Don't measure your ability and the battles by your abilities, but by God's ability is urgently a lot of stuff that you come to life and you think you know what, there's no way I do this and you'll be absolutely right. But God can do.

And if you're always looking at circumstances measured by your abilities here in limbo. God is very powerful. God created the heavens near and when you come to his son ask him to forgive you of your sins. Guess what gates are open wide. God will now equip you and bless you and give you the strength to do things and maybe you think it will be a about the life of David, welcome to cross the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today in the program. We have Neil one of these assisting pastors to help share with us about. We are closing out second chapter 8 and I want to just chant victory, victory, victory right you have victories in our life, trusting and serving the Lord God will keep you gotta put our trust in him and that's what talk to you sharing my first second Samuel chapter 8, so were looking at the life of David and we see David brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem and make Jerusalem the capital of Israel, and in her last week we looked at the chapter were David is waltzing and desire good thing and that is to to build the temple for God first. Nathan says hey you go for, and then have some time with the Lord and he comes back because you know what you're not the God.

You're not the guy we learn from the book of Chronicles that one of the reasons are probably the main reason was.

David was a man of war and got that I don't want to build the temple but were missing some neat stuff in the chapter tonight so let's jump in second Samuel chapter 8 verse one is and after this it came to pass that they would attack the Philistines and subdue them and David took messaging, from the hand of the Philistines and defeated Moab, forcing them down to the ground. He measured them off of the line with two lines. He measured those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive to the Moabites, became David's servant, and brought tribute. David also defeated had an easier lesson every hot king of nobody went to recover his territory at the river Euphrates.

David took his took from him 1000 chariots 700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers. Also, David hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for 100. Verse five when the Syrians of the massive cane to help it it as her kingdom.

So bless your swords and kingdoms over. David killed 22,000 of the Syrians were six, then David put garrisons in Syria Damascus, Syria, became David's severance and brought tribute so the Lord preserved David wherever he went. This word preserve addressing this a couple times were to deal with this later on in the chapter, but I just want you to notice the Lord preserved David wherever he went and David took the shields of gold that had belonged to the servants paid out as her and brought them to Jerusalem. Also from the time from Baruch Thai cities have had a laser King David took a large amount of brought you start to see David collecting these verse nine when toy king of payment heard that David had defeated all the Army vanities are then twice in your arm is Jerome's son.

The King David to greet them and bless them, because he had fought against had it easier and defeated him from vanities or had been at war with toy and juror on brought with them articles of silver articles of gold, and articles of bronze, verse 11. King David also dedicated these to the Lord along with the silver and the gold that he had dedicated from all the nations, which he had subdue. Here's the thing.

God knew that he could trust David with these things.

He knew he could trust David with this goal in the silver and the bronze and that David would seek to honor God with these things. He knew he could trust. Ask a question. Can God trust you with the blessings that he's bringing to you now verse from Syria for Moab from the people of Ambon from the Philistines from Amalek and from the spoil of had these are the son of rehab kingdoms.

The second all the stuff comes in and in no David. David wants to serve God and in whatever way things are going well, you know build the temple.

I don't have anything to do with reality is not only did David have the things to build the temple. He started putting the pieces together and design that them. He did everything but build it and yet historically here's an interesting thing.

What's that temple known Solomon's Temple.

He let his son take the Balfour, but who really did the labor David another telling thing of your allowing other people to be the one to take the bow if you will for what you do behind the scenes we got people I meet the media. The staff always there so many people behind the scenes and yet somehow God assures me to be the gotta come out here and be the talking head if you will, but man, there's so much energy behind the scenes and in so thankful for the people served are verse 13 and David made himself a name. When he returned from killing 18,000 Syrians in the Valley of salt Valley saw is that placement is the Dead Sea now. He also put garrisons in Needham throughout all Edom. He put garrisons in all Edomites became David's servant in the Lord preserved David wherever he went. So we have that phrase in the Lord preserved David wherever he went. God preserved now the word that the Hebrew word here for this English word preserve is the word Josh in it and it doesn't mean just preserved. It also means saved and unsaved bioassays through.

Also, given the victory to fact. Verse 14 and the amplified. He put garrisons throughout all Edom and all Edomites became a servant in the Lord preserved and gave the victory to him wherever he went, gave him the victory and preserved. That's what's in there.

Whenever David went God not only preserve them but gave in the victory. Why is that important because you know what a lot of believers there just thinking that preserved part that's an important part God is a keeping God is also keeping God.

It's much more than that.

And if you become the mindset of God's going to keep me yelling any run in the Christian to have this mindset, how you doing hello hello no, we may know, I just can't wait to all this is over and I get there.

I'm just holding on until that moment in time, is that the life abundant thing that Jesus was talking about. I don't think so. I think he wants to give you the victory and preserve you at the same time not just holding onto all this is over and there's going to be days when man that's that's what you got your whole known, but that shouldn't be the majority of the days.

Why is and here's what here's here's the room didn't David in his battles.

Look at his battles and think okay can I accomplish this and can me and my Army accomplish is that the way David approach these battles in life.

No way no way now. You may mistakenly think that that is the Army grows and they get more organized that they were thought like that.

Absolutely not. David never thought like that you're a great example Goliath you actually think David looked at Goliath and thought I'm sure will take no he didn't know what Goliath is dishonoring God I serve God, give me his head all man. If you can get this don't measure your ability and the battles by your abilities, but by God's ability to be a lot of stuff that you come to life and you think you know what, there's no way I do this and you'll be absolutely right. But God can do.

And if you're always looking at circumstances measured by your abilities you you're really bummed out. What can God do everything well there's there's a couple theological that he can't live okay.

I want to get into what got the guy can do a lot of stuff. God is very powerful. God created the heavens and the earth.

And when you come to his son ask him to forgive your sins.

Guess what gates are open wide. God will now equip you and bless you and give you the strength to do things and maybe you think it will be a passionate week in August.

It's in the Bob you see in the life of David run this verse is Philippians 16 says being confident of this very thing, that he was my got a good work and you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Please notice he who began the work and it was God who's going to finish it is. He started it is going to finish it. Philippians 212 13 therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. That verse is totally freaked me out because I had people tell me that verse work out your own salvation with fear and trim when I thought you know what, never done anything of any significance right and you just tell me I'm responsible for my own salvation. It was years before I read verse 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and the do for his good pleasure. It's God who puts in you, the desire to do what's right. New living translation dearest friend. You are always so careful to follow instructions when I was with you and now them all away. You must be even more careful to put in action got Satan work in your life, obeying God with deep reverence and fear for God is working in you giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him. God is at work in you how I know you're here you're here would also think Jude 24 now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling in the present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy keep you from stumbling, but it's a tough 1st GW ensemble well, that's when you take charge of your life. But when God is in charge and you put God first. You're never some you are never stumbling now and here's here's another thing we do this time, pastors and teachers try to maintain the people that they should never stumble. I would love it if you never stumbled. I love it even more if I never stumble. But the reality is you're going to stumble and you know I'm derelict in my duties if I don't believe you're new here. Please don't misunderstand him about.

I need to teach you to walk as a teacher and I need to teach you what to do when you stumble is a back like stumbling is something that should never happen and I never teach you what to do when you stumble when you stumble you will be overwhelmed you think you know what, nobody ever told me this is your listening to Pastor David McGee on cross the bridge will be back with more than just a moment but first, if you haven't been to our website@crossthebridge.com yet what are you waiting for go to cross the bridge.com to learn more about how listeners like you are helping get the life-changing truth of God's word to more people to the radio, Internet and mobile technologies across the bridge.com you can also check out our broadcast schedule. Now here's Pastor David as he continues showing verse by verse them ever told me that I was having problems.

I thought when I came to Jesus all my problems went away. That was never in a struggle with these emotions are the spheres of these anxieties or anything like that and am struggling now I felt what I do is what the bodices problems 2416 says for righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity in the new living translation says they may trip seven times what each time they will rise again. One.

Calamity is enough to what lay the wicked low CV fall and don't get up now and you're not righteous but if you keep getting up after you fall, the Bible says your righteous person that blows our mind as far as being right is because we think righteous, you never stumble. The Bible said bodices of your righteous stumble. You get up again you get up again. Incidentally, I like the new living translation. You'll hear me quote from the new living translation are new believers bobbles are in the new living translation. I got an email just had talked about this, along with studying and and a King James. I read from the new King James, and I do I look in the amplified link. I guess there's about 14 different versions about why go through my computer. Which one I like the most. I may not have studied in read the King James was the one I enjoy the poetry of it. There are some places where other versions are more accurate in the Hebrew sense of the word so I'm deftly not a King James version only person in reversion, has its strengths and its weaknesses and understand please the little footnotes that you're at the bottom of your Bible.

They are not anointed there not gotten right. Okay, here's the thing, God will keep you and God will give you the victory less next lifeless God will keep you and God will give you the victory. God will keep you and give you the victory. And it's not just a matter of whole loan. If you're just holding on friend you get ripped off. You are not walking in the fullness of God and you have to ask yourself the hard question of why is God really first in my life and in God is really first in my life where's the victory life is a battle, sometimes I think sometimes we go through life we thing the nothing bad is ever supposed to happen.

We think just because we become believers. Nothing bad should ever happen. God never promised you that you promised you that even though bad things happen, he would still be with you.

He would never leave you, and he would never forsake verse 15 so David reigned over all Israel.

David administered judgment and justice to all his people awesomely great leader was a perfect leader, absolutely not. He's made some bad decisions in the past and make some bad decisions in the future was a perfect leader absolute unit which we look for perfect people in our lives. We look for perfect churches in our lives. Those things don't exist.

If you're looking for the perfect false so you can really submit an and give glory to God in your job performance perfect ball to guess what your will mobile she's been to Missoula commendably. That's not glorify the God and the DC Halleck creates an out every situation rethinking well. I really want to glorify God, but I don't like my team leader are only my balls are all like my parents, peers do this. No like that. So don't really have to submit to them and the Bible talks about husbands and wife submitting one to another, and so I don't like my wife and she does is wrong so I'm not going really leader in the way that I should. My husband, he does things her own son, Michael. Some of him because he's the understand that that gives you now every situation. One, because there's no perfect people. There's no perfect people so David was a greatly to means one the strongest best biblical leaders in the bottom and yet the Bible very plainly records he did some really messed up so will rule doing get some stuff in a few chapters we got there, is himself already but again he love the Lord were 16 Joab the son of Zechariah was over. The Army, Jehoshaphat the son of a hello and was recorded as a doctor, son of a limit like the sum of the day before were the priest surrounds the scrub is an interesting thing Zeta Sadock will be with David his whole life he will be loyal to David David's whole life is a matter fact even beyond because he will end up to be the priest that anoints Solomon the BK through all the things that David goes through the Toshiba and then later with Absalom in the rebellion. Sadock's always there is always this friend is always faithful even when David messes up Sadock is still there.

I think there's a also biblical picture there verse eight and I am son of Jehoiada was over both the chair of sites in the Pella fights and Davidson were chief ministers and was an interesting because he was also priest. He was a warrior and he was priest, which is kind of unique combination in a sense, but you know what listless understand and I think we do we do this justice to Christianity and the Jesus some of the pictures of Jesus you know and they were they were drawn and painted like 1500 years after Jesus was here I have a serious problem with some of because number one. He never looks Jewish. Ever notice that they didn't know Jesus was a Jewish man. Some I was talking to somebody and they said, Jesus was a Jew again, but he quit one really is. I just spent some of these pictures I don't, he doesn't look like somebody. It was a carpenter to me. He doesn't look like somebody sat in the court at the temple and made a wet as he watched the people being abused. You never notice that when I noticed that verse eight totally rock my world because of what is it says that Jesus watched them they were doing the money changers. They sat there and made the with that you think Jesus was sitting there doing that. That will supposedly be known so many of the paintings I don't think so.

I think you sooner going that's a different Jesus and most of us kind of grew up within and I think sometimes we believe that Christians godly leaders should rollover equipment so we see in the Bible is matter fact, when you see godly leaders rolling over. It's a bad thing like Peter when he denied Jesus the last time we think will godly leaders think they should and should rollover relation unit when hard times hit in and and and and and that's not a godly leader. So here under the leadership of David. Israel had gone from a small little country to now it's one of the most about the most powerful nation in the world. Why was that was it really because of David's ability God had blessed David with abilities no doubt about it. Was it because David's abilities that Israel was in a place now.

Now is because God's ability and friend. If you're going through life and your measuring everything by your strength and your ability. You can think you can't make it, and you really can't depending on your strength. We as believers tend towards two things. We tend towards overestimating our strengths and underestimating God's power, because we look at a situation we go well.

I can't do that and perhaps again, you're right. Example is seen somebody go through a hard time and say I can imagine getting through, you know, there are situations it is passed right here about a man that that stuff. But here's what happens in that situation, God gives people the strength in the grace and the power to get to those thing.

But a lot of times we look at things ago I can't do that are God can't work like that and work underestimating the power of God and then other times of the log to lose Angulo really got your overestimating your strength unison with the Bible has to say about your abilities. John 15 five says I am the vine and you are the branches you abides in me and I in him, bears much fruit, for without me you can do nothing you can do nothing. How much is nothing, not a thing and maybe you will wonder, something I can do something to make a real mess on that's what I but as far as anything of spiritual significance it's gonna last I can do anything without God. Here's the flip side.

Matthew 1926 but Jesus looked at him and said to them, with men this is impossible with God all things are possible. So there it you knew nothing with God all things are possible say all things all things for sale things with some conviction say all things all so here it you do nothing you do all things. Just every person there's probably overestimating their strength and underestimating the power of God work is one from verse Ephesians 320. Glory be to God by his mighty power at work within us is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask her Hope infinitely more not a little bit more infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask her Hope the Bible doesn't record. But I know it happened, where people came along to David today can do that we can make here. We think the Bible doesn't record that well it does in a little way people going to get against Glaswegian thinking you have those people in your life.

I have those people in my life in a way well in a way they spur meal when somebody says to me you can't do that. I think man now motivated or it's never been done before, or it's never been done like that. I'm sure people said that the David who was David trusting in some ways. Again, I understand David was a flaw man yet he's this dreamer and warrior and poet. In a lot of ways friend. He is a might imitate you been trusting we can take this all away to the issue of salvation. If you been trusting in your works in your abilities in order to get you in the heaven. That's misplaced trust to trust in Jesus's death upon the cross, only waiting be say that's only waiting to happen who you trust in with the stuff in your life you're going salvation. I trust God with what about the stuff in your life you trust. I trust God, here's a litmus test get freaked out about stuff get anxious about stuff get out of sorts about stuff. When you feel that you're not trusting God. Either that or your again underestimating God's abilities because you don't feel like God is going to come through.

You don't feel like it's gonna work out friend. Remember this is not just for you but sometimes maybe you need to remember that for somebody else when somebody comes teams as well that this is wrong and that's wrong say manually trust God need to believe God's can come through for please understand something rebalance itself. In closing, trusting God doesn't mean that you don't do anything I've talked to people. So I just trusting God. They do have a job. As I well you know why you trust God, you need be working because the Bible says you don't work you should need.

So me most was written right so understand it's not entrusting God it's in active trust. It's not just a I'm trust in God.

I'm not going to do anything thing to do what's right to be in fellowship to put God first and as I do these things and go work and as I do the things I will trust God.

That's an important thing friend you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now only Jenna short, simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him.

God want you to pray this prayer so much that he died to give you the opportunity and the ability to ask him to forgive you.

Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now.

Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry. Please forgive me of all those things. Please give me the power to live for you. All of my days in Jesus name, amen it friend if you prayed that prayer according to the Bible you've been forgiven you've been born again. Jesus said he would not turn anybody away who comes to him and he came for those people who knew they needed forgiveness. Those who were sick, not the righteous to congratulations for you just made the greatest decision that you will ever make.
