Larry the cable guy your live. Piero Vern and I do not live your hope you do. Brian Roseburg as this is the nation's number one initial review was a family caregiver, Virginia 35 years of experience to the strong and help as you take care of someone who was how is the character what's going on with the character waterways to help caregivers to help things to do to help you stay safe and it all starts with you. Your headspace and heart space is a good place. Guess what the rest of you get a pretty good shot. Speaking of a pretty good shot at it will be introduce my cohost longtime producer of the show, and general all-around good guys, the bear of the boarding salt cell you know you love them. He's like school before COBIT all class piece John Butler the Celt of Mahdi discord, he's these legs before COBIT all class I don't well been been very busy a lot of things going on, but I wanted to jump right into some things we got for today I you know John. We love gadgets and we love to. We love anything that is going to help streamline the process of safety and health and everything else for family caregivers and I found these guys that popped up on my Facebook feed. Nothing to you. I know they were when I was just bondable business of this ad comes up and it is called fire avert this really sounds interesting. So I went looked this morning. I looked at the stuff and and let me tell Caleb about the saving lives and property is what fire avert is about and a firefighter seems Peter Thorpe created a home fire prevention product that stops kitchen fires after years of him going to fires at homes caused by unattended cooking. To me this is what is what every 4.5 minutes.

Invite US firefighters are called the homes to put out kitchen fires in these things could have been prevented if they had this device Harvard and this guy came up with this and and so are a result of the more I got to know what I thought this is just too cool so I want to have these guys on because I'm seeing so many of these things and Jon, I won't say this in public. But I've had this problem myself of unattended things on a host between you and me John, but I have this problem because I get distracted or something. And you know I'm doing some else in the house was filled with smoke and you know crap you and your crazy because everything the dogs barking. You know it I'm like this is ridiculous and and and and the life of a caregivers, crazy and so was worried that we have over love once it may be having some visual issues or dementia or whatever and I thought we could have these things on so I reached out and talk with Mark Preston for long time and then here's Peter Thorpe together found this thing. They're both on the phone with us and upmarket.

Give me what is your title that your you're the director of all things. Knowing development.

I help with finance and an overall help Peter with the operations of the company. Well, I'm glad to have you both your Peter I am so thrilled that you're here that you took time for this. This is it's an intriguing and wonderful thing. Necessity is the mother of invention and burn. If you didn't do it take us and into your story just a little bit of how this came about Apple expert. Thank you. You have a great show here. We love being a part of the bill. Thank you so yeah love you write the story my buyback God that you mentioned a career firefighter for over 15 years to run on a truck company. Am also a paramedic on the ambulance. There early on in the career start my target firefighter. I realize that every shift that I have we going to kick your when it was just kind of smoke from the stove or a full-blown kitchen fire that was just something I could bank on the every shift to be a kitchen fire about four years and of doing that we rent apartment complex and thinking some about them being cook and they got distracted they left their home we get there apartment for small mascot. We have our tools there adorable crawl under the smoke. The smoke alarms blaring the background and it should be done, but still in the kind I grabbed the fire truck back home that day to hit me. I really like you know only that smoke alarm that would be being concerned that still… Smoke one that still could communicate and work together.

We never were then called an image of kind of like a lightning bolt lightbulb. I tell you I can even leave that all the different fire call had been on in my career that point on the stove and turn itself off turned off, it would stay just thousands and thousands of property damage for different homeowners so now I get handed out, and then the firemen you not I'm not at night and I got a clean bill to get other people how to like we made little bit of money got a team together and a short 18 months later we had our first product you guys sing the shark tank.

I mean that is that is that is no small thing. Talk about that little bit. How was it was a little nerve-racking for your talk about that know not nerve-racking to be on your show… This is stress with his the first time we've heard that shortcake was fun not getting. You know they came Kathy people they came to our neighborhood. They were right down here in Provo, Utah is an open call and when my mentor that hate you shall down there and now you know what works you do not rock the company I woke up with what the heck and no one done this before.

This is how it happened they give you 62nd pitch your product to their judges there at the same time you're pinching there's two other people pitch on each side of you there there product in your 52nd you block out of their people are 5 feet away and you get 52nd and they say great thank you will contact yeah in a month for interested what they called me the next day Haley love that we wanted our interview and on the next month. There was probably like six different interview the next week they float down the LA and be found in that we did on the show we deal without very fortunate lucky good idea with Laura Groner on the show and shark tank was off and that was just the catalyst that the company needed plywood steak put your company about four years ahead of where it should have been this much publicity so much girls get people reached out to us. So the lot of fun going on shark tank was about the time you got there.

You had already drilled down into what your core message was you had your pitch down: was it like you just showed up a short take one day in had to do it. You'd you really had some prep work stages I guess is that is that a fair statement statement yeah, so they kind of producer to your two or three producers but they work with you for all the next almost a month and they could make a perfect opening spell your opening pitch the sharks you you work with them on that. I managed really what's cool not shark tank.

There is no BK could not case.again you go out there on the stage not the first time using the sharks and they just start negotiating and your aunt stayed for about an hour negotiating going back and forth and then bake the producers very kindly to back a minute and that's what we get on TV. Well, it sounds like to think they really wanted to set you up for success as best as they possibly could. Yeah, not so just going on there and shoot your message for them locate fiber. Fiber prevents fire. That's what it does more than that, like fiber is perfect for multi family cut customer is perfect for senior housing customers to purchase our every day homes but is also good for caregivers and people out there that are caring for someone else and we got a share Medi-Cal fiber to prevent fires but provide peace of mind. It allows people have a better quality of life because it's always there 24 seven protecting just not the home of the individual and so they think that shortcake is a great platform to share your message to the world.

Well it's it sounds like you and Mark you and I talked about this and as I mentioned to my mother has visual impairments and have a father that has Parkinson's and they live together and do they define the meaning we want to but you with mom not being able to see as well. This is been a concerning our buttons getting turned off properly and and so we started seeing the taught you not talk about the real-time applications that talk a little bit more about that. What this does is you see the. The continuing applications of this wonderful product. Thank you.

We we launched with the electric stove fire over which is Peter mentions is actively listening per smoke alarms that can be up to 60 feet away. These particular devices are very very easy to install. There's no tools required for the electrical install.

It just fits comfortably easily right behind the stove and wanted paint which is just a push of a button thinking this is a lifetime product it's powered so there's no need to change the batteries in this particular microphone it actively listening all the time and so when a smoke alarm does activate whether any of Peter mentioned maybe being so someone walked away. Maybe sit down and fall asleep. I mean we understand as you mentioned on your show. The fog here in these things, and weight of caregiving anywhere on you and you may put something on the stove and forget about it as you sit down and then you're just overwhelmed with exhaustion.

Well, the farmer never sleeps and were actively listening when he hears that it does then wait 30 seconds to give you a chance to respond potentially fan out the smoke and turn off your smoke alarm not been actively shutoff your stove immediately and now the source of the heat is gone and so whether they just simply forgot. Maybe they left the home and walked away.

Whatever distraction it may be fireworks on guard to protect those unattended kitchen fires.

We build devices for gas stoves as well. They do require a ranch to install. As you might imagine, but it's really just that they're very simple for the technology for microwaves and toasters.

You can plug 110 V device into a media space heater anything that you potentially could forget about it may tip over or blanket gets dropped on him on Firebird. Is there on guard to protect that the home and family. From these dangerous fires that occur one catching is that it's a device that goes between the whatever it happens to be. If it's a stove or a if it's up to 10 to 20 or one time doesn't really matter what it is side I'm guessing you key it to get to like like it. The test button on the smoke alarm that you have have and then the button on the device or white.

How does that work out and adjust and interrupt. If incense is this just this particular sound when so when you first hear Firebird to plunder Firebird in 20 plug it into the first time.

You don't push the test button on your smoke alarm for about 15 seconds month of firing years.

Your particular smoke alarm paradox work trained to listen to your particular smoke alarm and fireworks with all smoke alarms on the market and onto the next time that you need your stove on, or the space heater toaster and smoke on the started beat the butter smoke Firebird will hear it kill the key source to that of client and prevent it turning into a fire so fiber is prevention device. We turn off the key turkey for there's a fire.

Gotcha gotcha yes oh yes user smoke. The power is cut so there's no there's no extra stabbing them there may be a fire going on but that doesn't mention is that you're not adding more to that that great question there John.

It is what realizing that smoke proceeds fire and so go just from nothing to fire and smoke and smoke specially for skeletal smoke and even greater than oil-based smoke and smoke and so we can get rid of that market we can turn off the stone while not smoking a never get to fire either cleanup and fire will leave his cast-iron was out with Peter Thorpe and Mark precedent Firebird and this is just a fascinating invention by firemen who saw a need and said you know what I'm tired of being called these houses with all this comes difficult on of something that can be avoided. We as caregivers get this.

We know this, and I love what you said there Firebird never sleeps so that we can as caregivers in Roseburg will be right is not a preacher really is Peter Rosenberg in my 3 1/2 decades as a caregiver. I've spent my share of nights in the hospital sleeping and waiting room some foldout cot shares.

I'm Gracie Rosenberger in 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became I questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me. But over time I questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis. We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in a Tennessee prison.

We also recycle parts from donated lambs. All this is to point others to Christ.

The source and my help and strength, please visit standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting others standing without.com. I'm Gracie. I am staining with help and hope that is my wife Gracie from her CD, resilient, get a copy that it hopefully caregiver.com just click on the CD cover with their sheet is indeed resilient and Peter Ike. I'm on the phone here with Peter Thorpe and Mark precedent Firebird. Until you have a very tender place in my heart for paramedics.

Gracie has a what fume and her family, but there were a lot of that stuff and save the life of my wife was she was bleeding out of the side of the road.

She was a 17-year-old girl. She had this Rick and your brothers and sisters in the paramedic world and all came to her aid and so I would be amiss if I didn't bring this up and say thank you for all the lives that you have touched and in what you do, it means more than you could possibly know an answer.

Thank you because he scared her car caught on fire and and she was she was tremulous. It's a long story and it's a big story but it's this something just went out when I talk to guys who are in your industry who have whatever reason felt the need to put your life on the line in situations like that for strangers and to help people who cannot help themselves. It it is it is a deeply moving thing for me.

So thank you for that and thank you for what you done for this invention. You know you don't know the lives you don't know the pain that you say people from, you know, you never know the pain you're saved from unit of the pain you live with and and your preventing heartache beyond what people can really imagine it because you seen that heartache have achieved without word. Congress say that you shared again that our payday ductwork, really, that's not as great thank you and yeah but Firebird pain there, what we started the company's grown in corporate protect number 200,000 households across North America now and I found that we care a lot of that people that maybe are aging in place are disabled.

Whatever the situation there like Einstein never going unplug your stove because there so they're so worried about them cooking or leave the stove on, and for good reason there worried and that what we've learned to break the person's harder be with her horrible truck with a unplug stolen there not a lot of our dark freedom of quality of life is been taken away and Firebird. We found out getting them back better quality of life that allow them to cook them and make caregiver guilt statement knowing hey if they do fall think they do forget about it. Barbara can shop that still no fiber. Just the stories and testimonies we get from people about hey I'm honest cooking again or we had a really fun start out I'm on the house. Autistic kid and didn't want to start cooking and she was down at a neighbor's home. She ran out. Her son starts to cook some food smoke alarm goes off in all sorts talking instead of her kid exiting the home because rock for the day when head under the bed. There, scared, and mom comes home she even can smell smoke.

She knows it still is been turned off.

She's grateful for now she finds her kids hiding or the bad kind of firefight at the last anyone can do is to hide in a home. They wanted to exit so fiber is great. As for any and now you can imagine for anybody else to monitor than really hated yeah no kidding you got to mean something to not only you but everybody associated with this company of its it's one thing to come up with a cool gadget coproduct. It's another thing that has the kind of application, one that has a cut application that you guys do you you guys are expanding this into other products as well. Space heaters that kinda stuff as well.

From what I understand of them are correct on that PR you are at absolutely paper microwave you got so many people, especially maybe nesting years, or even can I cooking and micro to how to market you know a fork in the Olympic tinfoil on the microwave or whatever to work my mind went back to put 50 seconds and put 60 minutes instead microwave and so the lock appearing for microwave. Now you help and think that's what people it's been a lot of fun espresso maker. I've left out the monthly it's still really I was I was good thing when we get the dreaded early-morning from the instant brought couple to death that will a bit of unsolicited is like I my brain goes where directions have you thought of putting this in as like a built-in outlet like like new home construction or something like that absolutely so that we we are actively developing that right now but probably another two years out together certifications that he Firebird be as common as the household smoke alarm so fiber is made it out. It'll be the outlet in the wall.

One day yeah what was thing about this like kind of as a we have breakers and fuses for reason the very same reason that you have right now and one on about just you know built almost see John is an idea may judge a solution guy John Smalley doesn't just sit around and think of brilliant bodies like Billy Billy Sadowski from night shift. He just thinks of brilliant things all the time and never followed your great because anyway think of things like power strips that protect against surging to protect the electronics when in reality what we should be protected against is our loved ones and so we can interrupt her. I mean we can see this is Peter said being installed are not just for show but eventually as is a smart club throughout the house that that is actively listening that whenever there is smoke at their current going through that particular outlet to shut it off and that would enable or prevent that heat source from potentially continuing to two start a fire and smoke detectors that are integrated into the house wiring that could give you all kinds of stuff. So this is really fertile areas because listed were were down to the bottom of the out here in the 92% of people say they want to age their own home that something to happen unless we can keep them safe and this is a big part of it and Peter and Mark, I want to thank you when people want to get this where they go to Firebird.com. Absolutely if I could just add what we just read today you just you just underscored the national fire protection agency reports that at age 65 people are twice as likely be killed or injured in fires compared to the population at large.

It gets even higher.

Sadly, like three times when they're over 80 and you were urinating loved one needs one of these or someone in your that your caring for you feel that you want to increase that piece of mind.

Go to Firebird.com select the product that you want, whether electric or gas or a microwave, you're welcome to enter the code on check out caregiver and currently running the lowest price we've ever run Firebird listed $99 for the electrical device for caregivers yet additional 5% off today or when you hear this and so we encourage you to go to fire over.com and enter the keyword caregiver is very gracious of you guys and just thrilled to have you back on any updates that you have. Please let us know because this is a huge part of our message is to help people stay safe and help keep caregivers with Peter Thorpe, Mark Preston from Firebird Firebird.com is the place to go listless, go ahead and jump on this now folks, don't wave these are very affordable items here and what is your peace of mind worth. What is your safety.

It's time to act today. Thanks so much gasoline on the show. This is John Butler and I produce hope for the caregiver with Peter Rosenberger. Some of you know the remarkable story of Peter's wife Gracie and recently Peter talk to Gracie about all the wonderful things that have emerged from her difficult journey. Take a listen Gracie. When you envision doing a prosthetic limb outreach. Did you ever think that inmates would help you do that, not in a million years. When you go to the facility run by core civic and you see the faces of these inmates that are working on prosthetic limbs that you have helped collect from all of the country that you put out the plea for and their disassembly sell these legs like what you have your own prosody and arms and arms everything when you see all this. What do you make me cry because I see the smiles on their faces and I know I know what it is to be locked someplace where you can't get out without somebody else allowing you to get out course, being in the hospital so much and so long and so that these men are so glad that they get to be doing as as one man said something good family with my hands. Did you know before you became an amputee that parts of prosthetic limbs could be recycled now had no idea and I thought a peg leg.

I thought of wooden legs. I never thought of titanium and carbon lags and flex the sea legs and all that. I never thought about that as you watch these inmates participate in something like this, knowing that there there helping other people don't walk there, providing the means for the supplies to get over there. What is it due to you, just on the heart level. I wish I could explain to the world. What I see in here and I wish that I could be able to go and say the this guy right here Denise go to Africa with that.

I never not feel that way out every time you know you always make me have to leave. I don't want to leave them. I feel like I'm at home with them and I feel like we have a common bond that would've never expected that only God could put together.

Now that you've had experience with it what you think of the faith-based programs.

The core civic offers. I think they're just absolutely awesome and I think every prison out there should have faith-based programs like this because the return rate of the man that are involved in this particular faith-based program and other ones like it, but I know about this one are is just an amazingly low rate compared to those who don't happen and I think that says so much that has anything to do with me just has something to do with God using somebody broken to help other broken people. If people want to donate or use prosthetic limbs, whether from a loved one who passed away or you know somebody well groomed.

You've donated some of your own for them to have it out of the do that please go to standing with hope.com/recycle staining with hope.com/recycle. Thanks Grace
