I talked with Maurice Goldie who shares with us how God finally crossed his right college which will lead to more becoming a personal aide personal Rev. Billy Graham, his wife, 40+ man up. Well good day good day good day. Welcome to it's time to man up with Nikita Cole off once the Russian nightmare. Now the devil's worst nightmare, and I am excited today I me I'm beside myself. That would make me twice the size that I normally am, I am beside myself. I have such a special guests that were going to talk with today just have a conversation. I was fortunate to meet this man quite a number years ago I got I was attempting to have a private tour if you will of of the cove and some your family without ball part of the Billy Graham evangelistic Association up in the mountains and I was introduced to a man by the name of Maurice Colby and Matt we just hit it off. We just connected and in have stayed in touch over the years and it is some you may or may not recognize that name, but I'm a tell you why. When you hear some of the stories she's going to share with you today. You are just going to be blown away.

If you're like me, so let me just take this opportunity to welcome Maureen Scobee to the show more welcome and thank you so but well it is great that the have you with us in the Moriarty not work. It will get a jump into. I'm, I'm sure you have a lifetime of stories and we could probably have 10 shows just with you talking about your story and what you've done over the last period of of years and really, over the course of of your lifetime you will get to that were to talk about the Billy Graham evangelistic Association will talk little bit about the cove about Monterey but up before we do that now. Let's let's back up a little bit for the listeners in it and by the way, you know, that shows all it's time to man up at night as it's real talk with real men, you know that that realize you know it's in our world today. It is time to man up and I certainly consider you to be one of those real men worry like you. Well let's let's do this.

Let's talk about let's let's back up for me for a moment before we jump into what your role was with the Billy Graham evangelistic Association and let let's let our listeners know not happy yet. Have you always been from North Carolina. I don't think so right.

I think maybe you your roots began down in the great state of Texas. Is that right yeah that's right elbow moment that moved around after they got married but I got married again. Well, Illinois bad glissando was opening a big player in East Texas with my mom and dad.

One of the first few couples that moved down to get that earthmoving equipment business on the feet, and so wall that little more came along in February 1948, little Maureen came along 19 and will end at West East Texas work what what town was that in more Longview long as you don't worry so back to 1800 somebody tae bo granola. They said my one day Longview and that's our job. It's nine that's pretty amazing. I find it fascinating. What is the name of a town or or other other historical markers. You know this.

There's always a story behind it right that's that's what you that's an easy to mention it's interesting little side note, you mentioned that the earthmoving machines and and I haven't done a whole lot of study. But I've heard that name before the year that you mention what was the name of the owner of the company's name was Archie Latour know and really he was born and reared in California that he moved from there to Peoria, Illinois. He was manufacturing earthmoving equipment and the tires of which were almost 8 feet tall and inversely one from her between high school and going to college.

I operated one of those was seen in the hardest thing about getting to work every day. I had to climb up the trail of the fire to get inside the cab and then after that you just push toggle switches to drive the thing and I was really I have to say one of my most fun summer jobs over the years so that that would've been like what happened during your high school days that that you were doing that.

The summary I graduated high school in the effects of bed that summer I worked on all part of I 20 that goes through, it goes from Bob. I guess from Atlanta to El Paso. It's quite along Interstate 20 and all. So it was really good and that they one of my favorite summer job swallows like college, that's amazing. I think I've got the goes all the way. He states I think the even over to Savannah over towards the Xhosa. I think I've driven goes all the way to LA adorns up with Bob from El Paso enjoys up with five Chandon Linda so I 20 changes that only goes from Atlanta to El Paso with Maribel change that I can yeah I think I've driven the majority of of that stretch into don't don't know that I care to ever do it again but certainly have done it in the past. A little side note you want Archie Latour know I think about how mistaken you may know better than me. It seems like if I remember my history right him as well as a number of guys said that that were successful in instant, in that era of time if I'm not mistaken beliefs towards the latter part of his life. I seem to remember reading that he essentially gave 90% of all of his wealth away and lived off like 10% that are you familiar with) personal love and job and so he donated 90% of all personal all know income ministries and he helped all Kaiser ministries all over the United States and world.

Now that he was glad I'm sorry you sorta got to be well known for giving so much back to the Lord's work. Well, which is interesting right for our listeners out there that just just just let's just pause here for a moment and just think about what Maureen just said he gave 90% of his personal income away to charity to ministries in an organizations, etc. lived off 10%. Now if you do your math on that for those you who ties which you note the tithe is 10% and in essence this man is tithing 90% and living off 10%. It when I know that I was I was quite a story. I would say that he did it. A braggadocio way, but right as people got to know a bit dull interviews or whatever it was slipped out that that was generously was thank you thank you Lord for letting them is salvation and banned all to maintain about five forgiving for Christian ministries all over the world. Well which switches the statement in another self morning frost for all of us to understand that you know that even the fact that guises out you give me 10% you keep 90 you know is is generous in and of itself, but once we once we garner that understanding of we can't out give God the man we know. Yeah when you have that heart of giving men. It just God knows that and and will open as the Scripture says, the windows of heaven and pour blessings that you can't contain. Certainly this man's testimony is evidence of that right grappling well so so so you you graduate high school. I was graduate high school and I knew I was going to start college. I wanted to work and so will all happen to be opening Interstate 20. Faxes Letourneau saw me.

The hardest part of my job was climbing up the side of the 10 foot rubber tire get up in the cab and then it was all easy. Just operate the rheostat for speed and then look toggle switches to raise and lower the bad as it would dig into the dirt to take on 240 tons of dirt. Well, that's amazing. Now you mention EE so you had at a prayer meeting, so let's let's share with our listeners to that you know your your story of of you know, did you grow up in a Christian home, did you have what was that like more. Yes I did and now several generations back.

My grandpa will be offered when daddy was in Battle of the Bulge. He heard Mr. Letourneau speak at a church Sunday evening prayer service and all he wrote my dad a letter and said I think I've just heard one of the greatest speakers I've ever heard and all now only was like a fascinating speaker, but also he proposes giving way outside of your means. This far is given back to the Lord. So I was a testimony that reflects our no wall, you know, always brought into his speeches with you can't really give God wow that's amazing. So you would've what how would you have been more when when you know that relationship with Jesus became became real for you like like UK you grow up in a Christian home, you heard a lot of the stories went to church and prayer meetings but like how old were you when it like just became real like okay the Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I'm Dick I'm declaring that yeah me growing up in a Christian family and almost wasn't given in a way to fight God you have to fill your data that while my family believes I'm sitting here and I also believe that I just prayed the sinners prayer to accept the Lord in my life. How would you been in you did that.

I think that all 656 travel log in their young a young age that you recognize the need for personal relationship with Jesus. Yeah doll it's been so long ago but still I fall prayed my life through and followed as the Lord laid a beta think that that is sometimes without a doubt the best thing to do but it's not always the easiest thing because so when you're entering into a dark room, opening a new chapter in your life this that the other you don't know what leads that you just try to trust the Lord for the future download great walk of life. While it sets a great perspective and certainly far listeners out there understand you just understand that what what we are talking about today is a personal relationship. Opening up your hearts, accepting, receiving Jesus into your life and establishing a relationship with him. Yeah I'll outside of the outside of that, you know it's not about growing up in a Christian home were attending a Christian school, although those things are certain we can certainly be a blessing, but at some point time is more just mention you know, there comes that the time of decision when when you have to acknowledge okay I I need. I'm a sinner and I need Jesus in my life so absolutely young age for you so so Morrissey working this heavy equipment and then at at some point was it was college in the future for you.

Then at some point. Oh yeah, just at the end of that summer that all I said that one summer look for equipment which, in looking back, that was warned about my bouts favorite summer jobs and then once I did start college, I realized that my mom and dad.

I was there bellboy had belabored or not. I have about 45 job moves that came from lab because people would've seen my work and Mel and Kellan my personality and my drive to live certainly be a believer in all so then God started moving me around after that summer. Let's amazing because yeah because I guess you think about it, you know, working at a hotel you're going to come into contact with with a lot of different people expend especially you know businessmen and women in and just a lot a lot of people a lot of lot of possibilities or opportunities like you talk about this pretty maze and never really thought about that way that's great. I encourage a lot of people in all do after your listeners through the job.

If a great job for college. Because you're trying to go to school during the daylight hours as it were, then link this to be the afternoon. That's when somebody of the hotel vessel might be people to come work in the front desk or like I did well but and so it makes a wonderful way to do all make some money and still studying school, that's amazing. And again, college was what what college did you go to. I went to all internal college and it was welding in engineering and business but then they also have some other college careers like education, then and now. So it was a well-rounded job liberal arts college in the home.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in school but I did end up working full time so it took me five years. Well, closer to six years to graduate and a lot of people love had a hard time trying to figure that out that I'm glad that I wasn't dressed to work full-time plus go to college. So a lot of the Masters violator to courses but then I was able to continue to work full time and so it's not for everybody but I would encourage a lot of people along the way. Though some people lived on the first semester to because it made it a little bit easier financially to have that spending money and all. So I don't regret. Looking back on what I did. Now, well it sounds like GME had you had an unusual incident in you had your sights on on what you were wanting to do and in the course determined to you to succeed in any dead and so you know that's that's it. There's a congratulations in there that's for sure. See see graduate college level. What is life look like upon graduation from college tingling in the woods.

I was a kid, I didn't get to the motion picture business.

I love the actual process of babymaking. So when I graduated from college. Plus, with all that experience in hotels. I told my mom and dad in the spreading of law 1977 just after the first of the year that all I'm going to go and seek my famous fortunately motion picture industry. I could go out there and get a job anywhere in the hotel and then I can sort of knock on the doors to see if all that is the way that I'll be able to get in the film industry, which is what is been my hearts desire, but I should back up a little bit because Psalm along the line. There I heard about Billy Graham's son Franklin coming to college. Of course all the way back to when Betty was in World War II. Our family all that he had been followers of Billy Graham in person as well as on the radio it and through his television ministry and so all my grandfather, Shelby, grandpa Scobee daddy was World War II Battle of the Bulge during World War II and the home.

My grandfather wrote him a letter and said I honestly think I have just heard the best speaker I have ever heard of my life and I pray for this young man is got a wonderful ministry ahead.

I think the Lord shall use them in a body way and I don't I know it doesn't exactly connect with peers. My grandfather Kelly, my dad during the war fighting the war about Billy Graham but then while God foresaw the I would end up working for them. So I dug exactly connect, but that interstate well it it God has a way of connecting dots and working to certainly talk about that in it and will circle back around that your your time with with with Rev. Billy Graham and Amber. That's a bit amazing part of the story so your death are your grandfathers at the Battle of the Bulge in the midst of war. Here's Billy Graham speaking and says I think I just heard the best preacher, the best speaker of ever heard on the planet. No errors as it were, and all so it's just it's a marvelous that my interesting history of my life. You know the grandpa Scobee for Saul the future and away you know what PL recognize Miss Graham been such a tremendous speaker and wanted to write daddy during the World War II Battle of the Bulge good night. Interesting assortment on the lookout details how the fall in place and it's fascinating. It's almost like you said it's almost like a prophetic picture little bit more now. Yeah.

Little did Maureen know one day down the road in the future there there be a connection. Could you mention the name Franklin Graham were set up our listeners are probably pretty familiar with with that name. A present-day Samaritans person and oh yeah yet all the work he's doing so so at what point help connect art. The dots are listeners that so did you meet Franklin at some point there will how to then well I flowing on campus a lot. It was a smaller campus and we had chapel every day, so I followed probably going and I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be the child of such an international superstar Waldo around the world and so I also said that he knew what it was like to be the child of a celebrity and and that he had to have some caution in just who the levy had to be a friend that that sort of thing. So I really just started trust of the Lord that if it was God's will, we would meet and that I wasn't going to do anything to make it happen and I think through whatever our players all about aspects of my life. That's good to be the capital one when we really describe it. We want to take it to another level.

And they were going to write it if it's God's will is going to work out and then let the Lord align your past, so to speak, to make whatever your life is supposed to be his will for you and so wall at some point you probably realized it wasn't going to happen and that was okay and I saw him.

We cross paths a lot, but he always looked down and all he was just so bashful that first year he was there and so they got all the way to the last day of school and I have a 6 PM engineering class and I was driving off campus and I realized it was a Friday. The end of the school year and I should probably get my real campus mail so I wheeled into the post office to write up the stairs and I was down for the with my little combination lock on my little PO Box when somebody came in the door install good looked over and said hey aren't you Maury Scobee and I looked at it was Franklin Graham so you know it's a wonderful illustration of praying and waiting and that if it is in fact God's will is good workout. Accordingly, as well as oh Franklin had been here about real campus and was hoping to meet and in the last 15 minutes for his last 15 minutes on campus at my last 15 minutes on campus and the campus was mostly 90% gone.

So here again when you make in the matter of prayer according to God's perfect will for your life.
