This is the program is a family caregiver. How are you how are you feeling the family caregivers of at risk individuals firmly believe they are caring challenges for at least two people themselves and at least one other person there caring for some caregivers.

Take care.

Multiple are you one of those. If you are, you're in the right place and were glad that you are with this hope for the caregiver.com. If you want to learn more about the program you got your website usual for me to let you can see me, questioned whatever's on your heart and let me know how I can respond accountable wherever you are. What is what's in your headspace. This is the time and this is the program for all of us as family caregivers to come together and compare notes and draw strength from each other.

What can we learn from each other through this process and were not to solve it. That's not the goal that the goal becomes for us as caregivers. This can we live peacefully when everything else is not can we live a little more calmly a little healthier and dare I say a little more joyful and I believe we can but it takes work and it takes comparing notes with others, whether it's through a support group whether program like this, fellow caregivers, pastor clergy, your doctor, somebody else besides your own voice that's giving you some objective counsel where you can learn and appropriate in your own life you know hey that's working for them in the truck for myself. But all too often we caregivers we just toil along in isolation and and we feel so cut off from everyone else. Nobody could possibly understand what were going through her or I feel embarrassed or or I don't know what editing sometimes we don't know what to ask. And that's all of those things are completely normal, but let's invade that normal with some clarity.

Let's dig in to our circumstances.

Caregivers and see what's really causing us the angst and all too often we blame it on the behaviors or the condition of a loved one. Well, if they weren't like this that we could be. That's really what's going on because it wasn't their situation or their circumstance or their behavior could be something else is always something to to pork us and to get us agitated and angst driven question is how are we going to deal with it. How do we respond to it. Are we reacting all the time. Are we responding on the tub and I was thinking about this I know it's not football season was get ready in a couple months and I'm not really following football much at this time of my life, but as you ever watch the you know these things get into the two-minute offense or the no huddle offense when the clock is running in.

They are jumping really quick to the line of scrimmage. Move the ball fast and try to catch the defense off guard and move this ball down the field as fast as they can't because the clock is the enemy and you know I understand that understand the place it as it and I used to think you want to do this all the tough they just keep going and keep pushing on office will I have not football coach or I can't tell you why, but I can posit why I think they might because it's exhausting and at some point you have to sit down and have a clear plan. You have to have a clear path of of what there's a Windows forward advancement look like.

And we as caregivers I think you're playing limited offense. You know, no huddle offense all the time and were having to make up stuff on the fly and it it's hard to have some type of cohesive strategy where were going was that look like for you, how do you plan for your health that you plan for your business. You do for meals.

How do you plan to clean the house and do laundry.

When you do that. These are all legitimate issues that face solely caregivers are people. They well you get all the medical stuff of the pharmacy. Yeah, that's true. I got a lot of that my house I'm at the pharmacist, but a regular basis and doctors and so forth. But is that really where the battle is, is it time management is it just the constant interruption of stuff the stop and go traffic. Don't you hate being in traffic when it's just stop and go stop and go stop and go. We lived in Nashville. It was like that for us just increasingly that's one of them.

The increase in title F natural moved to Montana on the way home today I pulled off by the side of the road and watch the cowboy rope and a calf you know and that's a lot better to watch the traffic open for traffic, I gotta tell you it's it's got a cool and you know sometimes we will have traffic out here with that when they move cattle appear into the forest. Will try to get down the main road. We sometimes have to stop for the cattle drive but be honest how many of you all would love to just watch a cattle drive. You mean it is gonna cool but stop and go traffic in the city if you ever spent any time and in major urban areas like Atlanta. All that was used.

God help those poor folks at Los Angeles managed just nuts in his heart of the carts hard on your nerves. You just you just it's frustrating but that's that's kind of our life is caregivers is stop and go stop and go stop and go and you never really get to have you all could drive a stick shift it in a stick shift car you would hear five years and you put it in fifth gear you just cruise on down the road is just is nothing quite like you know but it seems like we we don't get out there very much in fifth gear and we end up moving at a pace that is very taxing to us. It's is stressful to go slower than you want to and slower than your built to go and yet can we be at peace with that pace. Are you at peace with the pace. Can you find ways to move your body and your mind and your heart while serving as a caregiver at and I suggest you that we have to let her know what that looks like for you to tell you some the things it looks like for me for me when I get on this program I'm moving it my pace. I'm speaking in my mind is working and I'm thinking about these things and I'm sharing with you what I go out and speak in public.

Get out on stage or on television or whatever, that's me moving it my pace and it's not work for me to do that is not work for me to go to the piano and I get to move my pace. I love getting there in the studio and doing stuff with Gracie because musically we just become so synced and it's it's it's really wonderful to experience that. I love that we have the other day I was out there and we started with spring came a little later Montana.

We had snow hope last 3 inches of snow and the second week of May but were way up in the Rockies, but now it's seems to be here and I was out there was just with the horses just hanging out with freedom. The other night and it was one of those nights where you the sunlight streaming through the trees and and this horses are swishing their tails and nuzzled up with you and it's just as it's hard to describe list you done it. How meaningful that is, I'm not moving fast but my heart is engaged with all my senses and I'm just being alerted to be a piece of putting in fifth gear.

If you notice when you're in fifth gear on your on your five-speed the RPMs are roughly about 2.3 to 2.5 so your your your RPMs are not really hot on your car in the cars easing into that while you going this no fast, but you're not racing in the question for us is caregivers can we go fast without racing or all we always feel like were that no huddle offense were just constantly having to figure it out on the fly and I would suggest to you that we can do. The form takes a little bit of work and I believe the Scripture back set up to talk about that some more. The next segment dispute arose part of this is hope for the cure.

Healthy caregivers like Medicare look back over the caregiver. This is Peter Rosenberg. This is the program for you as a family caregiver glad that you're listening here on American family revealed across the country on all of her affiliates Truth Network his radio and so many others. Thank you all for seeing value to reaching the family caregiver with encouragement, practical help in porting them to the source of all Christ. Now, I was told about the last segment about the no huddle offense and the way we kind of approach the journey with us is caregivers that were always somehow feel like were on the fly. The Army well unless it were always do it. How many of you will do that you feel this way on a regular basis that your somehow just him to gotta make it up as you go along. There's no good strategic plan.

You're just trying to keep from drowning and is just work and you don't ever get that place where you're able to just come to ease into it, but I think we can. I think we have to be creative as I shared a few things with you in the last segment you with me. Stop by the side of the road today and I watched the cowboy lassoed a calf. I just come over to watch the do music with my wife. I listen to Sinatra while a will of fold laundry. I do – Gracie and when I cook to. She said I really couldn't will when I listen to Sinatra and and at night I do.

I tried the other night I tried a chicken Parmesan that I made from scratch by the late it was quite good and I find things that I can take pleasure in, and enjoy the challenge me that pushed me a little bit that I can do it within the confines of my task is a caregiver.

I can't do some of the things that other people can do I have to be close by, and Gracie has a great many needs, but that doesn't mean that I am completely locked out of joy in living life and even the work that I do I can clean the kitchen and and and or cook and clean the kitchen while I'm listening to music that I love. I find things to to bring me great engagement in the midst of my caregiving task and I think that lines up with what it says in the book of Ecclesiastes.

Now I want you to listen to this passage right here.

Ecclesiastes 224 through 25.

What has a man from all the toil and striving of heart with which he toils beneath the sun for all his days are full of sorrow in his work is fixation even in the night his heart does not rest.

This is also vanity and you will feel that way when you know all your days are full of sorrow and your work is fixation. But then he goes the next verse uses. There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil in one translation says little is labor. Labor this also I Saul is from the hand of God, for apart from him who can eat or who could have an enjoyment. Can we find enjoyment in our toil and our labor.

Think about all the things that we do is caregivers can we find enjoyment in this Scripture says we kids about. There's nothing better for person to do this and it it's also from the hand of God, for apart from him who can eat or have enjoyment and so is their principal. We can learn in this how many of you know little secret about caregivers may people know this but I will tell you all this. Okay you not tell anybody else this just be our secret. Just you and me. How many of you know that laundry is a big part of being a caregiver just to show hands nephew driving keep both hands on the wheel, how many will know this laundry is a is a very time-consuming part of being a caregiver. We just seem to go through a lot laundry our house. So what you do about that. Does it become something that you can find enjoyment while doing I will tell you something again. Don't tell anybody else this just us.

Okay this just us. Sometimes I'll ironed pillowcases in the sheets.

I like ironing ironing can be quite cathartic for me and I'll sit there no either put out something good to watch or usually I will listen to great music, or I have of always getting a Bluetooth about your psych.

I'll talk to friends and so forth. Early morning I'll just turn and make some calls I've actually done interviews immediately so forth.

While earning his I just there's there's really nothing better than getting into bed at night with nice clean sheets and ironed pillowcases, you know, starched. There's nothing better.

Y'all know this but who wants to go that kind of trouble. But for me that's like what we talked about the last segment you put it in that fifth gear I can just kinda coasted my hands can work and I can let my mind enjoy something else with. There's a conversation with friends or even doing an interview or listen to great music.

Whatever I listen to comedy.

Lots of things to do just enjoy that and I find it when I folded laundry and put it away and everything's done. It gives me great enjoyment. You take the winds where you can as a caregiver. Okay, sometimes it's cleaning the microwave or doing a really bang up job on clean the kitchen or whatever or make it a great meal and it's one of those things where you don't have to have these exotic things to Harold's accomplishment, you can just enjoy the labor the toil.

If you will.

How many of you will believe that that's what Scripture says I just read it from the Texas what it says.

One of the things it always frustrates me is secured is that I can't take on big long projects I've got to say on the deck this summer.

I've got to do it though. The pain is all messed up and got a get out there and do it and I'm try to figure out when and where to do that because when I take on a project I don't like to get into it and have to stop and start stop start so I have to carefully pick the projects or carefully pick the time to do it or have somebody that can look after Gracie because it's hard to come in and out of the house when you're covered dirt and everything else you track any make a mess and you can cook dinner and more laundry again so you know there's a lot of planning that goes in again. I can't do the two minute offense all the time. I can't do that. Hurry up offense all the time. I have to come to think it through, but I can find things that give me great accomplishment.

Little by little and I can take enjoyment in the work in a job well done and likes it. Sometimes just the laundry. Sometimes it's it's organizing my office, which is a bit challenging at times that I ever get the leaf blower for that would and then other times I'll get up in the morning early in the morning and I'll go settle up and go on a short run.

Maybe an hour and 1/2 now that we have nice weather out here Montana will be doing that more I do that before Gracie gets up so I come in. If had a good ride, and it was you know the cool of the morning and then I can go about my day and do the other things I need to do.

It doesn't have to be something that involves a big trip or big blocks of time there other things it can be soul satisfying for us. Each of us and under what that is for you. You hear me promulgate a lot on this program to find that thing for you. Whether it's it's gardening or you have a black thumb. Everything that touches like a kill that I would try to get better at this and try to have a little bit more pay little more attention to plants and so forth.

So don't kill the in gray.

She's very good with them. I'm not. I don't have that kind of patience and I'm just it's just I just don't think that way, but I'm trying, and I do find enjoyment when you see a beautiful plant that some bulbs she hasn't blossomed with her just gorgeous and you can enjoy the. The labor against what Scripture says staying with Ecclesiastes chapter 3 look at this. There is a time for everything, you will know this, that the birds of the great some of this there is a time for everything in a season for every activity under the heavens to be born to die, plant and uproot time to kill time to heal. Time to tear down the time to build a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Time to scatter stones and a time to gather a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing a time to search and a time to give up a time to keep the time to throw away attempted tear and a time to mend time to be silent in the time to speak to love the time to hate the time for war and a time for peace.

What do workers gain from their toil list was with the Texas I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race is made everything beautiful in its time is also set eternity in the human heart. Yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to get. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live a listen.

This verse 13, that each of them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil. This is the gift of God. Can you find satisfaction in all your toil and labor is a caregiver. That's a hard question is because some the things we have to do seem relentless and grossly unfair and constraining.

And yet, I would say to you that this is the gift of God to find satisfaction in this. Have you asked God for this gift.

Have you asked to show you how you can find enjoyment in this.

We spent so much time asking for him to take it away from us, but do we ever ask him to help us find joy in it and satisfaction. That's a hard question is an maybe if somebody else ask you this. You probably balk at a little bit but I'm doing this for 36 years and I have learned is my experience that there is joy in this. It takes a little humility a little insight little courage little faith, not a lot of only six just a little bit to explore and see whether not you could have this in the midst of this I spent way too many years pleading and then demanding that God fix this and I cringe over those prayers, but I believe this verse and Ecclesiasticus. It's a gift of God to have joy in the midst of our labor and are we willing to trust with all of you and see what we can do in the midst of all these things find peace and to get in that fifth year and not be so reactive.

This is hopefully caregiver Mrs. Peter Rosenberger will be right
