The lands that David is now winning go back to when Joshua came into the land and they didn't conquer all the way. And now, generations later, God is using David to conquer the rest of his we need to remember that because in the interim.

I'm sure there were some people that said you gave us this land from this river to that river, but it several generations to do this. Welcome to the bridge with David McGee Senior Pastor of the bridge in Kernersville, North Carolina today in the program. We have Neil one of the Mickeys assisting pastors to help share with us. Bob, great to be here and you know the man continues to fight battles knowingly battles will be one overnight. It's a continued fight yesterday.

We want things to happen yesterday… One overnight. Well, that's when we appeal to the culture says we gotta have something instant or we can appeal to work out where it says display persistent blessings, and persistence in trusting the Lord. Following this list continue sharing my first and second Samuel chapter 8, so were looking at the life of David and we see David for all the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem and made Jerusalem the capital of Israel, and in her last week we looked at the chapter were David is wanting and desiring a good thing and that is to to build the temple for God first.

Nathan says hey you go for, and then have some time with the Lord and he comes back because you know what you're not the God. You're not the guy we learn from the book of Chronicles that one of the reasons are probably the main reason was. David was a man of war and God said, I don't want to build the temple but were missing some neat stuff in the chapter tonight so let's jump in second Samuel chapter 8 verse one is and after this it came to pass that they would attack the Philistines and subdued and David took messaging, from the hand of the Philistines and defeated Moab, forcing them down to the ground. He measured them off of the line with two lines. He measured those to be put to death, and with one full line those to be kept alive to the Moabites, became David's servant, and brought tribute. David also defeated had an easier lesson every hog king of so nobody went to recover his territory at the river Euphrates. David took his took from him 1000 chariots 700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers. Also, David hamstrung all insured horses except that he spared enough of them for 100. Verse five when the Syrians of the massive came to help hit it as her kingdom. So bless your swords and kingdoms over. David killed 22,000 of the Syrians now if you haven't figured this out. David's award, he is a warrior. This is something that he does well and it's something that he does with a passion, here's what's interesting to the lands that David is now winning go back to when Joshua came into the land and they didn't conquer all the way. And now, generations later, God is using David to conquer the rest of Israel. We need to remember that because in the interim. I'm sure there were some people that said you gave us this land from this river to that river and understand God gave them to the Euphrates.

Not just the Jordan. So next time some I will talk about the West Bank asking what's river because we think of the Jordan everything on this side as minister. So what the Bible says all the way to the river Euphrates or Clement so people could assemble God thought you were given us this land, but it several generations to do this. David's warrior, David's been the one choosing to do it and he is he is finishing a battle that if you will start about Joshua was life lesson. Not all battles are one overnight, not all battles are one overnight per six then David put garrisons in Syria Damascus, Syria, became David's service and brought tribute to the Lord preserve David wherever he went down this work preserve addressing this a couple times were to deal with this later on in the chapter, but I just want you to notice so the Lord preserve David wherever he went over some David took the shields of gold that had belonged to the servants paid out as her and brought them to Jerusalem. Also from the time from Baruch Thai cities of Saturday's are King David took a large amount of bronze you start to see David collecting these verse nine when toy king of payment heard that David had defeated all the Army vanities are then twice in your arm is Jerome's son. The King David to greet them and bless them, because he had fought against had it easier and defeated him from vanities or had been at war with toy and durum brought with them articles of silver articles of gold, and articles of bronze, verse 11. King David also dedicated these to the Lord along with the silver and the gold that he had dedicated from all the nations, which he and subdued. Here's the thing.

God knew that he could trust David with these things. He knew he could trust David with this goal in the silver and the bronze and that David would seek to honor God with these things.

He knew he could trust.

Ask a question.

Can God trust you with the blessings that he's bringing to you now. Every now and again I hear some I make a statement that is just really so so bogus. It goes something like that. You know it if I won the lottery.start time. That is such a bogus statement because you you understand what is really saying it saying God, you know I'm not going to give you your due from my 15, 20, 30,000 whatever whatever you figure. I'm not going to give that you can trust me with a little you gave me a lot. I would hook you up. It doesn't work like that. Does the Bible say he has been unfaithful in the small things, I'll give them bigger things somewhat assesses says if your faithfulness small thing, then God will bring more things in flesh.

David Evans faithful in the small things. Now God is bringing all this and it's no surprise that David is seeking the blessed God with the things because that's what David David wasn't like oh you know I have blessed you know all you got to bring me all the silver and bronze a gold I guess I'll start time and I guess I'll start again. I guess I'll start on your new with these things.

That's not the way it went. David Artie had a track record of blessing God and honor, there is the key right there so you make that commitment any dedicated to the Lord now you know if if you're new here, you're okay to talk about money, money.

Yeah, I'm talk about finances, but I'm a bigger picture. I'm talking about your gifts your talents, your energies and all those things. See here's the thing. If you're not honoring God with those things you're not going to be getting God's best. That's just the reality that is the reality God in Malachi's as you don't test me in this, the only places test me and he said I'll pour out the windows of heaven, I will devour. I will rebuke the devour for your sake.

Interesting concept and it here's a life lesson being dedicated and give honor to God with your resources not notice being dedicated give honor to God with your resources. I did not just say money is. Here's the thing. A lot of people think okay I give 10%. That's all I need to do. That's all I need to do a church. I don't need to do anything else. I don't need to serve. I don't need to pray for the people there only to pray for pastor only doing as long as I give in some churches may be okay with it but blessed you in so many ways friend.

He's given you a unique combination of talents and gifts things and blessings. And if you think that unique combination is just for your enjoyment, you're missing the heart and spirit of Jesus really he wants you to honor him with those things so that he in turn blesses you as here's a reality. If you're just enjoying your talents and your gifting's in your resources and your energies in your passions.

And yes, your finances, and you're not honoring God you're going to be miserable know what there is a lot of gifted people in New York and LA and natural is a lot of gifted actresses and actors. They are enjoying their gifts in their abilities and their talent but because they think it's all about them there in misery there in misery is the key, I think, to the wise of David that God wants. Don't get me wrong, God wants you to enjoy your gifting your gifting's in your talents, but he also wants to use them to bless other people I don't know what each person in here. I don't know what your particular gifting their talents or resources or anything like that are I just know God wants to use those to bless other people as you honor him in friend you'll be blessed that cool the way that works you honor God, God will bless you for honoring him and other people around you will be blessed and if you don't do that, then life is going to be empty is going to be futile you're going be frustrated and yes you may be a believer you may be a Christian but you really not following Jesus.

In that sense and so we need to understand that now appears here's a cool thing to what's David doing with all this stuff dedicated these to the Lord wasn't being dedicated these to Lord once again abilities is getting using the build the temple of pastor David you just told us that God said he wasn't going to build the temple.

He's not going to build the temple when he's going to do is gather all the things so that Solomon could build the temple. What a man David was. He wanted to build the temple, God said no, no, David wanted to.

It was a good thing but it was not God's best.

And yet David has the heart where he gathers all these things so that the one that God has chosen in due season can build the temple is convicting, and it why because our attitude and now it's not always like and understand you know when I'm up here teaching I'm teaching, not how I am, how I should be. David was kingdom minded if he'd been self-centered A-to-Z to take anything that will guide you know I was going build temple or you know you will meet with the temple when all of a sudden I got gold and silver and Brian's God but am not using build temple you can. There's none of that. Okay, here's a convicting part. What is your emotion or sentiment. When God uses somebody else around you in a way that you want to be used as painful telling and it the other day during staff devotions.

I was talking with Sherman staff here something and you have a staff here that loves you guys pray for you guys and and they really seek to serve you and hear something that we understand and I make sure that everybody understands they are to understand from time to time.

A reiterated, I reiterate though day. The only way that this church can have a staff of people that are here is because of you. See if people aren't giving then people can't be here full-time to serve the people. That's the reality.

So there's an understanding among the staff that the people that come here are the people that make it give us the ability to be here to serve you and may never be far from the hearts and the minds of the people here and see here's the thing.

Both parts are important. Just like David having these resources and Solomon built the temple people bringing in resources and the people serving here both so important. You can't do one without the other and so what happens we end up working together to build the kingdom you're listening to Pastor David McGee on cross the bridge will be back with more than just a moment but first, if you haven't been to our website and across the bridge.com yet you waiting for go to cross the bridge.com to learn more about how listeners like you are helping get the life-changing truth of God's word to more people to the radio, Internet and mobile technologies across the bridge.com you can also check out our broadcast schedule. Now here's pastor David as he continues showing verse by verse. What would happen if tomorrow everybody in here quit their job and showed up at church. The work for staff devotions just got better with that work very long lot but because you know in a couple ways in outcome. Payday. They'll be a big quit their job so we work together to advance the kingdom of God and David so tending to serene passes and not really think a liniment guy just told him he could build the temple and its he's bringing the resources together for this to happen. There is a brother used to come here. I dearly loved. He was just a I thought it was awesome and he was in leadership and all is said and he just a quick get an this is back when we were small not process the stuff so I was aware of it and so you know I came time and innocent. What's going on. Understand and he said well I don't like the way were doing a couple of things. So why do you understand that's completely out of line.

This brother come to me and said hey I have a problem with this.

We could've talked about, but he almost use that as confidence used to let himself off the in regards to giving this is really quiet friend.

We always look for outs when it comes to giving financial and it's really easy say what I don't like this about that because I don't like this about that now. I'm not going to do what I'm supposed to biblically do that and let you off the hook. That does not let you off the hook and and here see, here's the problem. You can all in every church you ever go to. You can find something in there you don't like or don't agree with and if you're using that to get off the hook in regards to giving your always going to be off the hook in regards to giving see this is not God's way of raising money.

This is God's way of raising children and God does God want you to give away your money, you really not want you to give away your selfishness and your self-centeredness and your materialism and that this is wise initiates a discipleship issue.

So I mean we see this in and so again David be an awesome example of not going will guide you know what I was. Here's all the stuff I was going to give it to you but you told me I could build temple. I didn't like that so were not what he did so in humble convicted by this attitude of David's first from Syria for Moab from the people of Ambon from the Philistines from Amalek and from the spoils had these are the son of rehab kingdoms. The sick and all the stuff comes in and in no David. David wants to serve God and in whatever way things are going well, you know build the temple. I don't have anything to do with reality is not only did David have the things to build the temple. He started putting the pieces together and design the he did everything but build it and yet historically here's an interesting thing.

What's that temple known Solomon's Temple.

He let his son take about four but who really did the labor David another telling thing of your allowing other people to be the one to take the bow if you will for what you do behind the scenes we got people I meet the media.

The staff always there so many people behind the scenes and yet somehow God assures me to be the gotta come out here and be the talking head if you will, but man, there's so much energy behind the scenes and then I'm so thankful for the people served are verse 13 and David made himself a name.

When he returned from killing 18,000 Syrians in the Valley of salt Valley saw is that place known as the Dead Sea now. He also put garrisons in Edom throughout all Edom.

He put Garrison's and all Edomites became David serve the Lord preserve David wherever he went. So we have that phrase in the Lord preserve David where everyone God preserved. Now the word that the Hebrew word here for this English word preserve is the word Josh in it and it doesn't mean just preserved. It also means saved and unsaved bioassays through. Also, given the victory to. As a matter fact, verse 14 and the amplified. He put garrisons throughout all Edom and all Edomites became a servant in the Lord preserved and gave the victory to him wherever he went, gave him the victory and preserved. That's what's in there. Whenever David went God not only preserve them but gave in the victory.

Why is that important because you know a lot of believers there just thinking that preserved part that's an important part God is a keeping God is also keeping God. It's much more than that. And if you become the mindset of God's going to keep me yelling any run in the Christian to have this mindset, how you doing hello hello no, we mean old not.

I just can't wait to all… Over and I get there. I'm just holding on until that moment in time, is that the life abundant thing that Jesus was talking about.

I don't think so.

I think he wants to give you the victory and preserve you at the same time not just holding onto all this is over and there's going to be days when that man that's that's what you got. That's what your whole known, but that shouldn't be the majority of the days. Why is, here's what here's here's the room didn't David in his battles. Look at his battles and think okay can I accomplish this and can me and my army accomplish the is that the way David approach these battles in life. No way no way now.

You may mistakenly think that the Army grows and they get more organized that they would thought like that. Absolutely not. David never thought like that you're a great example Goliath you actually think David looked at Goliath and thought I'm super boring. Take no he didn't know what Goliath is dishonoring God I serve God, give me his head all man if you can get this don't measure your ability and the battles by your abilities, but by God's ability to be a lot of stuff that you come to life and you think you know what, there's no way I do this and you'll be absolutely right. But God can do. And if you're always looking at circumstances measured by your abilities you you're really bummed out. What can God do everything well there's there's a couple theological that he can't live okay.

I want to get into what got the guy can do a lot of stuff. God is very powerful.

God created the heavens and the earth. And when you come to his son ask him to forgive you of your sins. Guess what gates are open wide.

God will now equip you and bless you and give you the strength to do things and maybe you think it will be a passionate week in August.

It's in the Bob you see in the life of David run this verse is Philippians 16 says being confident of this very thing, that he was my got a good work and you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Please notice he who began the work and it was God who's going to finish it is. He started it is going to finish it.

Philippians 212 13 therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. That verse is totally freaked me out because I had people tell me that verse work out your own salvation with fear and trim when I thought you know what, never done anything of any significance right and you just tell me I'm responsible for my own salvation.

It was years before I read verse 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and the do for his good pleasure. It's God who puts in you, the desire to do what's right. New living translation dearest friend.

You are always so careful to follow instructions when I was with you and now them all away. You must be even more careful to put in action got Satan work in your life, obeying God with deep reverence and fear for God is working in you giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him. God is at work in you how I know you're here you're here would also think Jude 24 now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy keep you from stumbling, but it's a tough 1st GW ensemble well, that's when you take charge of your life. But when God is in charge and you put God first. You're never some you are never stumbling now and here's here's another thing we do this time, pastors and teachers try to maintain the people that they should never stumble.

I would love it if you never stumbled. I love it even more if I never stumble. But the reality is you're going to stumble and you know I'm derelict in my duties. I don't believe you're new here. Please don't misunderstand him about.

I need to teach you to walk as a teacher and I need to teach you what to do when you stumble is a back like stumbling is something that should never happen and I never teach you what to do when you stumble when you stumble you will be overwhelmed you think you know what, nobody ever told me this was going to happen ever told me that I was having problems. I thought when I came to Jesus all my problems went away.

That was never in a struggle with these emotions are the spheres of these anxieties or anything like that and am struggling now I felt what I do is what the bodices problems 2416 says for righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity in the new living translation says they may trip seven times what each time they will rise again. One. Calamity is enough to lay the wicked low TV fall and don't get up now and you're not righteous but if you keep getting up after you fall, the Bible says your righteous person that blows our mind as far as being right is because we think righteous, you never stumble.

The Bible is the bodices of your righteous stumble. You get up again you get up again. Incidentally, I like the new living translation. You'll hear me quote from the new living translation are new believers Bibles are in the new living translation. I got email just had talked about this wall with studying and and a King James read from the new King James, and I do I look in the amplified billing. I there's up I got about 14 different versions about why go through my computer. Which one I like the most. I don't know I may not have studied in read the King James for so long. I enjoy the poetry of there are some places where other versions are more accurate in the Hebrew sense of the word so I'm definitely not a King James version only person every version, has its strengths and its weaknesses.

Here's the thing, God will keep you and God will give you the victory less next lifeless God will keep you and give you the victory. Friend, you know for sure that your sins have been forgiven. You can know right now own Legion. A short simple prayer simply telling God you're sorry and asking him to help you to live for him.

Please pray this prayer with me out loud right now. Dear Jesus, I believe you died for me that I could be forgiven and I believe you were raised from the dead that I could have a new life not done wrong things I have sent and I'm sorry.
