Today, Hans and Robby start with a prayer. This episode is something that we have not done before, but are excited about!

Robby starts to talk about how God is our shepherd, and we must trust him to be led. God puts many other shepherds in our life to leads us where we need to be. One of those might be a financial planner.

Hans discusses how trust is the main component of a relationship with his clients. If they do not trust him, he cannot Shepard their family in the right direction.

A good Shepard is very concerned about his sheep, and you should have a financial planner that is looking out for your financial needs, and well as emotional needs. As everyone knows, there are many planners who do not have your well-being at the forefront of their mind.

Hans explains what a fiduciary is, what a CFP is, and how they have to adhere to a higher level    Make sure to find the right Shepard for your family. What you leave behind you is an estate, or a pasture. Just like sheep, you want to leave a green pasture, both spiritually and financially, for your family to advance the kingdom with!

We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas!

Welcome to finishing well brought to you by Cardinal guy, certified financial planner Shiloh best-selling author and financial planner helping families finish well over 40 years of finishing well will examine both biblical and practical knowledge to assist families in finishing well, including discussions on managing Medicare IRA long-term care life insurance and investments and taxes.

Now let's get started with finishing well well you can hear the jingle bells right this minute today show on finishing well were calling is the season season to shepherd and I really think that we can open this morning with a prayer because it's really a kind of a critical show we haven't done before. Here I'm finishing well is is really getting into the shepherding aspect of of what it is that you do on some so with that said, we we need some wisdom in this prayer that I'm fixed up right was actually written mostly by Hans and so I want to ask us if we all pray together here.

Father, we are gathered today to learn, prepare and make decisions about money in retirement and legacy for our families and your church.

What we have belongs to you and was provided by you. We ask for your grace for finishing in a way that is pleasing to you were thankful for your provision of Social Security, Medicare, retirement accounts, pensions, and the provisions of you leaving an estate for families, for our families.

We pray that you grant wisdom and trustworthiness to advisors today that the resources you entrusted to us will bring your kingdom to our families and all the world in Jesus name for his glory.

Amen.

You know, as I think about the season and God gave me this insight this week as I was studying the song of Solomon, and I think most would agree that is one of the most romantic love stories you ever read and it you can talk about the imagery how we want to say it but you do have to say that the lover in the story was deeply in love with his beloved, and when you look into that word. Beloved that is used by Solomon. There and realizing Solomon's dad what Solomon's dad was the one King David who wrote the 23rd Psalm inside that word. Beloved, which is used in that story, but only used in that section of the Bible you'll find the heart of that is to grace or to feed sheep acceptable when he saying he loves well there and and in clearly this person is loving their bride well in the song of Solomon. What is really talking about is what his he's giving us depth and understanding what his father taught us in the 23rd Psalm is that when you look at that loving others from the standpoint of shepherding only a few would think with me for a minute, as were heading into this season of our life of retirement and and and and what it's like to finish well through the health situations and whatever in your life what would it look like to shepherd that well in your family interest with we go through the 23rd Psalm is the first line is the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. And I thought you described me as the ship epithets to client, but as both of us and then honoring their family. I'm shepherding families and then the Lord is shepherding all of us and and so if we really come under that headship that it's it's pretty clear he says we shall not want.

But the is just critical when you think about love in general. He makes me lay down in green pastures which mother that you ever met that leftist child left her child would not make him take a map sure and really, if you think about going through this process that it it's going to require some rest and and in trust. So in order to lay down the sheep have to trust that there is a good place and that are in a place where there well fed and so as we shepherd our families and as you shepherd us through this process right it it's going have to come from a point of trust and and a point where we feel like were not going go hungry because you may land them in your hungry, I just finished a two day school with newer agents that work with me Cardinal in.

We spent most of the day the first day just talking about trust me that's really the essence of what we do and we we give people advice, we issue policies we fill out applications. We invest money we bring people to the lawyer and redo redo planning we do almost the reality is we have to be trustworthy and were building trust with people and that's a lot of where the show is heading today is we really want to talk about about for you folks is first of all you being the shepherd of your family and you trusting yourself you trusting me or somebody like me are some of the my position to help you shepherd your family and to help you make decisions, and so it's all about building trust and in the breaking that down and talking about it for several hours is it's an interesting subject and but when you look in John chapter 10 and stating along the idea of the good Shepherd.

We know Jesus kinda gave us the description to end in John chapter 10, where he talked about the good shepherd lays down his life for sheep that the hireling when this when the wolf shows up. You know the hirelings can take a hike at and so when were looking into this.

Trying to determine a shepherd that's going to take care of our family. The fact that they would be a fiduciary.

If you had heard that term before. It's in Hans book in this last section here in where we talk about know that a good shepherd is not going to be somebody who's hired on his can be somebody that literally loves the sheet and I don't know if if you're like me are afflicted car salesman home-Pentagon salesman and it didn't take me long ever determine that that employee working for me was a hireling in others. He was in this for the money or that he truly loved his customers and he was trying to help them or they were trying to help them try to find a car and you're in that same role every day with Cardinal got will yeah and we we wouldn't even need fiduciaries.

If people follow that other book that's part of the show, which is the Bible and they were Christians and people were just trustworthy at their heart. But we all know that's not the way the world works, and so when you get into the matters that I work with. We need a legal system and we need a system like we have for licensing for contracting for having a set of regulations.

We need penalties if you don't follow this we need to keep a rap sheet on everybody that is in the business that we can see the number of times that they've been called out things and so my point is is that if we were all behaving like we'd like to is Christians and we were all Christians in the world.

We probably would need to have the show the ends of the just the thing that we want to talk a little bit about today is helping you when you need to get advice. Choosing your advisors okay and when I say we need to get advice in tune with the show when you're shepherding your family and your working and finishing well and you need counselors who you gonna go to in writing and ask him when you get there and how you can `and are they gonna care about your family at end in my personal experience here. As you know it your go. I had not met Hans and I didn't know I was headed into this is my life it next thing I know I I'm her primary caregiver for both my father and my mother and when you're in that situation and there's all kinds of skeletons in everybody's closets and let me just tell you the demo families loaded with and I mean here you are and and those loved ones that need to shepherd right now they're not necessarily going to listen to me, in spite of the fact that in the Christian car guy or or or that I do Christian program. I mean it it it is required.

Somebody that has come in. In my case, I can just tell you a shepherd that is really helped in a Guinness doing was something that there's just no way constantly. You know it says the beginning of this chapter says don't try this at home you have for me personally I you know it's been a huge deal to overcome some of the family issues did to have somebody come in that loves my family and and and cares about the outcomes not just what the financial situation that's that's awesome and that's acting like a fiduciary and acting like a Christian which which with terms to some degree are synonymous in the sense that you can put the needs of the clients ahead of her own needs and saying I don't have needs and you know I'm not can make money serving you or I'm not going but my needs and wants stand behind years and I'm in a put your well-being and so is every other certified financial planner trust. The country was about $75,000 in North Carolina guessing 45,000 CFP's and a CFP in all our workers is a fiduciary and required to be a fiduciary required act and we can face consequences if we don't sewing another as we are headed into this season and as we talked about met beginning of the show that's tis the season for shepherd and the most amazing gift. Wherever given clearly was to know the word came you know they're in Bethlehem, but then you know what a neat gift.

It is that this concept of love and loving people is the 23rd Psalm teaches and we just talked about the first two lines we got more lines Estate 10.

Once again that's Cardinal guide.com Cardinal guide.com now finishing well brought by Cardinal guide.com welcome back to this jingle Bell Christmas edition of well with provide financial planner on silent.

This show were talking about. Tis the season for the good Shepherd and it really is. Hans tell you this that you think will what is the Bible and Christianity in studying the Lord was that have to do with Social Security investments Medicare we just go to the Christmas story and we look at it and we were dealing with Caesar Augustus is the government calling a census and Mary and Joseph are going to the town of Bethlehem and their registering and then which is soon to pay their tax euros later we have Herod coming in here and doing evil things, which is the evil army or whatever and so I mean if you really think about it, that's a lot of what our job is. As Christians is to understand and come to understand the Bible and then apply it to the modern world and that's what I do is a shepherd in this business is to to meet with my clients and work to lead them to finishing well to write my right onto the second or third line there where it says you know he leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul and and so a good Shepherd is very concerned about us jeeps. So as Jesus was clearly but in order to restore us all unite your you're looking out for more than just their financial needs, that that a lot of times there's huge things for their soul ties are to their family and things that and that they are.

I got a media buying the family know if the parents are still alive their parents. If you're not still alive.

I need to hear about their history and whether they have stories with long-term care experience with that then I need to hear about the brothers and sisters hear about their kids if they have previous spouses.

This is his second marriage and which kids are which was resident who's going to care these folks, this is a family pride and ego right on the witches leads me in paths of righteousness for his namesake. Well, you got your family has a name now it's it's that it's the child family or the Delft Gilmore family and your state has consequences. Assisted is that that kind of thing you know is an imitator of Christ. The so let's let's circle back to when I came into the radio station here and Artie started the show or nothing like the show on a secular station over in Raleigh had a few shows didn't go very well and so now I got into touch with Michael which was was really divine because I had a lady call in that heard my show on the Truth Network before was really on the truth if she thought she was about when she found she was and then I'm looking up to the Truth Network is because it was just a skip from that other station vacation became a client and I looked at the Truth Network and up over here and I could really sense that I was being vetted from the minute I got on the phone and I was selling you know like this is who I am. This is what I do and so I come over here and I met you and I met Stu and I met Michael and I could really get a sense that you guys were venting me as a Christian, not a financial planner and Artie center my books you'd read my book.

Research is clear, I am what I was doing was special and asked me to help host and II. To me, and others. Lots of financial shows out there by I it's always been my dream that there would be one that was redemptive that I felt like was more than just you know, here's how that were the good investments fall but where is really done to you know how would God do this and and and and how does it really benefit the moving of the kingdom and it didn't take me long to say wow know this this is that this is what we been looking for and so to say were excited to have you here and and and to have the shepherd amongst the shepherds here are on the Truth Network is a huge blessing for us and were dystonic that God brought this again some Italian where I got stumped, at least for a second this week, so gentlemen up in Indiana. His wife is actually his wife found us on Facebook she's going on Medicare.

She bought my book he read it once he got into it get real interested in it. Then he goes to our website. He hasn't found Christian values anywhere in all that stuff so parties on our website makes his way over to finishing well this is to the episode last Saturday.

Then he writes me an email or he goes on our website anybody in there and he just said I was so pleased to learn of fishing fishing. Well, listen to the two host well above above the law says become a client in the process of that last week we go through everything we go over the business. We'd Artie talked about the show.

Talk about you talk about me, but we get down to his last question for you said my last question even set it up.

He said how do the Christian values finishing well.

How does that impact your work. There is about ready say that's ravaged part. He's got the guy with the butt you know I said you know what I need to do. I just said Lord let's just let's get in the most honest answer. Weakness.

I said so it's not in the book and it's not on the website because there's plenty of people who are not Christians who become clients and II you know I just don't want to make that like a gatekeeper like you know we only take on Christians as clients, and I don't really think that's fair to them. He was great with that and then you know we just we just kept talking and then I went to my values which I listed in the book which he had already had. He's read that book back with the court is a smart guy and I talked about. Those are Christian values that are in there. They don't say you like the 10 Commandments or whatever but I just gave them all the background that's in there and we really and then he wrote me an email afterward that he really felt Dean his wife felt after the conversation that God had led them to me and it really felt good and I felt proud of myself that I didn't have to just turn to you and say that's ravaged but that's the beauty of you know what God's doing each individual right. And as we go back through this. What might his arm thinking about Christmas and what it would mean the love my family and be a good Shepherd and in a week. We moved down to the peanut preparing the table for me in on the presence of our enemies and anointing with oil and and those things that I have to admit that were my favorite parts of the 23rd Psalm is surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house Lord forever and I came to read a book on the 23rd Psalm from a shepherds perspective and they talked about the cheaper consider the animals with the golden hose at the shepherd well they leave behind them a green pasture of rich green pasture so that when Solomon said follow the tracks of sheep in the song of Solomon what they're saying is that what you leave behind is kind of an estate in our you can leave grass that is been cut down to the nub so that nobody's going to feed behind you are. You can leave a green pasture, both spiritually and financially for your family to advance the kingdom with.

That's the goal aspect that is that that is what the good Shepherd does. That's the go that's fabulous at and so you know I think about this season that what a gift it is. I really sincerely feel this way that God brought cardinal guide and and finishing well and hostile into my life to help me Shepherd. Both my mother-in-law, my father and then me as I begin to look at these consequences because I'm no spring chicken should be in felt that I you know my kids are going to face this or are they going to come into the rest of the life with the green pasture behind dad or are there is to be cut down to the nubbin's and they're trying to figure out how to make your online sure. And so here here's limited tell you is, as we told the story a little bit earlier about me coming in here and sitting before you guys talking about starting a radio show and I just told you about a client sitting before me really vetting me as an advisor and part of his work had been done for him because that's one of the last chapters in the book that's with the shows about today the end to really get the facts that are in the book. It's just in chapter 9. In my book, and so I want to tell you how you can get this book to me. For starters, anybody is listening. If you'll just go on cardinal guide.com you'll send a message that you want a copy of my book. I'll send one out to you free of charge. If you'd like me to email you one. Just put your email address in there and said like a digital copy that will save me a little money and so what the books about and I wrote the book to really put down on paper really all my feelings about these when I think of the seven subjects of the seven worries that are important for folks Social Security, Medicare, long-term care and long-term care insurance, IRAs and 401(k)s. Life insurance postretirement investment in income taxes so this whole book has been written in that order. And it has short chapters is written in plain English so it's it's easily understood that it's not full of a bunch of footnotes and quotes simple plain English telling you what I think you gotta do in each one of these areas to have a good retirement. We do a lot of fixing of problems.

So this show is not just for people 60 or 65. It's for people 75, 80, 85, where were going back and fixing some of the things that they may be overlooked or didn't really look at too closely when they made past decisions sent. That's really what my career in my life and is certainly with the books about you can get the book.

You can also go and get the chapters are cardinal guide.com just by downloading them you don't even need tells and just think about it that you know if you go out to Shepherd 101 about these think.

I mean how would you feel about the guy who's been shepherding in 06 days or six months versus the guys been doing it for four years at an end in other certain competencies and experiences that only come with experience and and and you know that's one of the advantages I think she liked both in the book and in here on finishing well is it out based on the stories you can tell that the these are life experiences that show what happens when we do and don't do certain things in this particular season which is clearly had a really different season. I had no idea, actually a year ago.

As we began to shout realizing what this season is imitated. If you're going to look back later, as I've done with my mom and my mom had Alzheimer's and spent a lot of time with her in the last four or five years of her life and when I look back on it now been gone a few years. Those are the most enriching times, at least for me between my mom and you're gonna look back with your father and your mother in law.

It's hard to do it now, but you're gonna look back on that and the sand. The same thing that surely goodness and therein lies my fate that God's my Shepherd ultimately needs put other wonderful shepherds like you. Hans my life and that surely goodness and mercy follow it all the days of my life and I'm in the dwell mouse the Lord forever.

That's the promise a Christmas event is is is and I'm a motel you let me worry about the money. During this time with your dad, your mother-in-law, let me guide you with that. So you can really spend your time with them in their care in making that time, important.

The last thing you want to be worried about this time is money well we are praying that each of you will have an amazing Christmas that you will sense Christ that you will sense him as a shepherd maybe will take a nap and you think about you. I laid out a migraine past Eddie's good love you well and then think about how you can imitate Christ in your life and your family this Christmas we had finishing well.
