Now today's message from Dr. Wilson friends.

I'm going to invite you to turn with me in your Bibles to the book of acts. In chapter 1 cutbacks in chapter 1, for the benefit of those who have not been here. We have begun a series entitled back to the future throughout the book of acts. These are going to be exciting days. I've been looking forward to preaching and sharing with you. God's word even this morning and I'm grateful to each one of you. I'm going to try to allow message today. I babies first step brother an unusual time. Nothing more precious than that is watching the baby's first my wife and I loved I know I shouldn't say this with my two sons Jared my Delta but I tell you, even though my two sons are to pick guerrillas to the I tell you I actually remember a day when both of them and my board took the first step is it you know it's one of those things that you just never forget moms and dads get down on the call get the cameras rolling, and you want to capture that very special moment when Annalise did that cattle to special to watch those first steps that they tell you something very interesting when we lost God to show us what he wants us to do as a church. One of the things that we must do is we must go back to first status frame. If you are married to one of the greatest things that you can do in your marriage is to go back to when you first remarried you not happens over time. Sometimes we get so used to being married that we take marriage for ground. We get so used to. We even begin to say to ourselves. I don't ever remember a time when I wasn't married and she's married to me. She's always going to be there so she can jolly well open the door herself, let's just be honest with each other but we do that we do that without families.

We do that with one another. We basically get so used to working and doing the things that we do that we just simply take them for ground you want to reignite the fire in your life go back to your first day here in the Bible and the acts of the apostles, Jesus Christ, and just left the disciples and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I just said I want you to know that I'm giving you instructions and the disciples and the church of Jesus Christ on about to take the first step. That's not entirely a pretty picture. In fact, when the baby takes the first step I think you have to get ready for a great fertile and potentiate the task. I mean that. First, it comes from there.

They all balancing the next man down like you just cleared everything out the way it's not different in line in the acts of the apostles, something very interesting. God takes us back to the early church and he reminds us of some of the most precious things that are written in our hearts. It's take a look at them and I want to stop a number of times I read from verse 12. In the book of acts.

Remember, Jesus had just gone up to him first through then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill, including the amount of all God just to put this into context of the Mount of olives with me for a minute amount of olives is here where I'm standing in the Mount of olives looks down if you facing Jerusalem modern.

He looks down on the city of Jerusalem, the city of Jerusalem is about 200 foot below the amount of all online and then below that is the wrong KID all alone in the Kidron Valley which kinda winds its way around the rules of Jerusalem as you look down from the Mount of olives. We Jesus ascended to be seated at the right hand of the father down onto Jerusalem and down into the Kidron Valley, which is 400 feet down the Bible is going to tell us that they just mean appear on the Mount of Ascension, the Mount of olives and they been instructed to go back to Jerusalem. So they got a little down the sewer down through the Kidron Valley which drops to 400 feet below, and then the other side and through what we would clearly east right the Golden gate gate that Jesus Christ is going to come through when he comes back for the second time and they going to go back to a place will be up the room and I'm going to talk about that in a minute. But the Bible is data tell us here in verse 12 that it was a Sabbath babies room from the city not listen carefully Jews and these were Jewish people. They were restricted on the Sabbath day and I Sabbath day will is approximately 1 1/2 to about 1 3/4 of the to go back and read in Joshua chapter 3 and verse. In many of the other places in Scripture and so you get an idea they were talking about one of the half almost bounce from the Mount of olives down through the Kidron Valley up the other side and to the room where they make pallets read this draw then I returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of olives.

I Sabbath days from the city when they arrived they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James, and Andrew Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James, son of Alpheus and Simon the zealot and Judas that's not due to six carriers.

This is the other Judas, the son of James. We gonna learn about Judas Iscariot never wanted what happened to juice all three betrayed the Lord Jesus arrived. That's what happens. Verse 14 joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with these brothers in those days Peter stood among the believers.

How many believers were in Jerusalem. Garrett is a group numbering of about 120 and he said brothers in Scripture have to be filled through which the Holy Spirit law spoke about long ago back in Psalm 90 show you that in a minute.

Through the mouth of David concerning Judas Iscariot, who served as a guide for those who arrested Jesus. He was one of our number and shared in this ministry with her world. He got his wickedness. Remember, the high priest paid Judas pieces of gold and silver so that he would betray the Lord Jesus Christ. So we really got for his wickedness.

Judas a few. By the way, that field is down there in the Kidron Valley for you and then he fell handle all his body burst open and overall his intestines food. What actually happened. Judas may just tell you this. There are literally clips that you can see hanging there and Judas went and hanged himself. He committed suicide. And while he was hanging himself the role that he was using to hang himself broke loose.

It's not. And what happened to Judas was that he fell down this rocky cliff into the Kidron Valley and that is what is being described here. Listen what happened. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this so they clear the field in the Hebrew language to Obama.

That is the field of blood for St. Peter it is written in the book of Psalms by his place be deserted and let it be no one to dwell in it and by another take his place of leadership that for St. Peter, it is necessary to choose one of the main being with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us that one of these must become. I miss us all his resurrection so they propose to me. First one was Joseph cornball Sabbath also known as justice. The other one was Matthias. They might try so far so good. Where you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry which Judas left to go to where he belongs, then like cost loss in the lateral filter math class and so he was added to the 11 now I want to just say something there very quick. I think it's very important when Jesus rose in the same good but any sight of the disciples. He said I want you to go back to Jerusalem and white everybody say this right that was in everybody everybody say why this these must've been Baptist folks because they went back to Jerusalem, but they weren't prepared to do in Jesus the Jesus I go back and elect a new disciple know you said you go back and now that's one of my problems. Did you know that I'm going to confess that you did the I don't find it easy just to sit down and wait. You know sometimes I sit some things and other times I just sits.

Jesus said I want you to go and just sits you know why because you got no power. You don't have the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not deep, and outside of the Holy Spirit you are rendered powerless nondata say something to you folks. I believe that what happened here is a demonstration of a people who were willing to do what God said, but not willing to carry it out to the literature of the in obedience to what God said, I believe we've got an expression here, not of the divine will of God but of the permissive will of God. Sometimes God allows things to happen in order to get us to the third, at which we line up exactly what it is that he wants us to.

It's just a passing point G Campbell mold in another great writers and pastors and doctrinal preachers of made a statement and I believe it has a lot of validity.

You know, folks. They prayed about Matthias and eventually when they prayed they said nothing seems be happening so will just sit down and cost lots on this one, and they chose Matthias, do you know that that's the lost time.

Matthias's information frame.

I say this to you at first Baptist Church God tells us to write we write. When God tells us to do. We need to do. We don't ever need to resort to costing lots in early to try and determine what it is that God wants us to do. We don't ever need to take the best of two evils and one of the things that we got off God help us to do is we want to say to him, he has to know exactly what it is you want us to do and then when you tell us what to do let us go and do it because you spoke, but then something remarkable about this baby's first statewide baby because this was the beginning of the New Testament church. It had never been there before. They were about to take the first step and it seems to me that when the Lord God in heaven. The Lord Jesus Christ down and he saw what was going on down there. You know somehow just in my heart I believe that God loves us so much that he knew this was a baby's first step. He knew how frail and fragile. We really all and he knew that they would make mistakes and you know God, someone who allows us to make mistakes. Did you know that not over today is not over for you.

Sometimes we stumble in referral.

But you know daddy's always there to catch he's always there to pick us up. Maybe you stumbled referral into the vibe you been trying to take steps, maybe like two big might be like to quick what God assignments nondata connection when I hope you up I'm going to teach you how to real property. I'm not just going to teach you how to look younger to teach you how to run on them teach you to stay upright. I'm going to teach you to get to the point at which you don't have a have to think about putting 1 foot in front of another. You just medically guided because I'm going to teach you how to do it and you going to do it in the right way will you laws. New Testament churches first, let's try and look at it, let's awesome God to show us what it is in this particular passage prior to Pentecost before the coming of the Holy Spirit. What was God saying why look at the place wonderful Bible says they went to the upper room.

I believe that upper room change leaves the upper room where the disciples met prior to the arrest and the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Special price their inverses wandering verse 13. The Bible says they went to the upper room. They went backward to wait upon the Lord, they gathered together.

It was very special.

It was a special place of worship is something special about gathering together being together seeking God's face together.

The room experience was for them. It was a place where they gathered together, but I don't really want us to look at the place just look at the people who gather Bible tells us something about them. Bible says well the disciples. 11 of them within because we know that Judas Iscariot had committed suicide. So they will run short of the true Bible tells us about that and then down there in verse 13. The word says so with them was the woman and Mary the mother of Jesus and his brothers. Did you know that Jesus had brothers and sisters. Some people think that often the birth of Jesus that that was the end of the family. No, not at all Bible tells us in many different places you can go to Mark's gospel chapter 6 and verse three.

There it is laid out for us. These women while we know many of them were there was Mary Magdalene lien we know about. It was Mary the wife of chloroplasts was most certainly there.

There was Mary, and often remember the tremendous relationship I had with the Lord Jesus Christ be with Salome. There was a gathering together of wonderful people who mean so much to the Lord Jesus, given mission to his problems in the Bible tells us about that we know about James.

We know he was the first head of the Jerusalem church. We can read about that later on in the book of acts we don't know a whole lot about Joseph, the namesake of his father.

We did we know something about Judas Judas was the one who wrote the epistle to Julie we don't know a lot about Simon but we do know something that together in the in this first step of the New Testament church was about hundred and 20 people just like you and me.

That's what the church is meant to be. The church is not an exclusive club church is not a place just old people just for young people, not a place just for wealthy people, often poor people.

It's not just a place for this type of personal back type of person I would such a precious later my wife and I did from one of our people in the church are said to us this week. Thank you for praying with us and for being with us and for participating with us, even in the context of our struggles and the pain that we go through so many times I hear about old deacons going out and visiting with people. That's what the New Testament church is all about, but I want to take you further. The man, not just the price of the people, but I want you to look at the prayer of the first church this prayer in verse 14 was remarkable. They were joined together constantly in prayer seems to me that prayer was the market was the centerpiece when Jesus said, go back and wait for me.

They knew what they have to do was they have to pry some people said, why did they pray you want me to tell you why they pride because up until this point the way in which they can talk to Jesus Christ was like talk to him excuse me, Lord, you hungry could I get something to eat all week.

I love you got. You want to go left Iraq. I had a conversation with him.

Suddenly Jesus took him to the Mount of olives and he was taken from his side and Jesus had been sent to them that you cannot talk to me face-to-face.

I'm going to give you the only way by which you are able to to me face-to-face at school. The disciples were hungry for communication. They wanted they Lord in the way they did.

That was the only way that you could not what God wants you to do is when you do them. Prayer is not a monologue it's in dialogue. It is like God and saying to us is that the very centerpiece of the New Testament church needs to be grounded and founded upon prayer. Two things about this prayer night prayer, Bible says they room together and it was a persistent.

I never give up the interruption. We believe in prayer were not giving up you like to have someone pray with you right now or anytime 24 hours a day.this number down its 866-899-WORD connect you to the Encouraging Word 866-899-WORD 9673 love to pray with you to connect with resources and encourage you.

Now back to days pre-teaching Dr. Don Wilton that were persistent unified well is the place and the people in the prayer.

I want you to look at something else. I want you to look at the pasta like that down there in verse 15 Bible says in those days. While this was going on. Peter stood up frames. There is something very special about the cost of church you got way back into the book of Exodus from the time of the liberation of the Israelites. God's raised up in the roots of God's people. God's man.

God is always done.

That's the way that God works.

He has always done. There is no exception to the rule and you can take a journey right throughout Scripture and right throughout the history of the room and you going to find every way any time and in any place. God always raised a man out in the middle of the people and he gave him the responsibility to lead God's people and to be the shepherd of the flock, but in this case, it was Peter. Peter was the undisputed master of this group of disciples and sees posture by the way he stood up. I love that you not doing. Sometimes if you just excuse me from an author that I would just sit down and say great to be in church. Everybody get out your Bibles this morning back, have a cup of coffee while I'm doing this picture secure an old election just God's house and I think I'll just such a Malibu little preaching doesn't come if it doesn't wondered why the pasta stands up, looks around preaches it's exciting. Why in the Bible God calls us to do.

I've never seen read blogs into the pasta, take a seat and have a nice warm conversation with somebody God says stand up and speak with us and with conviction and it's very interesting your folks and I'm not trying to get into homiletics which is the science and art of preaching, which operate for many years but I'm gay to say to you that there was a man said he had a methodology in this message that he preached in this worship service.

As the baby took its first step you can provide about most equally, there was a period of instruction given these verses followed by exclamation followed by exhortation, followed by invitation that you have a better fuzzies message. It's very instruction he instructed them in the word of God 1116 and 20 he took them right to the word of God. He said this is this is what God's word said followed by paired exclamation. He explained the word of God. He illustrated he tied it in writing to the heart of Judas writing to the heart of David writing to the heart of Jesus Christ. Right into the heart of the ministry and the calling of the disciples and explain what was going on. Then he got into exhortation in verse 21 and he said I on the basis of God's word and that you do exactly what God is saying to you and then there's the invitation.

In the latter part of verse 22, when he says we are all invited to go and to be witnesses which this 12 person must needs be be part, limitations in great preachers. I'm sure could pick holes in this message that was preached by pasta Peter here is the New Testament church took its first step, but I don't think that that's really relevant. God is not often mental verbosity or mental cleverness or the ability of any preacher to get up and have herpes to outline his message and maybe even five. Peter was preaching. Maybe we wouldn't of been able to sit and take notes. Always try to help you to take notes because I believe it's very important, but that's not what God is saying he has listen, I am taking you back to the future so that in the feature. What I am telling you to do and you don't do what you got used to that stands out the parameters of what I've told you to do all we doing what God is telling us to do. But even had a program folks all there was a place and the people in the prayer of the pasta.

They even had a program in the program even had very clear climate was prayer the Bible tells us like writing in verse 13. In verse 24 Bible says they worship like talk about God.

It was the centerpiece it find the place of preeminence alongside prayer there was 1/3 component to the program. They were bounced and told to step into action and I have told you to do and right here in verse 22. The Bible says they way they did they go to their seats and they did what God was calling them to do. Does the question what kind of action for you and I need to I want to invite you to put into action what God is putting in your heart powerful teaching Dr. Don Wilton and are we ready to put into action what God is put in our hearts.
