist theological seminary and so very thankful for that time there and and left them there to become a pastor you caught you were called in the ministry going to the seminary, but like out of the woods.

We call it moonlighting as a professional wrestler at the same time that we fair to say yeah my mother wife with a high school math teacher, so she was teaching math at the high school for work area and my doctoral girls works. One little girl was in preschool and mild second grade and not show.

I wish you seminary student dad in the daytime. Got to Russell and my world that's a live and and and under the hood like as the mast St. yes I Know actually St. of the mast.

St. came about because of the book, but whenever I worked I worked – the shank the St. but under a mask under the hood under the hood St. I love it I love it and you know I appreciate your humility about. Obviously, you know, working and we talked any you were to assume some some Greg bruiser Brody and I and King King par ice ice Parsons Ryden the Iceman I work best three birds that Roberts want the greatest world they alter warrior ride in the undertaker and so you you are in the ring was some pretty pretty pretty good heavyweights there, and I know you are in the indie scene for a long time now. The independent scene is as garnered much more respect in today's world.

Back in the days of territories writing me off. Time to go into all of that today. Boo was going to have to get you. In fact, if you want to hear more of Chris's story you he mentioned the book the mass in a movie he had handed me a movie kind of someone of his life story. The book goes into more detail will pick up a copy of his book. A copy of of the mast St. movie Chris what your website working people find that the mast St.com M a KE beat the mast St.com so go go to this website or the movie. I would tell you what you'll see is if your wrestling fan out there listening you.

You'll enjoy Chris's story.

Boy, there's so much more to his story.

When I say he was a not only a master wrestler. He was a master pastor. He was a vigil latte out there and correcting the wrongs and making things right out there in the world outside of the wrestling ring and so infected don't go check out Chris's interview on on the man up show some time you will be disappointed and so okay Chris so this is that there's so much more. Your story but this is called the Q&A would call off and you get the opportunity asked me questions since I don't know what they are know you told me you put a few questions together but let let's turn the table down the listless flip flip it around and what's your first question, Kate, Mike, who was the greatest influence on you from wrestling and from ministry whole okay to park question will start with the wrestling first that I've got to give credit where credit is due.

Obviously anyone knows my story. The way Abril can I will going all that.

If you want more that story you have to go by my book rush Nikita a tell of the regular deficit is going to call off.net buy that book you get the full story, but out of the gate.

Ivan call off uncle Ivonne beyond the Ivonne and Don Kerr Knoll were certainly instrumental Army. They talk about making a sacrifice with the big behemoth the old Russian menace nightmare in the cuticle off just because the dad broke in. What really for the next couple three months we would travel to the town's early get there to three hours early and I say they pump and dump all over the ring teach me the mechanics of wrestling. I'd sit in their corner watch the world tag team title match every night and then on the drive home.

We talk about the old school psychology of wrestling and so that's how I cut my teeth and that it was literally on the job training so lots of credit today and but I'd be remiss if I did mention names like Ricky the Dragon steamboat nature boy Ric flair American dream to throw the towel power to three to be found if you wheeled the listening to the truth and TruthNetwork.com. I will be sure to check out the man up show now available on television broadcast and go to MorningStar TV.com or the truth radio network. I me just a number of guys Chris that I got a privilege of working with very, very, very early in my career that also were instrumental in my learning. Okay wrestling side ministry side you know surrender my life to the Lord.

11 months after I leave wrestling and in him and all and kinda guys I'm in church Sunday morning Sunday night Wednesday night revivals.

I mean on their and on my very first pastor was Pastor Tom Whidden was gone on to be with the Lord. But then very instrumental, who is still my pastor to this day, J Stewart, Pastor J. Stewart, 28+ years later is been like a mentor discipling me in and pouring into me, his wisdom and insight in knowledge and understanding and and then there's been a few other staff, all could come and gone.

Some of them along the way in evangelism South Africa it I me just just so many guys some that I've I've watched from afar, but I have really ministered to me as I delved into their their messages. Ami Rev. Billy Graham.

I never personally met Rev. Graham but I watch one of his messages.

I watched 100 of them and just gleaned and learned from from guys like that so yeah so they go from Eureka. Number two I am okay. Is there anything you would done differently.

That's a wide open question there is that one so why you not going to get over there you go to work for my thigh area.

I mean, you know, at this stage of life subdue my best to tend to not live with any regrets right just start with that it have if I were to but if I were to pinpoint something or look back you know the all expresses how you know hindsight is 20/20 and I don't know how how true that is who you are.

Use that expression. Others do as well.

In other words, I can look back and if you will express it to if I knew then what I know now right at me aren't so if there were things I knew in my younger days that I now know.

Certainly some of the relationships that I have had. I probably would've handled them differently being more more experienced now in the area of relationships and look I'm still learning, and when it comes to relationships but but I would say that just just passed in prior relationships and friendships that I've had that I probably would've handled somewhat differently had I had more maturity back will what was your greatest match.

I know you had found what was going on that one mattress, and found that man. It was a great match. Yeah, you know, to narrow it down, and certainly the very first so that comes to mind is my first attempt at defeating the nature boy Ric flair, the world heavyweight title, the Great American Bash, 1985 the first ever Great American Bash Memorial Stadium, Charlotte, 25, 30, 35,000. The numbers somewhere in that ballpark, but a lot of people right. Just a lot of people I'm only 13 teen months into this of the night I debut with an 11 second win in the Dorton Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

13 months later almost to the day.

I'm now donning the ring is as of the challenger to the world champion already having won the world taking belts the world six man belts and non-wrestling the nature boy Ric flair, certainly comes comes to mind to others. Real quick. The wargames the first ever wargames is incredibly met memorable superpowers. The road words report precious Paul L ring.

I guess the four Horsemen with JJ. Dylan was electrifying and I be remiss if I didn't mention the best-of-seven series against Magnum T8 the most talked about of of my career. Well, that's awesome.

Well, by the way you like. I just read today where's making a comeback in June, July or something like that and giggling at 73 years 73 years of age.

That's really amazing. Not surprised that okay yeah I know that other people know about this book.

I don't dump your conversion experience so that the elevator version of it is I leave wrestling my last official match of the wood. November 7, 1992 against big van Vader innovator had a history of history is kind of a reputation of being reckless while he entered me that night. It was not career ending for the record, although he entered my neck and I got a hernia that he was the legit, about 450+ pounds right that in no it to the next day but I got a hernia have impressed them pick them up.

You know for body slam whatever it and had hernia surgery was rehabilitating my knack was over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's holiday and I already determined my mind the day I broke in that I be out of active wrestling. By the time I was 35. I was get ready turn 34 I thought I'm going to go back for six months, nine months, or even a year. I'm done about under my own terms. No fanfare, no glitz, no glory. I just walked away, only to find myself at an altar. 11 months later in the reason being, I illustrated the illustration. Now I'm using right now is is a puzzle you put a puzzle together, only to find you got the last piece missing right which means the portrait is not complete without that last piece to the puzzle. It's in complete that's really an illustration of my life at that time and really for many people, probably even today. If you like their life is just incomplete. The missing piece is that personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I did not grow up in Russia I did not grow up in church, but I knew the story of the man Jesus who had lived died crucified rose again live at the right hand of the father story, never mediating his trip from my head down to my heart that I met a Christian couple. Through Bert, a business venture that I was involved in invited me to their church. 17. October 1993 I showed up, called him and said I'll be there and that was the defining moment of my life when I walked into the church service and walked down to that altar at the end of service got my knees 11 months after wrestling had an encounter with Jesus that for every change my life and change my destiny and that's that the shorter version set me on course. I never would've ever dreamed a that is awesome brother. I am so thankful that he did because she or it never can have retirement like so that's right you got to keep keep going until Jesus got here until he comes back, a man that is 100% correct.

The KFI retirement in the Bible you are at high yes I really like to know you.

Either you, your favorite verse of favorite passage of Scripture. Colossians 110 losses 110, become a lie first for me nine and in and in a nutshell basically says this is for parts to it that my goal today is that I will live a life that's worthy of Jesus. In other words, a life that honors him today and and and fully please him, not just pleasing but fully please them. So my goal is to fully please him today because of the promise of tomorrow so I just got it. I just got a focus on today and so do my actions through my words and even to my thoughts and sometimes I gotta capture those thoughts and pull them down the strongholds in vain imaginations and cast them to the foot of the cross so I want to live a life today that honors him that's that's worthy of him to carry his name to fully please him in every way, to bear fruit for every good work. Part three, to bear good fruit and last known lease part four to grow in the knowledge of him so want to grow and mature bear good fruit. Every day you at least today and every day, and then fully please him and live a life that's worthy Colossians 110 auction off buyers last one. Do you watch wrestling today. I don't. I believe it or not like the real like Nellis and III followed by how about you I do a lot of autograph signings, legends, events, kinds, personal appearance is like when I just recently met you and you hand me that movie. The mass saint in enjoyed watching that by the way, and that for the those you listen out there go to his website get that movie and get his book, but it I sent you when I said I walked all way at the end of 1992. I don't know that I could say at this point that I've ever seen any of a full episode of any wrestling show at all. Now you know.

I've seen bits and pieces and clips and people postings on social media and again I have conversations with the fans of the mouth signing their autographs and they come to keep me up-to-date and you fall a little bit, you know, ADW and ring of honor and all the different different organizations but but I don't I don't I don't you know I really I close the door that I'm still connected. I still love my fans and dad still connected with them but but just to watch the product of today. You know that kind of parallels of my like to know the opportunity meeting meeting and talking with them and all, but not watching it last time I walked through quick good friends were blackjack Mulligan and blackjack was in the hospital over close to me. I walked up the and two huge guys were in their use of these are my grandson. I didn't know freight Wyatt Dallas.

I think they work for their work, prevent, so I watch I walked it just to see his grandson at work so I could tell him that, but I was left, walked the and it is not you know it's it's a different different product is produced from the goal what they call the golden era wrestling but thankful. Still thankful as I know you are, for all the fans out there and out of the hands of and today Chris Whaley the mass saint's on Q&A with cholos go by his book goodbyes movie. I know you be blessed by his life story and Chris, thanks for being on the Q&A and thank you for your questions today are mandate and honored to be on your show and I sure hope anybody listening story of mechanical lot at the sky church and having, tell her story, you will not regret it in the Lord of the great thing you are a blessing is that I'm as jumpy as I have to ask Omar. I have been listed with the guy that you slammed on the ground right yet is his wife went your church right right right. Did he ever come to the church after that, you know little bit different that that didn't happen. But you know he came he would not the same guy. After that, and no creepy family differently and I and I would like to hope. I don't know what I like (after I left there to go to my second Kirk that he eventually came to know the word I just don't know that answer yet another was I just think about the whole incident that God can be when it convicts them in the end. Of course you know IVC had a bit of a wake-up call. His front yard, but I'm awesome. I think one. The think God let me get pro wrestling was because I have such a high pain tolerance. I could deal with physical pain. The emotional pain that I but the physical pain.

You know, I was able to deal with that. Really I guess that's why was so stupid and did some of the stuff that I did it, we will have our moments Chris day you bit awesome today and I can't thank you enough for carbon out some time to to be with us and look forward to look forward to talk with you again here in the near future. Okay God bless you brother. You keep the faith, baby not the baby fate a mad God bless you, thank you for tuning in to Q&A with cholos tuning again for another episode.
