In addition to all the challenges of caregiving, many family caregivers struggle under the additional burden of being treated poorly.  From accusations of stealing to abuse, the heartache of poor treatment wears down the already burdened hearts of countless caregivers.

Sadly, the isolation of caregiving keeps this issue in the dark, and abused caregivers may feel they're all alone in this.

We talked about this on the show, and let callers share their stories.

And here you spouse with difficult diagnosis trauma, mental illness, a baby, there's somebody who's taking care of an alcoholic or an addict.

That's chronic impairment where you fight a chronic impairment, unified carrier, so how to help the caregiver. What we do show for caregiver Welty.

What we do, shall procure and because if the caregiver goes down just what happens to the loved one. We think that through.

For if the caregiver goes down.

What happens to the person there caring for so it's always two-for-one deal. I'm been doing this myself known in my 35th year and I've learned the hard way. Some of the past that we talk about on the show pass to safety, emotional, physical, professional, financial most important spiritual you see it, we all start here on the show with the caregiver's heart and if the heart is in the squarely place. What chance does the wallet half. If you are struggling with bitterness and resentment here.

Guilt all these kinds of things. How you think this could affect every other area of your life and that's what separates this show from anything else out there addressing the needs of the family caregiver effort offered all the platitudes when you bid a caregiver for 35 years, you've heard all the platitudes you take care yourself. Get some rest. You know all that Stuff, but I've never heard anybody come with conviction and and clarity in a way that caregivers understand on how to engage spiritually with Scripture, the word of God in relationship with Christ and how that permeates into your life as a caregiver. And so, yes, but since I never heard it. I started doing it and that's why the show is here and I'm very grateful that AFR has caught the vision and has seen fit to share this with this entire audience and now we have other networks of join with us to his radio network South Carolina Truth Network based in North Carolina and other feelings all across the country. Here, in the end the world now are our people are our darling and I got a very different, but as a missionary in Tonga and she uses tier that we talk about of the show. As she ministers their sheeter family minister in Tonga way over there in the South Pacific. And so the deed, the need for caregiving supersedes every border every race, every religion, it's the human condition, and I speak fluent caregiver on the show, but let me let you know something, it's our St. savior's native tongue. I've learned to speak caregiver but that's his native tongue over to talk about that, to date, I get a special topic and normally ask you some things that I want to call it and give me your attribute answer or if you know this particular song whatever and I'll probably do that today to everything so Italian, but I'm actually doing this particular show this topic because my mother asked me to do it and when you mother ask you to do something you've you try to accommodate that. And so my mother asked me this and as she listens on Alexa and every Saturday morning. I have to remind them of how to get back on Alexa and it's it's always fun.

Mom's and dad's ear to it and I my parents are both highly intelligent, educated people, but for whatever reason I deficit my dad about this and he'll get a charge of this without you. He's a captain of the Navy. Dr. ministry and yet he never bothered to to really engage with computers and so it's very frustrating.

The moms get some visual impairments.

She can't see as well. So everything is to be audio will then they strutted they try to talk with Alexa you don't talk with less you command Alexa executive play this or do this and they want to talk about Alexa's relationship with her parents and how she struggling with bitterness and the disc so IIII have fun with my parents on that with mom and I talked and dad and I talk every week before the show we taught throughout the week and and she asked me about this this topic that will get it to discuss today and that is when a caregivers taking care of someone who was mean to who treats them poorly and I I've got several people that come to mind in in that I'm thinking of one of them is a young man who took care of his father, who just just mean man and the young man did and and I wanted to ask you how you feel about that if you had that scenario we are taking care of somebody you're treated poorly or maybe maybe taking care of somebody in the family of that love one, or whatever your extended family or friends treat you poorly treat you mean it or does or somehow disparage has it been your experience. 888-589-8840 888-589-8840 if that's been your experience that you had somebody treat you poorly in this and you try to take care of and and and it doesn't necessarily mean that you're trying to somehow rag on the person that you're caring for they have bad days sometimes medication sometimes is the disease sometimes are just being a jerk.

It happens sometimes. Where do it. I know I know my track record and and it is part of our human condition, but I want to know how you deal with it. 888-589-8840 888-589-8048. I am going to give you a musical trivia question because it said I think it applies to what were talking about here so if you know this ultimately little slower. I you know that would that is also relevant to what were to be talking about today just learning to deal with the fact that you go to be treated poorly.

It's going to happen will happen if you're a believer it'll happen. If your caregiver Jesus promised if your believer and I don't know why were surprised that we are working that we can engage with that, but sometimes there are special cases with with caregivers about what you know that that song feudal lyrics that sold 888-589-8840 888-589-8842 important I and love. There's a great story but that's only nominal engage my wife on that in another time, but it's a it's important of the first line of that is Horton line for us to remember in the midst of these very difficult times and some of you been treated very poorly. I know you have got the calls and and it's just it's it's a hard thing when you are trying you're so stretched and you're so tired and you're so worn out and you're so discouraged.

Then you treated like garbage and this is happening on a regular basis. I was doing a conference up in Alaska one time of nurses and I asked for show.

I don't know why did this just out of out of just whatever off the top my head. I just asked if any of you ever been grabbed by patient and 100% of them raise their hands and then I asked.

Have any of you been choked by patient or level that you're caring for and nearly 100% of their lives filled full room and nearly 100% of restraints.

For moment and I showed them how to get out of choke holds and grabs I'm 2nd° black belt in upper Quito and I thought well this would be a useful piece of information you don't have to be physically huge to do it, it's there is a technique and you can do it without hurting the other person but you can make sure that your Savior extricated from that. So we spent some time on a thunk. But you know what, this is the reality of being a caregiver you're going to get in situations where either you physically or being hurt are mostly being hurt or both how to get out of the honey deal with talk about that some more.

You love it and she's she's the real deal may she's no Kim Singer and I love listen to her sing I were talking about.

Have you ever been treated poorly as a caregiver.

Have you ever struggled under that kind of disparaging thing where you're dealing with somebody you doing the best you can and in their responding and I don't know that were going to be able to address these things and get them get any kind of resolution that was can make you feel better today, but the purpose of this today is to bring us together as a caregiving community and so yeah this is the problem and let people know that they're not alone in this, because a lot of people are harboring this by themselves. The you've heard me talk about this is, in my book, hopefully caregiver wherever books are sold and and you can you see this theme throughout the show in the books podcast everything else. There are three eyes, every caregiver struggles with everyone's and if you haven't struggled with all three of these young been a caregiver long enough, you lose your independence. You lose your identity, you get lost in someone else's story we we stopped speaking in first person singular know people ask is how we do it well you know we had a bad nighters. She's not doing well or he's not doing well and I'm on this show.

That's what you those you been listening for sometime. You know that I want to ask you every time you call any caller. How are you feeling and I want to hear it in first person singular. I don't want to hear you talk about.

We, us, them or her unit. Whatever, it's you. If you have are you feeling that's the first thing we could start off with someone assist caregivers to learn how to speak in her own voice, as of the third that we struggle with is isolation and end in the whole world is coming to grips with isolation out to the covert, 19 but caregivers been dealing with this since this is the human condition of caring for someone else. You become isolated in caring for someone who has some type of chronic impairment and so in that isolation. That's were dark thoughts fester.

So what were trying to do on this show with this topic today is I want to let people know who been treated poorly and there it isolation and they're just tuning into the show for the first time or maybe somebody sent him the podcast of the show or whatever.

I want you to know that you not alone, that this is part of the human condition. If it's part of the human condition. There's a path through Scripture. It's just that simple. That then mean it's an easy path doesn't mean that it's it's going to be a path that is without you know challenges, but there is a path because as part of the human condition, and God did not just dump us on this earth and not give us guidance to be able to trust him and follow him through this thing and and also walk joyfully with him in the midst of no matter what. This is promised to us throughout Scripture. And so that's the whole purpose of this days. I want those who work for the maybe the first time hearing that.

Oh, wait a minute, this is having other people to want them to hear that today so that they know that they're not alone limit. For example, let me go to Janice in Kentucky Janice good morning, how are you feeling #I want to carry a ride not far that have a caring guy was legally blind, communicate, caring, and I just blocked or how I find what she look avoidant and she would sometimes apologize about time he stayed mad because I had felt a tremor brought it back.

How did you handle that.

I got really mad when they walked out. I came back in about half an hour night out.

I thought I want.

I didn't want to be accused in more and now he never did come right out and say you spell it after that.

But she did say somebody spell it that I could find it in her apartment each time it was that he was fine and she couldn't kind thing and you get the family and I can even check it that Monday time you know there's a everything that I do talk about this about both of them so lot of the call.

The Delta doctrine and as the 3W's 3W's weight water walk and when you get into an altercation situation weight just a few moments just just just wait, we don't have to run every fight we get a ticket to an and we can just wait and if we can't do that we can drink some water because that gives us a chance to kind of put something in her mouth assess words and cool off drink to think about it, not not a coat.coffee.red bull for sure that I want to get letters from red bull fans. I just I just say and when you're in a high altercation situation. That is something you might want to stay away from.

And then the third thing is just take a walk and that's what you did just just get out of the house go go for walk around the block. Whatever just cool off a little bit and and let your let your heart coming catch its breath as well and this sounds like that's exactly what you did is hurt. How bad that you knew what you were talking about, but I do not doubt that you were planning to do you know this song that's about it so Evan came down and Lori fell back out and have not teamed making how well and that brings us to Black Lake that today because I we have to understand that heaven came down just that phrase alone. Heaven came to he condescended down to us night it it's it's it's heaven came down, and if we understand that he had to condescend to us. It kinda changes perspective doesn't yesterday.

We couldn't go to him no and so and so would we condescend to others who are struggling. We are only mirroring what has been done for us, and in it. It's not that were doing this because were so noble it's it's is not that we do this because were so wonderful people because we all need a Savior were all sinners but were doing this as a reflection of what he's done for us and once we can get that ingrained in her mind that's one of that's that's the path that's the path to safety. And this is understanding. Okay, not what would Jesus do, what did Jesus do, and he came down heaven came down to glory filled my soul and that a in that a great him on my favorite Gracie when she was three years old.

That was the first him she ever saying in public.

She was three years old. She sang at First Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Florida one Sunday night she got up to sing and her grandfather loved for Gracie to sink and Gracie saying it one volume which was full out. I may just let it rip and and he just was so delighted. Here's little three-year-old girl can if they're just belting out.

I be like Ethel Marvin Delta get out below. Ed it was at her for her grandfather did it just delighted him to know in and but today even today when she sings this in a play little bit slower forward a letter to sing and not tea when she sings it. It'll absolutely break your heart.

It is so beautiful when at the Savior made me home. You know, it just it it it was it. It's beautiful to listen to her do it and but but it's one of the sings will remember that heaven came down and get decanting to edge at your old bottle. I got a T. This phrase would you would would you remind me of the story of Jeff Foxworthy.

Does this bit about he's the 30 can't find the remote control for the TV and he yells out somebody stole the remote and his wife said that's right Jeff. They came in here bypassed all the silver all aside all the jewelry and he went straight for your remote so that the Zada is that resonate with you little bit yes right like they came in here to bypass everything and stole your remote and nine in it.

I appreciate the fact that you were able to just get away. Take a break come back and do it. But did you feel like you were able to at some point make a lasting impression that it's that for boundaries for your own dignity sake that you say you know what I'm here to help you don't treat me this poorly. That kind of thing were you able to effectively do that or was it lost order now. I think after I kept my walk really care that I wasn't coming back and get it to me 30 minutes to get around the block and when I came back I explained to her that that she didn't have anything that I needed a reason for me to take it from her anything that can build.

I had picked out of my Type of thing that God he can care attitude, Christ the Lord the Christian is valid. I like the limited market to get an advocate for free and I lengthened her legal person to take care of her. She didn't have anybody like that that I did do not have medical things for her and take her to Dr. something like that. It was a constant. I'm here if you need me, and she decided that I wasn't dancing take anything away from her that you had your own TV remote. You did need hearses that was. She decided that I will thank you for this it and I appreciate you sharing this because I know that was painful. I know that was you know you're doing the best you can urology do not you know and all of a sudden she's accusing you of stealing and how many folks listen the show today are taking care of somebody have to give somebody in been accused of stealing all my goodness. 888-589-8840 if you want to share that story.

But how many of you want to been done doing this but did I go back to heaven came down in the glory filled my soul he condescended. That's the whole point. John Peterson wrote this him and you know, oh what a wonderful, wonderful day. They'll never forget it and and when we understand that that's what start seeing again. The whole point of the show instinct to delve into the heart condition of the caregiver. If like you said she was a Christian you are Christian and if you have someplace to go to when those moments knock you off your feet, you can get back up on you nor the path is that you're able to stand more securely saying okay I know who I belong to. I know what's going on with me and I know this person is sick and they're not well or there in fear or they have dementia or whatever it doesn't matter.

Sundowner's all the above, but these are things certainly after dealing with addiction and these are things that are important for us to remember. But sometimes with take a walk around the block like Janice Janice, thank you so much for calling today. Thank you very much and thanks for sharing your heart and appreciate you list the show. This is Rosenberg. This is shown as a family caregiver eight 885-8988 and look back to hoping caregiver this is Peter Rosenberg. This is the nation's show as a family. I love the idea, but every rotation you put this love in my heart. Some of you remember Keith Green and profound impact on Christian music in the body of Christ worldwide and that is the that is the sulfurous carriers you put this love in my heart. If we if we understand that the well that were drawn from is not our own sense of nobility and goodness, it gives a different perspective for what were doing is a character. 888-589-8840 888-589-8840 were talking about. Have you ever been treated poorly by the person you're taking care of the last caller Janice Galindo. She's she shared that she was accused of stealing a batch. A lot of people had that I have different abundance.

Think your husband with dementia and other issues going on in debt was sundowner's and edit even Tempe Beach.

He became very, very mean and hostile towards accused of terrible things they been married for almost 60 years and this man adored his wife unknown. The family for years and out I went over to visit and she just be in tears and one of things I I encouraged her to do the head that set up to do this is to hire somebody to take care of him in the evening times and she would just stay detached from that and she was able to do that. But she felt guilty about doing it again. A lot of times people say what I have more money I can do this well. These people are putting money, but she did wonder she thought she had to do this 24 seven with him and she was just becoming more and more strained and and he was becoming more more mean at night. Sundowner's is a terrible thing.

Some of you so you know what I'm talking about and she was able to do that and it worked. It worked for and all she needed was some nutty guy with a radio show for caregivers to look at her and say you know it's okay for you to have somebody else take care of him in the evening time that the professional is not emotionally involved. He can't punch all the buttons with with in his dementia and it's okay for you to do this and you could almost see the air just kind of explode out of her.

She says really set okay. It's really okay they did and there was able to choose able to get some rest. Sometimes impairments will do that sometimes just being a jerk sometimes are just being just sinful people and that's why I did the musical bit this morning with heaven came down heaven came down. He condescended to us and you look at when Jesus was on the cross. Luke 2324 what he say father forgive them for they know not what they do and no those are Jesus's own words.

Look at Joseph with his brothers. You know and and they certainly treated him poorly.

You look at David with King Saul and David honored King Saul postmortem.

In fact the guy that that took credit for killing Saul even though he didn't do it, but he took credit for thinking that he get in good with David. David end up having him killed so your words you did you touch that the Lord's anointed.

Your words on your death is on your head, and he refused to to return that you don't render evil for evil.

First Thessalonians 515 there was a first Scripture verse I learned way back at the church. My dad passed that in an Atlanta just a little kid and there out there laughing while their mother listen to this right now because Sunday school teacher thing pulled out her hair dealing with me every week and I think that she's gone on to glory them, but I think should be please that I learned something in class that so I was a little bit of a challenge, but say okay… Let's just leave it right there. Nobody's gonna get hurt Jean in Texas Jean good morning, how are you feeling great, thank you. Well, you took care your husband to husband's car actor has been my Care of her twenty-year and part of that time. In the latter part of his feet. He was in a nursing home and I wrote up home for caregiver that he had in the nursing home and started a whole real retail line of poetry for me on my professional Paulette and tell anyway. Years passed second husband died and I with Adam needing and that one who works in our community fork people helping them into kind of the same way you are Not on the radio anyway. She said you have a Palm for caregiver and I think what yeah and I read her the Palm that I wrote for this caregiver to my first cut the nursing home because like an angel sheet that it's very nice that she said I want a Palm for family care giver caregiver and I thought about all my poems and I said I don't have one, but I can if anyone should write it. It should be me and I went home and I wrote this poem in 15 minutes and now I would like to share. I would love to hear okay to family caregivers with a lot of sometime the foal it's weary and longs to have a rat caring for a loved one is not easy though.

You try your fat.

Hopefully your loved one can appreciate all you do that sadly it is too often that the opposite is true.

It's okay to think of itself. It's important to take a break. Ignoring your own health. It's not selfish. It is a big day and if it time you wander anyone really care nanny have you in their heart and all fell in their prayers. When did you write that probably about two years ago is beautiful: it is a beautiful point. And that is you. Did you write this is what you do now for much full-time as write poetry yet yet and I write custom poetry fell, people have a need for national occasion.

I interviewed them and they gave me all of that content through the interview and then I write an original rhyming problem. It can be framed. Let's is this a lovely gift… I've encouraged a lot of caregivers to do is to write in and some people some people are reticent to do so because I think will be good with you not writing to to become the poet laureate of the country you're writing because this is something that's in you that needs to come out and and in a way that is often Mary Warren. It is incredibly healing and would did you write poetry before you were married in care before you were caregiving on the cost of is that something that that was involved in your life or something you can picked up later in life are what well I might give actually I can talk to different group and one of my talk that how I became a poet and it a very funny, and long story I won't need you now even begin to target that basically I take everyone it went and God-given, and I didn't know I could write poetry until I went forth to an English class when I within high school and we had an excellent English teacher and he required at the end of our poetry unit that everyone in the senior class. Write an original rhyming at an action stated that he required it to write a poem in Shakespearean stamp that and that the very difficult to follow and I wrote for home and that's what the competition and I won the competition and then subsequently over the air. It was published in three different national publication so that with my first pump that I've never had a summons like that is school ready, Shakespearean style, but I could never figure out how to weave in the all in Malvern them in Shakespearean style that you know that's what you would you race South Carolina you applicant wave at this how does this work is work that you know of. I shall call. I shall call y'all but that's what you're still writing and you didn't go ahead. I caught poetry into language in French and English bowl and then I retired from teaching career, and I all my life after I you know what Stephen keychain. I thought I would love to write poetry for people and so when I retired from my teaching career. I work and figured out how to darkness does not that I have and at all came together, and I've been writing that type of poetry for 25 years for people so I'm not a young person anymore, but I'm now enjoying life to the following. This is like you are and I'm glad that you're still writing and I'm glad that you're writing for other people in your drawing on a while you drawing on a a real depth to be able to offer this to folks Jean in its it's it's a beautiful gift that you give, you have a website that I do doubtless give it out to somebody needs a some some stuff there. Let's give it up.

People go take a look at what you do here what is what is your website debit card personal poetry think I can feed because I'm incorporated personal poetry, Inc.com but I hope some folks will check it out and maybe use your services, personal poetry, Inc. because I'm a big fan of caregivers digging deep into their souls to pull out the beauty this in their lives and offer what they have in any you know and and whether it's music, poetry, gardening, woodworking, I don't care what it is. Let your soul breathe. By doing these things and Jean.

I can't think of a better way that the model that than what you just said this morning so thank you for sharing it. Was I really appreciate okay list this is hopefully caregiver this break will be right back don't talk today about a painful thing to treat important been treated accused of stealing his assault somebody has verbally talk about that today will you ever struggled to trust God when lousy things happen to you. I'm Gracie Rosenberger in 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became it. I questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me but over time I questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God that understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis.

We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in a Tennessee prison. We also recycle parts from donated lambs. All this is to point others to Christ. The source of my help and strength, please visit standing with help.com to learn more and participate in lifting others that standing without.com. I'm Gracie. I am staining with help 589 888-589-8840. Have you been treated poorly secured.

Have you been treated been accused of things have you been assaulted all those kinds of things were talking about today. We do this or do this in the context of Scripture because everything everything is in the context of Scripture and and if if you want to be an atheist to be a caregiver. You're welcome to it. Let me know how that works out for you, but I'm in my 35th year of this and I'm telling you that there is no condition that we struggle with as caregivers on the heart level of the scenarios not initially covered Scripture. There's nowhere in Scripture were aghast. Think of his wife of 35 years through 80 surgeries in both legs amputated that there but there are plenty of places in Scripture where it talks about the heart condition. The human condition of what's going on with us that we are fearful that where angry that were were resentful that were despairing, all those kinds of things. That's all there. So whatever you're dealing with the heart condition of it is covered Scripture and there is a path for us to become healthier and stronger. Now you hear me talk about the on the show a lot that the goal is not to be happy. I that's an elusive goal. We will be happy along the way and you know happiness comes but the goal is to be healthy. Healthy, financially healthy, physically healthy, emotionally healthy spiritually being happy happy happy all the time time time seems a little bit odd to me so I had a cup that's not COBIT that's hayfever the horses every day getting a barn full of hay and I wear a mask. I feel stupid where to bask out there because there's nobody around me and him wearing a mask, but I went to mass because of hayfever, not because it coverts about the pitch so I want to go to live in Arkansas live good morning, how are you feeling live well below Slim Jeanette in Louisiana Jeanette demoted her Long Island all you feel okay that are not good for Allawi but I said you took care of your mom who was abusive by acetal all of the decent black and I at four and five secure following and a younger brother. So I went to lowlife man like dad and I left went to California and 73 and I come back in 89 and say what a man I was the one for taking care of my mother, my thoughts, but my father with a damp mop with this type of the collapsed math but anyway she did. She didn't get no banner and she gets Bob work March the need to be in an arch and all she still less abuse it fell crying and crying and crying. I did a lot of analysis 23 yellow trial when I was in California none God led me back to come back home the lead back to when I was a child. She used the thing in acquiring my dad with the deacon and added bacon but she can't delight. But anyway, you just have to cry me not to let it go on you – can hold onto lit if you hold onto that what you going to do with it an you know make you become disabled when disturbed and unhappy and you know – so let alone that's right if the me ask you question Jeanette, let me distinguish it so your mother abuse you as a child in the later on in life, you still had to take care of her and she was still a pretty abusive woman.

What if you found that has spoken to that deep hurt and given you some strength and some encouragement in this is her or him his song as her last lecture line that I state anchor to God every sense I was little, I got baptized when I was nine and I will stay in my room a lot. It little girl and and I did just know that God was there with me and he was taking care of me and Vanness I got older I end up admin myself and the nano hospital that I mattered. When you envision doing a prosthetic limb outreach. Did you ever think that inmates would help you do that, not in a million years.

When you go to the facility run by core civic and you see the faces of these inmates that are working on prosthetic limbs that you have helped collect from all of the country that you put out the plea for and their disassembly sell these legs like what you have your own prosody and arms and arms everything when you see all this. What do you make me cry because I see the smiles on their faces and I know I know what it is to be locked someplace where you can't get out without somebody else allowing you to get out course, being in the hospital so much and so long and so that these men are so glad that they get to be doing as as one man said something good family with my hands. Did you know before you became an amputee that parts of prosthetic limbs could be recycled now had no idea and I thought a peg leg. I thought of wooden legs. I never thought of titanium and carbon legs and flanks the sea legs and all that. I never thought about that as you watch these inmates participate in something like this, knowing that there there helping other people they'll walk there, providing the means for the supplies to get over there. What is that due to you, just on the heart level. I wish I could explain to the world. What I see in here and I wish that I could be able to go and say the this guy right here Denise go to Africa with that.

I never not feel that way out every time you know you always make me have to leave. I don't want to leave them. II feel like I'm at home with them and I feel like that we have a common bond that would've never expected that only God could put together. Now that you've had experience with it what you think of the faith-based programs. The core civic offers. I think they're just absolutely awesome and I think every prison out there should have faith-based programs like this because the return rate of the man that are involved in this particular faith-based program and other ones like it, but I know about this one are. It is just an amazingly low rate compared to those who don't happen and I think that says so much that doesn't have anything to do with me just has something to do with God using somebody broken to help other broken people.

If people want to donate or use prosthetic limbs, whether from a loved one who passed away or you know somebody well groomed. You've donated some of your own for them to do, how to how they do that please go to standing with hope.com/recycle staining with hope.com/recycle X grace.
