This is hope for the caregiver, the nation's number one show for the family caregiver. I am Peter Rosenberger bringing you three decades of experience to help you stay strong and healthy as you take care of someone who was not. It would do that, simply through volume volume that's the key thought, oh, were glad to have you with as you would be on the show 877-655-6755's 877-655-6755 and it is a just a delightful day into the ceiling greatly into the sea was a great day to start being a healthy caregiver, healthy caregivers make better caregivers.

If you want to follow along on Facebook live. You can restrain the show that we put it out on our YouTube channel little bit later and that is hope for the caregiver on Facebook, YouTube channel is hope for the caregiver. I try to be consistent and our twitter account is hope.

The number four caregiver and in our podcast which is frequent up at the show out there in full segments and then clips of it and the podcast is caregiver podcast.come coming. How hard is that we try to make things very easy and friendly.

And speaking of easy and friendly. Here is the barren of the board. The salt of the sale, the Earl of engineering. The man who put the word care into care to do the honors or it is John Butler the Count of Monte disco everyone might might might every time I hear like a account wanting Chris a reference II think of short of course you do. Yeah well it's I have to wear I have to wear a cervical collar.

Sometimes when you talk that's my job as I'm here play the part of the audience and you know if there's anything about caregivers well got looking for. I'm sorry.

I am a little bit dressed up. I just came from retractable so well you know I respected a high well thank you I ask myself on that sharp I will I I am speaking tonight. Later on in a church in went east of here okay and Gratian are actually going over there and speak and so looking forward to that. So I will be flying out of here. There is really should log on to the Facebook life hearing. Peter got good cufflinks on and everything. Well now I'm you know I got an image to I guess Gracie did not get all loving you really she is more, she looks famously to a ticket, I posted a picture of her today she was mad because she likes to go after church Sheila Scott okay and he or she likes to go is a waffle house off left.

Now, if I remember right you get likes motor cover Snow today was I was a dull tobacco but had the fiesta omelette with jalapenos in it, which is always good to have jalapenos and all I can stuff while you're on the air. Absolutely all it's just really stuck. You know you should have somebody advising you on but not all. That's me for 50 yeah thanks very much like a religion.

We got a lot to cover today and I need to get to our caregiver tip of the day. Our caregiver tip of the day what is it again caregiver tip of the day. Now I caregiver tip of the day. Brought to you by your appeal Tennessee AARP.org/TN and this is kind of a satirical, but I was thinking about it today and I was doing some reading something this morning and I saw the difference this learned to embrace quiet more than silence. How I learned to embrace quiet more than silence little by that you can give somebody the silent treatment and you could have. Coming through the silent treatment. We, we, but we've all seen that we've all done what I have out of you… I'm gold medal winner I don't forget I am the crash test dummy of caregiver. So if you could fail at it. I have failed so and you can give somebody the silent treatment and communicate fury and rage and all kinds of things but being quiet is something altogether different.

That is something internally going on with you and your settling yourself down on my amiss CD I got a CD called Psalms for the caregiver on iTunes, Amazon, and spot a fine everything else and I would really recommend you listen to it because is very calming and the first him that I play on a just a panel arrangement and Gracie sings about half the songs and if you haven't heard Gracie saying will do yourself a favor and because a girl girl can really sing and but the first him is there is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God. A place where sin cannot molest near to the heart of God.

Quiet is much different than silent and quiet is is something that we as caregivers can embrace for own heart for own souls. We got so much noise.

There's like a wall of noise as a caregiver.

It did its it's hard to say it any better than that.

It's a wall of noise. It just comes at us and it's very hard for us to be quiet in our hearts we have to work at that that is not something that will come naturally to us.

We have to number 118, number two, seek it number three actively work towards that. But it is attainable that you could have that client place in your own heart. No matter what's going on around you and that is critical to us as caregivers that if we don't learn to settle ourselves down and we get it we get so pulled into all this noise and we get so turned around and everything else. It it it will cripple us in and in those of you who are already in that place understand exactly what I'm talking about.

For those you new to the show. By the way if you never heard the show before were we are distributed through the whole country on Salem radio network and I'm very grateful to have them of the Truth Network were in Alaska to Miami and you're just now tooting anything at this is a chauffeur. Caregivers are you kidding me. No I'm not kidding you were all killed each other.

If we are all about strengthening the family caregiver and you I'm not to tell you how to do the one done task very often. You know we got that once you got it you got it you don't need really a lot of constant reminders of how to deal with doctors or hospitals or give a shot or whatever, but we as caregivers need regular recalibration of how to maintain calm us in the midst of some very, very difficult things, maintaining quiet maintaining quiet seats. See that's why he's the Count of Monte disco. That's why he is there in the booth ensconced behind the glass metal always medically sealed, neglect, and you don't because we do. We we've got to bring that quiet into her heart. It's attainable. I promise you it is a promise you it is and I talked way too many people that that if you if you really boil it down to what they're looking for they're looking to be settled. They feel so unbalanced that they feel so distant, disoriented, and they want to be settled Monday stuck to settle you. That's it that the lack of money can make it more unsettling. I agree with that but money stuck settle, you can be settled in the midst of craziness. Now how do I know this will go back and look in the book of acts and you'll see were Paul and Silas at midnight after being beaten and thrown into prison were singing hymns.

Now I don't know how many we all been beaten and thrown in prison lately John you're really coming to stay out of the covers just one going to just walk away. So your job, but you know how many of us would be singing hymns and that kind of situation. What did they know about being settled about being quiet about being settled in their own hearts that allowed them to do that is whatever they know.

I think that would be very helpful to us and they knew just like that him says on Psalms for the caregivers one us a really recommend you get this it will help with this.

There is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God. A place where sin cannot molest near to the heart of God. And I would that I love playing that him and enough plated thousands of times in a just I just love it and that's how I settle myself to what you doing to settle yourself down. What might be that early morning cup of coffee. It can be. That's on the back porch which is not a quiet place or silent placement is a quiet place right you were not looking for silence were looking for quite in and quiet is a state of being. I'm convinced of that.

I'm just truly convinced so that's our caregiver tip of the day is look for that and we got a lot to tryst with a wife is posting on Facebook live. She said I shall not go silent good to that could night, I shall not if you doing YEAH Mo I did go silent anywhere. I believe that the woman is is full.

Swallowing Bill Pullman from Independence Day actually known as Dylan Thomas, God let Gracie God love you, and when she sings it coins me down and of watch this often with her and I think there's something about music that does that and in and Hans Christian Anderson said, where words fail music. Music speaks and something about that just settles your spirit down how many of you all right now are not settled in your spirit right now. You all are just agitated and feel very discombobulated.

This is the time to stop. Let's just, was to start collecting our thoughts and move towards a place of being quiet. Okay, later on in the show. We've got a very special guest at the bottom. The Howard Jackie said Jacqueline's real name, which I call Jackie Sheppard she's got her new book silent takeover how the body hijacks the mine you want to miss that. And a lot of things go your calls as well. 877-655-6755 and also I've got what I need you to do some form.

If you don't mind please go up to standing with hope.com I will go to Africa in two weeks and Jon, I want to try to figure out to call in from Africa you can help me with this right will will will re-task the satellite absolute okay we'll figure something out but were going to Africa with the prosthetic limb and ministry of standing with hope after Gracie gave both of her legs. This was her vision to do this I got a couple team members. It could really use some support going there there helping raise one, in particular Gerald about winching names, but Gerald and senior props the disk with this.

I need some help with with these guys to help get them over the edge. It's expensive to go over there but it's a great work were given the gift that keeps on walking. I mean, go back and in the book of acts again with in chapter 3 were silver and gold have a number such as I have a given the name of Jesus stand up and walk. That's what we do and they do, I won't… Telling buddy I just said what I'm get ready so you just just can keep this twixt us. But I remember one time of Franklin Graham was asking about our work over there and I told us, and frankly get some the people standing to look like a Benny him to say being played backwards if you don't get that count yourself. They don't know about that don't tell you about that but that was well. He cut a look. He cut it just kind of eased away from me. If you ever had somebody just eased away from you. John that's well this is hopefully caregiver would write back.

Have you ever struggled to trust God when lousy things happen to you. I'm Gracie Rosenberger, 1983 I experienced a horrific car accident leading 80 surgeries in both legs and became questioned why God allowed something so brutal to happen to me.

But over time I questions changed and I discovered courage to trust God and understanding along with an appreciation for quality prosthetic limbs led me to establish standing with help more than a dozen years we been working with the government of Ghana and West Africa, equipping and training local workers to build and maintain quality prosthetic limbs for their own people on a regular basis. We purchased ship equipment and supplies and with the help of inmates in Tennessee prison. We also recycle parts from donated lambs.

I am staining with help, you know, first off that moment of silence just before Stevie Ray Vaughn comes on is actually appropriate. It really, but it's a call to the crossbar you feel like you caught in the crossfire as a caregiver. Welcome back to the show for caregivers about caregivers hosted by caregiver. This is Peter Roseburg bringing you three decades, not one, not to but three decades of experience as a caregiver to help you stay strong and healthy as you take care of someone who is not the number is 877-655-6755 and I got a very special guest on the phone with me right now Ashley breaks Ashley with us always a treat to have you here Ashley how you feeling I listen before we get to why you're calling here. You got to help us introduce our section list or segment for this section is called ours are today senior moment. You ready for this. This is a high honor. Are you ready for this.

Okay all you have to do is say today, senior moment and go ahead and say that already volatile because we had a technical difficulty with somebody was caught. The crossbar one more time. Ashley Joe, you know, John and I spent hours okay minutes picking that out and for our theme for today senior moment, but are today senior moment is brought to you by morning point senior living and memory care centers in its morning point with E.com and today Ashley, who is with morning point instead of big now so she's going give us today but here's art today senior moment take time for stillness or make time for illness to take time for stillness or make time for illness and so many of us again. I'm going with the theme here first section here we had learning to be quiet, rather than just silent and elder looking for stillness all about settling ourselves down because the stress we live with. If we don't learn to just be still for little bit just be still working to end up making herself sick. So this is applying across what I was actually giving this advice to my mother and father, my mother's been in the hospital for four months now and she just got home this week and she was sitting out on the deck this morning with dad.

Look at all the flowers of the said mom that's the best to keep take time for stillness because you don't have any more time to take his hood to make for illness so that others are today senior moment Ashley tells little bit about morning point. What's the big announcement we've got going on this week are all primary and 44 apartment living with Alzheimer's. What are some things that you guys are going to have their that is unique to this population group that maybe other places would not have our care on concept called all of our staff paid in our programming. We really focused on bringing the community and letting the right and protect the paint and outreach project volunteers Throughout the making sure that people getting back when folks know that a lot of people listen across the country now on the show and this is a local event happening here in the Nashville area but when people are looking at making a transition into this type of facility. What are some tips that you would offer folks may not have access to the morning point facilities here in this area in the south, but what are some tips that you would just want people to look out for to hear some things you might want to just watch out for and make sure that whatever facility you're looking it has these things like our wire or letting how far are interacting with the right a lot of places think that they have a calendar that really what different how your characters that are approaching right not think volume you want to theme people not finding loving care by a coffee like the right helping them for allowing them to take ownership part of their care as well. It's not all about being Canada cruise ship mentality where Wayne gathered everybody and entertain them on their way again and all about watching how there letting people today are what would be a big red flag to you if you walk into place and use all this you would just say no way were not staying here in involvement thing and nurse care that getting behind closed doors.

That kind of thing you wanted out and about what they then interacting and letting Rhett help with project weight. All that a lot of take care of throughout the day that giving five minutes to let our residents participate that make a world of difference will that's great advice is what people leave because people don't know anymore they just panicked and that's why love having you guys as a part of the show because you're such a steady hand you have such a wonderful organization morning point.com and that's point within easy Ashley. Thank you. This is going be an exciting week for you guys. Thank you so much for celebrating our work and we also now put it out there in the pond just this is hope for the caregiver.

This is the nation's number one chauffeur caregivers were glad with the snow go away. We got more to go for some great news. If you miss the deadline to sign up for health insurance or to sign up for a plan you're not happy with you still have a choice.

I'm Gracie. I am staining with help things all right every thing is all right for John to disco this is hope caregiver.

This is the nation's number one chauffeur, the family caregiver were glad or with us and think they keep following on Facebook lab if you want to be on the show, you can: 877-655-6755 and right now have a guest on the show.

This is a very interesting smart, passionate lady about health of help helping you move to a place where everything is all right.

This is Jackie Sheppard Jackie with us well, God love you how you feel.

All I did.

I try to get John to have James Brown on you know I feel good like I knew that I would and but you know I don't know what happened to John in there that's on John you okay there. He's given me the skin to give you the knowledge is Jackie is an author, speaker, and a chest, an amazing treasure trove of information about moving you from point A to point B and what point B is is you being healthier and I preach on the show a lot and I'm wearing a coat and tie today so I will say preach, but I preach on this how important it is for us as caregivers to be healthy and to respect the amount of stress that we have on us as caregivers. Her book is called him hold it for the Facebook lab folks would watch a video silent take over how the body hijacks the mind silent take over how the body hijacks the mind. Jackie talked to us a little bit about your own journey because you kind of went through the meatgrinder of health issues and you took matters into your own hands and said enough is enough. I'm going to I'm going to empower myself on this and this is something I really want caregivers to to do themselves.

I want all of us to do this empower ourselves, tell us about your journey little bit to get in some of your your thoughts on other things.

Writer here. I no. 1993 I realigned that help a lot and I do not know there not working out your eye and I think that much research on how one because of my own well and I short-term. So where to go from there you got into this, you can go to the doctor just you get the regular stuff but it was obviously enough, you work moving direction you wanted to what you find out about my background now. I started researching on choir I find out what's wrong with children what's wrong with. I write you for found in a private school did okay so you saw this, you sell your own health and use all the health of a lot of kids were going through a lot of things and you said sums not connecting. I started crying. I now collaborate with the research question and we were able to start looking for confidence from high how their brain malfunction that I take over that line in the book that my depression and bipolar well you spent a good bit of time documenting so many different recent summit. I was impressed how deeply you went into this in the science of it and showing people.

Okay, look, we were were killing ourselves and were treating the wrong thing and and I've seen this so many times in my own life and of the lives of others that we just can't go through these patterns we develop and not realizing that it is a and I love the title the book silent take over in our bodies are dictating to our mind, however, to function in. It wasn't enough for a 15 minute office visit with the physician evidently and you said I do something about this. I'm going to get healthy and I think this is what we as caregivers have to do we have to have that kind of passion and and and how we approach this hears here so that I want you to spend a little bit of time on because a lot of people will come up, and then they'll say okay what you need to do this you need to do this you need to do this. They take advantage of folks who are struggling and and feeling like they're just underwater and that their grasping at something and then somebody come along. So here's the latest greatest product take this nutraceutical take this thing right here forget all these prescription drugs do this and this. How do you you you see all of the submenu.

There is nothing that that is come your way that you know you've seen it all and I'm not saying that that means that your older that just means that your experience Jackie I just want to clarify that okay but but you have in your years. You see these things. How do you weed out and recognize the snake oil versus here's a healthier path. What are some things that you from my outline. I think very well. All they're all that and what really are buying me the very first thing that car. It clearly now. The research Hospital court trial no more that can become hearing validated clinical trial that offers website and….

By world international and national medical library United States as well. National health care research. There what they truly fight in the world. Put in your mouth. Well, that's that is a love that because somebody people just don't know this is really great somebody different scientific things on it. This is a way for us to check ourselves and and I will.

I want my fellow caregivers to be skeptical. I want all of us to be just hard no skeptical because you know what we don't have a lot of margin for error so number one validated science peer review what's up Abby.

It's got and it's got to be more than just one thing right. This can be more than just one study so what's what's a number that that you would feel comfortable saying okay this stuff has they really done their homework on this and here's the number of peer reviews.

What's a number and up that you would feel comfortable with. Well on already. Clinical trial will be on now doctors research. I am very awkward search on very clinical trust. What's what's next. What's another way to make sure you don't get pulled into a situation were somebody's just taking you for a ride and give you something. This basically placebo or worse yet, even harmful right now.

Her arm are generally regarded little regard. Along the culture another country trying to rally when urban behind. I generally regarded verifying now a professional print that little bowl on supplement that I okay for a professional to learn about for on your diet. John has it on his shirt grass. He's generally regarded as safe, so thankful for that. I only got just a little bit more time to get one more that you could because I really don't, Jackie. I look at you as somebody who has done a lot of works so that others who are just overwhelmed don't have to and there's no way that I could catch up with where you are. The learning curve is just too steep so I need to learn from people like you from you not like you from you.

What do I need to look out for and that I want to really want you to guide us through that woman somewhat one more tip that you got that you could just help people stay safe because people noticeably come from the church and there you know they got Jesus all over there given something that's just really cost of the money and doing nothing for them or hurting them. My very reliable three. You don't want to come in backyard laugh. Not now. Peter Wymore back to my birthday is I'm good.

I'm only 35 but I look much older. It's all that mileage and it ain't interstate be 55 tomorrow. I'm not real hot. Well, you came to me over a year ago and you talk to me about some things and I want folks to be able to hear this because I said okay, I'll follow you down this path a little bit Jackie because I am. I am incredibly skeptical of everything because I get approached by love this but I took your took your counsel. We spent some time with it and all I can tell you is a year and 1/2 year later year and half later year later, my blood work.

My cholesterol went down among no cholesterol medication, 55 years old, I take no cholesterol medication take no blood pressure medication take no medication of any kind. Blood pressure went down, cholesterol went down.

Triglycerides went down everything that needed to go down went down out some of it needs to go down little faster. That's my weight, but I'm working on that, but I didn't do anything different, except listen to you.

I did what you told me to do and I'd use myself as a guinea pig. So that's why will Linda to have this conversation on the air because I wouldn't do this with just anybody, and I would do this about anybody because there's to be people out there that are that are raking people away in this and so you you've done something extraordinary and appreciate this very much if somebody wants to get in touch with you and find out more about this what they can do your book, and so forth. What's the best way to do that. I will put this on Facebook. Lots of people can attend can get it from there as well that I put it on the podcast so go ahead strong outlook.com on now outlook.com I listen I got a run here because rep just a heartbreak Jackie Sheppard all through silent takeover how the body hijacks the mind. Jackie I am so grateful you came on you to come back on again with me okay I Melissa behave yourself and I'll talk to you soon okay this is hope for the caregiver were about getting strong right now. That's what we want to do and where to put this out on the website. Hope for the caregiver.com and the podcast the caregiver and go to all the sites get healthy caregivers make better caregivers. That's what great news if you miss the deadline to sign up for health and your answer to sign up for a plan you're not happy with you still have a choice.

I'm Gracie. I am staining with help you ain't seen nothing yet.

This is hope for the caregiver, the nation's number one show for the family caregiver will are on a mission to help you stay strong and healthy as you take care of someone's not have to live a miserable life.

You do not have to be this way you can be as happy or as miserable as you choose to be in this show is all about equipping you on how to live a comber healthier and dare I say it even more joyful life. I am Peter Rosenberger bring you three decades of experience, not one, not two, but three decades of experience to help you stay healthy and that's what love to do. Hope for the caregiver is the name of the show and that is our that is our mission here I speak a mission.

I'm heading over to Africa just saw that Moses who is watching us on Facebook left from Ghana. Moses I'm coming to see you and were going over there standing with hope is presenting sponsor of this show and it is the ministry the grace enough found in many many years ago. The first program we have is a prosthetic limb outreach to Gracie's fellow amputees and West Africa and the second we have is this show hope for the caregiver and when we do this with prosthetics.

We're all about teaching and equipping workers there on how to do this for their own people.

Moses is director of the national prosthetic and orthotic center and he is watching this live on Facebook love and if you can do if you if you want to dial in really quick and I will post a set on our YouTube channel. Later on, and he is the director that we watched him move up the ranks. He started out as it is a young technician and now he's the director of the whole center and were going over there in about two and half weeks. So Moses, I hope you're ready for school work, you ain't seen nothing yet and you could be a part of this we have two different components of what we do. We not only provide equipment and supplies. We also go there physically and teach and train and equip, and a part of the equipment or supplies comes through the local prison here in Tennessee where inmates help us recycle prosthetic limbs.

They come from all over the country to a local prison here in middle Tennessee inmates in a one-of-a-kind program in the whole world. Or that's total Mundo for those you south of the border. Inmates will strip these limbs down.

I call it operation footloose and they will help us recycle the parts feet. The pile on the needs the adapters the. The screws even if we need to do that and will send all that will purchase more supplies and send that over there and then we will build custom fit legs of their carbon fiber acrylic resin limited sockets just like Gracie wears here the same type of socket. That's the whole point of this and a and she says you want to put a leg on somebody that I'm not willing to wear myself and we're going over there and were asking for your help stating with hope.calm if you want to be a part of that 25 books 2500. Whatever's on your heart.

It will go towards this trip.

We got a couple team members really need the help in in raising their support to go and you could be a part of that right now it standing with hope.com just seaward syndrome. The front page's see the team members and you can be a part of setting some folks over there and doing this they go walking and leaping and praising God is an amazing ministry to watch and you got broken lives in the prison who are working with parts from both broken people were breaking those down to take over and send over to other broken people. All of this was the vision of a woman with a broken body 80 surgeries.

Both legs amputated. That's what my life's journey through and we do all of this to point to the one who was broken for us standing with hope.
