I want you to just think about cell just very quickly. What happens to people like you and me. Bible says we are all born how in captivity will born in sin, we are captives who do we serve we serve the wrong monster we have Pharaoh over us. I'm going to tell you something folks very interesting here because everything in the Old Testament, from Genesis to Malachi is a picture of the sovereign grace of God I got a hold on here and watch this because I promise you, your life can be changed forever as God by his Spirit speaks to, not on the Israelites were taken captive number two. They were humiliated frames. These were highly dignified, highly religious group of people. They were humiliated in their captivity, just by virtue of their slavery by virtue of what was done to them. Just think about so what is sin due to us sending humiliates us. I remembered some time ago.

Some years ago a friend of mine, a man married with children committed adultery. I remember speaking to him. The thing that broke my heart was that he was a preacher. He was a fellow cost and I remember it so well you know what happened. All three committed adultery is one full day. Do you know what the most difficult thing. It was for him to accept was to accept and understand that his wife would forgive him and I will never forget that fellow cost. A friend of mine saying to me pasta. I am so humiliated by my sin. There was something about that. There's something about being set free from oppression, number four, number four I know it sounds hard to understand all through all of this I mean after all, they were taken captive.

They were humiliated. They was set free, and yet they wanted around the wilderness for 40 years. I believe we got a picture about assumes here today born in sin humiliated because of sin, often freedom in Christ and yet so many of us are wandering around the wilderness for years and for years and for years and unbelief and frames. It goes without saying that it is what God says here in chapter 3, and again repeated in chapter full that because of their believe what God say to him, God say, because they had hardened their hearts, they would not enter their race as far as they were concerned that make the promised land. They would never get into the land that flowed with milk and honey.

But they would never get into that eternal rest with Jesus Christ. They would be banished forever from his presence because of their unbelief.

And yet the promise still stands. And yet the promises unbroken consider ourselves for just a moment. What about us well number one we backing from birth, but I tell you what your baby. Babies back from birth.

Number two we fight against time.

All of us who are human beings, we have a fight against time. Number three. We struggle to survive were trying to make payments with trying to build a bank balance. We try to educate our children with trying to be healthy. We struggle to survive number for we wrestle against human nature. Paul put it like this.

He said the good that I would that I do not in the evil that I would not that I do a Richard man that I am who will deliver me. I can identify that you know how many times you wake up in the morning and life is wonderful. The next morning you can wake up and feel terrible. We struggle without human nature. Why because the heart of man is exceedingly wicked. Number five we cry out for love and for forgiveness number six. We crave for peace. We want peace in our land. We are praying in our hearts for our country right now. We pray for the peace of our land. We pray for peace in our hearts.

I do know how many times how many people have said to me pasta. I have a wonderful home and I have a wonderful spouse. This conflict in my life is conflict in my home.

We crave peace in Jesus save my peace I give to you.

Another thing to talk about the Jews in the time that this was written all that many of them would come to believe in Christ. They were being persecuted they were suffering in every kind of life physically and emotionally and spiritually. They needed to be encouraged. They needed to be told they need to understand the doctrines of God's grace. But I tell you it's another thing to think about ourselves and we cry often we crave and we make will and we long for race in Revelation 1413 God's word says I heard a voice from heaven. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord yes says the spirit, they will rest from their labor. You remember what Jesus said. Jesus said, come unto me all of you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you grace. You see friends. III have a difficulty sometimes within my human context and from my human perspective. Trying to understand what it is that the Lord was saying not only concerning the Israelites yesterday and money concerning the Jews, to whom he wrote concerning my own heart and life be interested to know that the word rest itself has several meanings that might give us a little bit more about handle on trying to understand what God is saying to us here.

I'm going to share with you. Just five different shades of the meaning of rest.

According to the word of God number one.

It means that someone else will do it for you.

They had grown up believing that you have to go to the priest that you have to make sacrifices in here was Jesus Christ. The new covenant. These people were told they were out, and Jesus Christ has given to us grace and peace, my peace I bring to you look at that verse in verse one therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands. Let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of, and so the operative question is this how can I attain this wrist.

How can I acquire the celebration. How can I make certain how can I be careful that I do not full short of what the Israelites fell short of people are dying all around us everyday. How can I make absolutely certain that I too am going to go to heaven.

Let me show you in this text. When God tells us it's a it's a fascinating study. Now you gotta read this in the word of God with me. There are five indicators here. There are five mandates in this passage, five instructions that God gives to us concerning this unbroken promise and how we can attain this race for ourselves. Number one, we can attain this race through an understanding of a promise that still stands look at this one since the promise of entering his rest still stands. I guess the question that we lost about ourselves today.
